Great to be able to have your license on your phone! Surprising that our AZ would be an early adapter! The app is easy except for the facial recognition part, where you have to connect dots “using your nose.” Sounds easy but it took a frustrating number of tries, and the app ejects you if you have too many unsuccessful tries, and you have to start at the beginning again. I think the key is not to move your head too much, and to just go slowly. The line of dots you’re working with is kind of jumpy, so I think it’s easy to get ahead of it, it can’t keep up with you. In the final image, once you’ve succeeded, there’s just a very slight motion effect; so again don’t overdo it with the head movements. For the convenience, at least within AZ, worth the efforts.
I’ve used this app since it was first developed and found it really useful for a long time. I’m one to update as early as possible, use beta profiles for iOS, etc. and this was never a problem. When I updated to iOS 17, I experienced the same crash bug as everyone else; I left feedback to Idemia and was told the app would be ready to support iOS 17 by the time it released publicly. No problem, except it wasn’t… for a month. After the month went by I was excited to update and try the app again, only to get stuck unable to scan the back of my ID, like everyone else. At that point, I was annoyed, but figured a patch would be out soon enough to get the app working. Another few weeks go by before the app is updated to “widen support for iPhone 15” and I try today to sign in. I get past the ID scan only to get stuck on the very next step when the facial scan doesn’t work. I’m not sure if there is a lack of support for the development team at Idemia or if the team needs an overhaul, but after almost 2 months, the app is still unusable. At this point, I’d rather see it removed from the App Store altogether than for people to be able to download it and not use it. I hope someone actually reads these reviews and cares enough to put forth the effort to make the app function as it once did.
Completely aggravating I rather just carry my license
First off when taking the photos where you align the dots the instructions were unclear. I took about 20 photos and was rejected. Went to help chat and got clear instructions from a rep. This made the photo a snap. So I get the mID sorted out and go back to the AZDMV to finally get license added to wallet. That site then puts up a an image that it says must be scanned to add license to wallet. I doesn’t make sense to scan except with mID app. I login to that app and it has a scan option. When I select that it says use to scan image on site you are interested in. But how do I do that? If I switch to the window with the image the mID is hidden. lf I show the scan image the mID is hidden. So I’m sure I’m missing something as there are many good reviews. Here is what really jacked my jaws and led to me deleting the app: I tried over and over to use the help chat to see what part of the process I was not understanding. I would start inputting the info they asked for and the app would switch back to logging me in. It did this over and over. Then I thought I would use email. When I tried to do that it said I needed to set up an email to contact them. This is a very shaky operation as far as I can see.
I love the idea. The way it is implemented currently is adequate. Sometimes clunky/oddly designed, but adequate. Unfortunately there is zero integration with iOS (including not working with iOS wallet app) at all besides running the actual application. So, instead of double clicking your power button and there’s your ID, you have to pick your phone up, show it your face or touch it or type a passcode to unlock it, maybe exit an app, scroll to the actual app among 1,000 other apps (not to mention there are other, similar looking Arizona dmv apps) and tap on it, wait for it to certify/load, tap a privacy mode, press share (or the produce barcode data button), and FINALLY show your massively inconvenient mobile ID to whoever is asking for it. Two clicks is much, much easier. The API exists. Please use it. :)
It works just fine depending on the people who are working at the building. For example I went to a strip club with it, they didn’t let me in using the phone app but when it was a female they for sure let her in with the app. And at circle k they claim that it haves to be a physical I .D and made a big issue about it and called the cops on me and the cop told me it was the law and I needed an ID to be able to purchase alcohol that the digital ID was not gonna work so I hope that the this company I.d,contact Circle K or the MVD contacts Circle K and lets them know that it’s the law now they have to accept digital ID because of facial recognition if not why did they make this app for! when it doesn’t work for all places but the most part it’s great.!!!!!
