Good App. Touch ID / Face ID Issue (FIXED 5/1/20)
It’s a good app. Only one issue about Touch ID/Face ID. I just spoke to Marcus customer service, after you log in, do not log out. If you do log out, next time you open the app, you have to log in manually again (enter your email & password, very annoying). Just close the app and after 3 - 5 minutes later, it will log you out. Next time you open the app, you will see a Touch ID/ Face ID prompt. Not sure why Marcus set it up this way. Other banking apps, you log out. Hopefully Marcus will fix this. I feel more secure if I can log out after using the app. Also, not sure why Marcus is making us create a 4 digit pin/passcode. We don’t need it for online, however we need it for the app login? Just make it simple like other banking apps, allow us to log out/sign out, allow us to log in using Touch ID/Face after logging out, and please get rid of the passcode. UPDATE 5/1/20: Logging out/Touch ID/Face ID issues are fixed. Now it’s perfect. Thank you developers!

Let’s see how this goes
I just opened up my Marcus accounts & downloaded the app. I like how quick & easy everything was to set up & transfer. The design/ layout is super simple. I like that because I don’t need many functions. I just want the money to sit in there. My only issue is that you can’t name the accounts. I have them separated for different things and this would have been a big plus. Hopefully, that’s the only issue but we’ll see how this goes. Update**** You can name your accounts now! I’m very pleased because this has been my only issue. It’s a wonderful app and I’ve never had a problem with it. Very simple and easy to use. The recurring transfers allow me to save without thinking. And each account can be set up individually which is a plus because I have multiple accounts for different things and prioritize them differently. It also has a pretty comparable interest rate for a HYSA.

IF YOU PUT MONEY HERE IT WILL GET STOLEN BY MARCUS
My wife and I have been Marcus customers for about 5 years. I have never had any issues but I have only put money in. Recently, we were trying to purchase a home that we have now lost because of Marcus. Marcus is refusing to release our entire life savings to our own account. Now we are so furious that we want all ties cut with Marcus and to close our accounts. We also learned apple cut ties with Marcus for the same issue and this is something Marcus has done for years. We initiated 4 wire transfers over 10 business days that all either get “lost” in Marcus’s online system or get declined for unknown reasons. We have spoken to probably over 100 customer service agents who all tell us a different reason how it’s our fault that it didn’t go through yet don’t actually try to help us. Every phone call we spend 30-40 minutes on hold and get transferred to different departments to be told that we simply just need to initiate another transfer. We reached out to a lawyer and now have to spend weeks putting in formal complaints with the BBB, FDIC, consumer financial protection bureau. Do not make the mistake we did. Do not use this bank

No App Support
I’ve had an account with Marcus for about a year. I opened my account with the App and did all my transactions with ease up until a month ago. I’m no longer able to login with the App. I type in my login in credentials and an window pops up indicating Marcus’ products and services are only available in the US. When you close the window it goes back to the login on screen. It never advances to my account. It’s stuck there. My VPN is set to USA as always. This window used to pop up before and I would close it, then it would take me to my account. I’ve contacted customer service and no one can resolve this. A ticket was put in, but I have not received a response, but was also told by customer service that there’s no guarantee I will be contacted. I hope the App developer can fix this. This is really an inconvenience not being able to use the App on my phone. Please fix it.

Great bank but…
It’s a great bank and a great app, however, the checking account which is the last thing that I’ve been excitedly waiting for from Marcus keeps getting delayed and I’ve recently been hearing and reading reports that some reorganization in Goldman Sachs will affect Marcus and will take them back into focusing mostly on their super wealthy clients. While I’d love to keep using Marcus and I’d love to make it my main bank with a checking account, I can’t help but to feel like I’m losing hope and faith that they will remain a bank that works for me as a customer who isn’t super wealthy. If you’re someone who doesn’t feel that way or is willing to use them until they maybe start saying they can’t anymore then it’s a phenomenal bank, but if you’re like me then it’s probably best to find another place to keep your finances which is what I’ll unfortunately be doing.

