I transferred to Affinity Plus while moving across the country far from home and was not sure what I was going to expect when it came to finances or banking that distance from home. My previous local bank from my home town was outdated and undergoing an acquisition from a corporation getting my assets moved with me and as worrisome as I was young a moving away from home for the first time. Ultimately I found Affinity Plus in Mankato Minnesota in their University location and they took care of everything flawlessly, funnily enough that was in 2013 and they haven’t had a slip up in any financial or customer need I’ve had since then. This being written 2023! Woot! Affinity Plus has exceeded my every expectation in regards to prompt, professional and most importantly Passionate Customer Care that even banking out abroad, I can download their app, and have a secure line to have a 1 on 1 video call with a Teller. I’ve have had to do this on the road for work as well as home needs and I’ve been able to resolve something in the seat of my vehicle, face to face with someone knowledgeable to find MULTIPLE solutions to let me choose the best option for me and my family. All without having to go to a physical location. It was like I was at one of their service centers states away!! TL;dr I’m deeply grateful to this Credit Union for taking me in my early 20’s, out on my own, and and seeing me into the future over a decade later!
Absolutely hate the app. I can no longer use budgeting tools that were previously tied to my account, I can no longer log in without my phone with me. Sure there are other ways to be authenticated but the questions aren’t lived on the streets for six years with no reliable address friendly. Every single time I have to be authenticated. Every single time even on the same device I need to do a two step verification. There’s no reason why I shouldn’t be able to opt into and out of that. Many websites allow us to use it and shut it off. If we could turn on and off we could use budgeting tools again, we could use cash advance tools again to help us when we are in a pinch. Instead I have to move where I bank if I want to budget, or need income assistance with a cash advance with little to no interests that the budgeting apps can provide. This app feels like I’m being treated like a child with my own money.
Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union is by far the best financial institution I’ve ever done business with, the staff are very knowledgeable, polite, friendly and give the extra effort to help solve any issue you may have, recently I had some fraudulent charges on my Affinity Plus Visa credit card, they halted all pending charges until we could figure out which charges were fraud, then issued me a new card in less than 24 hours just before the Thanksgiving holiday, and credited back to my new card the fraud charge amounts from the old card, they called me back to make sure everything was Ok and working correctly, I can’t think of any bank or financial business with that level of customer service and support
I was required to download the new version of the app even though I had no problem with the old version. Now my app gives me an error message saying that something has been changed and I cannot access the app. After calling customer service, their only suggestion was to delete it and re-download it. Still hasn’t worked and I’ve updated my phone software as well. I always use the app to deposit checks and now I can’t do that. I’m so extremely frustrated. I love Affinity Plus but this is a setback in those feelings for sure. Update in response to developer: I do not have both versions of the app on my phone. When opened the app says “Application usage is restricted on this device. Something has been altered on your device and it’s interfering with the app...” Another update: When I called customer support right after I was required to download and it didn’t work, I was essentially told that I would need a new phone. Well now I have the newest iPhone and newest software and this app still doesn’t work on my phone. I am extremely frustrated and wish someone would help give me answers.
I have a business account. Every time I go to reconcile my books, I use this app and I run into issues because the check images don’t display. These are checks for which I have done a mobile deposit where I took pictures of the front and back of the checks. Sometimes the images display in the app, most of the time they don’t. This is a huge issue because the only way I am able to tell who checks are made out to is to call affinity and request they email copies of the check images. That is ridiculous, because if they would fix the app, they would avoid a lot of phone calls to their helpdesk. Even worse, I have called multiple people from the Affinity Plus executive team to try and apprise them of the issue. I have left voicemails that I wish to speak to them about this issue and they never returned the call. It is very clear that executive management at Affinity Plus does not care when their services do not work.
