I’ve been enjoying this app for a year or so, but changes were made in the last update that are unacceptable. First, the Search function was removed, and secondly, my favorite show is gone. Even when I select the correct on-demand channel, it is not in the list. The list only has about four featured shows instead of all the shows. PLEASE restore these features as they previously were. Thanks!
I actually miss having local news and channels, really the only thing I miss about having cable, but very disappointed I cannot cast this app to my tv and have to watch it from my phone (since I tend to be using my phone for other things whilst watching tv). Nonetheless I’ll be using this app everyday in the morning to catch up on weather and news and I’m very happy it’s free! The trending videos/important clips is a nice feature also. The layout is very clean and easy to navigate, haven’t had any buffering issues yet (whereas on my local news app it wouldn’t connect after commercials many times unless I restarted app). Please make this Chromecast compatible!
After choosing my city, I decided to experiment to see how the app worked. I typed in the title of a show that was showing on one of the local channels to see if I could bring it up on my phone. Although it was showing at that very minute and a local channel was listed in the selection menu, the search engine gave me "no results". Totally ridiculous. Also, why would anybody make a Phone app without a BACK button? The only way to go back to a previous page is close the app. Also, the channels should be listed by channel number instead of being assigned some kind of ridiculous name so you can't tell what channel you are actually on.
This was an entertaining app through v1.1.3 but the developers removed compatibility with Apple’s Lightning -> HDMI adapter in v1.1.11. Bad enough that they deleted this very useful functionality but they kept it a secret. I routinely (or at least I used to) watch STIRR TV output on my large display through a Lightning -> HDMI adapter and if the developers had been honest and announced they’d removed this capability I’d have happily stayed at v1.1.3. Instead they didn’t let us know and now the app is effectively useless as far as I’m concerned. By the way, I’m using an official Apple adapter and not some unknown third party device so this not due to flaky hardware. If you want to continue outputting your STIRR TV via HDMI do not install v1.1.11.
I watch STIRR from my iPhone 14 pro or Xs Max and every thirty minutes ( on the hour and half hour) it was close out of the application. It has been doing since iOS updates. I have deleted the application and reinstalled it and it doesn’t help it. It’s does this on every channel. But I can watch it on my fire tablet and it will not shut down Please advise Thank you
Hate to complain about any free app & my intent is to be constructive. Stirr was maybe my fav TV app. But it has changed for the worse. Most of my fav channels are gone and few of those remaining are worth watching to me. Worse, the last time I tried to open it, all I got was a yellow screen saying Stirr and no possible way to go to anything else within the app. (I have top notch wifi too). And when it did open previously to that, I couldn’t find any guide any longer. On yeah, also, the cast icon does not work AT ALL- nothing happens
Needs work to make it easier to use for voiceover screen reader users on iOS
It is very difficult for me to know what channel I am on. Only the name of the shows are read, no channel number or name. It also scrolls me randomly to different places. I rely on voiceover to use my iPod touch and this app needs some major accessibility improvements for voiceover users. Also, please add the heros and icons channel to stirr tv and my local fox wpmt channel, WITF, and whtm tv news channels.
While I like the content on Stirr, the user interface for the Apple TV app is wonky. Scrolling through the channel guide is slow and tedious. There are gaps that you have to wait to fill before you can continue scrolling! If you are watching a certain channel and hit the Menu button on your remote, it takes you back to the top of the channel guide, so you have to scroll again to find the channel you were previously watching, which is ridiculous! Hence the 2 star rating for this app!
Stirr incompatibility on Apple TV (oct - 2020)(oct-2021)
I removed this from all my Apple products. It no longer works on Apple TV. In my opinion it needs removed from the Apple App Store until it is compatible with all Apple products it claims to be compatible with. It should require no special connections. I’d rather pay for something that actually works than waste my time on “free” stuff that doesn’t work as described or expected. Updated 10-21 still doesn’t work properly and again removed from all my Apple products.
