I’ve struggled with alcohol for just about 50 years of my life early and never looked at it as a problem. It’s just part of being social and part of life and then as time went by decades and decades I quit numerous times only to go back again and again and again and again and again. I then just tried to rationalize that this is normal. This is who I am. This is what I like to do. This is what I’m going to do although my subconscious New# this was slowly killing me and I wasn’t the true best version of myself, and I pray to God for guidance and for help, show me the way Lord in Jesus name help me because clearly I have failed to help myself this book this group for once in my life I’ve got hope!
I love this app, and I love that it is free! It has helped me in my spirituality. I am a beginner in AA, I have most of the books already, but I enjoy this app because I can just have my phone or tablet and read from the Big Book when inspired to do so. This app makes it easy to say my daily prayers and to work the steps. I highly recommend this app to anyone looking for the Big Book or any AA material. I have just begun listening to the podcasts from this app as well. There are so many great things included it's amazing!
Simply put, my body was tired and beaten. There was no joy in drinking when the next day brought jitters and physical pain. After a long overnight in the ER, I downloaded this app the next afternoon and read it nightly to maintain sobriety. Even if you aren't sure about giving up alcohol, please take ONE night away from the liquor and download this so you can instead read about s sober future. Read it sooner than later. You will be grateful you did and so will others in your life.
It’s so handy to have the big book on my phone for FREE!!!!!! I can at anytime look up a section or chapter of the 164 pages of text. The appendix is here and the stories from the 1st and 2nd addition as well. I appreciate have the other stories that I don’t find in my big book. It gives me something to identify with and that means HOPE of recovery. This has also allowed me to be of service. Be it a call from a fellow alcoholic at work or a newcomer at a meeting. It gives me more to share thank my own thoughts and understanding of the program. I also love the prayer section. It was so helpful when I was new to the program. I still use it almost everyday. I learned how to pray using this very app. Thank you again for the help in my recovery. You are amazing! Meghan W
I am grateful for this app. I like the quick reference to 12 traditions and 12 steps. The aa birthday is also great since I can count days and hours. I do have two issues. 1. This is not the latest edition so I cannot use it when reading personal stories out of the book. Also the page search just doesn’t work period. It always delivers an error regardless if the page is available or not because it’s an older edition. Fix these and it may be near perfect. :) Still recommend that you download if you want to stay sober. It’s the best of the rest. None seem to be 4th edition.
I’ve had this app for 3years and never had an issue. I do wish the app had a way for you to highlight important reads within the chapters. It makes doing morning meditation and night time inventory easier especially if your on the go and may not be at home every day. I do get some crazy looks when I pull my phone out when doing big book study’s in groups but all in all this is a great app I wish I could give it 4.5 instead.
I really appreciate this app & the folks I get to use it with. I thank the God of my understanding who gave me this disease. He is all powerful & chose this disease for me - wow, thank you HP! It could have been terminal cancer, but in your wisdom, you gave me terminal alcoholism AND a prescription for living (medicine): help others. Simple, effective and not easy. God loves me too much to make is easy & I’m grateful for that & this app, which contains the message of hope, so I have it with me at all times. Bob K
I’m sober 5years 7months 25days! Thank you AA. I don’t just read the big book, I study it. I read and ask myself questions about how I relate to each sentence, just like I was taught, when I was in treatment. So many times, the words in this book, have got the wheels in my head turning in the right direction, that I was able to keep myself from doing something stupid. If you are curious, skeptical, or just plain old in trouble, this read is simple and easy. Some of the information is eye- opening, but it is pertinent despite the books age. The original text is a mere 164 pages, but it packs an entire new way of thinking and living into the package. The remaining stories of individual AA members are poignant. You may find some affinity among them, and a doorway to a new life!
The big book is so crucial to recovery. I can only taink the creators of this app for making it available for free. Of course, there are things that I would like better, like the ability to bookmark pages. But I have found that not been able to bookmark pages means that I pay closer attention to what I’m reading. So I’m trying to find the positive in everything.
