Monthly Subscription?
I 100% ADORE the app and think that is wonderful. The only option I am getting for a premium subscription is the annual plan. The app to store it shows that there is a monthly plan available. I plan to upgrade to the annual plan, for the moment a monthly plan fits a better with my dwindling disposal income this month. I’d love to be able to access all of the premium features for a monthly rate until I can upgrade to the annual plan in a few weeks. I have gone to faq/help in the app, on your website, and pretty much tried every way under the sun (I know slightly dramatic, lol) yet I can’t find a way to access that option. Have I missed something somewhere? Could the app developer please point me in the right direction? I’d super appreciate it 😊 As I have already gone a bit long with this review, I won't go into a lot of detail, but I highly recommend this app. I have tried about five rock/gem/crystal Identifiers so far & this one is hands down the most accurate, informative & the UI is far less confusing. I have been totally impressed! Update (5 mins later) So my brain kicked in & I went to the expired trial in my subscriptions & went to view all plans. My apologies for making those that read this suffer through my confusion above. I still wanted to leave the praise, but pressed for time at the moment, I’m not able to edit out my subscription location struggle. Thanks for the app!

Love this app...so much potential!!
I’m a collector of crystals, so an app that allows you to simply photograph a stone & then identifies it for you is like a dream come true. While there is definitely room for improvement, it seems the developers of the app are well aware of this, encouraging the user to participate in this process, which I appreciate. I’d love to see a few things, such as: 1) the ability to print out ones rock /crystal collection, (ie I have 70 stones in my collection in the app, so a visual color chart that allows one to include your original photos and the name & main properties of each rock) I think would be super exciting, instead of just downloading other people’s charts of “the most important stones” since this is ultimately subjective and could be very creative. 2) the ability to add text to one’s personal collection. For instance, if I could, I’d write my own metaphysical associations and/or properties of the stones, & how I use the stone in my own life/work. While there is currently a plethora of source material in this realm, to combine the ability to identify & create one’s own personal, experiential source material via photograph and then recorded uses, metaphysical properties etc. would make this app an essential tool in one’s own process of discovery and learning.

So glad I downloaded this😀
I’ve been a rock collector for so long and have been looking for a good app that I can trust. And this app is really accurate!. Before I got this app I used to ask my dad which rocks they were and he’d help me the best he could, But I was always thinking is this actually that rock,How rare is it?,would someone buy it and I could make money? I’m so happy I found this app it answers all my thoughts and questions. And I may only be 15 years old but I am planning on searching for more rare rocks and crystals!. But before it showed me to add to my favorites and now I can’t. And I don’t know if it will stay that way and if it’s the apps fault or if it’s because of my phone but if you know if it’s the app please fix it and maybe add some more books we can buy to help with rocks and crystals. I’ve been thinking about buying some and it might be more helpful for your downloaders to search more and it could also be more helpful for you guys too, You see if there’s more options and books with more and different information about rocks and crystals then more people would probably buy them. Just think about it. Also sorry for this being so long. (Just trying to help.) Have a good day.

Raw Stones
I’m a native of the Big Sky State of Montana. And with our world in the process of changing comes natural disasters, unfortunately. In our final months of summer the heat index was high enough to cause severe flooding across much of our upper elevations. And in my line of business,an experienced Concrete Construction Contractor for over 30 years has made me somewhat of a “Rock Hound” and definitely an avid Gemstone and Raw mineral stones collector. Very confident in my skill set to recognize Precious Raw Stones your “Rock Identifier App” is very accurate and has made my hobby more enjoyable knowing I have a very valuable collection. Not only did it correct a very crucial error or should I say mis-evaluation on a stone I thought was some kind of a Clear Quartz or Sea Glass turned out to be a 153.7 carat Raw Diamond that had been washed out of its original resting place, thousands of years before it was actually pushed out by the natural forces of the Earth. After a few different opinions it’s estimated to be worth in the seven figures area which is life changing! I’m the biggest skeptic I know so for me to give this “Rock Identifier App” a HUGE shoutout it’s definitely worth it! #rawinthe406 #yellowstones

