The App that replaced all of my other financial Apps!!! (NOT JOKING!!)
This App, is for EVERYONE, that want to learn more about their financial situation and the potential financial situation of our economy. It breaks down everything to an understanding that anyone can comprehend, from a basic checking account to advanced investment strategies to borrowing a little extra cash or a lump sum M1 undoubtedly leaps and bounds above its competitors! I had them all and I was tempted to list them, but that’s a a waste of time and time I could be using on M1 to advance, grow and learn more about my financial options and opportunities. Try M1, just once, and then I invite ANYONE to prove me wrong anywhere about this App’s capability to prove at this high level in which I claim. My passion is real, my wife Emily is a health care worker at NCH (Naples Community Hospital) and she worked on the Covid-19 intake floor and contracted the Covid-19 Virus from one of the other healthcare workers or a patient in that floor, we don’t know? But she’s been sent home from work from NCH (Naples Community Hospital) WITH WHATS CALLED TLP(Temporary Leave Pay) which is almost half of what she was making!!!! And then as soon as her leave is up, she goes back into work, AND GETS FIRED AS A WELCOME BACK GIFT!!! M1 has allowed us to borrow some very much needed cash in this hard time of injustice! Thanks again M1 and you have life long clients!!!!!

Best App for Path to Financial Freedom
M1 finance outperforms every other brokerage/brokerage app by a long shot. I have used/currently use Robinhood, Fidelity, and Acorns. M1 is the clear winner in terms of wealth growth. The “pie” concept is the most efficient and ingenious idea for investing. They have made this simple. Another aspect that sets M1 apart is their “borrow” feature. I am a gold member on their service (I got it at $75 for the first year, normally $125 a year). For me, the borrow feature has provided me the means to make a down payment on my car without withdrawing from my investments. Borrow also allows the user to receive cash without the liquidation of your investment account and it allows my investments to keep growing. Borrow for Gold members is at a cool 2% interest rate (cheap money). My money is starting to compound and the scale they use (total account value) allows the user to have a visualization of the “8th wonder of the world” (compounding). I’m only 21 and the future is bright thanks to tools like M1. This app is beautiful offspring of a capitalistic society and this app will be the reason for many future millionaires. Keep up the great work.. All it needs is real human reps to call for costumer service!

Great! But not living up to potential...
Love the entire concept. As a professional investor and trader who spends most of my time on professional applications like a Bloomberg terminal, I don’t expect much from an app like M1. But the whole idea of creating unique portfolios of unique portfolios with the ability to rebalance one or all pies allows for tremendous experimentation and idea validation; HOWEVER, the return / performance tracking functionality leaves much to be desired. M1, I beg you to add just a couple features and this would be so much more useful as an application investors could rely on: - allow us the ability select the dates for custom return periods - allow us the ability to add a benchmark (or more) to the return graphics - let us see our accounts on a individual OR consolidated basis - include some kind of measure of risk such as standard deviation or beta to a benchmark to see if we are creating and generating efficient portfolios and returns (not accepting higher beta) Update: positive changes are underway, the new Home Screen is great way to see consolidated account information! For the love of god, at least make the account performance periods the same as the performance periods in the ‘Research’ section; it’s ridiculous to only show trailing (day, month, quarter, year) performance for portfolios, yet show 1day, 1w, 1m, 6m, YTD, etc… how are we supposed to benchmark or compare performance this way?!

Great Update & App 👍🏾👍🏾
This was a VERY needed update for the app!! Dark Mode along with the other needed tweaks to the UI made this app a lot more useful. I’ve been an active investor for over 20+ years and using this app for almost a year now. In the beginning (like others have mentioned) I’ve found setting up and investing with M1 hard to comprehend. But after continuous use, I came to understand it’s more like investing in your own self-directed Mutual Fund then any other investing/ brokerage app. During setup you’re asked to create a pie made up from slices of Stocks and ETFs you’ll like to own. Then simply fund the pie. This allows M1 to do ALL the hard work in keeping your portfolio/ pie balanced. Applying more funds to your undervalued stocks/ ETFs then the overvalued ones. A super easy way to just Set and Forget. But if you’re more of a hands-on type of investor, it still gives you the ability to Buy & Sell the individual slices/shares of your pie. A truly great concept! The one thing I do wish they would add is the ability to transfer smaller amounts within the accounts from my Savings pot ($10 minimum to transfer). This would be very useful for Stocks and/or ETFs which dividends have a deposit only less than a $1 (minimum amount to invest).

Very limited buy/sell window
I like M1 because I can make a pie or pies and invest as I want to, however, I hate the buying limitations. You can only buy or sell twice a day at the specific times. I think buying and selling should flexible. I hate buying at the highs of the day, especially during these volatile markets. I feel like more than 90% of the time market is at highest/lowest at 9:30am and 3pm. And everytime i add money I see I bought at the peak of the day. I know as a long term investor it shouldn’t matter much. But it hurts and annoying to see that you paid the top dollar on your buys all the time. For example, today TTD was traded at $660 at 9:30am and 3pm however, it was trading at $560 at 11am. I wish I could buy some shares at 11am at $100 lower price just like many others. Tsla is the same $630 at 9:30 but at around 11am it was $539 but no way to scoop some shares at that low with M1. That is really frustrating part of this app and hinders me to bring all of my assets over to M1. I wish we could have buy/sell time flexibility, even you are just limited to do once or twice a day but flexibility on when you want to buy/sell. That is the biggest problem I have with M1. I hope M1 will fix this issue and I’d bring more assets and more cash into app if they do and it would be my ultimate investment platform.

