The app itself leaves a lot to be desired
I thought this was a great idea, so that I wouldn’t have to remember to bring my physical card all the time. And it worked well for several months. Until it didn’t. About a month ago, it hadn’t processed me swiping off. I tried calling but with the long wait times, I figured I would let it go, the $5 I didn’t get back on my card didn’t seem worth hours on the phone. And now, my card is blocked even though it has enough funds. No reason given. There is no information, and the app seems to have deleted everything - when I try to access my profile, I get a blank screen. And of course customer service is closed due to the holidays - which is exactly when it’s the most relevant with ride share services likely to have surge pricing. Frustrating and disappointing.

Who made this?
The user interface is terrible. The Home screen should have your cards. Deleting blocked or unused card should be easily accessible, like how its easily it is to get autopay set up. I’ve never used your trip tool. The settings menu is ok, but you still don’t have an option to DELETE unused cards. Your frequently asked questions? The first two questions Are about the app I already downloaded on my phone. Who would ask about the features and/or how to download an app that is already downloaded. I just don’t see any of the questions on the frequently asked section ever being useful or commonly asked. Your customer service!!! Oh man it’s trash, I felt like I was annoying someone, I asked “How do I delete my blocked cards?” Their response, “click the 3 dots on the top right corner, and it will give you the option to deregister your card” There isn’t three dots on the top right corner anywhere on this app. Lets say you want to add a plastic card you currently have to your wallet, the obvious procedure would be the ones taken for registering the card, and then add the option to autopay. This app wants you to set up the payment first, why!!!? If I need to be coached on how to use your app then its Poor UI, I should tap the card BOOM its on my phone, no need for the autopay nonsense until we already have the card on my phone. Good luck with your ventures and I hope it works out

Would NOT recommend
Would not recommend. The system routinely blocks your clipper card rendering it unusable until you call customer support to fix the problem. In the meantime, you need a backup clipper card handy to travel. Blocks usually take 5 days to fix if it can be fixed. And a fix by customer support cannot be verified until you tag your card at a reader and see if the fix ‘took’. But you are warned that readers on Muni buses and LRVs sometimes do not correct the problem as they are not real time with the clipper system and your card may remain blocked. My card has been now blocked for three weeks and the only explanation I am given is that some Muni bus readers are really old and then simply ‘brick’ your clipper card when they are tagged and at that point there is nothing customer support can do except tell you to buy a new clipper card and load it to my phone and then they will be happy to transfer over the funds on my blocked card to the new card I have added. No way am I going to load another clipper card on my phone, I am going back to having the plastic clipper card which never gave me any problems nor required me to call Clipper customer service weekly.

Buggy app that keeps overcharging me!
My first problem was when I purchased the monthly pass on Sept 1st, and I was charged $81 three times. Customer service ended refunding the extra charges which apparently takes 30 days to refund. My second problem happened last Friday (Sept 10th). After I cancelled auto load as I planned on purchasing monthly pass each month. However when I turned OFF auto load, it charged me 30 dollars. I should only be charged the $30 if my auto load is ON and my cash value falls under a certain amount. Clearly this should not have happened as I already have a monthly pass active and I have more than $10 on my Clipper card balance. I called customer service three times and each time they put me on hold to “check something for me” and ended up disconnecting each time. I ended up opening a dispute through my credit card company. It’s just not worth going through Clipper customer service because of their long wait times (anywhere between 15 to 40 minutes) and unreliable call connection. This app has too many bugs that affects my bank account, and is very confusing to use due to bad user experience design choices.

Taking money without my consent and a very poor customer service help
I had a monthly pass on autopay that I canceled last August and received a confirmation email about. About a week ago a took the Muni pass and used my Clipper Card after adding enough money to it. For a reason that I can’t understand and that even the costumer service couldn’t explain, when I scan my Clipper card on the bus, the system automatically activated the monthly pass WITHOUT my permission, I NOT even notified, until I see $98 taken from my bank account. When I called the customer service they told that I have never deactivated the auto pay, even if they could easily see the pass was not activated for months. I checked my emails and was able to find the confirmation email I received when I canceled the auto pay in August, so I called again and told them that and they said that they were not able to see that far in the past. I forwarded the confirmation email to customer service email and I was told that they were unable to help me by email because of the privacy policy. So $98 was stolen from without my consent or even my knowledge and nobody is able to help me.