Big Book always within reach. No interruptions. Only ad is invitation to purchase audio version for inexpensive price. I wish that invitation would convert to a link to the audiobook after one purchased it, but so far it doesn’t. Pure and simple product overall that I’m sure has been of great assistance to many.
This is a fantastic app for people in recovery with a good online community. Would be great to have the “Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions” as a digital text like the Big Book included in this app in the near future. The only issues I’ve experienced recently is difficultly posting; It buffers sometimes. I recommend this 100%.
There are lots of type-o's. And the stories included are only from the 1st and 2nd editions. Add in the 3rd and 4th edition stories and correct type errors and you'll get 5 stars from me. It would also be nice if when you "share" a page that it would send that page and not the whole book. Or if you could copy/paste the text (which you can't do for some reason).
I love this app. but now the page numbers are all out of sync and I can’t follow along when I’m in my in person meetings like I used too I’ve deleted and reinstalled but it still doesn’t work I’ve had this app for 3years this is the first time this has happened ☹️ Please fix ASAP !!!
I was frustrated because many Recovery Apps have a cost or in-app purchases. While this app doesn’t have as many “bells & whistles”- it does have exactly what I needed: a copy of the big book, personal stories, and prayers. For anyone looking for an accessible way to read recovery on their device- I highly recommend this app.
The single most important thing I need to know about my Higher Power is that I have one and to know and accept that it's not me! Of the many tools that keep me accountable, practice acceptance on a daily/regular basis, and keep me active in my recovery, this app is almost ALWAYS exactly what I need when I need it!
This little App is so handy and appreciated. As an “Old Timer”, speaking solely for myself, I can easily guide / suggest this App to the newcomer who can’t afford a book of they’re own (funny they can afford a phone to download such an App). I work with a large number of folks exiting incarceration. Very helpful.
I absolutely love this app, to the point that I use it multiple times a day. I’ve found very few recovery apps that are free, and most that are free have been glitchy and/or don’t carry that much info. This app is also handy when I forget my B.B. at lit. Mtgs. It has all the prayers, too, which is a huge plus. Thank you for this !!

I am so grateful for this app. It is easy to navigate and has lots of helpful information and good references to the aa literature. I use it several times a day and am never disappointed. I highly recommend for any one new or returning to aa that is seeking a resource to help them grow in experience, strength, and hope.
I hate that when the app. Or screen closes and you reopen it it doesn’t go back to the page you were on but opens back up to the beginning choices. i.e. chapters, personal stories, prayers etc. this is very annoying
Thank you for making this :) I love that it’s free and the other editions are available! I’ve always wanted to read the older stories since I’ve read the latest edition 2 times lol. One thing I do wish it had was a book mark! Because sometimes I lose where I am.
The new page formatting is worse than it used to be. You used to be able to scroll up and down seamlessly through the pages. Now you have to scroll side to side and can’t even see exactly what text is on what page. One single page is split between 3-4 frames. If you guys can change it back, please do.
I prefer using my actual book so I can make notes, but this is very convenient when I want to read something and don’t have my book handy. It would be cool if I had the ability to highlight and make notes within the app.
I just have the free version, I try to carry my big book everywhere with me. Most important thing I have found on the app has been the prayers. Really has been helping me align myself on which side of the street I want to travel. Highly recommend!
AA saved my life! I kept going to meetings until the miracle happened. And have had many since. AA is the water to my soil in which it’s giving me strength and hope to keep being a better person. Thank you!
I have 42 years sobriety and I appreciate how portable this book is by having an app in my phone. I have found myself rereading it so often, and still, after all these years, there are phrases that jump out at me or I have a new understanding of a principle or concept.
I love having the Big Book with me all of the time! If I’m needing a little boost during the day I just go on my phone and read something out of the Big Book- it always helps!!! Thanks for making this a free app for everyone to access!