I simply uploaded the AZMVD app from the iPhone Store and then followed the prompts to add my drivers license. After two front & back photos of my drivers license identification card, and a few motion selected confirmation photos of my face it was done! I selected the most secured access and usage features, and then quickly confirmed everything inside of 15 minutes. That was it!! I recommend this new feature to all Arizona iPhone users!! Thank you so much AZMVD for creating a faster and more convenient way to share my drivers license identification card a thing of the past by having ‘everything’ easily viewable on my cellphone! Pro: convince and very well may save you from getting a ticket if you do not have your physical permit / license on you, if you ever get pulled over - though working at a driving school here in AZ we STILL recommend our students to keep the physical copy on them at all times if possible. With that said, people think about their devices more than they would typically think of their wallet these days so I can see why this would exist in today’s society! Cons: scanning of your actual face glitches and took some time setting that part up. Personal opinion - this is great but we are creating a more lazy society by not relying on our brains and own personal decisions making or to remember basic things… I see it even in newer vehicles. I still choose to be mindful and be self efficient!
This is pretty cool do you have your drivers license picture move pretty cool I think a holographic 3-D would be a little better more realistic to the way people look because quite honestly they really look like their drivers license picture I know I don’t which would be something to think about having the license match the way the people actually look reason being if somebody were to commit a crime but they don’t they need the public to keep an eye out for individual motor vehicle picture easily brought up to view as the photo that everyone looks at but it’s not realistic anybody that looks like the drivers license picture I think definitely 3-D scanned images on peoples phones or you would be onto something better there getting yourself closer to total recall
This app is extremely useful and comes in handy with having the option to add my State ID to my apple wallet . Which is great, no complaints but, I noticed something about this app that’s keeping it from its full potential and is missing a vital resource in the app. The app should develop an option to register a vehicle in the app from licensed drivers to have access to their registration in the apple wallet. Think about it, you get pulled over and your registration is in the glove compartment under a bunch of papers and have to dig through it to find it. Now think about not having to go through the hassle and just double tapping the home button and pulled it up saves immensely amount of time, stress and a life saver.
If you want to consistently use this app, never upgrade your phone or your iOS version.
I use this regularly as I use it to authenticate into any of the ADOT or MVD sites. Then I made the mistake of upgrading my phone last year and the iOS version this year and both have rendered this app useless. The developer will eventually getting around to fix it so if you want to use this, I would just suggest waiting until after the holiday season at the end of the year because history dictates it will take them this long to acknowledge it and fix it. Even though they’ve had months prior to the iOS 17 upgrade, this does not seem to matter to the app developer. if you call or chat with the developer through the contacts that they have provided, you will either hear they don’t know what you are talking about or the engineers are aware of it but it will still take months for them to update this app.
I spent 30 minutes trying to match a dot on my phone screen using my NOSE! After 3 attempts, I gave up. I had already uploaded my information & photos of my DL to the Arizona MVD website via my Apple Wallet. After all of that, I received a text stating that additional authentication was required using this app! Totally ridiculous process. I had just been to the MVD to renew my license. I told the clerk in person that I already had trouble uploading my DL to my Watch. He was clueless to the app and the Apple Wallet. He was not alone. Before going there, I wasted time calling in for info about uploading my DL to my Apple Wallet. In all, it toile me 5 attempts, a phone call & a physical visit to the MVD to achieve ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! And I am very adept at the internet, mobile devices & apps. I feel sorry for anyone who may be a beginner with AI. But, right now, I’m over this nonsense. I’ll just keep my license in my ACTUAL wallet!
I guess we were one of the lucky ones. Went to the local DMV. When we entered there were no lines was able to update our drivers licenses and get a new title on our vehicle which would indicate handicap. The lady at the desk was wonderful. She was more than helpful working through this procedure. I know it’s not always that way I’ve been going there for 50 years. Many times I’ve had to wait for over an hour. But this time we were able to complete our task in a timely manner. We did research what we need to have with us before we went. We had all the documentation that we needed which was very helpful. Good job this time.
