I don’t know why people are complaining but there are only like 2-3 ads at the mid and near the end. The beginning only has 1 ad. This is so much better than crunchyroll. Anyways, this app has introduced me to anime barley anyone watches which I really enjoyed. I feel special for knowing anime with sometimes less than 5k members on MAL. The shows aren’t bad at all and are so much more enjoyable BECAUSE they’re old. This introduced me to GTO, one of the best longer anime (I usually watch 12-25 ep anime). This app is perfect and I have no complaints. Thank you for reading.
When I log in to the app, I have to sit through 2-5 ads 30 seconds each before I pickup where I left off with the program I’m currently watching. Once I finally start watching the program it’s not but 3 - 7 minutes later and I’m watching the same ad (4- 5 ads) again chewing up my entertainment time. There needs to be limit to the ads, perhaps 1 and only 1 ad at the beginning, 1 and only 1 ad in the middle, 1 and only 1 ad at the end. That’s not to much to ask for is it. I know the app is free, but enough is enough when it comes to the ads. Perhaps mixing them up would be a good idea,( NO GOVERNMENT ADS) they always promise the world but never deliver. Maybe an ad about libraries, Red Cross giving blood, Good Will donating stuff you don’t need any more( it’s tax deductible ), those kind of ads. Again 1 at the beginning, 1 in the middle, and 1 at the end. I’m just one button away from deleting this app.
I’m confused and annoyed that when you favorite a show or movie that looks intriguing and look in the favorite tab I only shows one episode that you favorited so you would have to favorite like 50episodes of a show to get the entire series on the favorite tab, but if it’s a movie it works fine. But then the most weird thing ever when you favorite a show on the favorite tab it doesn’t show the name of the show that you favorited so if u favorite a show so you can remember to watch it later, then you watch it to find the second episode you might have to search every through every single show available in retro crush to find the second episode smh. I mean you could just put in some notes on your phone as a watch list but it’s just annoying honestly
I was so excited when I found that Retro Crush had some of my favorite titles! I downloaded it specifically for Astro Boy, Unico, Yakitate, and Boogiepop Phantom, and watched them all with no problem before today. Today, I noticed the app needed an update. I thought the app would be better but it’s worse! The episodes are all out of order and don’t match the description, and now I can’t watch some of my faves without a subscription. By the way, I don’t remember the subscription being so expensive. It used to be like a one-time $1.99 payment for no ads and now they’re asking for almost $5 a month! My heart hurts, this app took a turn for the worse and it used to be my favorite. The design is better but that’s it. Please stop changing good things! I may have to let this app go. ://///
Overall it’s a great experience. Whether I’m finding old titles I’ve seen and forgotten, or finding ones I’ve never seen before, it’s full of gems that I want to keep watching. However, I would very much like to have the app be able to cast to my TV. I can use AirPlay, but that requires my phone to be on and the app to be open on the screen plying the video. I had hoped the cast button would display my TV and allow me to cast, but it appears to not work properly and it searches indefinitely for available devices only to show none. If this is fixed I’ll gladly change to a 5-star rating. Here’s hoping it works soon.
Good lord, for as much as weebs love bragging about being sub purists, you all sure can’t read. RETRO crush. Meaning they probably aren’t going to have your crappy my hero whatever. they’re adding god awful asian dramas, but there must be some sort of demand for it. As long as it doesn’t take over, I guess it’s okay. Adding too many 2010’s anime. Is that already considered retro? I also wish that I could have a “watch later” option. On a positive note, this is a cool app. They’re literally giving you free, (mostly) older, anime. All you have to do is watch some ads. If old people can sit through 30 minutes of commercials, you “zoomers” can sit through 5 ads.
I have been on an 80s anime binge lately and somehow found this app???? I am SO HAPPY, they have a TON of throwback goodies, I love the constantly-playing shows like it’s a TV… so many shows. I’m thrilled. Ofc there’s some kinks to work out.. like sometimes the app freezes on my Fire TV, and I wish there was an easier cleaner interface, and being able to favorite from home screen/search. But overall I’m so happy this exists !!! I have it playing and it’s my fave ugh.
