The app is down for account service maintenance im the middle of the day but I can’t find any social media or communication that tells time period it’s down. Very strange.
This app Is amazing and a blessing will save you money if you have a rental car
This app is awesome was driving In Dallas went through two tolls trying to avoid them . Sometimes the tolls can sneak up on you when your in a rush lol. If your visiting the area make sure you download this app before hand load some money up and put license plate information a day before or call customer service , and they can help you set it up . Recommend it , it’s better then paying your car rental an extra fee or them mailing you and charging you extra .Glad I had a family member to suggest to call customer service would have never known about this app if the customer service rep never told me about it.
When you try to log in online, the website tells you to log in through the HCTRA app. When you try to go through the HCTRA app, it forces you to log in with the EZTag Express app. When you try to log in with the EZTag Express app, it doesn’t work - the app starts trying to enroll a prepaid vehicle. You can’t cancel out of that set up process. So basically, there is no way to see your account information. It’s just one big frustrating loop. Don’t bother calling - they don’t really care and can’t help you anyway except to reset your password, which is pointless when you can’t get past the login screen on any of these platforms. Sadly, the quality of the apps is matched only by the service you receive. If this were a competitive market, I would have ditched HCTRA EZTag long ago.
This would avoid invoking the $5/day fee from the rental companies to put toll fees on their tab. The expiration limit is a great feature to have as well, just limit to the time you would need to return the rental and you will not pay any extra afterwards Simple, easy and quick!
Date expires with no warning, don’t care about violations
We signed up for it and we thought all was good, we got several violations in the mail because apparently you have to choose the dates when it works, which is totally stupid. Why would I want days it doesn’t work? We got hit with 100 dollars in violations in 3 days of use, and when I called, the workers could care less that the dates expired and I didn’t receive any kind of warning before expecting it to work as advertised. PS, it says nothing about dates in the summary when downloading the app.
This is possibly the most ridiculous accounting system ever. I got an email that my credit card was expiring. the next day I tried to login and they had suspended my account. You can’t pay your bill without calling them and talking to them during business hours because as soon as your account goes negative they disable it you can’t reconcile it unless you talk during business hours. It’s almost like they want to pay postage and send you snail mail.
I have read those negative reviews and was hopeless. However this app was live up to its promise and provide you a hassle free toll road experience. I used it on a rental and worked like a charm. Yes, the transactions are not instantaneous but they have no claim to do that. This is America, don’t expect your infrastructure or government transactions be speedy.
So happy to have an option to avoid the extortionate rates the rental companies charge for tolls. Expiration function is key! Only feedback for improvement would be to remove the need to pay in increments of $5 and just charge the actual toll amounts.
This app worked well at first, but for about the last year when I have gone through an EZTAG lane the system does not recognize my license plate, and I ended up with a bill. My account is funded, my license plate number is listed in my account as active, but for some reason this system is not working. It’s very frustrating. Last time I called to take care of the bills I was told the issue was fixed, but I just got another bill.
I set up my account via the webpage. Got my tag, activated it. The info that came with the tag said their was a phone app that you can use. I downloaded one, it acted like I had no account and tried to order me ANOTHER tag. I backed out of that transaction, found the express app, downloaded it, then got the same crap, tried to open up a new account and charge me for a new tag!! Totally WORTHLESS app!!
The app does not work when you attempt to log in. It’s kicks you out and always tells you that your session is expired. I noticed it does this more every time it wants to auto reload your account with money. When you get close to the $10 mark the app goes to crap. The worst experience ever from an app and I’m sure the makers don’t care. Crap on the little guy once again. MarkSesh1
Establishing an account was easy and my tolls in Houston showed up after a couple of days. That delay is the only reason I didn’t give five stars. It’s unnerving not knowing when the tolls will show up. But, they did. Next time I’d trust the app.
Every time I access the app either I can’t log in or I get in and have issues. With ONE single attempt at logging in and it fails for whatever reason, it’ll lock my account for 1 hour stating there’s been multiple account errors. Once I am able to log in if the app can’t retrieve my information it’ll do the exact same thing again. I can’t even do anything! Worst app ever.
As mentioned by others your vehicle will be inactive for no reason and you WILL be fined. If you can remember to check your app before driving if you don’t use everyday then it will work for you. Love how you can’t add secure passwords given the fact that special characters (#%*!?, ect) are prohibited. Only letters and numbers are allowed???, that sounds like a great idea for passwords! HCTRA can you please fix these things???
I’ve used this successfully in the past to add vehicles but now I’m looking at pay by mail fees because for several days in a row, I can’t even get to the screen. Just get message that it is under maintenance. Refresh doesn’t work. In the past, I’ve updated and it fixed the problem but not now.
This app didn’t work ,I downloaded it because i only needed it one time ,it keeps saying I still have those 10 bucks available that I started with,i passed trough couple of tolls and i don’t see any transactions in my acc or bank acc so now I’m expecting a bill which is the one thing I was trying to avoid.
