WCAX Channel 3 News: VT-NY-NH

The app is a good one. Especially on the Apple TV. Great choice to either stick with local VT news all day (repeated broadcasts until the next scheduled broadcast) or watch national local news from various other states. However, the ads they run between segments have been the same for almost a year. It’s exceedingly frustrating to watch any more because of that. The worst part is that, like on broadcast tv, the newer ads start running but then are overridden by the same old ones. While it shouldn’t matter what ads are running, it takes away from the viewing experience. PLEASE let the same ads that run on your broadcast channel run on you app platform! We are very close to removing the app from our Apple TV and just relying on national news apps instead. They’ve figured out how to change things up!

I’m not a fan of the ads. Especially the full page ad you have to wait for in the beginning. I realize you need the ad revenue but there are too many now. Also, the main reason for my review is the constant crashing. On both my iPhone 6 and my iPad2 mini. I’m beginning to just expect it. I browse through all the headlines first to see if it’ll be worth going back when (not if) it crashes. It Used to be my go to app for local news. Hopefully it gets fixed.

This app is very frustrating to use, if you accidentally open one of the many “ads” below the actual news stories it’s nearly impossible to go back to the page where the articles are without having to get out if the app and then going back into it and sometimes that doesn’t always work! Also why did you change the Weather format? What was wrong with the old one, I was used to it and I liked the way it worked. The one that replaced it is an app that I’ve already downloaded from WCAX because I like to have the option of using either one or both

Have lived in Vermont for many years and enjoyed this app for many as well. Went to check the “Local News” this morning, as I often do, but it is seemingly no longer there. The only reason I have this app is because it has local, Vermont news. Take that away and it’s just like every other news app. Please bring back the “Local News” option on the left sidebar under “News”. I will say the local weather is the other main draw. (Just found out the weather has been stripped down as well!) I will revise my rating if this is restored.

I appreciate many things about WCAX, but scrolling down for news stories is risky due to the number of and formatting of clickbait stories. I understand that advertising is necessary but couldn’t you give some indication about which stories are true news items? Thanks

Used to be half way decent, but all gone out the window now. Takes forever to open now, it also now shuts down any audio streaming I may have on, it never used to do that, the normal weather on the main screen now just goes to their weather app. And more times now than ever before the stories you click on to read do not open when asked to it takes repeated attempts now to get a story to open. In short I done with WCAX period. Much better station before grey tv took over

I did the update on my ipad today and now the app won’t even open. Very disappointing. So much for bug fixes. Did anyone even test this “fix” before putting it out there? Thank you for the speedy fix!

I don’t use the WCAX app much, usually just to re-watch a story or see one I missed. Downloaded this version last week. Takes sooooo long to open (to a full page add), looked through “news” for a story from yesterday, didn’t see it. Looked through “local news”, still wasn’t on the list. Meanwhile the app crashed, and had to restart which took at least 30 seconds to load. When I searched by keyword, I found the story I was looking for. Not impressed. iPhone X 11.2.6 on WIFI

The ads are offensive, disturbing and quite frankly make me question the judgement of WCAX as a whole. This and the overall performance of the app caused me to uninstall it. And to think Darren Patton’s good name was within 100 feet of this monstrosity if a news delivery platform. Go home whatever undergrad they hired to build an iPhone optimized app, you’re drunk. I literally deserve to be paid for the advertisement gauntlet of emotional trauma that is this app. Please stay away. I’m willing to update my review, I am not bias. Please reach out

It would be wonderful if you would routinely update your app cover photo along with the seasons. Every season and not just twice a year, which always occurs far later than the season’s onset. No one wants to look at snow and ice in June. Vermont is beautiful — there is no reason not to showcase each season.

Very slow loading from previous version. Also immediately try’s to load weather even tho I didn’t select it ???

Get rid of some of the Democrats and watch how fast Vermont turns around. We need more people to vote them out of office because they’re not looking out for us. They’re looking out for themselves. I’ve been here all my life and Vermont has never ever been this bad until the Democrats took over. It’s been a blue state and it’s now time to turn it to a red state and get Vermont back to the way it was. That is the solution.

Very nice app, love that the streaming live news is back, thankyou!! Loads much faster than the old app, easier to get around, and a much nicer weather section. Who knows....might not need the WCAX standalone weather app any more, we'll see. Great work guys, a winner for me.

Stopped using this app a while ago after complaining to the station that it was serving malware and didn’t seem to improve. Also their use of outbrain in a news app is literally serving us clickbait false news to make the station a few bucks, embedded in with real news stories. Really takes advantage of folks who aren’t as tech literate. Don’t bother downloading.