Awful
The latest update has it now showing just one option of what rock it is when you take a picture… it used to show you a handful of possible options, and then you could determine which one seemed to fit best. A one-rock ID is ridiculous, because half of the time if you take a picture at a slightly different angle or lighting, the result will change- so this is nowhere near accurate, now. They are basically just guessing what it might possibly be, instead of what it likely is. Also you used to get unlimited rock IDs, by just bypassing the money-grab subscription screen- now you get 3 a day. I very much get needing to make money, but I will NEVER buy a subscription and a good number of app users are also not interested in ever buying a subscription, for something that over time does not offer any meaningful change in content- it is simply access to the same content, month after month. This is not a magazine subscription for goodness sake, it is a database for collected rocks. If you actually had a decent option like a reasonable one-time lifetime purchase, I would have bought this years ago. Instead there is only an overpriced annual subscription to do things that I can do on my own with google images, mindat, and the notes app. Make it competitive to that and perhaps you will have more customers. But this is currently very unworthy of its price tag.

Awesome app!
As others have noted, I love this app almost more than any other app on my phone. I have over 1000 stones cataloged in this app. The app continues to improve the identification of stones, and I appreciate that it is learning as time goes on. I would really appreciate if they would add a few more Synergy 12 Stones to their identification - for example,Phenacite. The only real concern I have is that I have all my stones here and I have used this as my inventory. I would love a way to be able to download my inventory so that I can save it and or print it, as I am worried that something could happen and I would lose my entire inventory. Also, if there was an easy way to categorize the stones instead of just by date. Perhaps there is a way to do that that I don’t know. Otherwise, I think it’s the best rock and gemstone identifier out there. The ability to just take a picture of your stone have a catalog is incredible. I also appreciate the new tabs to read about properties of the stone as well. Keep up the good work -I really appreciate it. If anyone is considering downloading this app, and/or subscribing please don’t hesitate. It’s awesome.

Been waiting a long time for something like this
I’ve downloaded and used nearly ever app available on google and apple trying to find something that works this well and accurate. Do all my rocks get properly identified…no,however, I’m also not a geologist so maybe there’s a few I’m wrong about. This app gives multiple choices to run through and info about those choices. I’ve not used another app that’s as accurate or pristine. My only issue with this app is the astronomical price combined with no feed to speak to others about what you have or help identifying in a way that a computer can’t pick up. I know I will be canceling my membership shortly because I can be paying this much for a visual collects and identification to only use a few times a month but that app it’s self is total great. I think 12$ a month would be pushing it but that’s the most I’d be willing to pay month to month. Try this app for at least a month if you are a rock hound or trying to boost your knowledge. It’s pretty good and easy to use.

I freaking love this app!
Listen, NO APP EVER will accurately identify 100% of the time, but this one… I have had the premium version for 2 years and it has more than paid for itself. You need to take a focused photo in decent light. Otherwise, it just doesn’t have enough to work with. That’s so easy though! I find that the photos with best results are taken in natural sunlight with minimum shadows, and with the specimen resting on a stationary surface, not in your hand. Also keep in mind that the best side of a rock to photograph is not necessarily the “prettiest” side, but the one with most detail. When I take the extra few seconds to get the right photo, I get a positive ID from this app almost always. And I like how there are other suggestions for ID listed in order of certainty. And I love how the premium version allows me to keep record of my collection in a log with my own photos that are labeled with ID and all accompanying information, plus examples of other specimens like it.

Not free anymore?
Update: Ok, so you need to subscribe to grow your collection, or you’re stuck with what you already have. Too bad! I’m so disappointed! Original: This is the best app of its kind. Most of the time I get the right result, a couple of times I even got tricked on buying a stone and this app told me it wasn’t what I thought I got. Also, the app is allowing me to modify the name of the rock that I scanned (in case it gave me the wrong answer), which is great because they like to improve the app with our help; other apps of this kind require subscription to be able to do that. Good job here! I have a large rock collection and I organized it by color within this app. It took me long enough to realize there’s a easy way to number them so they appear in the right order in my collection. A problem that baffles me is, when I acquire a new rock and want to place it in the right place in my collection, I give it a number that belongs to that place I want it to be, but that number is already taken by another rock and the app doesn’t notify me of having two rocks with the same number, which is very confusing when you have many rocks. But I’ve gotten used to it and I can fix it quickly. Great app!