Not a fan
I’m a GM card user and I really liked the Capital One app before Marcus acquired the GM Card. I really liked the feature that would send me a notification right after a purchase. It’s like you were checking your statement in real time. My biggest complaint is that the app doesn’t always show the vendor properly for a charge. I think it sometimes guesses the vendor. For example I had charges show up from Sam’s Club. I’m not even a member there. When I called customer support they said that was for Sam’s Cleaners. But there was now way to determine that vendor in the app. I also did some shopping while vacationing on Hilton Head island. I had a charge show up as Hilton, like it was from the hotel chain. In fact I stayed at a Hilton two weeks prior an the charges look similar in the app. I had to call customer service just to confirm it was a legitimate charge from the beach store on Hilton Head island. I don’t know why the can’t jus show the exact vendor for each charge. Some do show it correct but many don’t and it’s frustrating. It’s also a waste of time having to call someone every time a suspicious charge shows up.

They are the best
I got a pre approved loan offer and when I tried to complete the application my credit score was hard pulled which affected my credit and I was requested to upload my ID card which I tried to upload on their website/app but I keep getting an error message that they have a technical issue. I called and all their representatives couldn’t find a solution to how I can upload my ID to process my application. They said it’s a general problem and they don’t know how to fix it. So Marcus literally messed up my credit without allowing me complete the application. I regret ever accepting their offer cos the hard pull will remain on my credit report for 2 years for no reason. They don’t have email to reach them. They only have representatives who have no knowledge of the company. Update: My issue was satisfactorily resolved . Thanks

Needs more security controls
Marcus seems extremely new to dealing with credit cards and their app and web accounts do not have necessary security features. I have push notifications enabled, but I can only receive emails when a charge is made. Additionally, it appears that they will only send you a notification if the charge is above $0.01, meaning that if someone makes a $0.00 charge to link your card number to their paypal, you will not get a notification and therefore cannot lock your card before they start using it. (Also, they bring up a number pad for you to enter an amount, but the decimal is missing, so you can only enter whole numbers above $0.) Additionally, the “lock your card” feature is not prominent on the app’s interface. Indeed, I cannot find it at all. In short, they appear to have not considered credit card security and I will definitely curtail the use of my card because there are no features that allow me to track my card’s use and immediate lock it if it is stolen.

BAIT AND SWITCH. SCAM. BEWARE.
Signed up with an APY of 1.55% and within 2 weeks it went down to 1.3%. This is apparently not the first time they’ve done this. In a matter of ONE year they’ve dropped from 2% to 1.3%. On top of that, they locked me out of my account and when I called to have it unlocked there was a 45 minute wait just for the representative to give me ZERO explanation and tell me I’d be contacted within 24-48 hours by a specialist. WHAT?! I have no access to MY money and I’m being given the runaround by what I thought was a reputable bank. Do NOT open a savings account with Marcus. You’re better off putting your money into stocks or bonds that will yield you more than a measly 1.3%.

STAY AWAY from this bank.
The App was great, until it stopped working months ago. I love the facial recognition feature; that allows me to use long and complicated passwords with ease. Login once, enable facial recognition, tada! Sadly, I haven’t been able to logon since October 2022. I can’t even logon using a WEB browser. My emergency savings are stuck and inaccessible. Marcus rejects ACH transfers. Agents refuse to close my account. Oh, that computer is down, or they hang up on you, or they tell you that they are updating their software. All lies. I’m ready to have my tax returns prepared but I cannot login to print out a 1099. When I call, I’m told it’s in the mail. Another lie. See the title! Ignore my advice at your own peril. Update: Feb 8th 2023 - Truly sorry? I finally got my savings back after complaining to the BBB and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and I lost count of the number of calls I made to the Marcus call center. How is a ‘respected’ business in the US that treats its customers like that allowed to stay in business? Online banking? Lesson learned, STAY AWAY. Somebody call Elizabeth Warren.

