So Many Opportunities!
I love Niche, I actually found it by accident through an Academic Success class I was taking. It was recommended, and I looked into it, and was happily surprised! There are tons of opportunities here that I would never have had access to before, and I am so glad that Niche makes them so easily available! I’ve had this app for two days and I’ve already applied to three scholarships. Totally free, easy to use, and a great way to score some cash for college. My only suggestion would be a way to tag scholarships. For example, I can’t apply to some now, but I would love to keep tabs on them for a few years from now. Maybe I could bookmark them or something so that when I’m ready, I know where to find them? Overall, a great app! Thanks, Niche!

Really just one problem
Niche is an incredible resource, and I’ve used it extensively in my college search. The information it provides has truly been indispensable. I began using the website, and recently downloaded the app, and as soon as I began using it, I found an incredibly frustrating and disappointing flaw in the apps design. Every time a user moves out of the app, whether by checking notifications in the top of the screen, or going to the home screen, the app logs the user out. This not only forces you to sign in again, but also makes it hard to read the great information provided on the app, as any break you take removed you from any article or college profile you were viewing. I would really like to see this feature changed, and until it is, I’ll be sticking to the web page. Other than that, Niche is an incredible resource, which I recommend to everyone interested in colleges.

Pretty good, but small majors beware
I use Niche to look at colleges. I think if you’re looking for colleges offering a more popular major, it’s awesome. However, if you are looking at less popular majors, you might be better off somewhere else. For example, I was looking at colleges with school psychology, and not a lot of schools were showing up, so instead I looked at NASP, the association for school psychologists, which showed every school they approved for school psychology. However, Niche is great for mechanical engineering, since it shows everything you’d want to know about the college without much bias vs. if you looked at the college’s website.

They ruined this app
This was by far the best app for researching cities, neighborhoods, etc. but now they've completely hidden that feature and it's only geared towards colleges. I really have no clue why they would do this, especially as more and more people are opting to not even go to college. Yet more and more people are becoming nomadic and/or relocating because of remote work. Now I have to Google the location I want to research (e.g. "Austin niche") and then have the link open in the app. There's no way to find this in the app itself. Then you can only close this window and have to start all over for each location. Truly mind boggling why they would pivot away from what the platform so popular in the first place. Considering pretty much all the reviews since this new version are all saying the same thing I sure hope they listen to their audience.

Dear Niche...
I absolutely love love LOVE your app. Everything about it is phenomenal. I always take the time out of my day to check if a college might have an interest in me. I can't wait until the day I get that notification in my inbox notifying me that I have been accepted into somewhere big. Until then, I'll keep up my hard work and will always until the day look into the app to check for any new notifications. I also love your scholarship ads that I find everywhere on the internet. It's giving so many the advantage to have a chance in life. Thank you for the guidance that so many of us need.

Love it to death using it since hs
This is a must and an essential when it comes to researching neighborhoods; finding and sorting through colleges. Now even after college I find myself using it to for home search. Looking at the most affordable place to buy homes in the dmv. Better yet the interface is amazing and allows you to sort through so much, save it and categorize it depending on wether u applied; or other things. I want to say much more but then this would have to be one whole page not even exaggerating. But yeah just showing my thanks as a user of 6 plus years

Good App, inconsistent data.
This is a great app for general information. However, the rating system confuses me. For example, William and Mary has a C rating for its campus when it’s one of the most beautiful campuses in the world, as evidenced by other notable ratings such as Arch Digest and the Princeton Review. I think you should take into account the architectural beauty for your campus ratings. Also, your data for SAT and GPA ranges is flawed. Your GPA scale only goes up to 4.0, when many schools have an average gpa of >4.1 for accepted applicants. Plus, because your data is from users of the website, I have found that SAT ranges tend to be flawed for colleges. Perhaps get your data from official Common Data Sets instead of users of the website, that will make it more accurate.