Classist jerks
I need to travel in the Bay Area for one day only and was trying to make my trip easier by setting this up early but you have to have an IPhone 8 or newer to use a digital card, have to purchase a physical card otherwise. And it says you cannot buy cards at stations?? Going to have to track the stupid thing down in an unfamiliar airport cuz I hope they’d have one there somewhere 🙄. My hop card in Portland does not charge me extra to buy a physical card just because I don’t have five hundred dollars to buy a new phone every couple years. I’m comfortably using an iPhone SE and able to use public transport with it in Portland. What kind of nonsense is this. This is really inaccessible to people who have lower funds or may not be able to buy a card or only need one dang trip. It’s already way too expensive to use a card there based on mileage rather than time or per trip. 13 dang dollars instead of 10 for one stupid day that I won’t be back in the area for who knows how long, I haven’t been there in like six years already.

Terrible, terrible UX
I kept ending up with cards that would say “see agent” and say “blocked” on the app. Didn’t know what was wrong, agent at station could never help, so I would get a new clipper card. Last month, my new clipper ran out of funds and I both tried to set up auto load and add funds directly. In the app it seemed neither worked - it has showed just $1 on the card and both auto load and payment “pending“ for the month since then. But then I noticed $80 of charges for that day a month ago on my credit card bill! Called the help center. Rep explained that when I had added a new payment method, all the old card’s auto loads had gone through, even though they had been “blocked” and had seemed to have a different issue from insufficient funds. **It turns out you have to attempt to travel in order for the “blocked” and “pending” tags to go away?!? Pending isn’t the usual “payment pending”, it’s “travel pending”. 🙄 ** Since payments were made to a bunch of old cards, I needed to consolidate funds onto the new card. To do this you have to pay a $5 transfer per card. Such a racket. One of the cards auto loaded was one I had lost so I asked to cancel it. She said I could rest assured - I should see a “blocked” state in the app. You know, the same “blocked” state that isn’t real if the card has been successfully auto loaded and goes away upon travel. As a user you have no idea which of those two states the card is in.

It took my $ just fine… but that’s it..
Don’t bother with this app. I’m furious! I’m taking BART from the new Berryessa station in San Jose to SFO to catch a late morning flight. I’m disabled and need extra time to get to the train. The BART site linked me to this app where I’m supposed to be able to add fare to a virtual card to be stored in my Apple Wallet. The app seems very basic but as long as I get my ticket then I could care less how basic or extravagant the platform is. I got the total fare cost and was able to add $7.05 to my wallet for use to board BART in the morning. My bank pinged me that my transaction went through. However, when I saved my card to the wallet, I received an error message. I tried multiple times to refresh the app, but there was no trace of the $ taken from my bank account. And there are no weekend or evening customer service hours. So I’m stuck not knowing if I have a ticket or not until I get to the station. Trust me- just go to the station to buy your ticket. This app stinks

Worthless app - needs to be burned down and rebuilt by a new team
Update: it looks like this app was last updated a year ago, is broken, and then no one has bothered to update it. I will report it to the Apple Store for removal. I tried to add cash to my existing cards. App failed. I tried to add a new plastic card. App failed. I tried to add an existing card to my Apple Wallet. The app failed. It’s a worthless app. I use the Bart app to pay for parking and get routes. They should consolidate their payments there and just fire Clipper and shut down this app. I’ve never seen an app fail to perform basic functions. It needs a redesign from the ground up for simplicity and lots of reliability testing (I build features for apps for a billion people - this app is a disaster and any team making it needs to be replaced. It’s so bad that I just deleted the app and all my data from it. Apps this bad aren’t built with basic security and your credit cards and personal information are at risk.

It’s a decent start…
That you are is a bit clumsy, and not very good looking. There’s a section if you dig, to save a route, but no apparent way to actually save a route! Choosing a time of arrival or departure should be more evident they clicking on a very small line of text it’s tucked in between two other features. I could go on, but it’s time to get ready and play bus roulette with AC Transit. Will it be on time? Will it be canceled? Will I get the rear driver who knows that the brake and accelerator pedals should not be pushed hard every time they are used? bone rattling suspension is hard enough to tolerate, let alone the constant jerks and starts from the driver’s inept pedal work. Kudos to the few who know how to drive a bus smoothly!

