I was furious when this app came out, because it forced me to listen to an ad before I could listen to the radio. Fortunately, I hadn't deleted the old app yet so I reverted to that. I also wrote to WUSF and canceled my sustainer's gift, because frankly I do not believe public radio should impose advertising on its listeners. When a friend told me that the the feature taking you straight to an ad had been disabled, I downloaded the new app, and I am pretty happy with it. Unlike the other reviewer, I have no trouble with going back and forth between phone calls and the app.
Literally out of the frying pan- few days after the last review and the latest update freezes more than ever; all I want is a stream of the broadcast and frankly I'm probably going to just find an old pocket transistor radio BC the apps are getting worse. The update constantly crashes & freezes up- doesn't smoothly transition from an interruption- call, text, alarm- back to app ... oh & forcing me to listen to the same ad over and again merely ensures I will never avail myself of those products. As a WUSF donor I am beyond disappointed- if I could go back to the prior generation app I would.
I use this app because WSMR isn’t strong enough to get to my radio in St. Pete 😞 Some days it works, other days it gets stuck forever in “buffering” (even when I take it out of memory). The app support link doesn’t work, so I am posting this even though I’d rather contact support. And why does the new update have a kangaroo for the icon instead of the WUSF one?
This new version of the app plays an annoying ad for Seitenbach or 1 other company EVERY time you run the app or if stream is lost. For a non-profit like NPR, this is scandalous. DO NOT WANT. Running the old app instead. While new app has new features, it also buffers slowly compared to the new app. *Edit* App crashed after iOS 11 update and did not work at all to play stream, for 3-4 days even with deleting and downloading app again. Very, very disappointed in local NPR station.
Used to access via TuneIn Radio app, but this is better, with easy access to classical music on WSMR and podcasts. Add when you open is not annoying and easy to skip. I like supporting my local media too!
Great programs. Informative, current, humorous, professional, unique, unbiased. It's where I get my news and entertainment. News is not left, not right, and definitely not fake. Pretty much in the middle. And you get the a story, not a sound byte. Keep up the great work.
It’s quite amazing that this broadcaster who has creative/intellectual resources available from a state university can’t design a better app. Instead it diverts users attention to a splashvert for Arts Axios (main$tream fart museums). This is a confusing GUI pictographic array that often dead ends into a black page. And then needs a restart. Like the station itself...
This app is more stable than the previous version. I use it for hours at a time with no problem. I like the fact that you can hear past stories that you missed with a simple click. Suggestion: I would love to be able to rewind the current show up to 30-45 seconds to catch something that I missed (like a podcast app).
Love love love NPR and WUSF ... app is fine ... no operational problems ... I rarely look at the links to stories; I just press 'play' to listen to live broadcast & while out of town ... I successfully use the app and use it often; the one thing I find annoying is the 10 sec ad for the 'Bay Care Health Care' app or website that I'm forced to listen to EVERY time I launch the WUSF app before I can access the live broadcast. It's not just grating to hear it over and over but Bay Care services aren't even available where I live ... so it's pointless for me. That said, I enjoy NPR/WUSF so much that I put up with the ad.
I'm a lifelong listener of NPR. I started back in high school. Now I teach high school and I listen to Morning Edition and All Things Considered through the app on my breaks at work. These programs keep me caught up on the day's news. I love and support my local NPR station.
I love listening to NPR while working and the WUSF app allows me to do just that. I no longer need to be near a radio to listen because I'm always near my phone. Thanks!
I loved the old app (still have it) and was excited to try the upgrade. Harder to use, the ad is annoying. Nice to be able to see all the schedules and all. Will continue to give it a try, as I said I still have the old one!
