Good Science App with Lots of Activities. My only suggestion is for additional information or some sort of links to learn more about the given activities would be nice.
This app is definitely one of the coolest and more intuitive I have used. I am a Ph.D. student in Aerospace, and I usually help my siblings work their homework. This app is perfect to effectively and efficiently get an idea across. I am a native French speaker, and this app allows you to learn in different languages; definitely one of my favorite features. The app is also perfect for brushing up on stuff I have not seen in a while or for learning new material fast and easily. I am a visual learner and the simulation environment allows me to easily digest the material I am learning. I guess a picture is always better than a thousand words. I am able to quickly gain insight into a new field without having to do extensive literature reviews. I can have intelligible conversations with people whose studies are not related to mine. I think this app consciously helps me becoming a well-rounded scientist. Overall, I would totally recommend the PhET app if you need to clearly explain or learn some basic scientific concepts, regardless of the language you speak.
I have loved PhET for years as a teacher—they’re the best tool I’ve found for teaching complex topics in a way that addresses the vast majority of learning needs in a classroom. The app is super easy to use, and runs perfectly for me. The sims are the perfect combination of fun and educational. It’s amazing to see learners with a wide range of strengths and struggles light up when they discover something new in a PhET simulation. As a former physics teacher, PhET sims are some of the most important tools in my teaching arsenal, and it’s useful to be able to use them on my phone, or to have students use them on their phones! I also love that the sims have been translated into many different languages, as it increases their accessibility to students with a variety of different native languages.
It can be tricky as an educator to find high quality, hands-on, and interactive science and math resources for students that are also really easy to implement in the classroom. PhET sims have always been a reliable and wonderful educational tool that encourages kids to WANT to think critically and be challenged. They are also really fun and playful! I am so grateful that there is now an app that makes PhET sims even more accessible and available. Highly recommend to any teacher and anyone with kids!
If you are at all interested in science, math, or chemistry this app is worth getting. It has a suite of simulations that keep the subjects fun and interesting. Each sim works like an exploratory tool that you get to play around with. Also the developers keep updating the sims and adding new ones, so that is cool. Would definitely recommend for students or parents looking to get their kids into science.
I normally use PhET simulations within my Nearpod presentations but downloaded the app specifically for my son in third grade. I love that we can access the math sims offline so he can practice on his device anytime. And I found out the app will translate (at least to Spanish) if you change the device language setting! 😱♥️🌎
Hello, I am a student and was first introduced to PhET lab on a web browser for science and just got the app and it is better then on the web browser, on the app it is very easy to find simulations you liked because you can favorite them and then just have only favorites show, the app is definitely worth the 99 cents.
This app has been great for my kids! The kids LOVE exploring all the simulations - playing with circuits, gases, atoms, prism, numbers, equations, and on and on. I LOVE that it is educational screentime! It’s so easy to use, and it even works on long trips when we don’t have internet. Overall, it’s been a go to app for us - for play or for school!
I can’t offer enough applause and appreciation for what a valuable and wonderful resource this is. The variety and quality of the simulations continues to grow and has been invaluable in my teaching practice for many years. Keep up the good work!
This app is perfect for running PhET simulations on your phone, especially if you need to access them offline. The scrolling was a bit laggy before, so I'm happy that was fixed. And it's super cool that the translated versions are included now - I'm sure this will help out classrooms that use iPhones or iPads. Thanks PhET!
This app allows me to easily run the sims without an internet connection or when WiFi goes down. And now that the sims are all translated, I can switch between English and Spanish by changing my iphone language. Totally worth the (very) low price.
These simulations are such amazing resources for teaching science and math concepts to students. I love that this new version includes the ability to switch languages, especially Spanish which is great for ESL students. The best 99 cents you can spend on STEM!
Wow, these simulations cover a lot of ground. It’s nice to be able to have them on mobile devices now (I was generally going to the website before, which is also quite good).