I don’t usually rate an app one way or the other, but this is one that’s worthy. ESPECIALLY because it’s a “government” app. Regardless of who created it or whatever…I’m impressed that it’s easier more efficient & up to date than any other Local, State or Federal application in my experience. Admittedly I haven’t visited every one of them, however this one definitely was well thought out and easy to navigate to accomplish the several tasks on several occasions. Kudos to everyone who was involved in the implementation.
Context: I have an iPhone 13, and my camera is clear not cracked. In my camera app, my photos from both my front and back camera render crystal clear. When dealing with this app, I can take pictures with my back camera just fine, but my front camera is extremely unclear, and blurry. Again, the camera is perfectly fine through the regular camera app. I am not able to pass the “selfie” section due to this error on the apps part. If I close and re-open the app during this process, it gets even more blurry, making me to believe it to be a software issue within the app. Upon googling this issue, over 106 people are having this same issue over the past couple of months with no sign of a solution. This app is useless and wasting resources, if this issue is not fixed urgently.
What a time to be alive, with layoffs in Silicon Valley shifting user testing from UIX teams to the actual users!!! On top of everything else the average American had to endure during the Pandemic, we now have this app, where you can spend your entire lunch break trying to photograph your ID on a dark background in a well-lit room, and the app will refuse to recognize your ID but be happy to accept pictures of the Box of Saltines that happens to be on the table, your leg, or really anything else besides your actual ID. Yaaaaaaaaay auto-focus! So much less frustrating than manual focus. After all, the app knows best what is your ID and what is your pathetic lunch. Why are you building this app from scratch anyway? Bank mobile apps have this down to a science— I’ve been depositing checks by mobile for years without this kind of hassle. Sigh.
No matter what I did I can not get the app to take a photo of my license on either side. It says there is a frame to put my license in but the frame never appears. The closet thing to the frame is a single white line on the on the left side of the screen for taking the photo, but no matter how hard I’ve tried I can’t take a photo of my license. I really like the concept of the app and would certainly use it. Please, please update the app so I can take a photo of my license on my iPhone 12 Pro. Thank you. I’ve since talked with two different people on chat and still get the same results, unable to detect AZ driver’s license. I believe they said they are bumping this problem up to engineering. Is there a way to manually enter the information into the app?
When I first downloaded the app, everything worked as it should on my iPhone 11 Pro. However, after purchasing a new iPhone 14 Pro a couple months ago, the scan feature will not focus on my license, rendering the app useless. Despite the app being compatible with my new phone, having the most recent version history, and re-downloading it, nothing has resolved this issue. I reached out to the developer for assistance and was told it’s a known issue and that it would be fixed within the following week. I reached out to the developer when I first purchased my new phone, and this issue is yet to be resolved as of this review date. Such a shame cause it was great having the mobile ID on my old phone!
I have been waiting for over two months since I got my iPhone 14 Pro for this app to update. The ID capture portion of the app, which is required to use it at all (enrollment verification and what not) does NOT work with the iPhone 14 Pro’s camera. If you try to fit your ID in the frame, the image is blurry, and it won’t capture. If you try and make the text clear, the ID is about a quarter of the frame, and won’t capture. I submitted a ticket with Idemia, and they said: “Our app is currently not compatible with IOS 16. Our devs are working on a updated version I would recommend checking again next week.” This was over two months ago, and a refresh of the ticket got this as a reply: “I’m very sorry for the inconvenience, we don't have a timeframe for when the issue will be fixed but I would recommend to keep checking once a week. Please be patient while we work to fix the issue.” This is frankly unacceptable, and denies a complete user base on Apple devices usable access to the app. Anyone on an iPhone 14 Pro is probably affected, and until an update happens, this issue probably won’t be fixed. Please make this a priority, Idemia…
This is a great app once you get it set up. The challenging part was getting it to confirm it’s you. You have to face the phone and an orange dotted line appears that you have to move to a fixed point by moving your nose. You have to do this three times and sometimes it’s almost impossible to do because you have to turn your head so far it’s hard to see the screen. On the third attempt I was able to finally do it, but was about to give up. Now that it’s done it’s a good resource to have for identification if you’ve misplaced your drivers license.