I really hoped that STIRR would be an answer to watching programs I wanted to see. However, it just doesn’t work. Sure, there are plenty of channels. But with timeouts, shutting down completely, mixing audio of one show with that of another, audio not syncing with video, hang-ups on streaming it takes away the enjoyment and possible uses of this app. Yes, it is free, I am willing to have commercials, it is the technical problems that is ruining the experience.
Just started within the past week or so, Trying to get to the channel guide and now all I get is a full screen ad and the ad freezes and hangs everything up. Can’t get past it to get to any channels. Getting ready to delete this app and reinstall Pluto! I get the need for ads but at least be sure the ads work before you put them out there!
I’ve lost access to my local news channel with the newest updates. I assume, to gain access to my local news, I need to “sign up” as a user because an option is available to “sign in”. At least that was my next action to locate the broadcast. Only problem is there is no option to sign up, only a login option. I’m ready to delete this app on all my devices and find another source for my local news. Thanks STIRR for such a colossal mess.

Great when it works. Has problems syncing with the stream resulting in delays up to a minute. Has issues it audio and video streams mixing and frequent hangs when switching out of the app. Lots of programming but limited selection of episodes.
I downloaded STIRR because I can’t get Comet TV in my area. I like to watch Comet TV because a lot of my favorite programs on that station. However on Roku I find the actual Comet TV app to be superior to STIRR. STIRR has to much advertising, and stirr TV app buffers a lot even on a good internet connection. So definitely have a few bugs to work on.
Only place to watch classics from the 80’s (Magnum PI, Knight Rider, Chips, Hunter) but the commercials (cheesy) cut in right in the middle of programming instead of at the correct times a show would typically phase out to a commercial. Miss over a minute of the show then have to sit through the ‘Stirr’ moment of ‘we’ll be right back’. Would be great if the network could bring in Love Boat, Simon and Simon, A-Team, Duke of Hazard etc but for heavens sake.. fix the commercials!
It’s not got a great selection of channels!! A lot of the channels can be seen on Pluto & comet & charge are on our antenna channels we pick up!! Did try watching charge but it only kept saying, action back soon and would not play!! Comet has been a good channel until they changed the mon-fri evening/night lineup to blocks of shows only a select few like!! Andromeda, sg 1, the newer outer limits & another Trek wannabe show & those are show must horror fans are not into!!
Is it perfect no, but it’s free. It’s the same as cable, many channels and not much to choose from. Once in a while I will find something to watch. I hate when it says we will be right back and there is nothing on the screen.
The only reason I downloaded this app was because it streamed current Jeopardy! episodes that I missed due to work. Then I began to notice that they weren’t showing current episodes even though they were dated with the previous 3 dates. Now, they only show the Daytime Jeopardy! episodes from last season. Not fair. Why not show the previous day’s new episode like other streaming channels?
The programming seems good. However, after a series of commercials, it doesn’t go back to the program. Instead, it goes to a screen showing a woman eating popcorn. So I end up missing the rest of the show. Otherwise, I have to X out of the show and then select it again. Frustrating
It has a lot of great shows and movies but the only one thing I didn’t like is that there is no search bar. It would be nice if one can search for a show or movie without having to go line for line looking for a show. That’s why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5
The reason I gave only 2 stars is because there is way to many commercials yes I know that the commercials pay for this app but it feels more like cable tv even satellite tv is like that I can see maybe a few commercials but 11 of them is just taking it a little to far
This app had me excited that I could watch local news. That lasted about 2 seconds. Sometimes it would work. Sometimes I would have to delete the app and reinstall just to get it to work. Now, when I try to use the app it’s only paid programming and when I try to use the guide, it crashes. So aggravating. It was great when it would work.
I enjoyed Stirr at first, watching old episodes of Whose Line is it Anyway. But then one day....it just stopped working. Just wouldn’t start the video. This was on the FireTV app, but it happened on the IOS app as well. Just a spinning circle. I can get video in IOS Chrome (but not Safari), but just a single channel - the guide overlay doesn’t display correctly, so you’re stuck watching whatever is on the first channel. Stirr needs a lot of work.