Much Improved
Update: The app has improved a ton since my original review so I am updating this to 5 stars. It’s been really on the money lately. The auto color change is gone (yay) and the accuracy has really gone up. Love to see it. ——— Original review: I have this company’s plant app, which is amazing, so I have high hopes that this will eventually gets to where it need to be but so far Rock ID leaves a bit to be desired. The results so far have been pretty iffy. Probably gets it right about 60% of the time but I e had to adjust a few times for stones that look very similar. Some it could not even find. I think crystals in general are tougher than plants because they don’t have as many unique identifiers. And with phone photos two pinks stones are gonna look like rose quartz. I’m using this more to keep track of my collection than I’d unknown stones because wit just hasn’t been reliable enough for the more obscure stones or colors / shapes. Also recently the app has been changing the color of my stones as I take a picture?? The nice background free edit the app does automatically also adjusts the color to match the stones typical coloration but that’s not the stone I have. It turned my teal adventurine tower into a typical green color. I don’t want that and would love for this feature to be optional. I guess it’s assuming the photos are bad / incorrect but that’s not always the case. Anyway - hoping this improves with time and more data input

Rock identifier
no, this game does not have any ads and if you take a picture of a rock, it will tell you what kind of rock it is and everything about it. It is free to play no Wi-Fi required but if you take a picture of you know it's not a rock but if you take a picture of it anyways, it'll identify it is not a rock, but if you take a picture of rocket, I'll tell you if it's a diamond crystal or rock or a rock stone or sandstone, but this is a really cool app and you can add rocks to your collection and download them you can discover mini mini rock so different kinds. It'll tell you the hardness of what it's made of and if it's uncommon or rare or found all over the US or all over the world but get this game today. It is a really fun and cool game. I have 1000 rocks in my collection so far yes there are in app purchases but I don't need to put in any purchases is because I have all that I need click below and download today rock identifier.

Great App- Premium is also well worth the money!
This has become one of my most used apps! This is one of the only subscriptions I kept after a big purge to save money. It’s worth every penny if you are regularly wanting to identify stones and/or keep tabs on what is in your collection. I would also recommend this app (even just subbing for a month) when going on vacation anywhere where there are a lot of rocks like when camping, at a river, etc. It can be a fun family activity where everyone finds the coolest rocks and then you get to identify them! Great fun for families or enthusiasts. I have found it to be extremely accurate, except in certain instances. Sometimes if you acquire a unique variation, you may have to help it out and correct the name, but even when trying to identify stones, it can at least point you in the right direction and help to confirm or narrow down identification. I have had some stones that each side you photograph will give you a new identification, but you can take those suggestions and either do a Google image search or I sometimes search Etsy listings that can give you a better idea of what you have. It does seem to struggle over solid black stones which is to be expected. Anyway, you definitely can’t go wrong with this app and you won’t regret purchasing the premium edition either.

A year “after purchase” review!!
I’ve scanned 28k stones in the year I’ve used it and the accuracy remains at 85%. I know almost every mineral so this doesn’t affect my overall review personally, but it may cause trouble with inexperienced collectors. To mislabel a toxic stone as an entirely different mineral can allow people feel comfortable enough to touch with no protection or gift it not knowing it’s potentially filled with heavy metals, radioactivity, arsenic, etc. Which brings me to my next observation, minerals that are a “potential match” should have a warning regardless if the main match is non-toxic or not. Being in the same visual group is risky enough for beginners. The update doesn’t allow already logged minerals to have a label option so there’s that too. Extremely unhappy about that as a subscriber. The app tends to slow down and freeze more as your collection grows so it can be frustrating in the field waiting for my catalog to load in 100°F 🥵 Overall, I’d still recommend it over other identifiers in the App Store.