Allow riders to pay with Clipper app otherwise the app is useless
I tried to use the Clipper app to ride BART not realizing that that’s not possible. I tried to transfer my Clipper card that now lives in the Clipper app to my Apple Wallet because that’s what lets you use your phone to ride and it wouldn’t let me. Wallet needed the physical Clipper card that I originally transferred into the Clipper app, which I didn’t have with me because I thought I didn’t need to carry it anymore when I downloaded the Clipper app! There was a woman at the SFO BART station with a Clipper logo shirt that was helping me and a few others and even she said, “Don’t use the app.” The Clipper app says in its FAQ that you can’t use it to ride but it’s still useful because you can top up your card using the app. But you can top up your card using Wallet. I guess it’s useful if you use their Trip Tools feature but I automatically go to Google Maps or Citymapper app so this app is essentially useless to me.

Do not load your clipper card to apple wallet
I really advice you not to add your clipper card to your apple wallet until clipper figures out a better workflow for situations where your phone gets lost. I recently lost my phone (it was likely stolen), so I marked it as lost on the Find My iPhone app. Doing this immediately suspended my clipper card and nulled it unbeknownst to me. I bought a new phone and was trying to set it up, and I couldn’t so I called Clipper support where they told me that they couldn’t help, I had to go and get a new clipper card at Embarcadero station to transfer my clipper balance to a new card. This also affects my commuter benefits because they are linked to my now suspended clipper card. There really should be a more streamlined process for situations like this and I am kicking myself for putting my clipper card onto my phone. Had I know this was a possibility, I wouldn’t have added it to my apple wallet.

SCAM!!!!!! 🤬🤬🤬
This app is absolute TRASH!!! If I could rate ZERO stars, I would! 😤 I’m new to SF and was told to get a clipper card, as I can use it with both the Bart & Muni. Thank goodness I was skeptical and only added $5 to create a virtual card to my Apple wallet. I received a “payment failed” error message, but clipper stole the $5 I tried to upload!!! To add more frustration, the virtual card never generated! I immediately called customer support, but they are completely useless! The person I spoke to said that my money would be refunded within 3-5 business days…but in the case that it is not refunded, they want me to call back after 5 business days! It’s a scam!!! The NYC MTA is not flawless, but at least their system is user friendly and actually WORKS! Clipper is such a disappointment to Silicon Valley. Do yourself a favor and do not waste your time with this scam. You will just be at a loss of money and unnecessary stress. 🤬🤬🤬

Extremely frustrating, missed train, lost money
I’m in town on vacation, downloaded the clipper app, created a new account, registered a new clipper card, and added funds to it. When the screen prompted me to add the clipper card to my iPhone wallet, I agreed to the terms but it never loaded. After it froze, I had to restart the app and then the funds were gone. I never got an email confirmation that I registered a new card and loaded funds on it. But of course the charge went through on my credit card. Stupid me decided to try again but through the actual Apple wallet instead of the clipper app, but then it double charged my credit card! I tried to call customer service but it had a 40 minute wait!! I’m on vacation and do not want to spend 40 minutes waiting for someone to fix a shoddy app. Extremely frustrating that I lost money and missed the train.

A total failure
We installed the Clipper app on my wife’s iPhone, set up an account, and established a virtual Clipper card with value. The app complained that the virtual card was not associated with any device, and asked us to add the card to Apple Wallet. Fine—except the app provides NO WAY TO DO THIS—unlike every other bank card and airline or hotel loyalty account that I’ve seen in the last 5 years. Apple Pay provides no way to add an existing virtual card, only a physical plastic card. After nearly an hour on the phone, the only thing the customer “service” rep could do is send us a new plastic card that we will immediately scan into my wife’s phone. Welcome to 1990. It’s also a very poor transit planning app, and a waste of effort given that pretty much every transit agency under the MTC umbrella has apps that do the same thing, only better.

Frustrating system
The clipper card and app in principal is a good idea. But the logic with clipper and the general network has a lot to be desired. When I have money on my card it doesn’t always work. When I top it up online it takes an age to get to the card, sometimes 5-10 days. If I don’t tag within the time the money is pending, it expires. It’s like they really don’t want to take my money or use the system. Loading at a station is just as frustrating, machines don’t always work, big queues when they do and when you enquire at the main station they’ll often suggest to go find a Walgreens for a ‘quick’ top up which means leaving the station, not ideal if your train is about to leave and there’s one every hour! When I consider the above it makes the Uber app a lot more appealing.