When I scroll through menu on my Apple TV Gen 5, the Stirr App crashes. Difficult to make use of features when App execution is most unreliable. Also, tried to get my local WJLA channel live feed. Well, it isn't the same as the broadcast WJLA. I get local news and then some sort of game show rather than ABC national news. I find the Stirr App mostly useless.
I’ve watched this app on my phone and my Roku for a long time but since a few days ago, there is only like 3 channels playing on live TV. Before, it would supposedly focus on the area where someone lived. Now, it’s gone. That is not available nor showing in any of the options. If that’s taken away that’s too bad. It was a good app while it lasted.
I don’t mind commercials, but the app is in dire need of a timer for the “we’ll be right back” portions. The infomercials are usually butted up together and last 30~60 minutes all the while the app just leaves you hanging.
Nice app for local news on the go. I would make it easier to watch newscasts in other locales. The only way I could do that was to change the host city in settings. I might enjoy watching the news in other Sinclair markets where I have interests.
Wish it were easier to use on the Apple TV. You guys should make it so that you can swipe up and down to change channels instead of having to go back to the Channel Guide. You guys should also add more cities. I live in LA but its not on there. It also freezes at times when going back to the channel guide to choose another channel.
Been using Stirr for quite a while. Since the last two updates I’ve been unable to get my local news(primary reason I got the app) and now…whoa! Multiple stations playing at the same time and I can’t even get to my local station! You f’ed up a good app. Should be a zero but 1 is the worst I can give it! Bye-bye
Need to add the search back! Also need the favorite a option Your competitors have both. Nice Channel line up. Will give it 5 stars after you add those two.
This is about the worst app that I have experienced. There is always an error message that keeps the app from loading. It times out all the time and is always buffering. I use it mainly to watch my local news but I find myself having to pull the news app up on my phone anyway..smh
I have used this app to get local news channel and the only way I receive local news but now only shows the same ads repetitively over and over with a second of a view into the channels. I don’t have access to news otherwise
Hard app to navigate thru/ and back out of a program,Pluto is much easier to use but this does have movies and shows available for us cord cutters to watch it would be a 8 if navigation was easy
As mentioned in another review, I was surprised that there is no obvious method of finding, searching for a particular program. In particular I was looking for Sharon Atkinson’s Full Measure. Really disappointing.
When streaming to your TV via the lightening connector on an iPhone doesn’t keep streaming just locks up over and over and you have to restart way to often. Wish this would get fixed after all this time. Tried the STIRR ap awhile ago and had the same problem.
Nice idea but needs a lot more developer time and touch maintenance. It freezes a lot, and behaves differently to inputs during programming vs commercials. I can’t count the number of times I have had to uninstall and reinstall.
When I try to open the app, all I get is a yellow screen with the logo. Nothing else. Tried re-booting phone, no difference. Touching or holding screen does nothing. No functionality at all. I thought this app was supposed to be iPhone compatible. Going to delete it as it is useless to me.
The app freezes all the time. I have to either change the channel or close down the app. To use it on my Apple TV I have to restart the whole device to get it to boot. I really wish Charge would make its own app where I don’t have to use Stirr.
VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! I just saw a commercial for Stirr which stated "local news". Well, the "local news" it had for my area was only "snippets" of our news, (about 4) AND they were at least 1 week old........Useless!!!!! I wish ai could give a 1/4 star instead of a while star, OR, Actually a MINUS STAR. Piece of Crap in my opinion!!
This app is very glitchy. I downloaded it to watch local news and most days it freezes up or doesn’t stream properly. This happens on both my Apple TV and fire stick.. what is the point of an app that won’t stream properly?
The only reason why I have this app is because I can’t watch my local news on my tv any other way. Always a problem. Always glitchy, freezing, and buffering. The same commercials play constantly.
Downloaded this app and you will constantly be angry. App is Garbage. Constantly freezing. Have to close it out and restart it. It seems to only do it when you’re right in the middle of watching something you enjoy. Ive had it for quite awhile now. ...and ive finally had enough. DELETED!