Love it!
i’ve been trying to get into witchcraft lately and i’ve loved finding out the healing properties of different stones. i have some red agate, but i couldn’t find it on the app. i have realized some of my stones were on the app, but didn’t have the tab of “healing properties”. (the stones are garnet and tiger’s eye) i’m not sure if this just means they don’t have healing properties, or if the app just doesn’t have the info. i’ve tried to test the app and see if it would pick up the stones as what they actually are, but it was incorrect. my stones are really tiny, like grains of rice, so it might just be the size. other than that, i collect rocks and it’s great to know what they are and if they have any healing properties. however, i do have a suggestion. i cleanse my crystals with moon/sun water and it would be great to know if my newer crystals can be in water or not.

This app is trippin’ DO NOT DOWNLOAD👎😭
I just did 5 star so I could get to the top of the reviews so people could see this anyway, you can only do 2 rock pics per day and my sister likes to collect rocks a lot and so every time she gets like 3-5 rocks then you can’t even do 3 rock pics you can only get 2. Also when I try to do the 7 day free trial it won’t even let me click it😡. The only thing I like about the game is that when you pay for the premium then you don’t have to pay for it again it’s like no auto-renewal fees. So I don’t totally recommend this game but it’s kind of good. Thank you for taking time to read my review and please developer fix this game I know you want money but people will only pay for your game if it’s actually worth paying. Again thank you for reading this. PEACE ✌️!!!!!

Totally worse money!
I first ran across the Rock Identifier app and had a trial.… Probably 30 days… And when it came time to let it go or subscribe I let it go thinking that I wouldn’t need it very much… As I went on I realize that I was definitely going to use this app and it had a reasonable price tag for a year… It has never steered me wrong. it has always been accurate and if it’s in doubt it gives you other options that it might be. I really can’t say enough about it. It’s definitely worth of money and in comparison to what other rocket identifiers gave you it is equivalent of three apps in one, a stone identifier a crystal identifier and properties for healing… Probably more than three but I know that I don’t have to subscribe to anything else since I’ve had it thanks very much Charlotte PNW

The most awesome app I have found to date!
I am hard to please, and love gaining knowledge, especially in things like science and geology, and similar topics. I am very thoroughly impressed with this app. My new all time favorite app Ever! So much information! My only concerns are these: I may get so into rocks that I forget about everything else, which could be a serious problem, as I think I’m already addicted! And, I’m worried about the possibility that my brain might explode! But now I have a one-stop shop for all things rock! No, YOU rock, Rock Identifier! Sorry, I also love puns! lol Keep up the amazing work you do with this amazing app! Thank you for moving my hobby up a few notches! I will remain forever grateful for your app and those behind it, that’s an impressive team! 👍🏼👍🏼 …Way up!😍

Astounding , Sensational & Thorough
I was quite surprised at the ability of this app to identify even the little morsels of crystals in my Necklace Charms. This App gives you so many different examples of the possible incarnations that each stone/crystal/mineral can come in. Pictures of numerous color a variations, both Raw & Tumbled versions. Each picture you take to identify is given 2 or 3 different possible matches, each match having plenty of example pictures for you to easily narrow down & feel assured as to which the 2 or 3 options of Crystals/Minerals displayed is the correct one. Followed by a whole slew of factoids, the geological processes that created it, it’s uses in wholistic medicine/spiritual & energy work as well as myths, legends & history surrounding the stone.

No more witchy wonder
Ever go to the witchcraft store and buy up a bunch of crystals and rocks and then get back and put them in the salt so that they cleanse and then never get around to cataloging them and then they sit there for months if not years in moonlight and getting dust from the shelf and you think “ I have to get on the Internet and I have to figure out what each of these rocks is it’s gonna take forever” and so you never do it and they continue to sit there? Well, you don’t have to do that again! Just use this app and identify what you have and save a collection in the app! I love the people who made this. If only it had a sister app or feature for us witches or new age people to add features we need to remember .!

