New user, and right at the start there are a couple obvious bugs, and a few things that could be improved on: - Audio frequently becomes unsynced with the video. - Detaching the video so you can view it while doing something else on your phone doesn’t always work correctly. Sometimes the video goes somewhere off screen and the only way to get it back is to go back to the app and “re-home” the video. - There isn’t a way to quickly advance the video while in full screen mode. To jump forward 10 seconds, you have to get out of full screen, tap the button, and then go back in to full screen. YT addresses this perfectly by allowing you to double tap on the right or left side of the video. Something similar would be a welcome change. All in all it’s a great start for a new app. I’m in it for the long haul, and I’ll be eagerly looking forward to improvements as they happen.
A free an open, decentralized hosting system that anyone can link to using crypto yo further enhance creator payment and support , while viewers are rewarded for their time instead of being spoon fed commerce to satisfy the big tech giants greed & pimp out creators for pennies. The creator of odysee makes no bones about his desire for Others to create their own app to link to lbry. He created odysee to demonstrate its ability and capability, but sadly it’s about too good and I haven’t seen or heard of any news projects. I expect odysee will Become a household name in a few years. I still use the browsers (brave and quant) because the app needs some work. When you watch a video and desire to go back out to the Home Screen, you’re stuck in the feed you selected and then have to restart the app. I’m positive this will be corrected, and am eagerly waiting this app to be used and YT app deleted.
More freedom than alternative video platforms, but terrible UX
I’ve been using Odysee on Desktop and mobile. The mobile app is entirely unusable. Live streams will never stay on live. It always freezes and falls behind. You can’t full screen it either so Desktop is the only solution. The search engine doesn’t work at all, not even a little bit. Desktop is a night and day difference compared to the app. On Desktop the only minor issues is the search engine doesn’t work too well. You have to really fine tune it and even then it’s barely functional. The comment section goes to the side so far that comments are entirely unreadable after a few replies back and forth between people. The only reason I use Odysee is it’s the most free speech platform I’ve found so far. If that ever changes they will be replaced with another competitor. They will only stay in good favor of their current users for the same reason as me, free speech. If they begin to shadow ban they’re done for in my eyes. Also they do throttle users to the top that they favor, the recommended videos on their home page is not organic. There’s people with 10,000+ followers who do not get featured in their home feed while others with only 2 followers are. Fix all of these issues or someone else who comes along will quickly scoop up all of Odysee’s user base as it’s already heavily flawed and barely functional.
if i could give it less than one star, i would. hands down THE worst video player/hosting app i’ve tried. there is still NO playlist option on the ios app (which in itself is a whole mess), and when you do manage to get around browser, it’s slow, buggy, warms my phone, freezes, and shows creepy ads. you have to unmute every single video manually, so there are no options to just enjoy a playlist on mobile hands-free. there are plenty of weird and unnecessary options i’m sure the few users the app has don’t even know what it’s for, meanwhile, it lacks options that pretty much every other video player app has (and that makes them handy and necessary). the design is ugly, tight, and full of useless options and buttons. oh, and even worse outside of the app version. just a complete 0/10 in terms of functionality, design, and compared to pretty much every other similar app on the market.
You’d think this app would have a much friendlier UI and basic options for things like modding your own channel. Not being able to control my stream from my phone or help mod anywhere else on Odysee, is extremely annoying and frustrating. I’m writing this review because ever since the last Odysee iOS App update 2 days ago, I haven’t been able to open the app at all. It force closes the second it shows the main menu. No matter what I do, I can’t get the thing to open 🙄🤦♀️ so now, all I have is my laptops for access. Beyond frustrating to say the least. Odysee - please, get the app working ASAP. There’s been a lot of bugs and extreme amount of glitching on the platform itself. People aren’t happy. I hope they turn this around before too many people get fed up and leave.
Pretty good, would like to be able to edit comments.
They keep getting better and technically it's not even version 1.0 yet. A little buggy sometimes but mostly reliable, I think the platform would benefit by keeping up with the numerous other conveniences available on other platfroms, such as editing comments, and I can't seem to reply to replies. Still a little buggy in that regard but I reckon they'll at least fix the latter issue. Best app for freedom of expression on the iPhone from what I've seen. Livestreams work pretty good too.