A great addition to the growing streaming service market
Ever since I first saw anime like Naruto and Death Note on their respective Toonami and Adult Swim blocks, even the brief glimpse of Gigantor that I caught one New Year’s, I’ve been hooked on the whole concept known as anime. This app, just browsing through the home page alone, is a great trip exploring the classic, hand-drawn master and trashterpieces of a bygone era for a potential otaku like myself. My only complaint is searching for the titles could use some improvement, i.e. a browse by year/decade feature to give some of the less popular or known titles in the app a chance to shine.
I’m 100% behind the idea but please make your app work. On startup, it’s the RetroCrush logo over a while background and after about five minutes it’ll disappear and just be a white background. I’ve turned my phone off and on several times, along with deleting and reinstalling the app several times as well. It just does not work. Edit: I got it to work but I’m not sure how.
I enjoy retro crush, the shows that I love to watch here on RetroCrush are, Roman warriors, Astro boy, and many of the other shows and movies here on retro crush, huge fan of anime shows, my favorite one is Dragon Ball, Z, but I also love the classics that are here on RetroCrush, I have no problems with the app whatsoever, I can watch it on my Roku and my Vizio TV, I would like to be notified about new arrivals, I have notifications, enabled, retro crush is awesome,
I love this so much! I downloaded this on my Roku and my phone and found lots of anime shows I probably wouldn’t have found without it! Though, some are only in sub and I find that quite annoying. Apart from that, there’s only few ads, maybe 1-2 for me when I’m watching a show, and they’re not too annoying! Super short and not many to watch. 100% recommend downloading this! Love it!!! 💖💖💖
Excellent app and the service itself considering it offers many classic animes, some of which i have never seen before, and it offers both the original and the english. The classic includes well known and beloved anime such as Street fighter II the animated movie, Project Ako, and City Hunter just to name a few. I am looking forward to see more anime classics getting added.
This is an excellent streaming service if you love old school anime. Hence the title. I have a crunchyroll account, but their library of older anime is limited. This has a much bigger selection of anime from the 90’s and earlier Only fault is that some of my favorite movies, “Cashan Robot Hunter” and “Orion” aren’t there yet. But this site does a good job of updating their selection pretty often.
We need more shows like these often Lee like we don’t get another these products nowadays it’s really interesting that now enemies becoming the best thing ever it’s like amazing thank you very much retro rush I love retro shows and I like anime and I love this this is very interesting in this is a really man this is so hyped I hope like there’s so much shows like this more often
The title of the app says it all. I fail to see how dumb some people are by giving this bad reviews just because it doesn’t have the newer anime. Retro mean older. So it plays losers stuff there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. It’s free so of course there will be ads. DEAL WITH IT. I saw one person give it a 1 Star just because it did not have the anime they were looking for. Sad. It is great for what it has.
Keep it up i love this ish Id love a rating system implemented. I feel like reading the abstract sums up the anime pretty well but seeing weather the community liked it would be really helpful in finding cool new shows. No need for a comment section that stuff turns ugly fast. But like a star system or maybe like “4 beckoning cats out of 5” sorta thing. No need to take it self to seriously. Keep it up love the app.
Great mix of classic anime, even if some of the newer titles seem a little random and out of place. It is weird to see Demon City Shinjuku right next to Card Captor Sakura. My only real complaint is the language options. Subbed and dubbed anime are listed as separate titles and don’t show up in the same categories. It would be nice to have both under the same listing, or pair them in some way.
For a free streaming service it is beyond compare so much so that it puts many pay streaming service to shame. The content is to die for you all most never see any bugs or glitches. This is costumer service at it’s best more so if you are a anime fan you get good content with out any stupid woke garbage messing up the story.