Disappointing re-design
I used to frequently use this app to research K-12 schools, benefits/downsides to different neighborhoods, etc. I can no longer do that on this app, as it only allows you to review college info. This app is no longer useful to me, and being perfectly honest, I’m unlikely to view the mobile or desktop websites as a perfect substitute for the app’s previous functionality. Being prompted by this now useless (to me) app to allow it to track my data was an extra kick where the sun don’t shine. Not only is this app useless, but you want me to give you my 3rd party data? No thanks. I plan to delete this app right after this review, and find myself unlikely to use it ever again unless the previous functionality is restored or improved upon.

They made the app useless!! Best to find a different app.
This app used to be a great tool for finding colleges that fit certain criteria, then you could change the parameters and do another search. It was great and it helped us narrow our kid’s search. Now, it’s been updated so you can’t even get to the search function without entering all your student’s contact info. (They claim that it’s to help you get scholarships, but I’m NOT searching for scholarships! EVERYTIME I’ve used this app in the past, I was searching for schools to compare, NOT digging for scholarships). They don’t NEED your data! They’re marketing it. There is NO WAY to bypass filling in everything to get you on another list. All parents need to avoid this app as a means to what it once claimed to be.

I love Niche!
I love Niche! I’ve been using it online for about a year now, and I was genuinely surprised when I saw that you guys made an app. I instantly downloaded it. It’s the same thing that you see online. Very easy to use, and I love the free scholarships that you guys offer. The only thing that has been bothering me about this app however, is that it never stays logged in. Every time I come out of the app, it instantly logs me out. I don’t know if that’s on my end or the developer’s end, but I think that should be fixed. Other than that, this app is great, and I will definitely continue to use it!

Glitchy and poor quality
It seems like a great app but the user interface is terrible. I tried doing the college survey and couldn’t get past the second step because of how frustrating it was. It kept going back to the top after scrolling down and the little descriptions that I needed would show for like a second so I had to keep pressing them in order to read them. Plus the sliding scale seems like a bad idea and made no sense to me. How do you rate things like “Campus”? And of course I want it to be safe and the professors to be good. On the good side it’s aesthetically pleasing, free, and is probably helpful if you can handle the frustration. But I prefer other free resources like CollegeVine.

Generally useful, but...
This app has been generally helpful with my son’s preliminary college search. We appreciate having information about each college arranged in a standard format, which makes comparisons quick and easy. However, we just discovered what I think is a significant shortcoming for those interested in STEM careers. The app does not distinguish between Bachelor of Science degrees and Bachelor of Arts degrees when it lists the majors the school offers. We spent a great deal of time learning about a school that looked good initially, to later learn that none of their science offerings lead to a more robust Bachelor of Science degree.

Niche is a great app!
Niche is very helpful for the college search process, I wish the app would let me look at cities as well, like the website does. And, the rankings of colleges and universities are biased towards ivy league institutions. Ivies are on the top of all lists, even though some universities are better even though they aren’t an ivy. Overall Niche is a solid 4/5. I would recommend for the college search but not if you are looking for accurate rankings. They also have scholarships on the website too which is nice!

Really provides alot of information
About to finish up my last year in school has me thinking about how I ended up states away happy at a far away college. I spent a lot of late nights on Niche in 2015 and 2016 during my latter years of high school freaking out about what college I wanted to go to. Now I'm back on it heavily looking at places to live as I graduate soon. It truly helped me find the school of my and it’s crazy it’s full circle being on again helping me for life after I graduate soon. 10/10 recommend! Find your niche✌🏾

I’ve never seen anything like it!!
This is app is amazing. I’ve been able to find out information about colleges that I’ve never seen on other apps before. It’s so incredibly helpful and I would most definitely recommend it. I’m starting my senior year of high school this upcoming fall, so knowing as much as I could about what college would be best for me is extremely important. This app has showed me so many amazing options that would be beneficial for me when I graduate high school. I’m very impressed with Niche; I really love this app!

FIX: landscape, $ out of state, WRONG majors list
1) Until you quit forcing me to balance my iPad upside down ON my charging cord=3 stars (so easy—it’s LAZY app coding. No excuse.) 2)WORTHLESS for determining tuition cost b/c there’s no way to sort for out-of-state 3)if you try to sort by majors, you will be screwed b/c they use the list from the US government & it’s always 5 years old. So, again, LAZY: hire an intern to go through your majors and make sure the colleges still offer those majors. 4) if you take the time to email about these issues, they send back excuses instead of solutions. this app could be so good, so why the easily fixable crappiness?