I have been through both good well thought out bank apps and horrible bank apps that make you scratch your head (I cannot log in) and this app rocks beyond compare to all other apps. I can transfer funds or I can do whatever I need, such as deposit a check all in less than a blink of an eye. This bank has seen me through the good, the bad and the ugly. I know that the people at Affinity Plus is there for it’s customers through thick and through thin because they quickly refund you on fraudulent transactions, and will tell you what type of transaction it was. Electronic Check; Debit Card, Credit Card, etc…
I love banking with affinity wouldn’t change it for the world, but this app has just never worked out for me. I have a savings account that I started with a cell phone number when I lived in Hawaii, I live in Minnesota now so I currently do not have the phone or the number that I started using the app with. No matter how many times in app I tried changing the number to my new one it never worked, so because the ask me questions log in was available I could just log in that way Tedious but still I could work with it because was convenient to look at my bank info whenever and where ever, this new update however has made it IMPOSSIBLE for me to even use the app, it keeps telling me for some reason my credentials are wrong (they’re not I made the password and have never changed it) and won’t let me log in, won’t let me use forget password option because I don’t use the old number and just all around has been a mess
I have been using Affinity Plus since 2010 so I thought I would like to review about this Bank overall. 1. Amazing customer service. They are really bank for the people who understands the value of every dollar. 2. Now I don’t live in MN but I just couldn’t stop using this bank because they have never fooled me with any extra charges or overdraft. If there is by chance an overdraft they have a system where you can use your points. 3. If you have any issues, you can chat with them or call them. I don’t have to deal with a robot but an actual human being. 4. I love how they are always up to date with their mobile banking. I can upload my checks anytime, anywhere. Low APR. So many benefits and offer if you maintain your credit. 5. When I was in college, they also suggested me how to build my credit strong since I was young and wasn’t very serious about building credit. 6. 9 years later I would like to give Affinity A++. Thank you for your support and suggestions for all these year. I love you guys.
This app used to be solid and reliable. Over the last year or two, worse and worse. Can’t seem to remember my device, so even though this is my primary bank and I sign in a couple times a week, have several accounts.. my phone is never recognized and always has to send a verification text. Which is generally only a minor nuisance, but lately it fails. I get the text within 5 seconds, but the app has already given up and says error, can’t access my accounts. Other times the app crashes, and will never let me re enable Face ID.. have to delete the app, re download and manually disable Face ID in settings.. so ridiculous. Can I send an email to support? Nope, have to call. Inconvenient. This type of crap will literally send me to a different bank if it keeps up. Which is unfortunate, because they are a decent bank
iPad: this app will not work in land-space mode. If you like using your ipad in landscape mode; don’t bother using this app. The app will force you to use it in portrait mode which is absolute nonsense if you have a keyboard tied to your ipad. iPhone: This thing constantly “loses” or “forgets” my password. Using iCloud to retain the keychain does not help; the app will frequently not allow me to log in, even if I type in the correct password. Next, the app will then force me to reset my password and guess what? They clearly capture your previous passwords because they will not let you use what you thought it was earlier. So much for security. Only giving it (2) stars because once you finally get into the app, or adjust your usage of it, it does function, for the most part.
I took a star off, for the app interface, otherwise I love the services, fee-free friendly credit union, ease to use, and reliable costumer services no doubt forever was outstanding. But, the app interface is old, it’s 2024 (current time), i still feel like the app is from 2015, it doesn’t look modern, and that bothers my usage as a costumer. Don’t get me wrong, AFPCU is amazing, but the App is the first downside that forces me to link the bank to a 3rd party to see everything a better way. (Second downside is the Credit Card, the transactions, stays on pending for about a week, but otherwise that’s it). Overall, thank you AFPCU for every service, you are amazing.
I used to love this app, 5/5 stars. But a recent update has made it so the orientation on the iPad is locked vertically instead of being able to be oriented both vertically or horizontally. It’s super annoying that a function that used to work was taken away. It makes doing my banking more difficult since now I cannot use my iPad external keyboard while moving from the banking app to pay bills seamlessly. The app functions, and does what it’s supposed to do. So in terms of functionality, 5/5 stars. But from a user interface/experience perspective, 2.5 after the change imo.
No matter if I’m on the website or the app, when I try to log into my bank account it takes over two minutes for it to load anything. When I wait and attempt to login, it doesn’t let me anyway. Really disappointed and frustrated, because I’m very vigilant about my money and THIS gets in the way. I have had no issues with anything else on my phone loading. Only this app and the online banking hasn’t been working and it’s incredibly frustrating and causes me to worry because I can’t monitor my money ☹️
If it wasn’t so annoying changing banks, I wouldn’t bank here.
This app is so glitchy. For the last few weeks it was about a 50/50 chance I’d be able to log in. Now I can’t log in at all. There are security questions that you have to answer after you’ve logged in to verify your identity (more on that), the app won’t proceed to the security questions and there is an alert that states ‘Try another way? We could not verify your identity with that one, but there is another way.’ There is no other way. The app directs back to answer security questions only to get the same alert. And so the cycle continues and I’m unable to log in to my account. Now the security questions. Every time you log in to the app you have to answer approximately 5 questions in order to verify your identity. Every. Single. Time. Thank you for the additional security, but I’d rather you invest security in your app in a different way than having to answer security questions every time I open the Affinity app, when mostly I’m trying to check my balance. Luckily for Affinity, it’s super inconvenient to switch banks otherwise I would have done so a long time time ago. I have an iPhone 13 and the Affinity App is on the most current update.