I am a forgetful person as I have a TBI. I LOVE that if you forget your wallet you can use your mobile ID. Why it didn’t get 5 stars is because when I recently got a new phone the app no longer worked. I wish they made it where you can log into the app via email and password or something similar instead you have to re-register and the app wasn’t compatible with my new phone. It took months for the app to work on my new phone. Again that could have been avoided if they let you log in via Face ID or something instead of having to start from scratch.
I am unsure of the purpose of this app (data collection on users maybe?). It reminds me of a tech demo. I recently went on vacation and decided this app would be convenient, this was my experience: •Boarding a plane in AZ: TSA had no idea what the app was or how to scan it •Visiting a large, chain bar in the airport in AZ: Mobile ID’s not accepted because they can’t verify it. •Renting a car at my destination, at a large chain rental company in US: Mobile ID’s not accepted per company policy because they can’t scan them or make copies. And then when I arrived back home in AZ, my Uber driver got pulled over by the police for some reason and my ID was requested as well. When I pulled up the mobile ID, the officer told me I needed to produce a physical ID or I would be detained until my identity could be confirmed. He had never heard of or used the MVD ID app. So overall, this application literally failed me every time I used it. Not sure what its purpose is, but MVD needs to get everyone on the same page before saying that it’s a convenient alternative for ID. Deleting the app off my phone, as I don’t know what data it’s collecting while faking being an ID app.
Leading the way into the future with this neat concept. It’s not to often that you’ll leave home without your phone, but that bulky wallet or purse can stay when it’s a quick run to the store. All you need is your debit card right. Until you see something that catches your eye or might as well get it now since your out and about. Now you’re good to go and make that purchase having your ID readily available on your device!
As far as the App itself goes it works flawless and is quite handy. I only have one request to add to the system and that would be the ability to email a copy directly from the app. However the reason I can’t give it 5 stars is the Mobile ID app is not accepted anywhere in the state. Even the MVD which advertises this app does not accept it as Proof of ID. If Arizona is going to Offer Mobile ID as an Option then the state agencies need to also fall in line and get on board with the program otherwise it’s just a waste of time and tax funds that could have gone elsewhere.
A nice lady at the third party DMV informed me during the 2nd replacement of my driver’s license about this app and told me how to download it. I meant to but didn’t and a week later boom lost the new one as soon as I got the third replacement in the mail I downloaded the app. And let me tell you the stress level of having lost it a 4th, 5th and yes 6th time in a 10 month period was basically nothing compared what it had been and would have been without it. 10 out of 5
Great idea! If a mobile ID was actually useful for anything! Want to buy a pack of smokes, DENIED! “We need a hard copy”. Oh, a hard copy like the paper one they give you while waiting for you replacement license? “NO! A regular license!” Ok, we’ll maybe I’ll just go get a drink to take my mind off the nicotine withdrawals…”DENIED! We only accept real licenses!” Ok, guess I’ll pick my granddaughter up from school…. No I won’t. Not without a “real” license. The only purpose this app has, from what I can tell, is for the cops, who can look up on their computer whether or not you have a valid license. App works fine, it’s just a waste of space on my phone because it’s completely useless!!!! I would give it zero stars if I could!!!!!
The app made it easy to renew my wife’s driver’s license without having to make an appointment. Then it made it easy for me to make an appointment because I needed to renew in person. I should also note that the in person process was also easy, quick and efficient. MVD has come a long way since the days of long lines and slow service. They’ve done a good job of incorporating technology, albeit maybe slower than some would have liked.
The set up is a little disconcerting as the image is taken before the license is lined up. Once recorded I enjoyed the app until it quit working. I tried opening it at least 25 times and only got a black screen. I attempted to reload the app several times with the same results. I finally gave up and waited until the next day. The setup process became extremely difficult and kept asking if I was having trouble. I wasn’t but there was no way for me to ask the app if it was having trouble. Finally reloaded and working fine.