It still has some bugs, sure, but is really coming along. If every person who got tired of YouTube’s censorship, demonetizing, and arbitrary standards would at least dual-stream their content to Odysee, we’d start to see even more traction. Nothing gets better if we don’t vote with our feet. In any case, glad to see the progress that has been made, and that some of my favorite Linux and entertainment accounts are beginning to show up more and more. Keep it up!
There quite a few bugs I’ve noticed in the app on a fresh install. 1) In the sign-in menu, when entering the password, the iOS keyboard pushes the on-screen menu in on itself, so the “sign up” menu option is partially covering the password field, making it hard to actually see what password you’re typing in. This only resolves if you tap away from the keyboard to close it. 2) Many video thumbnails refuse to load. Most of the thumbnails on the initial screen on any menu (home, following, etc) are empty, black squares where the normal thumbnail would be. This is not the case on the Odysee website, as all thumbnails are displayed normally. Scrolling down far enough on the app makes some thumbnails appear for other videos, but it doesn’t fix the ones above. There are just large, empty thumbnails, which is quite an eyesore. 3) Please enable an in-app option to file bug reports.
I love the interface on the mobile website more than the app. I also don’t like the video player of this app, it feels like a mix of IOS’s native player and something under it just to give it the ability to swipe down. the website does it better, and there’s also speed control, auto play switch etc. Also there are still bugs on this app especially whenever I follow someone new.. the whole app crashes every time I follow someone new. Hope the apps interface changes to be more like the mobile website. Until then I’ll be using that more than this app 👍🏼
So many bugs it’s nearly unusable: loading, playing, player controls all had issues for me on an older but still supported device. Rumble sometimes have these issues. Devs need to test on older devices and also devices with mediocre to poor connectivity, as this area could be the culprit. Google has definitely poured tons of money into their tech and are ahead. Grateful for alternatives. Spend that crypto and make some upgrades and compete with Rumble. Competition is good for everyone!
Keyboard pops up after returning to search results
Can you guys fix the issue with the keyboard popping up after returning from a video back to your search results? It automatically puts the cursor in the search box which makes the keyboard pop up. The only way to remove the keyboard is to either click another video or go back to the home page with the navigation arrow next to the search bar.
Needs multi-speed control and the ability to create playlists! An issue with Odysee/LBRY is its difficult to find things. If you have users creating playlists, it helps other users discover better content. It also helps users keep a library of content they’d like to use as resources for doing projects and listening to music. Overall great project, just lacks these important features
I used software Mobile throughout the beta period on iOS and I have been an avid user through desktop browsers for quite awhile. The degree of polish in this app at release is quite impressive. There are obviously some features that are missing from the app but with the rate the platform itself is growing its a forgone conclusion that they will be added on mobile in the near future. Distributed systems are the future.
I just got started and I already like it. But you know what would make this even better? The ability to make playlists. Say you find a certain video you really like, but you can’t find it later even when searching for it. You could put it in a playlist so that doesn’t happen. And you could make a playlist for music, one for arts and crafts, etc. Just give it some thought.
The core ability to play videos is available, but is missing many of the core features I use on the full website. I have been unable to view or utilize playlists. You are also unable to adjust playback speed , which I often use for audio focused content like podcasts. The interface is also a bit awkward at times, like the minimized video player blocking the navigation menu if you tap on library. I hope these are addressed in the future.
The app itself is fine, the UI is easy to navigate but man whenever it comes to live streaming wether you are watching or the one streaming Odysee is a real stinker. Not sure if it’s a server issue on their end but for being the main draw of the app you’d think they’d work harder to fix it. Even worse though in my opinion something that should be a as simple as rewatching a previously streamed video is always a hassle with long buffer times constantly pausing to buffer and load more. I want the app to work I really do but this app is a big stinker in its current state
One on iPad the keyboard doesn't go down lots of problems biggest flaw. two for some reason can't comment or see most comments I'm happy that it does work however and this is likely going to be patched in the future just a bit annoyed with that for now I recommend using website more seems better designed but I think it's going to be a great app in the future.