There’s a bug in the app
Currently, M1Finance has a bug that does not allow any user to edit holdings in pies if the amount of holdings goes over 100. This is a game changer, as you will not have access to any of your money until they fix it. I transferred my shares from one brokerage to M1 and this bug has stopped me from adding all the holdings I already have. So now my account has been on hold for over 2 MONTHS now. No access to my own money. Not good. Fix this. Update: A recent merger required all investors a certain amount of shares under a different ticker symbol. However, all notifications in M1 finance say that the new shares will be acquired automatically. This is not true. I noticed the new shares where liquidated from the account. Contacted support and of course a generic response was given with no answers. The thing is I tried to add the new ticker to the portfolio before the shares where liquidated but the app did not show the new ticker to add. So I assumed it would be automatic. It wasn’t. They screwed up the merger due to the way their Pie system automatically operates.

Horrible customer service theres slightly 1 out of 100 to get customer support on the phone,I finally after a whole week of transferring my account from another firm wich i had changed my mind and send numerous emails since they didnt answer to cancel the transfer they emailed me back stating they would cancel my request,1 they provided no help no information theres no one on top of them to talk to and she sounded very unprofessional to where my money was it wasn't in my bank or on m1 portafolio either her answer was :” ahhh you should have it tomorrow ...maybe... if not you could call back tomorrow?” I was really frustrated at this point i havnt seen my money in neither account for 4 days until finally after the 6 days just to be unavailable to withdrawal or trade, my account is frozen, after 3 days they emailed me stating they needed documents that that account was mine to verify... i sent out documents and nothing 2 days later i get email that the documents i provided weren’t proof to verify they needed the last statement of the account??? 14 days have gone but with my money going from disappeared to frozen account i sent them emails that i just want liquidate and close account and still nothing! DO NOT TRUST THIS APP IM STILL HOPING I COULD GET MY MONEY BACK UP TO NOW, I REGRET EVER DOWNLOADING IT FURTHER MORE HAVING EVEN THOUGHT OF TRANSFERRING!

Re-Review
I had to. Well, I chose to pull my review down. Nothing to do with M1 everything to do with Google. I understand. I am with Apple again.! : ) !! Still get this thing five stars. I haven’t read any reviews, but I would like to see if there’s any bad ones because if they are they’re full of it! It’s supposed to be a long-term investment option that you can set up to do manually or electronically. customer service is great. Security with them is great! I had to leave a couple Apps because of security. Plus you could buy the crowned Kings or Queens of crypto as I call them. Plus there’s no extra fee for OTC that they offer and that includes grayscale. By the way, Did I say security and there customer service is Awesome?! I will review (share my opinion ) again as they keep making the investment/trading experience even better! (one thing I wish they would add and maybe I have overlooked it as I had so many issues with Google) .Adding a note feature in app. I know I have an Apple phone. I still would like to keep it in the app ?!

Almost Perfect Platform
I have used different investment platforms and I have to say, M1 is probably one of the best. The user interface is very easy to use and is well organized. The pie concept makes my kind of investing very easy. Now the drawbacks, in my opinion. I do not like how I cannot remove a slice from a pie without selling the entire position. I wish M1 would allow us to remove a position from a pie and put it in a type of holding space. I have my metrics that I use to evaluate a company and when they no longer meet my criteria I stop investing new money into it but I also don’t want to sell as they may in the future meet my criteria again and at that time I would like to invest new money again. Also, M1 doesn’t allow you to reconfigure a slice from one pie and move it to another without closing and opening a new position in that pie. For me, if M1 could make those two things happen, not only would I probably upgrade my account but I would definitely give them 5 stars and the official title as best investment platform.

Auto Investment, Excellent Service, Good App
Summary: There isn’t anything out there better for automatic investments and Wealth Building in individual stocks. The best was ShareBuilder, it died in the arms of E*Trade. This is the best now, and has many advantages over ShareBuilder. The app is really pretty good for managing your investments. You have to learn the terminology “pies” and what it means for how your money is invested. You control the $, you control the pie (% per stock in portfolio) but your money is auto-invested based upon what you have setup as the pie. Underweight stocks get more $ when you add money. Once you understand that, your investments go on autopilot. Specify a certainly weekly amount to be deposited, and trades happen automatically, to keep your portfolio in line. Portfolio gets out of whack? Rebalance your pie. Automatically. For free. I have never seen this level of control paired with this level of automation. Not even a 401k, with auto investments, compares. Rebalancing there is an awful, manual process (vanguard, fidelity, wherever). I highly recommend this app.

Good Concept Poorly Implemented
The M1 platform is so poorly designed, and simply not a good option for most people. It is a platform for the beginner PASSIVE investor that doesn’t manage their portfolio at all, or plan to make any changes over time. For example, if I have some stocks in a pie, but then later decide I want to create another pie (e.g. Tech pie, or an ETF pie) and I want to move stocks that I already own to the new pie, I CAN’T DO IT!!! Impossible from their platform. You have to sell your stock and then repurchase it from within the new pie. HOW UTTERLY STUPID!!! Also, when you want to sell stocks you have to manually go into the pie slice and manually type in the current value of the slice, which is going to change by the time the slice sells because they only conduct trades once per day. So what is the point of manually typing in a price that is going to change by sell time? Again, UTTERLY STUPID. Just add a friggin SELL button for pete’s sake. But then after you sell the stock, the slice doesn’t just disappear, you now have to go back into the pie and delete the slice AND also rebalance the pie. What a pain in the neck. So much work to do one little thing and just plain stupid! The pie concept is great, but the M1 platform is lousy. Just don’t bother because its too much headache.