I j just went through the process of updating my bubble ID in my Apple wallet since my previous drivers license had expired. It took a little time to accomplish, but was straightforward in the end. I really enjoy having my license in digital form right in hand in my phone. It’s so much more convenient than having to dig for my physical license in my wallet. I only wish there were more places compatible with using my mobile ID.
The app constantly gives me an error message whenever I try to use it that says, “Request Problem. A problem occurred while downloading requests.” I have already contacted support; their answer was to simply delete and reinstall the app. I have repeatedly deleted, re-installed, and re-activated my mobile identification multiple times. The app still constantly produces the same error every time I try to use the request functionality, no matter how many times I delete and re-install. The State of Arizona simply tells me to contact Idemia as the State is not actually responsible for the app. The support provided by Idemia and the State of Arizona are awful.
The most recent update a couple days ago seem to have cured the inability for iPhone 14. As many other reviews mentioned the camera wouldn’t focus and they were unable to upload ID to the app for verification. With this recent update I was able to scan and verify first try after expediting the same issues as many others previously.
The app was working great however since iOS 15 and the new iPhone's came out it no longer works correctly on the new iPhone 13 pro’s. Me and the wife both have an iPhone 13 pro and it will not recognize our ID’s through the camera no matter the angle or lighting. I think it’s a software issue with the App needing to be updated to work with IOS 15 and the new iPhone's. Please update the app And if you could find a way to allow us to Add our ID to Apple Wallet would be awesome so we can keep our ID with our credit cards in one place. Thanks
I’d give this app/service a 5-star rating right now. But, the only issue I have with this app is the lack of Apple Wallet support. Please allow me to add my ID as a card to my Apple Wallet, so I don’t have to unlock my phone, and then open the app, to be able to present my digital ID. Other than that, the rest of the app/service is rock-solid and stable. Also, an explanation of what the “certify” button in the app is used for (and when it’s necessary) would be much appreciated.
Everything works great in setting up the app except for the selfie you have to take. Apple’s face recognition process is easy, straight forward and effective. This app has you pointing your nose to “connect the dots” as a process for taking a selfie. Others have complained of the ridiculous process to take a selfie. Deleted this app faster that it took me to download. Who needs an app with all your personal info including your drivers license on your phone anyway. Just another method for hackers to get your info. Don’t do it! Look up user’s feedback on AZDOT as people are having trouble using the app as it is not doing what the developer says it will do.
I upgraded to the new iPhone and now it won’t let me add my ID card. It will successfully scan the front most of the time, but it never accepts the back scan. I have done it many times. I tried restarting my phone and also tried deleting and reinstalling the app and nothing works. I have the new ID if that matters. Phone is on iOS version 17.0.2. Edit: I have upgraded the app to the version the developer says supports iOS 17, but it still doesn’t work. I have AZ’s newest ID and it won’t let me add it. It will scan the front sometimes, but will never scan the back successfully. Please fix this issue.
interesting concept - unsure of immediate usefulness
just heard about this app today and went ahead to set it up and tried to add my ID to my apple wallet - not an option. based on the fact this system of identification is brand new, i also doubt it will be accepted as a form of legitimate ID in most scenarios. hopefully this will change soon, otherwise i’m not sure what the point of it is when there’s no apple ID wallet compatibility to boot. though i could have sworn i read that there was.
It was a matter of time and being able to use this app allows you to control what personal info is shared and with whom. If someone needs to verify your age, why should they be privy to your home address? Doesn’t make sense. And you can update your address as needed instead of getting a new driver’s license produced because the app has it updated already! Smart move AZ. Smart.
The fact that I don’t have to carry my identification with me anymore it can live on my phone with my credit cards and all of the people I love his information and anything else that’s really important like my blood type or my emergency contact it’s amazing. Yeah!! Also it’s about time and when can my phone just automatically process what I’m thinking without me actually having to type it???