Used to be a wonderful app with local and national news. Recently was upgraded so it's just a bunch of ads. There is no reason to download or waste time with this app. Deleting it and moving on to a news app which respects its users. I would give negative stars but they are not available.

If you’re going to require we look at the adds before even getting to your sight, please at least enable readers to click out of add. Most of the time I cannot get out of the add to read the news stories. Seems this defeats the purpose. A bit confused and annoyed…

Search engine news items that have been in the news does not work very well. When you do a search on an item sometime the screen stays blank. Why won’t it give you an error message?

Fast loading on an iPad but to wait 20? Secs for some unrelated ad to play, I have never streamed anything. There use to be a section for comments. It is needed. For example: a stolen green motorcycle was stolen. No information if it had a tag, And seen beefing driven away. What direction? Route? What happen to facts?

The frequency of the ads and now the ads blocking what you are trying to read makes the app a great disappointment. I used to use it frequently to catch up on local news. Now I go to other sites. Get rid of the ads! Or at least some you can read the news.

This app does me no good if I can’t see the video. Every story is overwritten in an oversized font that completely blocks the video! We would love to watch channel 3 via HD broadcast as we are only nine miles from the transmitter. However, the signal is abysmally weak and only comes in on extremely fair days (read bluebird skies). Can WCAX work to improve these things?

This app process a great service for getting both local and national news. HOWEVER on an iPhone6+ it crashes after you read 3-4 items (especially if you load the news video). If this were fixed I’d change my rating!

The WCAX News App, along with other Gray-owned news apps, have been crashed and will be fixed just as soon as we can.

After the latest update the app takes forever to load pages, is not smooth when scrolling, and the rate the app option does not work. Until a new update comes out avoid this app.

I downloaded the app to catch up news I may have missed. The numerous click-bait ads are nothing short of annoying.

Just now updated to version 1.1.5. Wish I hadn’t! Crashes as soon as you open it. Deleted and downloaded again,same thing. I should know better. Old version worked fine other than banners. At least I could get the news. Live and learn. Don’t update!!!!

The app won't load! Ever since the last update I cannot open the app. I deleted it and reinstalled it and still it won't open. Bye bye! Deleting it now and won't try again.

This App is clearly full of issues. I do not have the news at home and with stay at home orders I downloaded in order to watch live-streams- yet I can never watch the breaking new. I do not want to watch game shows. Get your links to actually work

The weather results may vary between devices. Same towns tagged, same time of day, phones right next to each other, different predictions per device. Try it. If you can get the app to stay open.

With a lot of contents it is overwhelming to try to find items to review. It can be done but I almost gave up on the app.

Used to love this app to read local news, but now if I try to open the app, it immediately crashes. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, but still immediately crashes🙁😠

Ever since the update and streaming of other channels this app is garbage and needs to be removed from the App Store. We’re in Vermont looking for local news, if I was interested in Louisiana I’d open cnn or the weather channel. Deleted. 🗑

Better off just going to the web browser. Ad take the screen and doesn’t go away. Have to exit the app and restart sometimes. At this point don’t really need the app or the news from WCAX because of the ads.

Instead of getting all information in one spot, you now have to download their weather app to see the weather forecasts. I’ll just download the weather channel then!

Lately the app stops streaming during commercial breaks. I have to keep turning it back on. Also I have to keep deleting and reloading the app to even get it to work.

I love WCAX news and weather. The website is pretty good. The app was tolerable until the opening ad you must now wait through. I’m deleting the app now...not worth it.

I don't know who designed the new app but it is horrible. I am considering just using the website because it is so hard to use. I don't normally write bad reviews and I wish I could say good things but it is just really bad.

The ads are ridiculous. It’s hard to find what I need, especially school closings. And what’s with the closed captioning? I can’t get rid of it, and it completely blocks the video- which I don’t even bother with now. Fix this!

I tried to see the live stream and watched an ad, then the ad ends and the stream stops. Try to restart and get another ad. Never did get to watch the news.

A lot of those full page advertisements are pretty low on the integrity and honesty scale. A little left wing to do the opposite of what you stand for. Very Bernie Sanders of you.

Nearly impossible to view the news because it continues to crash every time I use it. Not up to Channel 3 quality at all!

Every time you open the app you have to close a full screen ad. Running imbedded video crashes the app. Another disappointment from WCAX.

Closed captioning on videos is crazy and unreadable.

The title says it. Every time you load the App the first thing you see is a full page ad. Now, I’m seeing national political advertising. Give me a break.

The entire reason I downloaded was to watch the max advantage forecast and it’s not even on the app. Useless.

Every time I open the app it instantly closes out. I’ve tried to delete and re-download multiple times

I only used tho old app for school closing because it was normally up to date. Disappointed that it’s not even a tab on the new app.