Card balances do not update!!
I noticed my card balances were not updating. I tried swiping down to refresh, and I get the little wheel showing a refresh, but neither the cash balance nor the BART balance will update on any of my clipper cards. I uninstalled and then reinstalled the app, and every card updated with the current balance. HOWEVER… now it is March 29 and I have the same issue again. Its showing my last update as Feb 6th, and I cannot get balances to update. Reinstalling the app every time I ride BART is not a sustainable solution to this problem. Checking card balance is the main reason for having the app so that’s why I only give it 2 stars. *** Someone needs to fix this right away before I delete the app for good.

Money on my card
Ok, here is my story. My uncle bought me my clipper card. I was at McArthur Bart station and my uncle was loading my card. I went from McArthur to Milbrae. That left me with 55 cents. Then, two days ago, I went to visit my uncle again and I had to load my card again. While the machine that I reloaded my card with updated, the app on my phone, which I had added my card to, didn’t update, and today, after taking two trains, still says 55 cents in my account. I think that the app was supposed to update but just didn’t, and that was what was making it bad. Now I don’t know if I have to reload or not or how many stations I need to take to reload. Is this app worth getting?

Only load amount needed
I like the ease of Clipper card for the Bay Area bart, but I preloaded my clipper card as a tourist. I waited 90 minutes in a customer service phone call to find out that the balance I have left on my clipper card can only be refunded on my original form of payment as long as I pay an additional $5.00 cancel fee and return the physical card. This made no sense as I opted for the electronic card on my Apple wallet from the App Store. From there Clipper Card will send me my refund in 30 days. My tip is only use what you need for your travels if you are from out of town.

Not for Tourists
First, you still have to pay $3 for the Clipper Card as this doesn’t become a card free app. If you don’t live here you may not be able to use it. I bought the card and put $10 on it at the machine. I put an additional $20 on it Sunday on the app. Monday late morning I saw I didn’t have enough money on it. At the station they said it may take up to 48 hours to load. As a non-resident I can see this as a huge issue. I have about 15 hours to go to see if I get my money back. Also it shows a $2.50 bus ride and I didn’t take a bus, but rode the train. I was forced to put additional money on the card today, but doesn’t show my rides or current balance. This may look electronic, but may actually be using the pigeons around to carry information.

Has a mind of it’s own
Wanted a clipper for my wallet, thought I had to download the app to do that. (you can just add that on apple wallet itself, so that was my mistake) But while I was trying to set up the clipper wallet on the app it took my money before confirming with me that I have the card. I did get the money back but that was an unnecessary jump scare. I had problem with getting the card cuz my phone was in a different region so I changed it and suddenly they didn’t let me add a clipper to my wallet, suddenly I couldn’t press anything. They also sent me a confirmation number for no reason, there was no where to apply the confirmation number and I couldn’t press add clipper to wallet anyways so that was useless. do not recommend. Just do it on apple wallet, saves u time n peace of mind.

App does less than promised
The Clipper app does the same things as the Clipper website, and it’s not any better designed, so not doing anything worth a download. Fine to have, but not any more useful than the website. Also, it does not let you pay for rides as strongly implied. You have to set up your Clipper card in Apple Wallet to do that; having the Clipper app is unneeded to do that. Note that if you have the original TransLink cards, you cannot set them up in Apple Wallet. You’ll need to get a new Clipper card, transfer your balance and passes and commuter program autoloads to it, then set up in Apple Wallet. If the Clipper app was actually related to making payments, maybe that could all be avoided. But it’s not.

Horrible app and powerless customer service
My app says everything is fine but it won’t work. I call. Im told there’s a block a supervisor can lift. Im on hold for 40 minutes only to be told by the supervisor that they can’t do anything it’ll be up to 3 days for the hold to lift. I read the payment confirmation reference number but they can’t find it then like magic the payment is cancelled by Clipper. Amazing they couldn’t find something they then cancelled. So I didn’t get to work because I am not going to buy another clipper card for $3 then be charged another $5 to transfer balances to one card. So I could download the app and sign up immediately but once your a customer it takes up to 3 days for payment to hit your account?!? Junk company and junk app.

Horrible user interface.
I used this two years ago and then tried today on a newer phone. So many things wrong: 1) why do you need my home address? 2) why can’t you enable auto fill so I don’t have to type everything in? 3) your scan of my credit card didn’t work. 4) I tried adding $10 to my clipper Apple Wallet and the money was charged to my card but I can’t see it in Apple Wallet or the Ap. 5) I tried signing in with my email address and said the account wasn’t found. I tried creating an account with that email address and it gave a cryptic error message saying to try to log in with the email or use another email address. I wonder who got paid off or got campaign donations to have this horrible app made.