Living in other states I always wondered, with the technology and safety features available on smartphones how is it possible we still have rely on a piece of plastic to identify ourselves? Arizona leading the way on identification technology light years away from other states. The app and the process were intuitive and easy to use, anyone could figure this out and it works beautifully!
This app is really good to have for easy identification purposes and to keep up with your vehicle’s information. I just recently found out that I still have the lien on my truck that’s been paid off for months now. I would not have known that till I tried to sell my car. Maybe that’s why no title has been issued i don’t know it’s my first time buying a car off the lot. But I love the app!
After 4+ months am update was finally released February 11. However it’s still not working on my iPhone 14 Pro. It does take a picture of the front & back of my drivers license. Then it had me connect the dots which I do successfully multiple times but it always says I failed. Very disappointing. Note: after chatting with App Support I did get it to work - they suggested I remove my glasses when moving the dots. It to 3 tries but it did work and I’m able to use MID Az again.
This is the wave of the future! People lose their wallets all the time, so this will definitely be handy to not have to worry about that issue and since a lot of airline/train/bus tickets are already available on our phones, showing our IDS on our phone should be a thing, too. Plus I don’t have to worry about a stranger touching/holding my ID and forgetting to give it back
Glad Arizona presented this app to its citizens. It’s a little hard to get the pictures to take but I found not laying them on white paper is best. Use a dark background instead. Comes out really good and it even corrected my address in the app to my new one without me doing a thing. I was a little freaked out about that at first but wow, made it easy. Now can I use it at the airport when I fly?!
This happened last year. When Apple pushed iOS 16, this app did not have the correct updates to handle the new cameras in iPhone 14ProMax, the app was broken. I deleted the app, the downloaded a new current copy. Because it did not have the correct camera info, it was impossible to set up my account. I’m on the same phone, and updated to iOS 17 yesterday. This app crashes after it successful FaceID verification. The developer has known for months this was coming and yet here we are, inoperative again.
Nice to have AZ license and airline boarding pass on phone
A little challenge to achieve the AZ license (tried 3 times for Face ID and failed - finally used the multiple questions verify IS and worked perfect). Sure will save time and struggle to pull out my license and have to put it back in my wallet versus phone where I also use the Apple Wallet for my credit cards! Technology rules!!??
The app is absolutely wonderful. I love everything it shows portrays and lists for you on your phone but one problem I’m having I cannot scan my brand new drivers license. It will not allow me to do that. It scans the front and the back and takes a picture of both, but then says cannot verify ID I don’t know what’s wrong.
I reached out to the email helpline provided on the app and received this on 1/2. “Unfortunately our devs are still working on an update for the iPhone 14's. We have yet to receive an ETA on when the issue will be fixed. However I have taken down your email to my list so I can personally notify you of when the issue is resolved.” Maybe if people start flooding their inbox they might get the idea that people are extremely unhappy about this.
Recently traveled via plane and accidentally left my drivers license at home. TSA at the Prescott Airport wouldn’t accept it. Luckily I had my DOT badge which TSA accepted. When I arrived in Dallas, the rental car company wouldn’t accept it. Had to get a ride to the hotel from a coworker, have my wife overnight my physical driver’s license, then return to the rental car company. In short, a waste until it starts to be accepted.
I love having Mobile ID!! More and more places are realizing they can accept it and it's become easier at the grocery store or doctor's office or other business which often ask for a license. Our phones are usually out already and easiest to show Mobile ID than fumble for a card in your purse or wallet. Thanks!!
This app saved me at a car dealership. I moved in with me girlfriend without any lease or utilities in my name. I bought a car in the same month using my old driver’s license with my previous address. This app was good enough to verify my identity and current address against my credit report, without paying or waiting for a new ID from MVD.
The app seems to have a problem when holding it flat and level in landscape mode. Cant even hold it at a 45 before it changes direction. The barcode doesnt want to scan efficiently when it portrait mode...... and you cant enlarge just the one side of the id..... Not all businesses are "trained" on how to properly accept an ID thru the phone. So kinda crappy because my ids always get trashed because well, they dont make them like they used toooo.