Once logged in, the app is great and very user friendly. However, I have multiple accounts (personal, joint, child) and have face recognition set up for all accounts. A few months ago, it stopped working. Even though face recognition is set up, every time I open the app it tells me I need to enter my password to enable face recognition. I do this and it still won’t work the next time I try to login using face recognition. Very frustrating to not be able to quickly access and have to type in passwords for all 3 accounts each time instead of being able to switch between easily using the face recognition. Please update the app to fix this.
I can’t believe how many things are wrong with this app. After being down for almost 2 weeks for me( never opened after major crash) when app finally opened I missed an opportunity to get zero percent loan on a piece of jewelry that I now have a 28 % loan from the store because app would not work in the middle of my purchase. I recently tried to deposit a check but of course that does not work, it also says I have never deposited any checks, which is not true. Today I cannot check my credit card balance, pay on nor can I view my credit score or anything that is happening with my recent purchase, what else can can you make wrong as I now expect the app to never work properly again I am truly surprised that my card works as that is the only thing that does work with affinity.
Excellent customer service, very up to date and customer oriented
Have been using affinity in bemidji mn for several years. They have been excellent never had a bad experience with a teller or on the phone. They have a very up to date app that is routinely updated and very easy to navigate. Have convinced several friends to switch to affinity and they have all enjoyed this bank as well. Auto pay bank transfers getting cashiers checks from other locations and many other things have all been very easy and pleasant experiences.
Went from loving affinity bank and app To hating it! They made everyone switch all passwords etc and you can’t use your old ones, so if you forget your password for example just once you have to use a new one and can never use the one you forgot or had before, it is an absolute nightmare for someone like me that has 5 accounts 2 of which are business accounts that I manage on the mobile app. It cost me so much time to try getting everything back to the way it was before where I use my Face ID and can toggle between each account. Also when I called in to share my frustration nobody could help me or cared, this place used to be 100% About the customers now they’ve got to the size that your just a number now. Extremely disappointing .
Hey, love the company. Not a huge fan of the app. It’s slow to load balances, transactions, depositing check, etc. I see a white screen and the loading animation. I have a new iPhone 14 and my wife has a iPhone 7 and it’s the same slow speed for both of us. We’ve tried WiFi and LTE. She has Verizon I have sprint and same thing. Has always been this slow so it’s not due to a recent change/bug. On a second note, the past few weeks the app constantly crashes for us. Have tried reinstalling, closing out, restarting phone, WiFi, LTE, etc. I’m guessing it’s due to the recent update and will get fixed soon. If you spam open the app you’ll eventually get in.
It’s a strange thing to have to write a review to get people to fix the problem with this app. I’ve submitted feedback directly via the app about this very issue but it’s been MANY months with no fix to the problem. Face ID doesn’t work. To be clear Face ID works in every other app on my phone so it’s obviously an issue with THIS app. I go through the process of adding your user name, password and then enabling Face ID, every time I log in. Then, I add my second membership name, password and enable Face ID and neither profiles are ever remembered. Next time I try to log in, it prompts me to add my user name, password and enable Face ID for each membership. Please fix this annoying bug. I miss having an easy to use and delightful experience.
Cannot log into the app since the update and customer support has no helpful information on what the problem is. I have tried several troubleshooting methods and finally gained access after changing my password on the desktop version, then the app crashed again and again. Redownloaded it and now getting the same message that online banking is unavailable and they’re working on it. Its been like this for more than a month. So frustrating!
Edit: I was able to use the remote deposit feature today, and I couldn’t be happier with this app. Thank you so much! Sincerely, your #1 fan. I’ve tried to use the remote deposit feature multiple times, and it always crashes when I get to the part where I take a photo of the check front. Missing basic functionality for credit card services
I’m likely going to be charged for a late fee and interest because the customer service representative wasn’t able to help me connect my external account with my credit card account to pay off my statement balance like they assured me over the phone. I had switched connected accounts which led to this problem. I’ve never missed a payment before this. I may close my account if this affects my credit score negatively. The bank has two separate systems between the online banking system, and the credit card system, which makes some basic functionality missing, I do not recommend using the services of this credit union for this reason.