I thought the app would allow me to pay with the app but it doesn’t. You have to transfer to Apple Pay which doesn’t allow you to load using your commuter card. Then when I tried to load the clipper card on the app, the box where you input the specific amount won’t stop loading/flashing so I can never enter the amount. Why can’t Bart be like the NY subway where you can simply pay with your credit card by scanning at the station?! This whole clipper card thing is so stupid. Fine, if you want people to have the card so they can have a discount, cool—but allow people who don’t need it to pay more easily especially when you forget your card or the app functionality fails (or if you’re from out of town).

Can never load money with my card
I have only been able to load this card twice with the bank card I have on file. Several attempts and it will tell me it can’t process. No need for me to contact my bank as I use this card for other purchases and never have an issue. Especially since clipper is as able to process it two times before. This service is not user friendly and when contacting customer service they have no answer as to why I cannot use my card. When I’ve contacted via email I have not received a response. My son will just go back to using cash because this is ridiculous because how is it that my only alternative is to go to a Walgreens to load the card. Not very effective

Slow credit load
We went to Sausalito after purchasing a card the night before. Got there and walked around and created an account online with the mobile app. The balance showed and we felt secured that we would make it home in good timing via the bus. Just before we went back to union square, we decided to check our clipper app. The balance was negative. 😳 So we added funds to our account. Once the bus arrived we got on the bus and funds still yet was not on our cards. We would have missed our bus if it wasn’t for some nice people. Today, during Covid we don’t carry cash. The system for cashless travelers is not a sustainable system. Program needs to be upgraded to quickly update card payment info for users.

Very buggy, Apple Pay integration barely works
Shows cards as being installed on my watch and phone that are definitely not on those devices. No way to disable cards attached to devices that have been disabled - I had my Apple Watch replaced and there’s no way to deactivate the card that was attached to the old device, or transfer the balance off it. And I can’t add a new card to my new watch because the setup button is just disabled. Which I’m guessing is because it still thinks the old card on my old watch is current? No idea, there are no messages about it or way to fix anything in the app. Lots of other stuff is very broken too. Eg the “edit profile” settings screen is just… blank.

App doesn’t update $ or history
This app is useless, I have not been able to use it for much. The Bart station attendant advised me not to link my card to it because it often doesn’t work: the readers won’t take it. It won’t even load the amount of money you have on it, or your history trip, no matter how many times you try to refresh it. The last update it would show is from March 16 (April 18 is the date of this review). Why do I need it if I still have to go to the Bart station to find out how much $ I have left on the card. By the way, if you are on a hurry and you want to fill your card, DO NOT count on filling it with the app. The auto payment won’t load before 6 to 7 business days… sigh

You’d think that you’d have the convenience of loading the cash on your phone or your card via the app but it takes DAYS to get the money onto your card. This app is pointless. There is no reason it should take days to load the money but magically going to Walgreens is “faster”. You’d think you’d also have the convenience of monitoring your rides, NOPE! That also takes days to load in. So unless clipper card fixes whatever issue that “magically” doesn’t allow you to reload the card instantly (take a page from the Starbucks app!!!) then there is no reason to have it on your phone. Even the Apple Card function is pointless because you can only have one card digitally. Meaning, clipper card creates and registers a whole NEW card and your plastic card is useless as well. 1/10. Don’t download this lol.

Useless for visitors
I am only in San Francisco for a few days. I am a very experienced transit user and transportation professional. But even though I went through way too many steps to download the app, set up an account, and hook it up to a credit card, I literally can’t find any way to use this app to pay for transit trips. The app seems only to work if you already own an existing plastic Clipper card? And I was trying to avoid buying exactly that. Overall, I found it an incredibly frustrating experience and can’t believe that such an important city hasn’t figured out a better way to make using transit easy with a smart phone. I mean, it’s only the tech capital of the United States, after all…

Good, WHEN, it works
Annoying that every US city public transit system is using different payment systems requiring purchase of cards or use of unique apps. With Apple/Google pay and tap card payment functions should just be able to pay a fare like any other purchase. As in the case in Europe increasingly. With that said, while visiting SF loaded two cards on to my iPhone and was working fine to pay fares on Muni. Then on our last day app wasn’t allowing me to add cash value to either card. Apple wallet loading also wasn’t processing payments. Apple wallet eventually allowed loading more money. Now need to load two cards onto my phone for our kids to ride BART to SFO, but app won’t function to do that either. Meaning I’ll have to pay an extra $6 for two cards for a single use. App also failed to register a single ride over three days on either card even though it deducted the fares. Not sure how you prove you paid if a check is made while riding on a bus or streetcar.