This app is really great. I have loved PhET for years. They create such intuitive, comfortable, and interesting sims. I’m so glad that they put all their new sims into an app! Keep up the good work PhET.
It is one of the few apps that anyone from young children to adults can use equally. Each simulation works with a scientific concept (physical, chemical or biological) and allows for all levels of understanding and learning. I have used the website in class with my college students but use the app exclusively at home with my children. It is almost like a game for younger kids which aquatints them with the simulation. Once they've played around with it, you can start to introduce the concepts. This app can be used in the classroom as part of a inquiry activity, as a demonstration by the instructor, or part of an experiment. It can also be used at home for kids to explore new ideas or be a support if a student does not understand a concept in his or her homework. I highly recommend this app for all ages to introduce scientific concepts. For teachers there are resources online including activities or how to use it in the classroom. I love PhET simulations a lot, Follow them on Twitter or Facebook to hear about their newest simulations !
This app is the best $0.99 investment you can make in education. As a parent it brings the frontier in education research to your child’s fingertips, a product that has been tested with millions of users and that has been designed with your child’s curiosity in mind. As a teacher it provides access to the forefront of curiosity-driven learning to your students on their very own phones, or classroom tablets. I am both a parent and teacher, and have been enjoying PhETs with my students and my children for over ten years. You will never regret bringing this wonderful app into your world.
Our son’s K12 public school has been requiring he interact with your simulations as part of his science curriculum. I’m shocked that all of your simulations are still in Java, and even more egregious is that some are only supported on Windows. All we have is in old MacBook running the current MacOS and had to bend over backwards to install the Java Runtime - this is from when I was in undergrad. To run the Plate-Tectonics simulation in particular you need Windows. WHY?! So I turn to the link at the bottom of the page for the Plate-Tectonics simulation to download the iOS app instead. We paid for it, and the simulation isn’t even available! I’m just as frustrated by our Public School that they are requiring educational apps that are universally supported.
I have worked with PhET sims for years on informal and formal learning science environments and I have always found them a great learning tool. Now that it is accesible on iPads it makes it so much easier to incorporated in after school programs, k12 classrooms, and even at home. The other day I was trying to get some work done while taking care of my 3 year old nephew. Not easy! I gave him the iPad and put on some PhET sims and he was entertained for a good 30 minutes with the calculating areas sim. Now, he asks me to show him again. Great job guys!!!
I've been using the PhET website in my science classroom for over ten years so when they came out with the app I downloaded it immediately. My then 5 year old saw me playing it and wanted to give it a try. I was surprised how intuitive it was for her! My 3 year old loves it as well, his favorite is the Color Vision simulation, which he calls "Colored Sprinkles." Both kids can play with the simulation on their own, some content is above their heads but it is always fun!
I got this app because I've used other web-based PhET simulation activities with my 4th graders. I particularly liked the Faraday simulation as an extension activity for our Magnets and Electricity science unit. I was excited to come across this app and didn't blink an eye at having to pay 99 cents for it. I've found many other simulations my students will like (my six year old came across it on my iPad and wouldn't put it down! He was fascinated by the Gravity/orbit simulation!)
I use Phet sims in my undergrad level classes. They are research based, superb quality. For those complaining that not all the sims from the website run- thats correct and properly explained on the download page - java doesnt run on pads! This is a great selection of sims, and a responsive and professional developer crew. Go Phet!
I use these simulations in class all the time, and it’s nice that I can now plan lessons by using the app on my phone! Thank you for all the work you do with the simulations. I am very thankful to have this awesome resource for my students!
I’m starting to get into engineering in high school and loved how many simulations there are, but these are way to basic. It gives you an introduction but you only have 5 min worth of material from each simulation. Example: the Build an Atom only let’s use 10 protons. You only get to learn about 10 atoms???
Possible prospective student of the University of Colorado, just bought the app. For some reason, the registrar of videos and tools isn't loading as depicted on the preview of the app, just the table of contents, math, physics, etc. When you can, please try to fix this. Thanks.