The app, of course, is not perfect. You cannot dispute claims or cancel cards, which might be due to limited access through the app. However, those additions would make it the pinnacle of banking apps. Besides that, it is smooth, quick, and speak. With its easy to operate menu and simplistic approach it becomes the ideal app for anyone who needs quick banking online. There are more features that allow customization. There is even a messaging feature. Affinity makes it easy for me to satisfy all of my banking needs wherever I am.
It’s great that there are more functions available with every update. As previously reviewed, this app is greatly improved and functional-another reason to love my credit union that I have been a member of since 1982! I’m still waiting for a more intuitive way to sign out. Touching the More button, scrolling down to the bottom of the next page to find the sign out button every time is pretty clunky! Please fix this-you’re on a roll!
We have had an account for many years with Affinity Plus but in recent years have had to move to two different states. Even though we haven’t lived in Minnesota we have been able to keep our accounts and they have worked with us to keep us as customers. Both our children have had accounts since babies and they have also worked with them to make banking easy for them. Most banks wouldn’t go the extra mile to help or keep you as a customer.
I struggled trying to get this to work on my IPad and gave up. They have gotten the bugs worked out for the IPhone. I love being able to deposit checks from home anytime I want. There are still things I need to do at the bank, but if more people had access or were comfortable doing some of their banking on line maybe the lines at the bank would not be so long 😉. Maybe consider doing a few UTube videos for the less tech savvy?
This app is SO MUCH better than the old one! Life is just a bit easier when you have solid, reliable access to you info while out and about. Login with Touch ID is great! The fact that I can login at all is an upgrade! Can’t wait to see what else is in store! The 5th star is on hold for when I can log in/out of multiple accounts without having to reset or switch my Touch ID! I share some joint accounts and when I log into one I either have to switch my Touch ID to that account, or reset it and activate it on my personal account again.
The affinity plus app has been great to use. It’s been easy to figure out how to use it, that’s not always the case with other apps. I can transfer money easily out of the money market into my checking account or the reverse of that. Also, I love depositing checks online which saves a trip to affinity plus. And bill pay has been a blessing, very easy to use, and saves the price of a stamp, and documentation that I have paid the bill.
For a relatively small FCU, this app rocks. Improvements come frequently. iOS users can use fingerprint authentication to sign in easily (if my fingerprints would stay consistent, but that’s a personal problem), and inside I have easy and intuitive access to my accounts and all features. Mobile deposit is slick and automated. Despite being out of state, with this app I have no reason to bank elsewhere!
The app occasionally forces me to change my security questions. It is a pain to do that. My security questions and the answers to them are completely unique because I added random text to them and saved them in a password manager. Other than that, the app does exactly what I need it to: deposit checks, see my balances, check my transactions, move money between my accounts along with accounts of my family members, and more. I love it and Affinity Plus Credit Union compared to TCF’s app and TCF Bank.
I love the app and affinity bank, but every time I try to transfer money to another members account on the app, it keeps giving me an error. No matter how many times I go through and re type the information, still the same error. I understand it’s a new thing that was implemented into the app and it’s all a work in progress, but it can be frustrating. Especially if it is a dire emergency.
The updates to this app have been so great. It’s gorgeous to look at, easy to navigate, and the Touch ID login is a lifesaver! The one downfall I’ve been experiencing is that it keeps crashing when I try to do a mobile deposit. The crash happens when I try to initiate my camera to photograph the check. I’ve deleted the app and re-downloaded, restart my phone and still the problem persists. Please, get this bug worked out quick!!
I love banking with Affinity Plus. There are so many advantages to working with them. Unfortunately due to their size the App is not the most friendly. I work for a small company that does not have direct deposit, so I have to deposit checks. Depositing them with the app is a pain. It seems like I have to retake the images of the 3-4 times every deposit. I follow the instructions and old steady. It never takes the photo.
The new version was installed. I tried going in today and it would not let me. There was an error message prompting “your session has expired”. It won’t allow me to use Face ID- my password- it won’t give me the option to reset my password. I’ve uninstalled it and reinstalled it and still same issue. All my life I’ve been with affinity plus credit union and I love them. I still would recommend banking with them.