Love M1 Finance
I use 4 different brokerages; E*TRADE, Stash, acorns and M1. The bulk of my long term investments is in M1. It’s a great way to diversify your portfolio a lot to do with fraction trades. You start off with one big portfolio that uses a pie formula. You can purchase single stocks there or do what I did and make smaller portfolios inside the main one. This makes funding your stocks really easy. You and put x amount into your portfolio and M1 will divide it up equally based on the percentage you declared for each slice in that portfolio. You can make small portfolios inside your main portfolio and just choose to fund that one slice of the pie. And lastly you can buy as much of one investment as you want, it’ll just out weigh your pie. You can then choose to rebalance your pie at anytime and M1 will do the trades for you to make each slice equal to 100 percent of your pie. I like their system a lot because it helps you spread out your money over numerous investments very easy and you don’t have to worry about buying investments in whole.

Transfers take way too long
The app is cool, I think it makes it easy to invest and create diversification. The premade pies make things very simple. My only problem is the amount of time it take for transfers to go through between my bank. I have several apps to invest in and m1 is by far the longest. Sometimes I want to transfer from my m1 when money is a little tight but it usually takes so long it’s already past the point of helping. Almost everytime it takes longer than a week. Why??? I don’t know. I could understand a situation like this 1. I initiate the transfer to go my bank. 2 the next buisness day needs to sell off the investments for that amount 3. Make the transfer 4. Possibly a fourth day to collect the funds at the bank. But anything longer than this process doesn’t make sense to me. I started a transfer last Tuesday for instance, it’s Tuesday again today and the transfer is still pending. I don’t know why it takes so long but that needs to be fixed, nothing ever takes this long to process when it has to do with money. It’s money that’s not being invested+can’t be used so it’s just sitting there.

M1 customer service was impressive
I just waited 16 days before I cancelled the transfer order trying to get my money into my bank account from my investment account with M1. Seems like everybody can take your money quickly but it’s very slow putting it back. I canceled that 16 day transfer and initiated another for $2000 to go into my bank from M1 invest.I don’t know what the problem is but I I really enjoyed using my M1 count but I’m starting to get leery because I cannot get my money when I want it. UPDATE: Customer service responded within 1 day and resolved the issue.I had added a different bank account to my M1 account. There was a mixup since I had a transfer pending and canceled it to the old bank account. Long story short it was my mistake and they promptly researched it and I have my money. I give M1 finance five stars so far. I’ve been using them since May and have had no issues prior to this at all. And this issue actually was my oversight.

Beware! Thieves!
So I started an Roth IRA account not knowing that when I liquidate it wild cost me $100 no matter the account size. Anytime you are to liquidate your account(s) they will charge you $100 so this app really isn’t free and doesn’t provide you with a sense of security because I did not know about this $100 fee until I tired to liquidate everything from my IRA account I started with them so I could consolidate to my Fidelity account which is where most of my money is. I do not find this to be fair and it was not disclosed to me when I signed up so I liquidated my IRA and my regular accounts that I had with them and I will never do business with these crooks ever again. I just lost $100 from my IRA because I choose to consolidate my IRA accounts. On top of that, they would not let me withdraw my money as a IRA rollover. They said I had to choose “premature” and they would change it on their end so I don’t get taxed. I doubt they would do that because once a liar always a liar. I have reached out to them many times about this policy because not even bigger company’s like TD or Fidelity will charge you a fee for liquidating your account so why should this small no name company charge me $100? Stay away from them. They are crooks and unless they give me back my $100 this review will remain.

Worst customer support EVER!
The idea and app itself worked well for me and I was pretty happy with that. Until month ago when I moved to another house- that’s where all the problems appeared. People move from place to place sometimes, right? Not a big deal, right? But not for M1 Support. They froze my account cause my bank now connected with my new address and they got old one in the system. I sent them proof of my new address, ID card, they asked for recent bank statement- all sent, simple deal to change the data and unfreeze it! Not for that company guys. 3 WEEKS I’m trying to reach customer support. 3(!!!!) weeks they simply don’t answer my messages, I sent about dozen of them- ZERO response!!! Can you believe in it in 2021? They spent so much money for advertising EVERYWHERE, but don’t want to spend a penny to improve they’re terrible support. That’s a wrong idea- you’ll gonna loose your old clients. Right now I’m transferring my account somewhere else. People, AVOID this company, it may seem legit but as soon as you got in situation where you need support or any kind of action you’ll feel forgotten. Shop around for something else. P.S. sort reviews by “most recent” and you’ll see how they fall down- only disappointment.

IT’S BUGGY of LATE
It started out kinda bumpy but got things fairly sorted out and lately it seems to be working except, it recently started opening to a blank screen - white box absent content. Running on iPad Pro 12.9” that’s up to date. Rebooting iPad may or may not resolve the problem as it reoccurs for no apparent reason. This is somewhat troubling for a finance application - there is no update available on the App Store. I like the app except its kinda clumsy and GUI needs improvements. Also, recently tried linking DivTracker Ultimate with Auto Portfolio import using Plaid that goes well up until Plaid gets to the linked institutional account but then craps out with an error report that the login is all correct but it can’t find the right kind of accounts for the application which is kinda curious because they are the same ones that both Robinhood and M1 were used for setup and operational for authentication and funds transfers so it’s clearly not an institutional side problem vs Plaid, M1 or DivTracker… though DivTracker works. After all the glowing app reviews it’s disappointing to suddenly have undocumented “features” dropping like a pesky fly in the ointment.