Even with help I don’t know what rocks I have
First of all, I am not being negative towards the app, I am poking fun at myself. I just don’t understand labeling any better than before I downloaded this app. Lol. The app is actually very useful, I just need to understand the order of naming rocks or minerals better. You know, Order, family, genus, species type thing, but with rocks. Depending on what angle, lighting, and exposure, I get several results and suggestions for one rock. I’m not sure how to determine which result is the best or most accurate name of the rock I want information on. I’m still learning, but I do recommend this app for anyone looking for more information on rocks and minerals around us. It is very useful and I have learned a ton, I just need to process the information better.

This is the best rock and gem identifier app ever!
I am in the process of identifying every gem and mineral in my jewelry collection. This app allows me to keep a record of each, along with an enormous amount of information. I am doing this for my heirs and friends. when I pass, my executor is inviting everybody to the house for a party and she's going to lay out all the jewelry and everyone may choose exactly what they wish. They'll know what each gem is. There is more than one birthstone chart and show each month may have five or six different gems depending if it is the Hindu chart or the American chart, etc. Some gems represent the hour of the day that you were born, or the day, and so everyone will know what each one stands for.

YES! It is worth the buy!!
I paid the $30 to have the yearly premium account and it was SOOOOO worth it! The scanner is incredibly accurate, even offering a few possibilities of the type of stone if the scan wasn’t the best quality picture or lighting. I can easily go back and re-read the information on my crystals and stones from my collection when I am not sure which one to use. They even have guides on how to distinguish fake and real versions of stones (with pictures)!!!! I LOVE that in the information about the stone, they included the metaphysical details as well, which was very helpful for my understanding and knowledge growth!! Thank you for such an amazing app with such a user friendly experience!!!

at first I tested it on a obviously fake object it was actually plastic but I thought it be interesting to see what it looked like then I tested it on my amethyst which I got through a little around the world kit and you got it right so so far it’s working great and with my newfound interest in finding crystals I love it and it leaves a lot of information with all of the crystals even the ones you have even found yet but i think it would be cool if you could have the picture of your crystal one of the pictures instead of your ( i know it’s a bit counterproductive but with my picture taking skills I think this would be awesome to be honest) never mind i figured out how to do it!

Good, but…
TLDR- Great app but has some flaws I love the app, it helps me identify my crystals and their properties. I don’t like that the app is constantly promoting premium. It’s 30$ per year, and I think that’s a bit much… this app works great without a premium subscription, but there are a few think that are not included without one. There are also a few flaws, like the lighting effecting the answer. For example: if the flash is on when you take the picture then it may not be correct. I had some smoky quarts and when I scanned it with the flash it said it was 5 else, but when I turned of the light it got it correct. So that’s just a few things to take into a-count before downloading this app. Over all I do love the app and use it on a daily <3

Disappointed in changes
I’ve been using the app for a while now on a premium membership. I’ve always really liked it. Even if not every ID is correct, a lot are, but it allows you to explore properties of lots of mineral and rock types which is important to me especially as someone learning geology. With that being said, the recent updates have really downgraded the app. There is only one suggestion for each picture now whereas before there were 3. Please bring the 3 back. It’s so much more helpful. Now, you only get one result and the result is so not helpful. Quartz for everything. Even if I know what the rock is and the rocks has a lot of features- quartz every time. That’s just one example but unfortunately I’m not really getting the enjoyment or content from the app anymore. It’s hard to use and not very insightful. Please bring back 3 suggestions.

Great app
This app is amazingly accurate, and it even gives videos and tutorials on how to identify rocks using different methods. I have wanted to learn more about geology, and this is definitely a great start. It has almost no purchases except for premium, and it is a great experience for learning about rocks. It also shows zodiac and healing stones, tells you how hard your rock is, gives you a description, tells you how to identify your rock, has a self learning feature, and more! I love this app. It gives you a collection to keep tabs on your rock, and a history feature. It also tells you how common or how uncommon it is. I definitely recommend this app to anyone you wants to learn

Useful app!
I collect crystals, but sometimes I forget what they were. This is the best crystal app I’ve encountered after searching for one for a while, I definitely recommend to anyone with any interest in crystals! SO MUCH INFO!! About crystal/stone/gem in the app. All the information is ACCURATE! is anyone interested in crystal healing? I know its a pseudoscientific alternative-medicine practice, but I mean its really fun. I love that it shares with me not only healing properties crystals but history and the geographical backgrounds! Only 1 thing this app is lacking. I really wish that I could share the crystals I identified or create my own additions to the community where there would be plenty of happy people out there!