Just what I needed
I’m looking to move soon and of course have so many questions trying to figure the best location. Neighborhood? Schooling? Jobs? Etc. This app gives you so much information and more all in one app. My only problem is it doesn't keep you logged in. So if you want to check your email, answer a text or check maps to find some locations to add to your preference search and go back to the app it logs you out. Please fix this. I want to give you guys 5 stars!!

Love it!
Good: Super good for comparing colleges, love the variety of factors taken in for the rankings—better then US News. Also love how user friendly the interface is; its simple and sleek design makes it very easy to navigate and research colleges. Bad: The direct admission thing is really shoved in your face, now I do love that this idea exists but its too new for it to be marketed as aggressively as it is. I also wish there was a way to search for rankings, ie. search “econ” and find the top schools for econ.

COLLEGE
Hi everyone!! This app got me into the college I’m going to, which I’ve never heard of before this, in the program I specifically couldn’t find in so many other schools. I am so happy and completely recommend everyone take advantage of the direct admission!! I was skeptical at first and honestly so were my counselors, but it ended up taking so much stress and unnecessary work from my plate and I am so grateful for this program!

Disappointed
This is my go to website when searching for info on schools. Right now I’m focused on helping my daughter search for a college and thought I’d love to create a list for easy access. Downloaded the app only to find the only way to create a list is to sign up with all my (or my daughter’s) contact information for every school I add to the list. That sounds like a lot of unwanted emails and texts coming our way. If you’re set on wanting info and connection with schools then this may be the app for you. However, I just wanted access for research and consideration.

Ok
Does not list all of San Diego's neighborhoods. The few that it does list are problematic. "North Park is a neighborhood "Greater North Park"? What?! The East Village and others aren't even listed. There is some good info on San Diego in general, but some a few things are off. Housing and Cost of living are spot on, but Crime and Safety is a bit off. San Diego is consistently listed as one of the safest "big cities" in the country. San Diego has low violent crime. "Generally speaking, San Diego is a fairly safe area. In fact, San Diego boasts a crime rate that is 15 percent lower than the national average. Statistics show that San Diego is safer than 34 percent of all cities in the country."- via Google

Now it’s only for college??
I have used this app for years and it used to be set up to research colleges, school districts, towns/cities, etc. There was a variety of ways the app could be used and I did use it for many things such as college search, researching retirement communities for family members, researching areas to live after college, etc. Now, I guess it is solely focused on finding colleges/universities? Confused why they would remove features and in doing so, make the app that much less useful and narrow their audience.

Makes the college search a lot more concise
I'm just truly beginning my college search and Niche is super helpful. It's easy to compare colleges by ranking, affordability, region, etc. It can help connect you to colleges you never even thought about, and show you schools you should have known about. Then you can also track approximate odds for acceptance. And you can see reviews from students, too. It's honestly a pretty good app/website.

Hopes....
This app is great for those who would like to have a view of their acceptance rate and the lifestyle of the college itself. The tool called “Will I get in?” Is a very helpful tool in which gives you an overview of your scores of either ACT/SAT, Including your GPA. This gives you a view of your acceptance rate. In my opinion I think it’s a great tool but at the same time I wouldn’t like to get my hopes up. Overall this is a great informative app of colleges you are striving to get in to.

I love the Niche website so much and I’ve been using the website for many years just to browse for potential universities but now that college is my main focus right now I downloaded the app to make it more convenient for myself but I always run into the same problem. If I leave the app for any reason or if I go into my notifications while I’m in the app it will go back to the home page no matter what. It is very frustrating that this has been going on for months with no resolution. I really hope this problem gets fixed soon!

