I had no problems logging in and playing videos, but the app does not fill the screen of my iPad mini. The app’s contents appear the size of a small phone screen in the middle of my iPad, and full screen mode on videos does not expand them to the right fit. It also does not have not the most user friendly navigation system to move between lessons. Overall it’s an unfinished app that works, but needs a lot of polishing.
Love modern states and so grateful for the program! As for the app, I read a couple reviews that said they couldn’t log in, downloaded anyway, when I tried to log in and let Apple passwords preload my log in and password it didn’t work. I deleted my log in name and used my email address instead and it worked perfectly. Happy learning!
Just as someone else mentioned this and just doesn’t work anymore, which I was really hoping to be able to watch the videos and maybe even take some of the courses mobile. I just get an endless reload air that’s similar to what the other person said about it not recognizing the Internet. More than likely it’s some certificate or DNS error on there and that needs to be fixed within the app and I really hope they get to it because this app could be incredibly valuable.
Modern states is a wonderful organization, and the content is great, but the app doesn't allow me to login on occasion, with no specific pattern to it. It claims that I have entered the wrong password, after I have typed it slowly 5 times, and just did it with that same password on the desktop. Very frustrating when I am trying to listen to the videos as I drive.
I found this app by visiting the website first. I launched the course I wanted on the website and thought I’d try the app for convenience. The app worked the first time I logged in and never again after that. It always says that I have no internet connection even when I am connected to strong Wi-Fi. I tried deleting and reinstalling the app and I still get the same error. This app would be awesome if it actually recognized my internet connection.
I actually gave up on this app over the summer because of the bugs other people have mentioned. Redownloaded the app and am glad to see that they fixed it. I appreciate the mission of Modern states and am grateful for the service.
Trying to do their Biology course I’ve ran into problems pretty quickly, the lesson won’t load in, if you try to play any videos the app completely force closes and upon opening it again brings you back to your home screen. Will say I’ve used them before and they did reimburse me for a CLEP I took at my college.
The courses are great and good to get the things you need done. The app keep freezing and kicking you out when you try to watch the videos for the course your taking. I’ve tried checking for updates and even deleted and reinstalled but no luck. It’s just as easy to login online and just take the course so that’s what I do. If they ever get it working correctly it would help if the make the interface mor user friendly and lest confusing.
I would love for this app to work. I find the online program to be brilliant and awesome. The app Closes when I tried to access the videos or loads but Never finishes loading when I try to access other material. Hopefully there will be an update!
Most of the time this application does not work. It comes up and plays videos for a small amount of time but if I close the app and open it again it gives an error. Please, please fix this. It would be so great if I could play the lectures on my phone instead of having to bring my laptop everywhere.
This is the 3rd phone I’ve attempted with over a time span of several years, so it absolutely doesn’t work. Last update 5 years ago? IDK if the developers quit & were never replaced or what, but it’s completely unusable & should be removed. I love the Modern States organization, by the way, and I take the courses on their website without issue.
Questions, slides, and videos endlessly load or the app crashes in the process of trying to load them. If you want to access your coursework on mobile, your best bet would be to download the Firefox app, go to the Modern States website, login, and go from there. Not too much of an inconvenience, but still disappointing.
The app crashed after two days of using it. I was using this app so I could watch videos when I was not able to have my laptop with me. I deleted and re-installed the app and it still doesn’t work. I am very disappointed. I need to be able to watch videos when my laptop isn’t present.
Videos work but you can’t speed them up. Clicked 2x speed and still plays at the same speed. There are random blank slides that say introduction on every slide but don’t display content. Kind of a waste of space in my opinion. Just stick to the web browser unless you want to watch the videos at regular speed.
I’m amazed at how long they have not updated this app and how little they would need to do to just fix it. Even reinstalling the app does nothing when you’re logged after the first log in that being said—modern states is an amazing organization and I don’t really have any qualms with the web version otherwise!
I can view everything online on my laptop, but when I try to view a video on the app, it crashes. Stream or download, same issue. Tried deleting and re-downloading the app - no change. Info is good, but app is completely useless if it crashes whenever I try to access content.
This app is useless to me as it will not accept my login. I am able to login on both safari and chrome with no problem. Both my iPhone and the app are running the most current versions. I also requested a password reset which was never sent to my email or junk mail.
Absolutely love modern states! Years ago, I received a voucher to take the CLEP exam upon course completion, and I learned a lot. The credits were transferable.
Won’t run on iPhone, please update. Modern states website is not iPhone friendly. Neither is their app. I like to watch informative videos while I am at the gym. Modern states does not allow this option for me. Please fix. I hate sitting at a computer to be able to have your website function properly.
Does not work and has not been updated in years. First videos stopped playing, then it stopped tracking progress. No it displays a permanent error and cannot sign out or back in. Deleted app and re-installed and still does not work. Pretty useless.
It’s been four years since this app has been updated and I am disappointed about it. Don’t get me wrong the Modern States service itself is pretty nice, but the app would crash if you try to play a video on a course. If you have iOS 14 maybe higher, please just use the website version.
I have an iphone. I use an excellent VPN. I've tried with it on and off. I've reinstalled the app, etc. Every time I try to watch a video the app crashes. When I try to load a page, it does not load. Some of the landing pages populate, but nothing useful. I rarely give less than a 4 star review. This is a well deserved exception.
The app logs me out after every use. Then will not allow me to click the menu or do anything but “reload” the same session expired screen. Extremely frustrating and this mess of an app needs to be updated ASAP.
This is the second time I try to log in and this time it doesn’t let me sign on. I updated my password and it didn’t do anything. This would be so useful if it worked- at least I have a laptop
I logged into the app and it loaded me into my course, after I closed the app it crashed and no matter how many times I close and re open the app it just won’t load.
I downloaded this months ago and every single time I try to use it it immediately crashes and closes the app. Not surprised by the low star rating for this.
Hello, I went online the website to check my progress. And I go back to the app. I just see an error show up and nothing will load. So I’m very confused. It’s easier completing the course on the app but now it’s not working. Can someone log me out of the app please? Or something
I selected a mobile friendly course, but when I try to do anything in it (see coursework, watch a video, etc.) it crashes. It is pointless. I am forced to take the course via my laptop (i.e.: not mobile).
As soon as I downloaded the app I got an error that says Session Expired, Log in again and it's just stuck there, i can't do anything to try to log into my account
Been trying to login via app and it’s only let me login maybe once or twice. App is great if I’m logged in. However it’s constantly saying my user or pw is wrong. This needs to be fixed. Modern states is an essential for me taking my CLEP exams.
I changed my password. I made sure I was logged out on my laptop. I still can’t login on this app. It’s horrible cause I heard it works but I can’t use it.
This app does NONE of what it says it will do. Just like the others who have tried it, mine will let me put in my login and password but continually tells me to check them and try again. PLEASE READ YOUR REVIEWS AND FIX THE PROBLEMS!
Now it crashes when I want to watch a video. Nothing loads, either. Might as be taken off the market instead of leaving the app here to tarnish their name...