I love Odysee, the website is great, I love that it’s an actual free speech platform unlike the Tube, however, it seems to only have an iPhone app and nothing else. Will you be making native iPad and AppleTV apps? I find I don’t use Odysee nearly as much as I’d like simply because it’s not available where I usually watch videos. I would really love getting this on AppleTV and iPad for sure, I’d watch it all the time.
I use this to listen to content while I work. I will get involved with work and set my phone aside. When I come back my battery is drained and feels on fire with a low battery warning. It is not like the app is constantly playing videos. It might be left playing but when the one video ends it does not auto start the next. The app simply sits there drawing loads of power doing nothing. I go to Battery in Settings and it puts Odysee at the top with 80 plus percent of the power usage. Why?
For starters I can’t get the volume on the app to work, so it’s essentially useless out of the box. I have also discovered in trying to reboot the app to get the sound to work that a given search term entered at one time will on one occasion produce plenty of results and on the next produce none. I’m sure if I were to spend more time using the app I would discover more problems (or maybe I’d learn some things I liked about it), but given how surprisingly bad the functionality is I won’t be spending any more time on the mobile app.
Well the main thing that makes it hard to use is the lack of a back button. I find a channel I like click to follow and then can’t get back to the main feed without restarting the app. It really really needs the back button or at least have the tabs at the bottom of every page not just the homepage. A search function would be great too..
Not a ton of content, but a great place to explore and grow. Needs speeds (1.5x, 2x, etc), time skipping (double click for 15/30 seconds forward or back) cuz as soon as you touch the time it shoots forward minutes and not seconds and then you’ve forgotten where you were. If these things change I will consider upping my rating. :)
This isn’t really a review just a way to connect to the developers of Odyssey and a recommendation
I know Odyssey has these categories on the top of the page . Featured pop culture comedy Artists lifestyle Education music sports universe Gaming spooky tech Spirituality news and politics finance 2.0 wild West . but I wish spirituality and the word metaphysical was combined together as a category or just a separate category for the word metaphysical .
Thank YOU for being here at a time when diversity of thought is under attack. We need a place to go to share our opinions, thoughts, ideas and information - especially if those ideas are in direct contrast with the elite narrative. Thanks for working so hard to scale up and replace the public square.
So many apps either have audio or force you to watch video only while the app is open. Love that you can switch between apps or lock the phone while listening but still have the option to unlock and watch certain parts all seamlessly.
I wish I could use this app, but it's been broken for over a month. Every single time in the last month I've tried uploading a video, as soon as i click the cloud upload button, the app crashes. Every single time. So i'm completely unable to upload! That's the whole point of the app. On iOS if you try logging in and you type the wrong email, you get an error that says "No error message". That's an extremely easy fix.
Very fun. It’s like being online in the 2000s again.
Decentralization moves you away from the reach of the Big-Tech overlords, and crypto rewards are fun to earn. This network is great and content is edgy and original. It’s part of web3.0 and it’s like being online was back in the 90s and 2000s. It actually enjoyable again.
It would mean a lot to me if you could add the playlist feature to the app. I'd use the website but for some reason when it goes to the next video on the playlist, the video it's automatically paused and muted. It's really annoying and I just don't know how to fix it. Sometimes it doesn't happen, but most of the time it does. So yeah, that's really my only complaint atm.
Lacks basic functionality, such as navigation buttons. Pop-ups and banners take up the whole screen, so you can’t even see search results. Channel banners take up the entire screen, and you can’t scroll past them, so it’s almost impossible to see what videos are available. When you’re done with a video you can’t go back to the search. If you manage to find the home screen again you have to start over from the beginning.
I like that the app uses quick time player, but it really needs background play so you can exit the app while in PiP. That’s my main feature request, besides that performance just needs to be drastically improved, there shouldn’t be a loading wheel for every swipe.
Love the app, love the platform, and love the functionality. However, please add a favorites or bookmark function. Also, recently the app has started crashing when ever I try to follow a new user. Absolutely nothing on my end has changed between before and after this started happening.