Good option for any level of investing
Relatively new to using this app but so far so good. I can see this being a good option for experts, newer investors and anyone in between! Creating and editing your portfolio via "pies" works well, and pretty easy to edit the slices. The fact that you can add curated mixes to the pie is quite useful too- glad I found a mix that works fantastic as part of my strategy instead of working against the rest of my portfolio. Rebalancing is a breeze as well with just the click of a button. Another thing I appreciate is that this company shares data with another app I use to monitor my net worth along unlike a certain other app that became infamous recently... One caveat to consider is that initial purchases need to buy at least $1 per position or else the transaction gets skipped. That may cause some weird weight issues if you selected a bunch of slices for your portfolio like I did in the beginning. I'm also unable to apply for the spend feature at this time since I registered for M1 at a different address than my bank statement says, but I have no doubt that it can be fixed. Despite those issues I enjoy using this app as part of my investing journey. If you are looking for one single app for investing and leaning towards choosing your own stocks and etfs, M1 is a solid choice!

Wonderful platform with areas for improvement
M1 is truly a great platform with a great mission and plenty of successes to show in their first few years of infancy. They have all of the services you could want to qualify them as a “super app”. Their customer service is great. The app and website have a wonderful UI/UX. But, there are some ways they could improve. Some areas for improvement: - More data! A dedicated data analytics page would be nice since a lot of M1 customers are dividend-focused. It would be nice to see graphs, charts, and tables with information on dividends specifically. I currently use a separate platform to track news and dividends because this is lacking in M1. It would also be helpful to see more data on the individual stock/fund page. More information about companies and funds would be nice. - Better research page! This could go hand in hand with additional data (maybe a separate analytics page or one that’s integrated into the research page) and would further improve the UX and keep customers in the app for longer. - Customization! With this new homepage, most of the new overview sections are just empty since I currently only take advantage of M1 Invest. It would be nice to hide the cards of the products currently not in use. Overall, I’m very happy to be using M1 and am excited to see how they grow their products and services even more. I can see they are in good hands with their leadership.

My problem goes beyond just the app.
I don’t like the “pie” and “Slice“… I should easily be able to buy and sell shares, FaceTime a dollar amount or a share amount… instead this program runs off percentages and is not really easy to track and follow. The app/program was recommended by a friend who likes it but it’s just not my cuppa tea so far, I’m going to keep playing with it, but if it is this annoying all the time then I’ll just dump this account. Please note that this is just my opinion it was very easy to set up and they do seem to have some really cool features I just do not like percentages I should be able to do exact dollar minutes when I buy and sell some thing and then it should calculate the rest… For a quick example of what I want. Let’s say I want to sell $150 worth of shares and then it automatically sells those shares that I’ve selected to equal $150 or a little more because of price differences, brokerage fees, etc. that is all I’m asking for… i’ve watched multiple rounds of training videos and can’t seem to figure out if there’s a way to do that.

Stop Pushing Users To Take On Margin Debt
With the original concept of of pies, slices and limited trading windows, M1 promoted themselves as the platform for long-term investors not speculators. One of the latest UI updates puts the maximum margin amount you're qualified for right next to your cash balance in colorful text, strongly encouraging the use of taking on large amounts of margin debt. Additionally, if you don't have any cash in your account, the main call to action button strongly suggests that you simply click one more time to "Borrow and buy"...which is something very few investors should do if they want to build consistent wealth over time. The smart people who work at M1 know that this is irresponsible and shouldn't be putting their profitability over the safety of their users' life savings. You shouldn't have to be careful to not accidentally take on margin debt or automatically be opted-in to a crazy user experience flow (that can't be disabled in settings) that strongly implies this is something most users should care about and do. To quote another user on Reddit, "Do not use margin debt. M1 has become everything they set out not to be."

Be warned, this can’t do all banking
FYI for all users looking for a one stop shop for your banking, this one won’t cut it. They have an excellent interest rate on the spend account if you’re willing to pay the annual fee. But don’t move all your money there if you need it in a pinch. This week I closed on a refi for my primary residence and needed to wire funds for the closing. M1 support told me they could do it and then wouldn’t do it. The said they require a Letter of Acceptance from the title agency for me to transfer funds. My Title Agency operates nationally and had never been asked for this before. Customer support is severely lacking at these startup financial institutions, taking a half hour just to get on the phone with someone that doesn’t even know what they’re talking about. After being put on hold three times so they could confer with the Brokerage Team, I was told they would wire the funds only later to find out the Brokerage team wouldn’t do it. Thank goodness they aren’t my only bank. I’ll never consider M1 as a one stop shop for banking because they can meet my expectations.