I wanted to love this product
However, my experience has not been what you’d expect from a leading company like GS, especially recently. For a reason unknown to me, my account was put on a temporary hold. I have not been able to transfer funds from Marcus to my linked accounts for over a month now. And over draft fees on my other accounts are piling up because I cannot make a simple transfer. I’ve tried contacting support multiple times, often the wait was just too long (hours) and I could not get the support I needed. Finally, I was able to contact a specialist that seemed to know how to help. After over an hour of looking at my account and 3 way calling one of my linked banks to confirm details of a transaction that apparently locked my account, I was told the issue was solved and I should now be able to make transfers. However, I STILL cannot make a transfer. I tried logging out/back in. I tried updating the app. Nothing worked. I’m very disappointed. Please can someone help resolve this issue once and for all…and quickly..

No push notifications, no balance between transactions, double transactions on purchases
March of 2022 and still waiting for push notifications to see card transactions. Plus, no balance between transactions and still seeing double transactions with same place and same amounts. GM really messed up when they switched from Capital One to Marcus. How in the world does this app have a 4.9 rating?? Update: April of 2022, Still no push notifications. Every banking and credit card app I have has push notifications, just not Marcus. Zero stars for Marcus. Did the app developers also do the math to get the 4.9 rating?? Still getting calls monthly that they are working on the problems. Update: September of 2023, Guess what? LoL still no push notifications, no line balance update between transactions, and still the occasional double entry. It’s been a year and a half. GM please get another credit card company to do your GM card. I asked the lady that called me from Marcus today if she banked with Marcus or had a Marcus credit card, she said no. Figured..

Love Marcus, don’t like the update
I've been using the Marcus app for a while now, and overall, I've been very pleased with it. One of the standout features is the ease with which you can check your accounts. The user interface is intuitive and straightforward, making it simple to navigate through various account details. However, with the latest update, I’ve encountered an issue that has been quite frustrating. The app no longer provides the previous option where it would show the overall account balance from all accounts at a glance. This feature was incredibly convenient for getting a quick snapshot of my total financial status without having to manually sum up individual account balances. While I still appreciate many aspects of the app, the removal of this feature has been a significant drawback for me. I hope the developers consider bringing back the overall account balance view in future updates.

Hard to Navigate
I am one of the GM CREDIT CARD holders who have recently been switched from Capital One to Marcus by Goldman Sachs. The Marcus app is hard to navigate and find the information you are looking for. There is no place that I can find a concise list of current balance, payment due date, minimum payment due, available credit, next account closing date, or rewards balance. After you are done using the app it is even hard to find where to log off. I realize that Goldman Sachs is an investment company, but if they want to be in the credit card business, they need to check out other credit card apps like Capital One, Wells Fargo, Chase and Citi Bank to design an app which offers the same easy to navigate features as their competitors. Goldman Sachs should have done their homework before taking on millions of Capital One customers. They were and are totally unprepared for this venture.

Marcus is Great..:App needs work
Insight is great but the app has some bugs that need to be fixed but once they are I think it will be great and my rating will change to 5. 1. Trying to link external accounts on the app I select the institution and then it brings me to screen to select my bank instead of bringing me to the screen to enter my credentials for the account I want to link. Because of this it keeps linking my bank account multiple times. 2. The view and breakdown on the app and the actual website are different. Certain accounts show up in one spot on the website and a different spot on the app. My net worth is also different online than it is on the app. This should all match in both places. 3. I started to try to link account through the website since that’s they only want I can get it to link properly but on certain institutions I keep getting an error 4. It is not easy to report bugs or get support all I want to do is sent a bug report in I don’t need to spend time talking to customer service and I could not figure out to chat through the app…I’m thinking it’s not supported or I just couldn’t find it. I found it on the website but not the app. But again I don’t want to chat with customer service I just want to report a bug. Marcus Insight seems like it will be a very useful tool once I can get all the account set up properly.