Love that we can get information banned from big tech giants (tyrants) on this platform. Would give you 10 stars for that alone. Please Please add speed variability. I think more people would use this app if they could get through video content at the speed they prefer.
Lacks quality of updates or even updates since I can’t even check any playlists, crashes if I follow a certain amounts of creators and videos randomly still playing after switching to another video. You are better off just using your browser to watch any of their videos since that’s where most of the update went.
1. If I fast forward through a video, I lose sound. The only way I can watch something with sound is to watch from the beginning. This is a problem if I’m watching a long form conversation 2. When picking who I want to follow, other content creators were automatically selected. If I deselected the unwanted content creators the wanted ones also were deselected. 3. I now can’t unfollow anyone.
Good app for exploring amazing content on. There are a lot of fun and interesting videos now I mostly watch. My interests are gaming, tech, memes and educational content and there’s enough fresh content for me to satisfy my preferences. Although I gave it 4 stars because it’s the only app on my iphone that crashes consistently.
Innovative, Organic way to support who you want to support
Odysee/LBRY has such a much more original idea than bastardizing and amalgamating commercials into centralized advertising. It’s called LBC, and it allows you to support who and what You Want to support — donate to the creator or boost the individual piece of content — actual innovation!!!
I love the app but.. no access to rewards through app.
I love the app but it would be nice to access the daily rewards through the app. Not have to go through safari. I do love the app overall though and how you can see your wallet amount. Just wish it had access to rewards.
The app stinks, or the site stinks, or both. But if you fast forward, or rewind, the sound will disappear. You may or may not get it back 15-30 seconds later, but if you do, it will not be in sync with the video. Beyond annoying if you listen, like I do, while doing other things, and sometimes need to go back to verify what you heard, or hear something you missed. As is, this app is close to useless to me.
Odysee is a major data hog. I find I use 2 to 3 times the data to watch a video as I do on Odysee. Since I only have metered data, this is a big problem. The app lags and lags and this seems to be part of the problem. Please come up with a way to work more efficiently so I can dump the Google technocrats.
I love odysee and was thrilled when I found out there was an app. The app is not as good as the website, but it works. For some reason, it treats the transactions page as a home page, when on the desktop it uses your recommended as a home page.
This app is extremely frustrating because however good the content is, it’s impossible to enjoy long form videos as it doesn’t show where one is at in a video— there’s no way to pause it or go to an exact spot. You can speed the video or slow it down but you can’t skip to the place you were at before. I really don’t understand why they would make an app so impossible to use.
I love using this app because it makes me feel ahead of the crowd. Eventually people will catch on. Of course it’s still an app that will only grow and get better. Do not think it’s a finish product. Just enjoy it ✌🏽
It keeps crashing every time I try to watch a video or even try to upload a video. It shouldn’t be doing that one. Anyways I guess I’ll upload my video whenever I can, I would use my laptop but my gameplay is on my phone and not my laptop. Oh well 😔
I’m so glad that there is finally an app for this awesome platform. The app works great too. I haven’t had any problems using it so far. Great work. So glad I don’t have to go through my browser all the time now and there an app I can watch videos from. This is a great day. Hahahaha
For a first app out, it’s pretty good! Can’t wait for the official iPad version though. I rarely use the iPhone for videos anymore so I’m still using the web version on the iPad. Not ideal, but better than staring at the small screen. Any idea when that version will be released?
Admittedly, I have not used this app in awhile, but until today, it has always worked fine. As of today, I cannot access this app; it crashes every time I try to open it. I have tried clearing my Internet history; deleting the app and re-downloading it, etc; all without success. Interestingly, I CAN access my Odysee account via the web.
Heres is my biggest complaint that makes it really hard to use. 1. It needs variable quality. I have slow internet and it makes it unusable when it runs for a minute then stops for 20.
iPhone 13 Pro Max with iOS 15.1.1 PIP works within the app but not on any other screen. Background play/Locked screen play seems to be nonexistent. I don’t know if it’s always been that way because I just downloaded the app. Unfortunately without those functions the app is next to useless for me. Please address these issues. I like Odysse and I want to like the app too. 😉