Best Investing Platform To-Date
M1 Finance is a pioneer when it comes to LONGTERM investing. If you’re looking for high frequency trading, look elsewhere. M1 Finance has been the primary brokerage for me for the past year, and I’ve actually transferred all my taxable and IRA accounts over to this brokerage. I’m confident they will only improve from here on out and the team is highly involved with their clients. You can witness their commitments in real time if you’re following their Twitter. Customer Service is also very good for a primarily online platform; unlike brokerages like Robinhood which I’ve used and had to wait weeks to get issues resolved. M1 Finance I’ve only had to wait a maximum of 1 business day to get a response. M1+ is a very worthwhile service also if most of your personal finances are done through this platform. 1% Annual interest on a checking account is far better than my Ally Savings account at 0.80% (granted Ally is free). But M1 gives me instant access to two trading windows, instant deposits into cash accounts, and their borrow feature will come in handy one day with their super low rates whenever I need instant cash for a down payment, or need to strike quick on a good investment deal. Also rest assured your cash is safe Bc their Checking account is FDIC insured. I will continue to use and recommend M1 Finance.

Good platform, needs a couple changes
M1 is great for retail investors who can take advantage of buying fractional shares for greater ease in dollar cost averaging. Their spend plus feature offers a competitive interest rate. Borrowing on margin is a nice feature, but not one that is worth taking advantage of under current federal funds rate. Being an M1 plus member offers the ability to trade during 2 trading windows, but only at opening bell and an hour before closing bell. It would be nice to have a third window in the middle of the trading day (even if it meant paying a slightly higher M1 plus subscription cost). One frustrating feature is that M1 seems to pay out less in dividends than what the stock actually pays out. Which I assume is a way for them to make profit given they do not charge a commission for trades, however this unfairly targets investors who invest in dividend players or have large positions in dividend paying investments.

Terrible business
When I first started with M1, I thought the pie idea was great. I put some money in on a weekly basis and watched my totals slowly grow. Then M1 decided to start charging a monthly fee for anyone that has less than $10k in their account. I wasn’t anywhere near that number so I decided to transfer my money out. It took about 2 weeks to get a portion of my stocks transferred, but well over half of it still sat in my account waiting for the transfer to go through. It has now been close to a month. I have reached out to both the company I’m transferring to and M1 to see what the hold is. The new company was available immediately and told me the hold up was on M1’s side. M1 was not available to speak on the weekends so I had to wait until Monday. It took 3 hours on Monday to get a chat response. That response was not detailed and said to contact them in 90 days if the balances were still showing in my account. I immediately asked another question, but it has now been another 3 hours with no answer. I will never do business with or recommend M1 to anyone. This is ridiculous.

Easy, Reliable, Intuitive
A beautifully designed app that lets you invest however much money you want in any stock. Given the ability to purchase fractions of stocks and to rebalance portfolios to reflect your desired weights, this app is my absolute favorite for long-term retail investing. No fees, easy and fast deposits AND withdrawals! For those of you who already tried other no-fee investment platforms, you would know that easy and fast withdrawals are very rare. I must also say that I am very impressed with how reliable customer service is. The M1 team almost always responded to my emails the next day. Rarely they would take two days to get back to me. I never had to wait longer than two days. I am very satisfied with how M1 operates and if it is not evident already, highly recommend this app to all friends who are interested in long-term retail investing.

Great at what it does but lots of room for improvement still
I use my account to invest in a diversified group of ETF from Paul Merriman’s recommendations. The fractional shares and ability to allocate a % to each ETF are such valuable features. Account maintenance is so easy and depositing money is easy because M1 can be setup to do everything automatically. You can tell M1 is growing rapidly as features change frequently. It’s not nearly as polished as the big brokerages, but you can’t create your own “robo advisor” account for FREE at any traditional brokerage without handholding every transaction and running into roadblocks since basically no one else offers fractional shares. I see M1 changing the way other brokers allow investors to trade and at that point they may not provide any further value. I’m hopeful they continue to gain refinement and add features that are common at most brokerages, but what they do offer now is very special and I highly recommend if you are looking for what they do well.

Not easy to set up
I’ve been trying for over two weeks to get started with M1 investing. When I downloaded the M1 app on my iPhone I noticed the content was a little different from what I’ve been seeing on the M1 tutorials and website desktop. I’m new to investing so I choose M1 because it looked user friendly, however the mobile app navigation looks very different, aside from that their is no image of the pie chart anywhere. I’m not sure how to choose slices to make up my portfolio. The mobile app doesn’t give you any detailed information on individual stocks, bonds or other securities to help you set this up. Is there a later version of this app? I even tried to update, but I keep getting the same screen up my app. why isn’t the apps content the same as the website and all it’s tutorials. I really want to use the M1 investing platform but I’m a bit confused by this. I tried contacting support but no one has gotten back to me to explain the issue.

Great App, Great Service
Highly recommend this service for anyone looking to invest their money long-term. The option to invest fractionally in stock is fantastic and makes it easy to enjoy dollar cost averaging in stocks that one couldn’t normally afford as whole shares. You can pretty much build your own stock mutual fund fee-free and adjust at will. Big caveat: Day traders and other folks who are looking to buy and sell at a moment’s notice will be frustrated. You’re going to need to look elsewhere if you want anything immediate in terms of transfers or sale executions. This service is not built for that, and I think a lot of the negative reviews reflect this fact. Being a fee-free service requires some compromise, right? The app could see a few tweaks here and there — such as adding biweekly transfers to match pay cycles and maybe reducing the size of the massive pie chart onscreen since this is a mobile app and not a jumbotron — but overall, I am pleased as punch so far!