Locked out of account for 3 months
I was locked out of my savings account for 3 months because Goldman Sachs was unable to verify my identity based on my phone number. In total I spent well over 10 hours on the phone with customer support. The customer support was awful. From what I could tell all the customer support specialists work from home, but the issue is they do not care at all or are not doing anything to help with my issue. Everytime I called support they would tell me the same thing, “sir we will send you an affidavit in the mail to confirm your identity for security reasons. ” I would never get the affidavit. I would call them, be told to wait a week to receive the affidavit, wait a week and then call them back and be told the same thing. This cycle repeated for 3 months. At one point I thought I lost it all. This entire time I thought that the reason why I was locked out is maybe because I typed in my info wrong during the account setup. But it was because they could not identify that my phone number was registered under my name. If you have a family cell phone plan and you don’t pay for the bill, there is a chance that you will also be locked out of your account and have your funds frozen. If that’s the case, expect to wait a long time (up to 3 months ) to get access to your funds again. Luckily I was able to get access and immediately moved out all my funds.

Problems with Marcus
This review is more about my experience with the bank and customer service than the ap, but thought it might be helpful to some. Shortly after opening my account it became locked. Okay no big deal it happens. But when I called to resolve issue they could not figure out to unlock my account. They said they would call back in 1-2 business days after they figured it out. 3 business days later I called back. They still couldn't figure out how to unlock the account or explain why it became locked in the first place. The best option at this point seemed to be a forced closure of the account. They said my funds would be returned in 7-10 business days. 12 business days later, still no funds and I am once again on hold. I've spent quite a bit of time on hold at this point while my funds are who knows where????? Would not recommend. I ended up opening a wealthfront account instead which has a higher % anyway for savings.

Please bring the monthly line graph back!
I switched over to Marcus because I used Clarity and loved it. It’s basically the same app with some extra features but Marcus has some differences graphics wise that make it not as useful as clarity. The monthly spending graphic used to have a line graph where you saw the trajectory of your spending for the month based off your current spending rate. Please bring the line graph back!! The pie chart is the same as every other money tracking app I’ve used, in fact this one is worse because it’s not even different colors to see a quick representation of what you spend each month, it’s just different shades of each color which is a cool gradient but not practical. If they fix both of these, I’ll be happy to use it. If not, I’ll try and find something else or just make my own line graph.

Chunky, needs refined.
Coming from GM rewards app by Capitol One, this app is unrefined. I log into half my screen of a greeting, some quote, and a desk lamp picture. For what? Can’t even turn on the lamp. There’s no “widget” to add for IOS users so can’t just swipe over and see current balance. Wanted me to go digital statements so I did no big deal. Then it lets you know payment is due but not what is due. Is it $1, all of it, a minimum? Just gotta guess and go with it. On Home Screen you can see balance and a number but no indications that you can click it for more details. You can click the dollar sign at the bottom (one would assume $ may give more details etc, nope! Just takes you to a new screen with the exact same 3 line items from home page, just w out the desk lamp etc. So there can really can be some improvements made but it is a decent start.

App is awful & service is no good
I’ve been a Marcus client for a while, but my experience during this pandemic has been terrible. I’m unhappy because their app is not functioning properly on my phone, not to mention their rates are not so great anymore. When I log into the app I can only see the balance on my account. I cannot see the transaction history. I’ve contacted Marcus multiple times about this issue. The first rep I spoke with told me it was my phone that was the problem. THAT’S NOT A GOOD ENOUGH ANSWER BRO LOL. All my other banking apps work just fine except for this one. I don’t think my phone is the problem. The second rep I spoke to said that he escalated my case to their tech department and that they would reach out to me. I’m still awaiting a response weeks later... not great service.

Amazing HYSA
I love Marcus! They’re one of my favorite financial institutions that is virtual. I don’t have a need to call them often as everything is self explanatory. They literally just updated their app so it’s more streamlined. It’s very fast to log on and access my information. (Some apps take a while to load but not this one). However, with the new update, it no longer states the total in all of your accounts at the top. Which I don’t like that. I want to see how much my total savings is. I hope they put it back. Also, my second favorite is with capital one. I wish Marcus would show an accrural amount up to date each month like capital one does. I like watching my interests grow daily until the payout. It’s not a dealbreaker but would be a nice feature.