Using it as an inventory only
I was really excited to finally have an app to keep track of my collection. Have hundreds of crystals and stones and nothing is organized! The app is great for my situation - knowing the identity, just need an inventory system - but the accuracy is way, way off for use as identification. Also, please please please allow manual input of the name instead of being forced to choose one that is incorrect. I have some obscure pieces and if the app doesn’t recognize it there is no way of altering it or putting it in myself. Also, it would be awesome to allow the search feature to search everything, not just the name and where it came from. It serves its purpose (for me) but it’s really pricey for having so few features and not being accurate on most of the IDs.

Must Have App For Geode and Crystal Identification
This is a fantastic free and paid app! I now have the premium version and it is so easy to use- you literally take a picture of the geode or crystal in question and the app immediately begins to identify it. Even better, it doesn’t give you the same handful of results and doesn’t read everything as quartz, which is a nod to its intelligence, in my opinion. It has been incredibly accurate and has a lot of knowledge, which it freely shares. Pics upload clearly, which is always appreciated (the apps camera is better than my iphone cam…). Try it out, you have literally nothing to lose!

WHY FIX SOMETHING THAT’S NOT BROKE !!!?
When I first got the yearly subscription, it was great. It gave you two or three crystals to choose from and most likely it was usually the first or second, but whatever update happened is terrible. It only give you one option and then you have to keep clicking and clicking so I’ve just been going and getting my information there, I wish was back. It was it like this I’m thinking about canceling and not renewing the first six months. This was an amazing app. Why fix something that’s not broke.! This seems to be getting worse and worse daily. I will snap a photo of some thing I know is for instance pink zebra Jasper and it comes up saying it’s black moonstone. Or a howlite will say it’s rose quartz. I am so not happy with the changes. A year and a half ago this was five stars. I might give it a one today.

Almost Superb!
WIP. Could use more database, sort & search features; photo editing after the fact; and ability to export and create specimen labels. But identifying minerals is very easy & fairly accurate. I’d say near perfect accuracy on simple obvious specimens like various forms of quartz, agates, jaspers, gypsums, calcites, micas and common rocks like granites, gneisses & schists. However on fairly obvious minerals accuracy drops to 80-90%. It does gives 3 top choices/guesses & several photos to compare with easy access to standard ID characteristics for further refining/reference. I’d say 80+% of time right answer is 1 of the 3 choices given. But 10+% of my specimens come up very wrong & even though it offers a way to correct it & enter your own ID, if it isn’t in it’s database it rejects your correction! So bottom line, it’s great tool for beginners to ID & learn more about common rocks & minerals. It’s a handy quick start to whittle down choices for more advanced collectors. But a serious mineral collector will find current version of this app a bit limited in both Identification and collection mgmt. Having said that, it’s still best app I’ve found by far!

Helpful
Helpful for the identification of rocks and minerals. This is my second year using it as an avid rockhound. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t impressed at first. However, the identification has greatly improved, and 9/10 times it chooses the correct identification. I would still invest in a kit that includes a steel blade, a piece of glass, a black and white streak plate, and some Hydrochloric acid drops to aid you in identification. I really like that I can catalog my collection. It would be nice if the subsequent years the subscription was cheaper than the first (just to renew). I would also like to see a delete all feature, as well as add information to aid with identification like hardness, reactivity to acid…That would make it perfect. Overall, very good app.