Good idea but bad execution
I loved the app in the beginning, even though it took me some time learning the mechanics of the app. I really liked the ability to create pies and fraction share investment. Problem started when I wanted to open a second portfolio because I wanted to create 2 different types of investments- long term and short term. I didn’t want to mix all of my pies in just one portfolio. In order to open my second portfolio I needed to prove my identity. I submitted multiple tickets with my proof, called many times to customer phone number with no answer, left messages, sent emails no answer for 2 weeks. So the fact that there is no real customer support team in such serious business such as investing is a huge red flag. On top of it, it takes them a business day to proses sell/buy orders which is another big problem. The app is free so I can’t complain but there are other free investment apps and companies that better then M1 Finance. Seriously do something about your customer service, this is a huge disadvantage in this company. Switching to Vanguard.

Almost Great
I really like M1. It gives me the flexibility to essentially make my own ETF, and dollar cost average my way into my favorite businesses. I am also a big fan of the long term view that M1 encourages rather than the trading mindset. There are 2 things I wish M1 would have. One is the ability to distribute new deposits evenly among all holdings. This is BY FAR the thing I would most like to see added to the app, and ideally as soon as possible. I would really like to add the same amount of money to all of my positions, but unfortunate this is not possible right now due to auto rebalancing. If even distributions become available, this would enable me to monitor my portfolio much less frequently, as I will not have to tinker with the allocations to keep everything even. The other thing I would like to see is more comprehensive support. There is very limited phone support, but nearly all of support is offered by email. This can be quite frustrating, as it takes a good deal of trust to put my money with M1 since it is a lesser known brokerage, and I would like to be able to have more rapid response. I believe the best way to handle this would be to add in-app chat support, which would likely integrate well with the platform. Aside from these 2 changes, I really like M1 finance, and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a better way to invest.

They will screw you if they can
I liked M1 at first but noticed that when i sold some shares where i would make a profit they took their sweet time - many days - before the sale was registered. When i did something that apparently triggered an undesired sell -which resulted in a major loss (for me) - that stock sale happened extremely fast - within hours in fact. I had tried to change my auto purchase buy order from 4 stocks to three, removing Virgin Galactic from new buys. M1 said this triggered an auto sale of all my owned stock of Virgin Galactic. Im guessing M1 was only too happy to make the sale which resulted in my taking the loss. I wonder if M1 benefited from this bogus unplanned sell. I’m guessing yes. When I inquired about it - i was basically told “oops, sorry. At least you know for next time”.

M1 great beginning
M1 was great in the beginning. No fees! Free trades, good mobile app and website. Trading only once every 24 hours took getting used to. Pie concept works once you understand what it can and cannot do. Have been using them since Feb 2019 and first ticket , they were responsive, within a couple of days. I did not like the answer then but I understood it. Now I have hit a BUG with M1. Something happened when I added a new sub pie to my portfolio. I only have about 60 total slices and every slice at least $2 but I get an error every time I try to change, add, remove a slice. Actually happened to 2 portfolios the same day. I opened a ticket, waited 2 days, no response so I opened another ticket. No response. I have two accounts with them that are both broken/frozen and no hope of it getting better. If they fix this, I could give them 5 stars. This Friday, i will be broken for a week, and will drop to 1 star and ask for refund. Investor beware.

Available Credit
Made a payment in full on M1 credit card from my M1 save account. On 10/2 M1 savings was debited. On 10/4 the M1 credit card was credited. So far so good. However, the credit available remained at the same amount as it was PRIOR to the payment, instead of properly reflecting the payment which had posted. Let me add, the debit from the savings and credit to the credit card accounts were posted transactions NOT pending transactions. Furthermore, both accounts are in-house at M1. Why is the “credit available” not updated in the moment? Having spoken to three levels of customer support, I was told this process would take 3 to 7 business days. What?? On a side note, customer support thought the process was odd. Again, these are posted transactions not pending. My Chase Sapphire Reserve and Citibank Airline card both update in the moment. Meaning, at time of posting “credit in-use” and “credit available” is updated dynamically as charges are posted and payments recorded. M1 on the other hand immediately adjust “credit in-use” but takes days to adjust “credit available”. Which means M1 immediately adjust your “credit in-use”, but conversely takes days to do likewise for “credit available” Why does M1 do this? Float? Restrict available credit on an individual who pays their account in full each month? I really wanted to like this card, but it has simply become a back-up. M1’s processes are dubious at best. Beware.

Unacceptable business practices
They will charge you a $125 fee to use there “Spend” account. There is some interesting benefits but the shortcomings far outweigh any benefit. They randomly blocked my card (not due to fraud, that dept has no record of me even having an account) but for what ever reason they can randomly lock the card and no way to unlock the card until you speak to customer service. This started yesterday and customer service is closed on Good Friday (every other bank is open for business) so by the time my card even has a chance to get unlocked it will be 5 days with no access to funds or to trade in my account. The concept of M1 is interesting but this is not the app/business to execute that plan. Incompetence and unsatisfactory customer experience will be there downfall.

Don’t like it
I don’t like M1. The app is limited and very confusing. You can’t buy full shares - everything is this stupid fractional pie chart. You can’t time buying or selling - they have this stupid one time of day trading and you have zero control on the buying and selling price. Their whole “pie” concept makes very little sense to me - nothing about this app or their operations inspires confidence. I hate the app. It doesn’t make any sense to me. And now my money is trapped inside M1. I sold all of the stock but every attempts to transfer my cash balance back to my personal bank account “fails” after a few days, even though it’s the same linked account that they had no problem transferring my money from. This brokerage seems sketchy. I want my money and it’s being withheld from me. There support is non existent. I’ve been using WeBull for a few months and it’s so much better. I feel like a fool for wasting time with M1 and now I have thousands of dollars trapped inside it and I’m upset and feel mislead, ripped off, and trapped.