Looking for Big Book app that is just the book (no feature bloat) that has that beautiful Book with page numbers the same as the print edition, ability to mark with both highlight and/or red underlining, and search. That is it. This app has a problem: when scrolling to the next page, it instead scrolls backward.
The app content, obviously, is great. My only complaint is that if my phone goes to sleep or I click it off and then back on while I’m reading, it doesn’t stay on the page I was on, but automatically defaults to the table of contents. That’s frustrating, but it’s a great read:)
As a person new to AA, I have found this to be so helpful. Not having to haul the Big Book around with me everywhere, but always having it on me is a huge relief if I need to read the book to help me get through something.
I love this app. And use it often. Love that it’s free and easy to use. I just really wish it had a “daily readings” section. For daily meditations, reflections, etc. That would be AMAZING. Or have a option where you can activate push notifications for helpful reminders/motivational notes or quotes.
This is exactly what it says it is. If you would like a copy of the big book for free then this is what you should download. It works smoothly and is set up well. You can even change the font size like a normal ebook.
This app has done wonders for my recovery. Having quick access to the AA text and prayers throughout the day has strengthened my program and kept me from getting caught up in my thinking and self-will.
The idea of an ad in this app consist of a pic you just “x” out of right away. There’s audiobooks if you want to listen at anytime. Virtual meetings from everywhere are always available and more being added. The Speaker tapes are awesome as well. ✊🏼
I have an iPhone 7 Plus so my phone is perfectly capable of handling this app. High speed Internet that runs all the other apps just fine. This BB app loads the “contents” page where you can choose whether you want to read personal stories, chapters, etc. Each one that I click on just loads a blank page and I can’t get anything else. This is my first time trying the app so I am deleting it. What a piece of crap.
I am new to sobriety and outside of meetings i look for a lot of AA related things to keep me busy. This app is a wonderful “playground” for folks like me to chit chat, lend an ear, and share thoughts and prayers. I highly recommend trying it out.
The app does not allow me to sign up. It won’t let me enter my email. It returns to its splash (first) page instead. I can enter my sobriety date but it says, “enter a valid date” when I already have. The text on the sign up page is overwritten on top of itself such that I can’t completely see each line of text clearly. The pages are truncated, too. I hope these can be fixed. It looks like a great app, if only...
I only gave 4 stars because it needs to have bookmarks for specific pages. Maybe an index to go straight to a page not a group of pages would work. Overall this is great app just needs a little fine tuning!
The font is so big you can’t see an entire page of the book despite changing it to the only smaller size. Scrolling is only allowed from side to side, not swiping up. The sobriety calculator wouldn’t work for me. Kept saying put in valid date in past. I will give it a couple months to see if changes are made otherwise it’s unusable to me.
I cant login or creat an account. Horrible thing when I read a post about a younger person feeling ashamed to be in the rooms and I cant post anything, especially when no one else has, yet. But yes, great concepts. Literally can be a life savor.
Like having the Big Book with me using this app. Don’t always carry my hardback copy but always have my phone. Thanks for making it available. Also like the fact it goes right back to where I left off reading.
I am really using this for my prayer and meditation daily, over all it has brought me closer to my God. Not forgetting it has all the tools I need to practice these principals in my daily life. It one of the things I use to achieve a daily reprieve from my alcoholism .
Free and rEadable on my iPhone - unlike the one I paid for which looked like just screen shots. Only 3 stars though because this is SUCH an important text and I’d be shorting myself greatly to just use the B.B. in this format. Very basic, no selecting txt, so no ability to look up definitions, highlight, create references, add notes, etc.
The “big book”, is a foundation of my recovery! I am 26 years sober and read from the “big book”,daily. Thank you for putting this app out there, so people like me can access this anytime the want or need to!!!! Jeff L

Speaker tapes are of low audio quality. Big Book doesn’t save your current reading page after you close the app. Big Book is not 4th Edition. Meeting locator just refers you to numerous websites that have meetings listed. You can get good quality speaker tapes from various podcasts for free.