Bring back the line graph!
I used whatever the version of this app was before it got sold to you and loved it! I switched over when it became this and was very disappointed because some of the things that had been most helpful for me understanding my spending habits had been taken out. The biggest of which was the line graph that showed how your spending was progressing over the current month and it a had a shadow that showed your average spending over a month to compare. Please bring this back! I have not been using your app for almost a year because of this problem, but I want to come back because your categories of spending make way more sense than on Mint. (Namely you have groceries and dining/drinks as different categories and Mint combines them, which makes no sense). Please bring back the line graph

From Clarity to Marcus
If you were a Clarity user or looking for a money app, here’s what you should know about Marcus. Clarity was a fantastic app for minimal budgeting & spending overview. When they got absorbed into Marcus, there were a few changes. The main differences is that the app keeps the general UI and categories from Clarity But other than that, most of Clarity’s overview panels like credit score overview, active notifications, and more nuanced budgeting functions have since been hidden or redacted. The main difference seems to be that Marcus upped the security of the app, which in turn creates less active notifications and more login steps to see your general overviews that you typically want to reference quickly. They also seem to be pushing for the use of their other services (which probably gets seen in the app) and has the ability to access all that Marcus has to offer as a banking business. It’s a shame since Clarity was so convenient, company neutral and user friendly. Bottom line: if you’re a Marcus customer, then this app probably works well for you. If you’re coming from Clarity or want a quick & organized way to see your general economic habits, then you may want to consider other apps outside of Marcus.

Inaccessible outside of the US
I don’t want to leave a bad review but I would like an issue to be addressed. I have a funded Marcus account and frequently travel internationally. When abroad I cannot open the app at all and can only log in to the website from my laptop using a vpn. I keep getting a message like, ‘thank you for your interest in Marcus but only Americans are allowed access to this service for now.’ I find this frustrating and nonsensical since many Americans travel abroad and may still want to check on their accounts. Even with a vpn on my phone I cannot open the app while abroad (primarily in the Middle East). I would like to be able to rely on using my phone since I don’t always have my laptop. It seems possible to limit the applicants to Americans while still making the website/app operational from foreign ip addresses. Otherwise the app is great, and I’m sorry for leaving a one star review, but wasn’t sure how to let the company know of this issue.

Awful experience
I’d give it zero stars if possible. This people made it incredibly difficult to make a transfer from the Marcus account to a checking account from another bank. A few days after placing the transfer they called me and said they needed to verify the account details but they were not going to be able to do it because it was not a weekday. After that, they never called me again to verify those details. I called their customer service to make the transfer again and to verify the details, which they were able to during my call, but then the wire took a few days to arrive which messed all my schedule. I just transferred all the money out from here and will close my account. Also, the process of opening the account was also a pain because they needed to do so many unnecessary security checks and they ended opening two accounts instead of one.

Great app, could use a few enhancements to make it even better.
My wife and I use this app for our high yield savings accounts, to monitor the household monthly spending, and to track investments in one place. We primarily use it to monitor the household spending and I love not only how it presents the data, but also the flexibility it allows to tweak each item. I just really wish we could assign not only categories, but also people for each business my wife and I shop. This would allow us to easily discern not just what categories we’re spending the most on, but also who is doing that spending without having to do the math ourselves. My wife and I use the same cards for almost everything so this would really help us.

Worst Customer Experience I’ve had anywhere
Do your online banking anywhere but here. There are different high yield savings accounts with far better customer service and verification methods. My account has been locked for 6 months and I have no way to access my money or make any transfers or withdrawals. I’ve been on five different 30+ minute phone calls over the course of those months trying to get my account unlocked, but because I don’t live in one of a certain few states, they can’t use anything but my phone number to verify me on my account (not even my SSN, Drivers License Number, or secret word). Even though I put my own phone number on the account, there’s an issue with the Caller ID that the carrier can’t fix so I have no way of accessing my account. CHOOSE A DIFFERENT ONLINE BANK! Marcus is not worth the headache. If you want your money locked up with no way to access it, you’re in the right place!

