I like reading the Register in the morning. The only reason is that some glitches occur that bug me. There are daily items that are color but at least once a week, sometimes more, they’re in b/w. There’s a page of adds for local workers, even the Covid maps are sometimes b/w too. I still don’t understand why even comic section is always b/w, they’re in color on other e-news. I’ve emailed questions why this happens and only get a form email back, no changes.
In addition to the Register, I also read the paper of my local city on line, and the contrast is remarkable. With the Register, I can easily navigate from page to page or jump to the rest of a story. My local paper drives me nuts! It jumps spontaneously and mysteriously to different pages, but you can’t jump to finish a story. Often, the ability to move down a page disappears and instead the type expands greatly but you can’t change the area shown. The only remedy then is to power off my device and reboot. Even opening up the paper is a trial and often takes three attempts. The point of all that is to say the reading the Register online is a pleasure. Well done!
First, I am not a California resident. On earlier vacations, I found the Register to be much better reporting than another well-known area newspaper. So when I worked at the Phoenix airport, it was worthwhile to get the Register off of incoming John Wayne flights. Now I have the availability to read the digital edition whenever I want. I had an acquaintance who graduated college in journalism, who once told me the Register was one of their most studied publications. I also have my favorite column, Honk, so I never miss a Friday edition. I drive to Orange County a few times a year and through the county, on the way to cruises even more, and find his road reports very valuable and entertaining.
Having access to local, reliable daily news is important and valuable. Having digital access saves trees and can be read any time or place. I read the Register every morning before I get my day started- from the headlines to my favorite comics. On the weekends, I look forward to Saturday’s garden section and Marla Jo Fisher’s funny articles. I like that the format looks identical to the real paper and can also be viewed in large enough font that I can read it without my glasses. Keep up the good work, Register.
I have been a hard copy reader of the newspaper for many many years and never thought that I would go to a virtual copy. However, we did that last year due to the extreme high cost of the hardcopy and we enjoy the virtual paper. There have been some changes recently and once those were settled, the virtual paper reading has become easier. The high cost of the hard copy is just debilitating to most people on fixed incomes. There must be a better way.
I have enjoyed reading the OC Register through this App. You get the full newspaper experience conveniently. Operation is very intuitive although sometimes a finger will cause it to go into a different mode from what I want but it was easy to get it back operating like I wanted. Very easy to get the size type you want to view the paper up and it retains between articles nicely. Although I get the paper delivered on Sunday, I have come to prefer using this digital medium.
I love reading the OC Register on my iPad. It is so easy to click on an article and it brings that article up for you to read without scrolling through the pages of the paper to look for the continued article. When you finish one article you simply close it and it puts the whole paper back in view. As a senior citizen I never thought I would say this, but I prefer reading the paper online rather than the actual printed version!
The old app was working well. Recently it was updated and now it is a disaster. Navigation is impossible. When I read an article and try to go back to the full page, it goes to a random page, sometimes up to 10 pages away from the one I was reading. I cannot get to a later section in the paper without scrolling through all the pages before it. Also, there is an advertisement at the bottom(in addition to the ones in the paper itself). When I try to close it, the paper goes back to page 1. Extremely frustrating! Wish I could have given 0 stars.
It’s impossible to navigate. The back arrow takes you back to what I can only describe as the back door; or, the very last page, which is white and has no navigation icons, I only know it’s the last page because I swipe in frustration and have to continue swiping left to right to find my way back to the page I was just reading! The page views at the bottom switch to article views without any input from me, and the article thumbnails don’t let me display them to read. Don’t know who did your user acceptance testing for this newly designed app, but they should be fired!
This paper was great at one time long ago but like most of California it is pretty far WOKE LEFT. But they do have a few conservative and liberal views that they still allow so there’s always hope. I need some local news and since Long Beach has long given up on unbiased news, the Register is my best choice. I do enjoy the app giving me time to read and even go back to issues I’ve missed.
For about a year I was unable to see advertised articles directly from the link. It kept saying “ join” or sign in to your account. I have been a physical paper customer my entire adult life, but there was a glitch somewhere and it wouldn’t accept my sign in. It was annoying, but It appears that has been fixed.
I don’t live in Orange County now, but did for 30 plus years. I look forward to reading the OC Register every day. It has good world, national and local news. It includes features I use daily, like the crossword puzzles. And it presents a fairly balanced view of the news. Plus it is published daily and so many papers these days are eliminating one day each week. I will continue to maintain an annual subscription.
Content is great, loading is much faster since last update. Still encounter some freezes and articles don’t always open as they should. Took me a while to get used to not feeling the paper in my hands, but it’s an overall good experience.
Each morning I look forward to reading The Register on my iPad with coffee in hand. Not only do I NOT have to go outside to locate it, on my iPad it is always clean, the size of print I desire, and requires only one hand to adjust which leaves me another hand to hold my coffee!! A day would not be near as informative and comfortable without this combination!?
Great for reference, saves time, and cuts down on phone calls! So different from years ago when you would have to ask for copies of the paper that had a missed delivery or if it was thrown away. Online works better because it puts you in charge.