Easiest visual long term investing app
I like the service so much, I’ve consolidated other brokerage accounts onto the platform. The visual representation of portfolios as pie charts makes it easier to see my holdings relative to each other and identify holdings that have grown too much. I love the automation for dollar cost averaging, the ability to setup direct deposits from my employers payment system into the M1 spend account, setting up rules to divide that money up between multiple accounts with different strategies, and how holdings that are under my target allocations are funded before other holdings. It gives me a sense that I’m always buying the dip with value averaging. They even let you do research to see how a combination of multiple holdings would have performed over the past five years.

Easy Investing (Please Read)
I put $100 weekly into $AAPL $MSFT $VOO $VTI and it’s very easy. The money is taken out my account automatically and I don’t have to worry about nothing. The reason I really like this app is because I don’t have to buy the full stock. They do partial shares. As I mentioned I put $100 a week so at the end of the month I have $400 invested. It’s builds it’s value. My honest opinions (negatives) on this app is that I wouldn’t fully keep my stocks on here. I usually invest in here for a year and move the accumulated stocks to my OFFICIAL trusted brokerage account which is Chase and then start over again. Plus I like my money being taken out on Friday so I have to actually tell them to take the money out Thursday cause it’s a day late. So yeah, that’s my honest review on this app. 10/10.

This app is a joke
This app is a joke, at least the spend part of it, I switched to using this as my main Checking account The available balance doesn’t not reflect the useable balance, multiple times it will say I have $x,xxx to spend but because of a charge that is “pending” I truly don’t have that much to spend meaning I have to whip out the calculator and do the math myself of how much I truly have to spend And the frosting on top of the cake is an automatic payment came out of my M1 account which dropped it into the negative. M1 then froze my account without an email, call, text, warning etc. 3 days later my direct deposit hit. The negative balance was -$150ish, my direct deposit was worth nearly $1300, but M1 having Froze my account withheld those funds instead of letting them settle my negative balance. It has now been almost 48 hours and multiple calls and people “looking into it” and nothing has changed. I still don’t have access to my direct deposit. I had to cancel an order for my landscaping company and bite those fees bc of this delaying my timelines and costing me money. This app isn’t transparent, isn’t communicative, etc. the Pie feature is super nice and I enjoyed the app to start but don’t waste your time using it as a full time checking account. I will probably be pulling all my funds once they actually release them to me and going to another online bank.

So far I’m disappointed and confused. Exactly what you want a prospective client to be it seems
So I signed up for an account. Everything looked good, and you came highly recommended. Then after I started to set up a portfolio I get an error message stating I could not set up a portfolio at this time. The. I got an email that said I had imputed the wrong birth date and I had to log out and log back in again. Checking your app I couldn’t even find anyplace to input my birthdate to correct it. So I logged out and logged back in. I got into the portfolio creation page and it says now that I have to have an account. You could say that it is because I’m a Boomer, or that I don’t understand technology, but I have taught app and website design for about 20 years now. So quite frankly, what is going on? Do you not want my money? Because as I count there are 30 or 40 other apps in the App Store that can do what I want, which is to just look at my investments from time to time without getting out a textbook. Let me know.

Happy
After figuring out the initial setup, the app has been great. I’ve been on the app for 5 months and have deposited around $2,000 so far. The ease at which you can adjust your portfolio and percentages really keeps you engaged. I like the fact that you can deposit as little as $10 on any given day so even if you are having a tough week financially you can still manages to throw in $10 to your account so you feel like you are still growing it. The only feature that would be great if it was added would be a feature that allowed you to by an individual share of a stock if you would like instead of always spreading out the deposits. I have another account on a different brokerage also because it’s missing this feature.

Good but could be a whole lot better
Everything works fine and I’ve been using M1 for about 4 years now. The main issues I have with it is you can only make 1 buy a day and that’s either at open or @ 12pm. This is very inflexible because being able to buy once a day is limiting one’s opportunities. In addition, you can not do a limit buy or a limit sell, which is really annoying. It’s hard to know what you price you bought the stock at within the app and you have to wait for an email to know what price you got it at. Also, you can’t have your dividends drip back into the stock that gave you the dividend, which again is really unfortunate. M1 needs to really get up to date with other platforms and offer basic features that are present amongst most platforms available today. Strongly considering transferring the Roth IRA to another brokerage.

Great Free Alternative for easy Investing
M1 is awesome: completely free, quick deposits unlike Robinhood, and partial shares which very few brokers do. I can make my own ETF essentially. I love the concept of pies, the app shows them very interactively and intuitively, and it's fun to make your own mix of stocks. I was using Robinhood, Schwab, and Betterment, but will now be doing M1 instead of Betterment. This will avoid the management fees and give me almost any choice of fund, which betterment doesn't allow for accounts less than $100k. I'll still keep Robinhood because I like the interface and the feeling of owning whole stocks, but I'll be using it less and less. Schwab same kind of thing, it's convenient but there are fewer free ETFs, and no free stocks. I would highly recommend this app, so far it's great and I will be putting most of my money into it.