Onboarding is not relevant
really enjoy your platform and found it to be very useful when househunting or picking a place to live with the four sides of child education. But now for some reason when I download the application, it forces me through onboarding, which does not have an option for parent, and all the options are anchored at students. And I have no way of moving forward from that screen. That’s a product decision then its weird to say the least, if that’s just a bug, please fix it.

Great app but lacking basic functionality
This is a great app! The content and how it is organized is easy to navigate. However, I noticed an issue while trying to return back to a page I was at previously. I have an iPhone X and the back arrow in the bottom left doesn’t always work or has a very delayed response. I’d also like to see swipe functions added. Other than that, this app works great.

Almost Perfect
Due to COVID, nearly all college campuses are closed and do not offer campus tours, which makes it tough to get a feel for a school’s culture. However, reading current students’ and alums’ reviews on niche gives me a glimmer of what the school is all about. The only complaint I have is the app runs slow when I’m not connected to wifi.

I’ve been using niche for years and years. Today a question popped up in iPhone app asking imho update my account. Okay. I make a mistake and misrepresent myself. I am a parent. The choices were all expecting a student. I tried to pick high school student considering college. I clicked next and I’m on screen expecting current college, high school and college graduation year. No back button. Only a continue button. Who designed this!!??!! Even if I enter valid data, I can’t get continue to activate, rendering this app USELESS. do NOT download if you’re looking for K-12 Schools, Safe Neighborhoods, etc.
This APP was GREAT. As a parent, I would love using this app to look for great K-12 schools, neighborhoods, etc. I recommended it to SO many of my parent-friends as well. Now, after this new update that only features “Colleges”, well, only features colleges. Riddle me this: How many 16-21 year olds are going to religiously use this app to find a college? Is this the Target audience now? And now this: How many young families in America are looking for the safest and highest rated neighborhoods? What about their K-12 children that needs to go to a reputable school? Is Niche really forcing this higher targeted audience to use their website via a browser, as opposed to a convenient APP? Not a Great business decision here. Again, this app was great. I supported it 100%. Now it will be deleted bc why does a 30+ year old family man need a College App?? K. Cya.

Hello, I’ve downloaded your app, Niche, and I love it! It’s very useful but I have one question. What criteria do you use to rank a school as (for example,) #1 in Criminal Justice Degrees? What is the criteria to be ranked high? I want to make sure I am getting the best, most accurate information possible. Thank you so much for this app, I love it!

Why just college students now???
I was using this app to find real estate to buy to see the demographics and average rent and rankings of various locations throughout the US. But now they have changed it to be just for college students and you can’t really access any of that useful data as an investor. It’s essentially become useless to a portion of the population. I will not be using it anymore unless it changes back to how it was, too bad it was extremely helpful as it was.

Used Niche for years but can’t anymore
I am a working adult raising a young family and used the niche app for years researching areas to live for me and my family. Super disappointed that they got rid of the town search and moved it to the website…. Make tabs at the bottom of the screen to switch from college to k12 to town/city grades. Deleted the app and my account. Embarrassing because this was a really useful app before….. shouldn’t have to use the site only. Sounds like everyone else agrees too. Bring back the old niche. So many people have deleted it. You think they would change back….. nope. Deleted too.

They deleted my data, switched the apps direction and asked for information
So this was my to go to app. They changed it all of a sudden and it’s geared more to a college student audience… So I lost all my saved information, without notice that they were changing everything. Why not make a separate app for college searches? There is thousands of ways to search for colleges but not many apps to stay safe and learn more about areas and neighborhoods. Bad move.

Unnecessary queries
Why do I need to provide a full biography just to make a list of schools? Edit: In response: I didn't make it that far. After seeing the amount of required information in order to start a school list, I discontinued using the app. Why require it in the first place if it can be "freely" removed later? Sorry, but I just prefer the info to never be on the server to begin with. Info strictly required in "step 2": grade, school type, religious preference, current city, state, ZIP. I assume more is required in successive steps.

I used to love Niche as it provided some insights for places to live. In the age of using apps to access specific information, I am disheartened that Niche has done away with this aspect for people not ready or interested in attending college. I’m sure in the coming years I may use this new function to help my children research higher education, but for now it is a useless app as it currently stands.