App has stopped working
The idea is great and it’s been working fine until it doesn’t. I’ve been checking information about my clipper cards. But the information is not updating in the app. It’s showing last updated on Aug 25/26 (have more than 1 card). It’s not showing any transactions or activities. It’s not showing the value I added. It was great and could be a 5-star app but it’s stopped working and it’s useless.

Lost me money
This is the worst app I’ve ever used. You’re better off spending the 3 dollars and getting an actual card. User beware give yourself 24 hours to use your credit card to add money. 1) the user interface is so confusing. The amount of steps you need to take to add a credit card so that you can add money to your clipper card is not intuitive at all. 2) after it accepted my information for my Clipper card to add to “my cards” it didn’t show up on my cards. So I went to upload the information again it said my card wasn’t valid (because it thought I already uploaded it). It took a full day for it to show up in my cards. 3) the most infuriating part is that this app lost me money. I used my credit card to add money. When i tapped to exit the station it said insufficient funds because it takes up to 1 day for money to load. So I had to manually add money and the money I previously added on my credit card I won’t get to use cuz who knows when I’ll be back in SF.

Terrible App
App FAQ doesn’t have basic information such as a physical card is not needed and then took several hours to show funds are loaded on the card. App doesn’t specify that each person needs a separate Clipper Card - I loaded a large sum of money on my digital card thinking the whole family could use my card. Wrong - we were rebuffed upon loading in (and there wasn’t a way to purchase physical cards at our destination for our ride home). The app doesn’t seem to have a depart/arrive schedule easily available so we have to constantly pop out to the website for Golden Gate Ferry. Who made this app and who approved it!?!

Clipper Discount
The new service of Clipper Discount Card is excellent and perfect in design and service. The card is convenient to manipulate online and easy to take care of itself. The customer service is excellent and professional and I would definitely highly recommend and would give a five stars rating for its quality, reliability and customer service experience. Thank you for the Clipper services and products.

What a waste!
This is the worst excuse for an app I have ever encountered! I gave it 1 star & that is being extremely generous. Getting it 2 tag was worse that going 2 the dentist!! I was assured, Clipper customer service, that once I tagged successfully my pending cash value loads would be added to my account automatically. That didn’t happen & my $25 load ended up expiring! That’s unacceptable in the least! Now I’m going to have to argue w/ Clipper management to get my funds reimbursed. That will be an ALL DAY EVENT I’m sure. If I were U, & I’m not, I would avoid this app like its an incurable disease or worse!! But if U decide to venture forward & get the app, “May the Gods be w/ U & my heaven have mercy on u’re soul - Aman!

Terrible App
This is a terrible app. Where do I start. First is that it’s not interconnected to other travel apps like Caltrain. I buy a Caltrain ticket but doesn’t show on clipper. Clipper doesn’t notify you that you’ve paid at the time of purchase or that you have a ticket ready. Instead they have this stupid tagging in and off that you only see but not understandable. I wish with all the money that is spent on this public transportation that they would make it user friendly. Then after spending numerous calls to the organization they still don’t have any effective way of confirming your status. Unbelievable

Day pass
I don’t understand why I cannot use my Clipper card for a day pass? I know I only save like $.50 round-trip but that $.50 is a lot when you’re on a fixed income and when you put money on your Clipper card and can’t use it for a day pass that’s money wasted and I’ve had to pay cash the last two times. Your app leaves a lot to be desired your phone system is only open during 9 to 5 business hours and there’s no one to contact. I asked the lady at the BART station why I couldn’t use my card on the bus for a day pass and she says you can’t you cannot use your Clipper card to get a day pass. Smh

Kinda ridiculous.
I guess i can think ahead of time but 20 minutes before i tried loading funds so i can take my bus to work and the app never ended up loading for adding cash value, it just stayed stuck on loading for 20 minutes and i had no cash on me at the time (which also kills the entire point of digitally doing it) and all the while missed my bus. And no it wasn’t my wifi because everything else was working completely 100% fine and i had restarted my phone and everything. Not a professional app maker but this app is just developed like complete crap.