Don’t do what I did and use this app because you only take toll roads a few times a year to the airport. Vehicle expired with no notice via push notification, email, or conventional mail. I had plenty money in my account to pay for my use of toll roads and STILL received toll violation invoices. Complete headache to use and will likely cost me hundreds in fines for $10 of tolls I HAD ALREADY PAID FOR. Absolute scam of a system. App also has horrible, unintuitive UI and looks like a fifth grader who just learned Swift made it. I’d give it 0 stars if I could. This developer and the entire toll road authority are a complete farce. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
I’m currently using the app. I have been driving tolls for 7 days in Texas and it doesn’t take any money. When I’ve called customer service several times and all of them said different things, they didn’t know why it happened and told me to wait up to 120 days to see what happens. NO HELP AT ALL
I have a veterans plate issued by the state of Tennessee and your app won’t allow me to get past page two because it demands that I enter a valid plate number. I assure you, it is quite valid. It is a non standard number. Four numbers and two letters. How am I supposed to use the app if it isn’t allowing me to proceed?
Buyer Beware: EZTAG Express accounts have expiration dates. This means that unless you go into your account settings and renew, you will have toll violations. Still have money in your account? Doesn’t matter, you’ll still receive violations. Want your money refunded from your account? Sure, but it’s a huge hassle. Shame on you, EZTAG. And shame on you too, app creator.
App still down. Will take my money when it’s time to add money, but I can’t change vehicles. Called help line and was told app is down but being worked on…my wife’s app still works. I think it’s an attempt to get everyone to go to the new app…sad!
Overall, it’s a fantastic app that offers a great alternative to the EZTAG sticker. It’s easy to use and makes managing my account close to effortless. Thank you!
It won’t log in keeps saying it’s under maintenance called the number y’all said to call on the app and they are even saying due to maintenance we can’t pay with them either Yall need to get it together before I have to pay a fine
I can’t make a payment. App freezes up. Been trying it for more than a week now. Had this for several years now , just started having this problem. Have to drive the long way around town. Horrible app!
Worked when I first signed up last year. Out of nowhere, the app now decides the card thats been working fine for 11 months is no longer valid. Tried 3 of my other cards and same error message “-1140” / Super helpful.
The app keeps kicking me out. It doesn’t let me view my toll information, as soon as I try to view it kicks me out. This needs to be fixed, I can’t view my information online because this is only an app thing so I stuck.
I can’t update my payment. I can’t login on safari because it pushes you back to the app which does not work. All that money in tolls and you can’t pay for a developer to create a usable app.
The app ALWAYS tells me to update my payment method, and I have done that like 3 or 4 time already. It is a bit annoying, so you should fix these types of issues; it does not make sense…
I’m not sure what’s going with the app but it hasn’t been working. It’s saying it’s under maintenance but it’s been like that for days now. Not sure what’s going on but I hope it gets fixed.
This app is unreliable and stupid. I’ve passed through the tolls with the app and still have received invoices in the mail, you’re better off avoiding the toll or just getting a physical tag this app is a waste of time
This app works when it wants to..which is rarely. I keep getting signed out and have a hard time signing back in. What is the purpose of this app besides giving me a headache?
What happened to easy, convenient? Was there a bad update?
I’ve been using this app for a couple of years and it’s been user friendly, easy to use and convenient. Now, I’ve received toll violations I wasn’t aware of so I try logging on and my vehicle is no longer register in app. I have money in account but no vehicle listen. I put vehicle info in, and the app closes. I return to app and now I can’t access at all.
Won’t work outside of Houston. Won’t recognize if your plate has 0 or O. Refunds will take 45 days. Customer service rude and not willing to solve your issues. Get the Decal instead.
After downloading and attempting to log in for the first time, I get an error message “you are trying to log into an EZ tag acct, please go to the app to log in” 🤦🏽♀️😤

Do not bother wasting your time with this trash app. The app is inoperable more times than not. Incompetence of government fully illustrated with this app.

please see robert half or some other tech company for a 6 month contract to revamp your app, do not use ppl in house, conflict of interest...come on harris county, hire ppl third party who have app experience...
Tried setting up myself, but took a 20 minute call to the toll authority to get my account set up Probably happened because I partially set up my account, didn’t put in a credit card, then when tried to go back in a few days later the system was totally confused. Card was charged 6 times in the course of setting up my account when it should have been charged once. System was recently down for maintenance (according to the mobile web site), but the app just said “General-Exception”. App needs to be improved to allow creation of an account without inputting a plate number (I wanted to set up an account prior to arrival in the area) Had numerous issues simply entering a plate number and getting it accepted. If you enter a date in the future for your plate as the start date, the app becomes confused and doesn’t show you have a vehicle on the account. Took a couple more calls to HCTRA to take care of that. They said I had a plate on the account, but app didn’t show it. The app is down for maintenance too much to be useful. It seems to be down every evening and most Sundays. It takes many days for tolls to show in the app. With a state of the art video system, why shouldn’t this be within the hour or even the same day? Take some time to think about your use cases, and improve the app experience so the app is actually useful. For now this app is absolutely terrible and is a poor reflection on Houston for visitors.
I had no trouble setting it up. Entered my rental car license plate and within a couple of days or so each transaction was processed. Word of advice - deactivate the rental car or else you’ll be unwittingly ‘paying it forward’ until you remove the vehicle from your account - which is easy to do if you know to do it.