Best All Around Investing App
M1 Finance is by far the best investing app I’ve used to date! I’ve use Robinhood, Sofi, Schwab, Fidelity, Acorns and Vanguard none of them come close to the ease of use, accessibility and sophistication that M1 Finance provides you. It is an all in one app from research, watching and purchasing stocks to build a great portfolio. Personally I use M1 to invest in my Roth IRA’s and a brokerage account. Also, other great perks if you get the M1 + membership (super cheap btw) you get access to a checking/debit card account that earns 1% interest on any money in that account, which beats almost 99% of the other high yield savings accounts on the market! If you’re a newbie or an experienced investor I’d go ahead and give M1 Finance a try it definitely won’t let you down!

Great app..but still needs big improvement to customer support and execution
I’ve been an M1 Plus user ($150/year) for almost a year and for the most part I have enjoyed using the app. I appreciate the pies, the simplicity of the auto investing, and the updates, but something that has come up more times than it should is their inability to execute orders during the trade windows (6:30am/12pm PT). On multiple occasions, I’ve put in an order for a stock when it was at a good price, and the order doesn’t go through and waits until the next trade window. At this point, the stock price has changed and usually in my experience, it’s much more expensive. Considering I‘m paying $150 annually to have access to BOTH trade windows, it’s baffling that M1 can’t execute during ONE of the windows. Especially if it’s an order I placed the night before to buy at the open. On top of this, when I request support it’s hard to find and it takes a while to hear back (if I do). Instead they usually process the order after seeing my support ticket come in (at which point I’ve missed the gains) and skip the part where they email me back. This is how I’d expect a college bookie to respond to order related issues, not my brokerage that holds much of my net worth. I advise M1 to figure this out or I’ll be switching to a new brokerage in the future.

Great until you need support (m1 spend)
I have used the app since the beginning and have signed up for almost every product they have released (m1+, cc, retirement, invest, crypto etc...) Loved the app & company, until I got robbed and my phone/wallet/cards were stolen. I had 5 cards stolen that day. Dealing with all the different banks to get my money recovered was a bit of a pain.. as to be expected, but for 4 of the cards the support was there and there was a process in place (submit police report etc..) Eventually 4 out of the 5 banks returned my money after the investigation, including m1 owners cc card. 1 bank did not, M1 Spend+. The support offered by m1 spend+ specifically (not their cc) is the worst I have ever dealt with by a long shot, to the point I will be transferring all accounts and money out of m1. You will not get support via the phone and they will not respond within 2 business days. TLDR - Felt like I got robbed twice that day and then ghosted by my bank. Luckily it was not a ton of money taken from this card, but I simply can’t get it back now per m1 spend support (after multiple tickets and 3+ months of silence.) I simply have to take it as a loss an move on. I would just be cautious using m1 as an all in one banking & investing app like I did, I put a lot of trust into the product and planned to use it for a long time. This backfired unfortunately and I do not trust the product any longer.

M1 Investing is great- M1 spend not so much.
I made the switch from RobinHood to M1 in the last couple of weeks and I’m overall satisfied. I signed up for M1 spend as well to take advantage of Cashback and a high APR as I like to leave large sums of money in my investment apps Incase I want to make a quick purchase. Upon arrival of my debit card I tried to activate it on the app and just receive a bland error message- so I tried on the computer- same message. This was the first time I’ve tried to get in contact with someone from m1 and my experience was not so great. It’s almost impossible to get someone on the phone and they do not respond to service requests in a timely matter. Since I haven’t heard back I’m hoping they will see this review and shoot me an email fixing my debit card (which has a very high annual charge) for not being able to use. Thanks.

Clunky UX with unclear on boarding experience
TL:DR: Great potential with this platform but plagued by bad user and on boarding experience. Long story: I wanted to take advantage of their 0% interest for May and June so I signed up for an account. That part was easy but the bad experience happens during on boarding, which was lackluster. There was no guide teaching you what each UI element means or what those tabs do after your initial setup, leaving you hanging. What annoyed me the most is that I tried to make a "Spend" account and it instead made another "Invest" account. I don't want 2 brokerage accounts... Sigh. Apparently you must fund the invest account first before you can make a "Spend" account. But jeeze if that's the case disable the "Spend" tab or tell the user they must fund their "Invest" account first! Now the "Spend" tab is telling me I need to make an "Invest" account even though I have 2! Anyways another pain point was the slow bank linking process if you use Wells Fargo 2FA. I had to disable it since I never got the 2 small deposits to your bank so you can verify it the traditional way. In summary, I don't know if I can trust all of my money with M1 Finance if they can't even figure out basic UX and UI. Not to mention, they can't even deposit the small amount to my bank to verify it. For now, I'll make M1 my play account until they get their act together, and I'm hopeful that they will.

M1 still lacks most basic features!
I don’t know if they have to many irons in the fire or what. They have a lot nice features but only half baked in my opinion. On the investment side the research stock section is sorely lacking compared to other brokers it is more of a news aggregator. Still no authorized user option for their credit card in over a year since I have had it, no joint accounts for spend, no mobile check deposit or physical checks option, yet they offer an option to send a check from the app (which the reason why I would be writing a check in the first place this feature would be useless). Supposedly they are adding a savings account it will be interesting to see what is missing from that when it launches if it is even anytime soon. They offer many popular things but not anyone thing is complete with basic features found elsewhere. Automation of pies is the only thing going for it at this point!