Very Poor App
This app is the worst. I’m download it for my visit to the Bay Area after putting money on it I see all these bad reviews. So I got a physical card thinking I can use the card. An I should be able to use the card and maybe manage it from the app. At no point adding the card to the app it says it will deactivate the physical card. This app is junk why can’t you have a physical card and just manage it from the app like adding money or passes to it. Come on I thought San Francisco had better programmer’s than this. ***** WARNING ***** Definitely do a search before you do anything on this app. It the worst

Only a Transit agency could mess up Wallet.
After following instructions to add a physical card to Apple Wallet and getting nowhere I thought I’d try the app. The app will let you add a card to Apple Wallet. Unfortunately it’s a new card, with a new balance! Only a transit agency would think its users wanted to own multiple cards with multiple balances instead of accessing a single account in the most convenient way. Adding a credit card, a coffee shop card, a pharmacy card, or a retail store card to Apple Wallet does not create a new account... but the folks at Clipper will!

Great idea poorly implemented
I would not recommend using the app. If anything happens to your phone for example it is broken or needs to be replaced clipper will not refund the amount on the prior card and they charge $3.00 to obtain a new card or $5.00 to transfer the balance. It’s ridiculous that one has to pay fees to obtain their funds back. I would NOT recommend using the virtual card. ALWAYS use a physical card until clipper updates it’s policies on reimbursements and provides customer service training to its staff

Impossible to get working
The app needs a third party sugar daddy (Apple Wallet) after having my bank account, personal info and still wants to use another app. I wish the app would just take my Money and work instead of fumbling with Apple Pay. One week, hours later and still no Clipper card that works on my phone. No one can explain how to get it to work, at BART or the drivers. No step by step instructions. No clear language saying you will have to have an apple wallet if you want this to work. It’s all kind of unclear app developer marketing speak. Great idea but it needs work.

Terrible for blind users
The developers didn't test this app with VoiceOver and it is an appalling experience as a blind user. Just a lazily designed app done in React rather than being built natively, so a lot of core accessibility features are missing that would make the overall experience usable and actually accessible. Interface clutter, unhidden graphics and icons everywhere, very badly labeled tabs and buttons, getting transit info and directions is an absolute nightmare, just awful all around. Stop disregarding the blind user experience and stop releasing apps where accessibility is such a gross afterthought.

Is allright
Honestly had no trouble until for some reason it just started loading endlessly. One time I left it open the entire night just to see if I can get it to load so I can use my commuter card from work to add money but sadly nothing. The circle was still spinning I have 5g unlimited data and the 2nd rear plan for Xfinity Wi-Fi. Not sure what kinda bug it is but I’m stuck with just adding money from my bank account instead of the free stipend I get from work. Till it fixes won’t change my rating

Better instruction on the app and better customer service representative
The app shows that if you add money in the clipper app to your Apple wallet in either the app or in your wallet that you will be able to gain access to those funds right away. But apparently that’s not correct according to the rude customer service representative I spoke with. So if the money is not available to be use from the app to your wallet right away and there’s a card being mailed to your house you should probably let the customer know in the app and not say that it’s available right away.

The Clipper app is really efficient
I really enjoy using the Clipper app, especially taking time to add my favorite stations in places to go because it saves time and makes mapping out my journey very easy. I am a person with mobility issues and it’s important for me to plan out my routes, and to be aware of anyclosures or delays. I really like this app. It’s very helpful for me.

Horrible UI
Honestly, the UI on this app is absolutely ridiculous, especially for 2023. Trying to add a payment to your card is a slow process and it’s super annoying. I’ve had a payment “processing” for over a week? You can’t see your clipper card or use it from the app. The engineering and product teams need to work together ASAP to find a better solution. Many tranist providers are beginning to switch to only using clipper card. If I can’t pay using the ONLY option that’s available then what’s the point of this service/product?

Defective app. Do Not Store in apple wallet.
transferred my card to apple wallet. seems simple enough just had to place the phone near the card. transfer went through. BUT for whatever reason the card disappeared from my apple wallet. called and the agent said he can’t help me if i can’t retrieve the a ‘previous’ card from the wallet. so basically the remaining balance i have in my card is lost. granted it’s a small amount but I hipe this serves as a warning for others and learn from my experience. i dont use bart that often anyway so i guess i’ll stick to paper tickets.