It’s FREE they have subs and dubs what more could you ask for but I hope they keep on adding more like inuyasha and evangelion yes there are a lot of options but I hope they will continue to add more overall it’s an amazing app there are no adds which is the best part heck might even be better then Crunchyroll and Funimation combined they charge but these guys don’t so props to them for makeing this app
The phone app works fine but the app on my smart tv doesn’t at all the ads break the shows I’m watching completely I’ve tried everything that’s been recommended to me but nothing works it does the same thing on the AsianCrush app as well on my tv
Great selection of shows and movies. Stars docked for two reasons: 1) Poor browsing/search experience. With lots of classic content, it would be nice to be able to filter by year or decade. In-app search does not seem to work properly. 2) Not sure if others managed a way, but I could not cast to my TV. Cast button initially showed on app but was possibly an “Airplay” button in disguise (they are different). This button eventually just flat-out disappeared.
This is all retro anime content so it’s not like this app’s creator is authoring any of the content. So all that you can ask of them is to deliver it via a decent user interface. But it fails miserably at that. Too many details to give here... but this app seriously needs a complete overhaul by a top-shelf user interface and user experience professional. The crummy UI definitely gets in the way of the experience, even for a paying user. But when you’re not fighting the bad UI, there is some good content to enjoy here.
Can’t log in to retro crush keeps requesting parameter and I don’t know what that is and it keeps saying my account is invalid even though I’m Putting it in correctly then it says my account doesn’t exist but when I tried to make a account to the same info it says account already exists
Not easy to use, especially on Apple TV. Give us a main menu a search and a favorites icon to click on the main screen. Up down left right click icon, that easy. Not being able to favorite series is inconvenient and annoying and is the main drawback. Let us favorite the series we want to watch, give us a quick Icon to access those series and mark episodes watched... this is not that hard. Saving series to playlist would also be convenient.
This is truly a great app for retro anime. It’s great for kids watching My Hero Academia and Naruto to see what anime was like and to gain an appreciation of how we got to today’s anime. I will continue to look and wait for more anime from the 80s and 90s to show up. I would like to be able to watch without the ads if that’s possible but if not we will all survive.
I am so happy that I was able to find a platform that I was able to show some of my all-time favorite anime from back in the day. I hope that this site continues to bring more of those retro anime and I will try to see every single one of them as much as possible. Thank you for what you are doing
Okay so I was on the hunt for anime apps because I’m trying to get into it, and this app is pretty good! My only prob is the adds. There is a good amount of adds, but they are sooo long. 1 minute adds is pretty long. Especially when there is 1/2 adds both being 1 minute. Could you make them 30 sec adds? Others then that I love this app!!<33
Crazy that this is all completely free. The options are a bit scarce for now but definitely excusable considering it's a new service and again, it's completely free. Mostly everything seems to be offered both dubbed and subbed, and hopefully the selection will only grow! Very promising service.
This is a lovely app for retro anime obviously there’s no naruto or mha because it’s main purpose is older anime lol. I can’t wait for the future of this app and they add more content to watch it has a lot of potential. My only complaint is there not a section to customize our account I’d like to be able to update my password. ❤️❤️❤️
This wonderful specially if you retro anime enthusiast like myself you’ll enjoy this app, not many ads didn’t even know this app had any. The only thing I complaint about this app there isn’t a lot classics on here like Trigun, Desert Punk, and karas etc. But considering this free app and no membership fees, this all and all is great app for retro enthusiasts.
I understand the need for ads and to generate money and that’s fine but can you just let some of the adds please and also it would amazing if you can add patlabor movies and show!!! But overall I’m really enjoying the app because I’m a huge fan of old school anime. That’s mostly what I watch
I’d give this 5 stars but I gave it 4 stars because how short the anime list is compared to Crunchyroll. I really like the idea to have a streaming app full of retro anime, but I’d like some new retro anime if you can. There might be a lot of ads but it’s honestly not much as how Crunchyroll pushes ads on you. This app is really good for when you’re bored or you need some entertainment in your life. In conclusion, GOOD APP!
This app is a dream come true for lovers of older anime. Retro Crush has a pretty solid library, but I hope they keep adding to it, there’s definitely a lot more classics they could add. But the layout and selection is definitely solid. Again, here’s hoping they continue to improve the app as time goes on.