Great application to get local OC news and updates. Local sports coverage including high school. The best coverage of COVID updates and statistics, far surpassing the LA Times. Ease of use, though once you try to enlarge print, it is difficult if not impossible to return to where you started. All in all this is easy to use and enjoyable.
This app gives you the newspaper experience without getting your fingers smudged or having to peel wet pages apart. They offer the current edition as well as previous editions to read at leisure. I use the app on my phone as well as on my PC and find it easy to navigate and read.
Navigation is a problem. After you click a story and read it, the app never takes you back to the full newspaper page you were previously on. Instead, the app takes the reader to a spot multiple pages away (sometimes 10 or more). Navigating back to where you were is a pain in the neck. Ugh!
No hassle dealing with a delivery person, no wet new paper in the winter, the whole house can be reading the paper at the same time, no pile of paper trash in the way, and still get the advertising from local businesses that can help us and we can support. Everybody is better off.
Excellent App, very intuitive, loads fast every time and easy to read. Maybe those users with negative results need a different ISP or a new computer or iPhone. I have compared the OCR APP with various other newspaper web sites and it is best in every way. Keep up the good work. I would highly recommend the APP to anyone. :o)
After a recent surgery that left me with only one hand to navigate the world I started to read the online version of the paper. I find it easy to navigate and I am glad I can continue to read my newspaper.
I really enjoy this app because I can quickly look at the articles that are interesting to me and get current information about my local news and stories.
Looks and “feels” like an actual newspaper with the advantages being in digital format. You get all of the local news, national, sports, highlights on new up and coming businesses including new restaurants etc, lots of articles just to name a few …comic strips! Awesome app!
Always had a newspaper and coffee in the morning, but the ipad isn’t too bad to read with. My cats can’t chew it up when they want fed, so this does have a benefit. Now, what makes the news, I have no control. Just don’t take anything as the whole truth.
Ever since the new version of the App was released about two weeks ago the newspaper is almost unreadable on my iPad. I called to complain but I have a feeling that complaint is going nowhere. Why don’t they just go back to the previous version of the App which worked great.? They should look at the LA Times app. It works really well on my iPad. I’m giving them two more weeks then I’m canceling my digital subscription.
Our family and grandchildren live in OC and we live in Bigfork, Montana so enjoy the Register a more conservative paper that keeps us informed online of the New’s and Events in the BIG OC. The Digital version is so Well done. Thank you for All the Efforts of your Team, Staff and Writer’s… Bigfork, Mt.,
I’m new to reading the newspaper on my phone. This one has the screen just like the physical newspapers but still big enough to be legible. A double click on the news title allows you to read it, so i found it very functional.
I used to. Receive the paper each day, but it is such a waste of trees. I have tried other services, and the Register is the best format I have seen for a news paper. Compared to others( L.A. Times) it is head and shoulders above the rest!
OC Register provides a variety of content and well written editorials. The app itself has improved over time but can still be a bit quirky with page-turning or section advancement often balky. But overall, I’m happy.
While i read the hard copy of the newspaper, it’s quite handy to also have access to it online. I can “send” interesting articles to others. I appreciate it.
A Chicago newspaper that I had read for a long time had a buyout for many of my favorite columnists. I decided to cancel it and read a local paper. The LA Times is too liberal for me so someone suggested the OC Register. I have been happy reading it.
Reading the OC Register using their app is simple, easy and convenient. It allows me to magnify articles and even read them in total by clicking on the one I’m interested in reading. Great service—always on time first thing in the morning.
This app is an easy and fun way to read the Register with an affordable electronic subscription. Local reporting is important to the community, and without your support, it disappears. Sign up, tell a friend!
Better for local news and ads than usual on-line options
It is the print version delivered electronically. I prefer this format. You can also grab older copies, like having a week+ of papers laying in a pile. Its a good source for local news.
Thank you for the good cryptogram. I have worked it for years in The Register and no other paper has it. You have the smartest readers! (NY Times puzzle too.) I appreciate being able to download them.🌺
Being new to the OC area I’ve found the OC Register to be very informative and helpful. From local to regional news I can get caught up on all that’s happening especially since I’m not getting out much right now.
Because of this app, I am able to keep connected with our region. I am disabled, and there are times, that I can’t leave my home and I don’t want to ask others for help. The OC register is my daily read!!!!
I love being able to keep up with what’s going on in Yoshi. Rod review of different activities in the different areas with different topics of sports entertainment and news. I really enjoyed getting this newspaper
I’ve read Fryer’s(Sports) print for over 30 years, met the man. Forthright, honest and insight/knowledge are conveyed in his work. Nice bar/example for others on staff and community, for that matter, can strive towards. Thanks
The Register is the singular best place to get accurate reporting. Additionally, it’s about the only place to get local Orange County news. Skip social media if you want real reporting. Subscribe to the Register.
The Orange County eRegister app is like having a newspaper in your hand only your reading it on line & can navigate faster through the stories & headlines faster. It makes reading the newspaper easier this way.
I appreciate learning local and CA news, and the Opinion articles do reflect conservative values. But most of the articles are left leaning, and filled with misleading information. I’ve been a subscriber for about two months; I’m not sure I’ll last much longer given the slant of the paper. This isn’t what I expected from OC Register.
