Keep App with Notifications or Delete to Regain Needed Storage?
I’ll have to admit, I was at the end of the first week and didn’t know whether I should delete this small app and regain the much needed storage, and get rid of the barrage of notifications (very short articles/along with a few tasteful, targeted ads) or just grin and bare it! The bare-it theme was easily compromised by unchecking some of the default list personal interests, which then tailors the notifications to only those stories you want to read about, and the hours of waking daylight you want to devote to reading (or ignore). I found my balance and now, some 12-14 weeks later, I found this app to be one of my strong suits! The stories contain about the best amount of detail to inform (primarily tidbits rather than an expose) to make them interesting! I find that I typically miss 25-30% of articles, so I unwittingly read the previous, and the one before that, and so it goes for the next hour. I will also admit to clicking on the very limited and always in the same placement of the article, since I genuinely have a desire to select that particular sales ad I might need. It’s not cumbersome on the page and they are , to date, 100% behavior correct, so I don’t mind. If you have a passion for aviation, then download the free app, and get started reading! It’s fun stuff.
it’s a great app for reading aviation news but it has way too many ads (like pop ups which can be closed and just ads in the reading itself) and the app crashes after reading 2 stories that you have to force close the app and reopen it but other than that it’s good: update: recently updated with new version and it still crashes and has many bugs, USE THE WEBSITE INSTEAD
I love the look, the breadth and depth of stories, variety of subjects (Boeing p, Airbus, industry info), and I don’t seem to have the technical glitches that some have, except an annoying ad pop-up. But the professional level of journalism needs work. It just sound so amateurish sometimes. And I find factual errors all the time, i.e., “some say the FAA will only allow pilots to have one type rating at a time”, or opinion pieces that are absurd, i.e., “Can an Airbus pilot fly a Boeing?” I hold 5 type ratings, both for Boeing and Airbus, and, though I’m not CURRENT on all these aircraft, I still possess the type ratings. Two minutes verifying this info on Google would have shown some journalistic integrity.
I have been a long time reader of simple flying for years it’s still one of the best platforms for aviation news. That being said it seems since the site was acquired in the fall of 2021 the new direction has given us an app which does not meet the standards we are used to. The old app allowed us to pay for an ad free experience and actually allowed us to save favorite articles and was designed for the reader. Then we were told we are building a new app for you and the app was broken for months. We were then provided this current app which feels like it is just a wrapper containing the site and not a experience anymore. It feels like the app we were promised was from the old leadership and new leadership had decided to just get the app back running and that’s good enough rather then provide us an app which we could actually use day in and day out. My question is will we ever see the day when the app is back to its former glory and returned to the reader the experience we are used to. Will this app ever be updated as it feels abandoned nearly 6 months later.
This app is actually good for aviation enthusiasts. It has up-to-date, reliable information on the pages. It is my first source of any news that I want to research and has facts, not fake news. This app is free, so why not download it? I only have one bug report. The “Rate this app” button does not work, just what I am doing right now. Otherwise, I love it!
The app is exceptional, as is the website. Aviation news is very current, quickly reported, and UI is intuitive. Unfortunately the issues that have prevented the news within the app from being updated have persisted for nearly 4 months at this point. Waiting for an update before this would be 5 stars again, since news is still very old on the app at the moment unless you go directly to the website.
This app is always up to date,i have seen it post up to 10 stories in one day! There are things I would have needed to dig the Internet for, but is one click away on this app. The ads on this app are not video ads and don’t pop up, they aren’t really an issue. I love this app. If you are reading this, I would download this app!(it’s that good)
Whenever I open the app, it says “403 not found” and makes me redirect to the website in app. I am fine with being redirected there, however it can be quite annoying. If it could be fixed, that would be great.
I love this app, but recently I have had a problem. I will reload the page, and it will briefly show the other articles that are recent, then go back to yesterdays and the day before’s articles. If there is someone that can help me, please tell me! Thank you!
Simple Flying first off is a great app to use to get aviation related news. They published multiple articles daily. One problem that I find annoying is that the articles won’t load. Once I open a story, and close out it to read another one, the list of articles to read disappears. I have to close and reopen the app to fix the problem.
The app is always up to date with the news on the website. But I personally prefer to use the website because the overall loading speed is the same but I like how the website looks. The app looks too simple.
Every time I enter the app it says 404 Eror. I don’t know that this is even though that it does look nice and hopefully they can get around to did the app
I like the app but my eye’s hurt every time I load the app could it be possible to put dark mode in. Also the newsletter is hard to activate in the app but I used a computer any way to do that. Thanks
This is a great source for airline information. As an airline employee, I really appreciate the unbiased and very informative resource for daily happenings in the airline world.
It’s a very helpful and interesting app to use if you’re an AvGeek and if you just like aviation it’s also great, 10/10 would definitely recommend to anyone
Photos on the articles have terrible resolution, and when you click on them they show up really small on the screen. Please fix. Otherwise, this is a great app.
Wow went from once upon a time great av geek website to just-another-news trash site. App just loads the web page with barely any formatting. And now if you don’t make an account you can’t even view articles…. Just go to the website or better yet ANY other av news site.
I was only ever to get the app open one time. Every other time I attempted to open the app, it would crash. 2 stars because the one time it did open, the app looked great and had good articles.
Why does it stay stuck on old articles? When I pull down to readership, it shows new articles for a fraction of a second and then it reverts back to showing the old ones