My shows aren’t on a loop anymore not sure why when It did on old version. Please help other then that great selections all i watch is retro anime anyway this is my only problem since I’ve gotten so used to it
I mean there are lots of great anime’s and I really like the format of it. It kind of reminds me of the Netflix format. But there’s just one thing I don’t know if it’s only me but I couldn’t find one anime I knew. Like some bigger anime’s like um Naruto and Haikyuu. It’s was all smaller anime’s that not many people knew and there’s nothing wrong with liking a smaller anime. This app has lots of great anime’s but in my opinion there should be some bigger anime’s to.
The app has a good selection of anime. And works well enough the reason it’s 3 stars is I can’t get video to play on landscape. The way the player buttons are set up also looks like it wants the content to be played in landscape it really makes trying to change any thing playback wise impossible as buttons are overlapping one another.
Although there are a small amount of ‘good’ nostalgic shows on this app and it’s nicely presented, they use their Instagram to make you think it features top quality shows. However, in fact nearly half of the content they post is of shows that they have 0 rights for....Sailor Moon, Evangelion, Trigun, Dragoball, the list goes on...also Mostly Retro, Always Fresh makes 0 sense by definition... don’t waste ya time on this app unless like you liked Samurai Pizza Cats.
Not gonna lie this app has a ton of potential, it runs nearly flawlessly but I just wish it had a few more recent animes. They don’t have to be the newest ones just ones within the last 5 years
I love the titles that RC offers. My only complaint with the app so far is that it won’t save your place (hasn’t for me) if you close out of a movie or episode. You have to restart the video you were watching and set it to the time signature. Hopefully they will add/fix this feature soon. I’ll rate it 5 stars when it does.
Only reason i’m not giving five stars is cuz i can’t seem to access a watchlist of any kind, which makes keeping track of my shows a little hard. Still, don’t miss this one if you love pre-2000s anime as much as i do. There’s some shows here i haven’t been able to find in years.
So this app is amazing overall a good app to download. But i didn't think they would have old old anime that does not include hunter x hunter 1999. I just wish they had more variety of dubs but don't get me wrong i love hearing the characters saying nani in sub. Its a good app but not an app for me unless im feeling old. 😇☠️
This app is really good has you see on the title Arcadia of my youth is up my ally I love anime a lot when I found this old anime I loved it a lot of people think I’m weird for liking the harlock series hey retro crush creators could you please put on rurouni Kenshin
Amazing classic anime. The app bugs are what prevent me from subscribing to premium. They’ve made definite improvements but introduced other bugs. Now on iPhone you can’t sign in (signing up is the only option). Additionally, on Apple TV when watching a title there is no way to go back to the app (pressing back closes the app).
If u love classic anime this is definitely the app for u there’s ads but hey it’s free quality content Only thing I would like for them to fix is for the app to recognize the hat u already watch sometimes u watch an episode and it shows up as it hasn’t been already seen it
I love the variety of older anime on this application. I am a bigger fan of older shows from the 80s and 90s, compared to the titles being cranked out today. I hope RetroCrush continues to grow and offer more!
Legit, one of the best anime apps available right now. While every other platform is following suit and featuring new age soulless anime (not all of the but most), Retro Crush has the classics. Offering both subtitled and dubbed options. I will continue to support the platform going forward.
A free service is great but please add the option of a cheap subscription for people who would rather pay you than watch the same ad repeated 2-4 times in a row every five minutes. That being said it’s a great anime selection and I can’t wait to see what else gets added!
I am giving the app only 1 star, since I can't log into it. I can log in from my chrome browser without problems, but once I try to login from the app it gives me an error. I will not use the app without logging in. I am a paying member and I will not watch adds if I am paying the subscription. Also I can't check my history and favorites. Please take care of that problem.
It’s hard to see more than one anime at a time, and a lot of the titles/descriptions on the homepage are white text on a light colored background. Hadn’t opened the app in a while, and was disappointed by the featured content on the homepage The broadcast tv feature looks nice now though!