Nearly perfect
I use this app to confirm stones I already possess and know what they are and also to verify stones, say, when I was overseas and sellers attempted to pass off aventurine as emerald - I knew the stones were aventurine, scanned and app confirmed. It even reminded me of the name of a stone, maw sit sit, that I had forgotten the name of. I say “nearly perfect” because light, angle, among many other factors play a role in the accuracy of the app. One star off as I’ve had to run multiple checks on some which I know are “genuine”. Overall, I love this app and use it on a regular basis. Highly recommend & I have recommended it to others including my sister who has a doctorate in geology. I rarely write reviews, this is well worth it. Thank you.

Recognizes stones, fossils, and petrified wood!
I moved to Costa Rica few years ago, and I have found that there are beautiful stones everywhere. In the afternoons when I walk our property, I am constantly picking up different rocks from our “gravel” (even Amazonite!) This app has recognized every stone, several coral fossils and petrified wood that I found. I have yet to find anything that this app can’t identify. It is one of only 2 apps that I am willing to pay a subscription for (the other one is news.) If you’re a middle-aged woman like me, who has inexplicably started obsessing over rocks, this is an amazing resource for you!

The desire for more detail
First I must preface this by saying how grateful I am for an app such as this. As a lifelong rockhound this app has taught me to recognize the rocks that I collect. That being said there are some features that are lacking. Firstly, when each side of a stone is different than I want to know is each side composed of different minerals making it separate or combined does that make it something else. Can it tell me if a rock is a green jasper and a fossil? How old is my rock and even if it’s colored like a green jasper, could it also be obsidian? Can I trust the app when it says that my rock is a gneiss but it’s actually a stromatolite? I wish for as much detail as possible to further educate myself.

Awesome program
I find the Rock Identifier accurate and worth every penny paid to access. It’s helped me organize over 600 crystals with only a handful of incorrect responses which were the result of poor specimen quality. I thoroughly enjoy reading the facts presented on each stone and the ability to ask questions. It is helpful that the program gives second and third response options as that information lets me know what other options were considered by the system. There is one thing I wish would be more consistent and that is incorporating the “street” names of the crystals. I’ll be a user indefinitely if Rock Identifier do continues to exceed my expectations.

This company lies
When you go to sign up, you are given two options for an account. The first option you are charged monthly. The second option you are charged once a year. I selected the first option, to be charged monthly, but this company made the decision for me to sign me up for the yearly plan Then they make it impossible for you to contact them. No company on the face of this earth should be allowed to lie to customers to gain their business, and then when the customer has figured out that they’ve lied, this company, then makes it impossible for the customer to get it corrected Companies like this one should not only be illegal in this country, but they should be held accountable for all of the people that they lied to stole money from. Do not use this product, because this company is known to steal and lie.

Almost perfect!
I was so excited to see this app. I’ve been collecting rocks since I was a little kid. My Dad knew most of them, but there weren’t many helpful books on rocks back then. When I married, I discovered that not only was he a rock hound, he had a vast knowledge of the geographical composition of Eastern Oregon. We hunted there for many years and brought home a ton of rocks every trip. So now I have a ton of rocks to identify. My only problem is that I can’t print them out. My memory is slipping, so I have to go back and reshoot the rock. Do an old lady a favor and let her print them out. 🥰

Nice App but Basic
Before I had this app I had not identified most of my rocks. It doesn’t help database experts to ask me if I got the right Id. I don’t know, which is why I chose the app. I know it can’t be perfect, but I feel like it’s usually a good answer. It seemed to have worked better on my polished stones since it will only give me one ID. The buildup of extra layers of ‘stuff’ hindered the good components to be Id’ed. It would be nice to know the total composition but that is likely impossible on a phone app. But I did hear these phones are mighty powerful! A printed list would be sweet like print #1 through # 20. Thank you for your hard work. Its a good app for sure!