I have been a member for long enough that I remember when Affinity first released an app. It was kind of clunky, but it did the job. But from then to now, They have made some tremendous strides. The app in its current format meets my needs, and doesn’t feel lacking in any way . Check deposits are a breeze, looking to see what my upcoming money transfers is simple and straightforward.....I am completely satisfied.
I keep getting prompted to change my password. I don’t want to change password! This makes this app useless to me now. I was excited about the one touch login (it’s about time) but can’t use it because I don’t want to have to change my password. What gives? Update: I entered the same password which it thankfully allowed me to do. Enabled Touch ID which was nice. Can’t seem to find pending transactions any longer? I do like seeing CC payment details on the main page.
This app makes it so I rarely have to pack up the baby and run to the bank. You can transfer money into your savings with a touch of a button, I have direct deposit so I don’t have to go there to cash my check, and my husband has a paper check every Friday but all we have to do to deposit his check is take a picture of the from and back on the app.... we rarely have to pack up the kids and leave for the bank.
But it keeps making me choose new security questions every time I sign in! When I tap the "X", it logs me out. So every time I log in, I have to choose 3 security questions. It's really irritating. Everything else about the app is great, though! Edit: logged in on a desktop and it asked me to choose 3 security questions. I was hoping it would stop asking me on the app, but I’m still getting those prompts every time I try to sign in.
I have banked with Affinity Plus for over 30 years and have never been disappointed. From a couple of lines of credit through stolen credit card resolution to my various accounts, I have found them always putting the customer first, which does not happen with most other financial institutions. Solid customer, solid bank.

The app is amazing as well! From transferring to people within your same bank to rewards that can be redeemed for in person purchases!! I love affinity so much!!!
For whatever reason when I try to log in, it says my password is wrong. I’ll make a new password that works for maybe two or three times. The third time that I try to log in, it says again that my password is incorrect, and I need to make a new password. This keeps happening over and over. Update 1/5/23. App is working correctly now, 5 stars!
The app is simple, albeit basic, but does what you need from a banking app. My single biggest complaint is the “auto check capture”never works. It used to but for the past year or more it hasn’t. So you’re always forced to wait while it tries to take it for you until it gives up and switches to manual. Either fix it or make the option to manually take the photo from the get go.
Feels like I’m in a commercial for the app every time I use it - it’s so easy!! Account information and history there at your fingertips; EFT capability for external AND internal accounts which I’ve used to effortlessly settle bills with my roommate and fam; and my personal favorite... deposit a check with an amount entry and two simple pics! I use this app regularly and recommend it very highly. Thanks Affinity!
How do I pay my credit card on time now? Like this week due on the 7 and it land on weekend but I can not schedule to pay on the 7 this weekend. It’s not like the old app where it take me to a different page and schedule to pay my credit card No no I used the wrong apps to paid. I get it now, 2 apps in apps store affinity plus apps and APFUC card apps everything is good now I love the new affinity plus apps. Use APFUC card apps to schedule to pay for your credit card everything is good now ty for making it better
It does what I need it to, quick and easy balance checks from anywhere. Great for making quick fund transfers for internal/external accounts you have contacts set up for. Only thing that it can’t do, which I haven’t had a need for yet, is adding external contacts to send/receive funds, but you can just do that on the website which is accessible on mobile.
I’ve absolutely loved the app thus far! But ever since last week my quick balance won’t work. It says “remind after log in” and it’s already turned on. Also, as of yesterday it won’t remember our user name anymore. edit* Within the last several days along with quick balance and user name being remembered not working my app is staying logged in if I don’t completely close it. Usually I would just exit the app and it would log out. Now I exit it and 10 minutes later it’s still logged on if I don’t close it in the background. It’s also extremely slow to log in or even load other screens.
I do most all things on my desktop or PC, usually only talk and text on my phone, but since I’ve had the Affinity Plus app, I often check balances, have made a couple member transfers, and have, and will continue to make transfers between my accounts. I just paid off my personal LOC, it was SO easy!! Thank you immensely to whoever was instrumental on this creation!
I have one issue with the app and that is when I go into bill pay. If I try to pay an amount more than what is due it thinks I have not made the payment and it still shows as due. Also,if I try to mark a bill paid as elsewhere it seem like is saving the info but then it still shows as due in the app. It will work fine on the web site but not in the app
Being able to see your current interest rate for each account under details would be great. Especially helpful for superior money market to ensure you’ve met the conditions for the higher rate. Update: my account is fairly new so it hasn’t accrued interest yet. Now that I know it will show the rate you can disregard my request. Thanks!