I love this app so so much
I love this app so much. I didn’t think it would work but it does. I love that you can still use it without having to buy the subscription. Sometimes it won’t give you the correct scan but I always double check by looking them up on Google to make sure. 90% of the time it gets it right. It also gives a whole bunch of different info like where it naturally occurs or the composition or metaphysical uses for them. This app is one of the best apps on the market for minerals and crystal identification. If I could I would give it 6 stars

Great app
I tested it on basic rocks and it identifies them extremely well. Obviously for more rare specimens you should have a professional look at them. If you’re unsure of what the picture gave you, if you describe in great detail the chat guide has a good answer commonly. I had lost faith in the app but then later on it started working much better and after I verified with other sources, quite a good app. Even more so because it isn’t one of those apps that is unusable without premium, heck I don’t even think there’s adds! Developers definitely did an amazing job.

Basalt rock found underground 25 years ago
I am elated to find out what I have. When we were having our basement excavated for our new home, a round ball of dirt was discovered. The excavation was about twenty feet at the deepest point. The area we chose for our new home had not been cleared since the virgin forests were cleared a hundred years ago. I cleaned off the mud and discovered the mysterious rock. I have kept it all these years. I had a few guesses, but I didn’t believe their conclusions. This afternoon, when I used the Rock Identifier Program, I was excited to get such a quick answer. Thank you so much. The mystery is finally solved.

Great app. Just let me buy it without a subscription please.
I really like the app. But honestly. This subscription thing is going to cost you a ton of sales. I’d have been willing to pay 10 or 15 dollars for a high quality app. You are asking for almost as much as an office subscription for this app. Please stop. No one wants 15 app subscription charges per month on their statement and unfortunately I won’t be buying this until I can actually buy it instead of renting it. Keep up the good work on the identification side though the core of the app is fantastic. But I can’t rate this higher without the disclaimer that subscription based apps are what’s wrong with the App Store today.

Informative and fun
I've always loved collecting rocks that I find in creeks and different lakes since a child so a friend had sent me a link to this app knowing how much I enjoy finding rocks, different sizes and types and colors and I just love this app because it helps me find out more about them and learn more and I appreciate every one of the rocks. They look cute and a little shadowbox. I'm going to do that with my knees and her child when they come visit and I love this app it's awesome anybody that likes finding rocks it's just super and well worth the price so thank you great app!!

Great for scout leaders
At first I was disappointed that it didn’t show the rock type but it was user error lol once I got more familiar with the app I finally noticed what was right in front of my stupid face LOL It really is a great app; very accurate as far as my limited knowledge can tell. Just take a good picture and it will give you the right answer. However, as a scout leader I would only be using this app maybe once a year while we do our Earth Rocks lesson so I personally can’t justify the price of $30. But if you’re a rockhound I would recommend this app.

Old gift from son Identified!!!
I’ve always had this completely unique and beautiful stone that my son gave me as a gift many years ago… it just sits on my dresser. Every so often I’d try to find something out about it, books, websites… everything offered, and I never saw anything even remotely resembling this rock. Then this app came along and identified it in 10 seconds! Not just the name but a lot of really interesting information… details and history about it. I want more rocks now just because this app is so awesome! I’m so so so happy about this app.

Fun and loaded with info.
I enjoy learning about the different types of stones and their history, value, metaphysical attributes typical uses and varieties. I don’t have a hope of remembering all the available info on all of my collection so I also appreciate the digital collection from this app that I can easily reference. Worth mentioning, this app is impressively accurate, most of my identification difficulties have been directly related to photo quality, otherwise most stones identified on first try with photos to help verify. I think it’s worth it

Good idea/intentions—needs lots of work.
I used the app at first trying to determine the type of stone I had as I had forgotten the name of it. I was 90% certain it was a variation of moonstone, but needed an opinion. Well, it identified the unknown stone, the white moonstone, and my peach moonstone as Carnelian Agate. 🤦🏻‍♀️ None of the stones were anywhere near as blood red–pink as Carnelian Agate is. I’m going to take photos of all of my stones that I am certain of their type and submit them to the app to further this app’s usefulness, accuracy and ability to identify other user’s stones. Until then, I’ll continue to rely on more experienced, trustworthy, educated sources. Definitely don’t trust the app’s answer blindly. You could be holding an amethyst and the app will tell you it’s Onyx.