A few ideas for spending tracking
Overall love the app- clean look, easy to use, and makes it easy to see how my balance has changed over time. I just have a few suggestions on the spending tracking features. Why do I need to manually enter one number for monthly income? You can see my paychecks come in, so i would like to see the app calculate my average monthly income (taking into account the last 3 months or something) and base the snapshots on that. I would also like to be able to split up a transaction for cases like where I paid for an Airbnb or dinner and am getting paid back by a bunch of people - so I want the $100 that I paid to be factored into my snapshot/ metrics, but not have my spending get totally skewed by a $600 transaction.

Love the service, upset with one recent change.
I wanna preface that I love the service and recommend Marcus to all my people. The recent software update seemed to remove the account growth bar graphs. I don’t really get much benefit from a more sleek design, especially since the design was already intuitive (at least for my purpose) Honestly, the bar graphs/visual representation was the most beneficial feature to my saving journey. One of the things that really motivated me while saving was being able to visualize my account value in the bar graph that the app provided. Money has always been tight and it has never been easy to save, so I really appreciated having that visual cue to keep me going. Only looking at numbers doesn’t do anything for me. Again, I love this service and the app has always been easy and good to use. This alone isn’t enough to make me switch to a competitor and I still plan on utilizing Marcus I just really hope to see this feature return.

A step back
I was switched to Marcus by GM and have now dealt with this app against the background of Capital’s app. This app falls short. One of the reasons to have an app like this is to monitor your card. I obviously won’t obsessively open it to see if any activity has occurred. I like to us Notifications for that. They are turned on in the app and I settings but nothing is ever reported to my screen. It is as if notifications don’t actually exist. On every other credit card app I can get notification when there is activity. Here, nothing. It is important, Marcus. Add it. Update: the point of having an App is App alerts. No, emails is not what I am asking for and neither are text messages. Every other banking app I use notifies me from the app’s notification function when there is activity. Why is Marcus unable to do so?

Worked great, now giving me issues
The app worked great from the first time I downloaded it until about two weeks ago. Now every time I login, it says I have to confirm or update my information in order to continue. However, every time I click ok and it takes me to the website on a web browser, there is nothing there and I can’t fix it. So it just stays on this screen and I can’t do it anything. I deleted the app and redownloaded it and it worked for a day or two, and now the same thing is happening. Not sure what the issue is, but would love it to be fixed!

Banking App with lots of Promise
It’s about as basic of a banking app as it gets, which I like. My favorite part is the greeting with some inspirational quote that makes you feel like you’re a millionaire when you’ve only got a balance of $5.00. The financial wellness part has a lot of promise, but it needs the ability to actually itemize and add separately whatever extra income or expenses can’t be tracked by the account merging as opposed to adding them manually and not knowing what income or expense you’re adding. It also needs to show a negative income number to demonstrate your deficit if it exists to help you better understand how much you’re overspending rather than going to zero net income if you are indeed overspending.

Great app
I love this app—the pie charts are helpful for visualizing where my money is going and I like being able to adjust my spending categories accordingly in case they weren’t correctly placed. One improvement I hope to see in the future is the ability to split transactions into “me” and “others” because I will put my card down at dinner and get paid back by others which is calculated correctly dollar-wise, but distorts the amount that I actually spend eating out because my part of the bill was only $35 but I paid over $100 for the whole thing.

Technical issues constantly
I can’t remember the last time I opened the app and didn’t get a warning screen pop-up that the app is encountering technical issues. It’s tolerable given the rates they pay are top of market, but you should completely write off the app providing any value. Similarly, and infuriatingly, Marcus will not link successfully with any other apps you might use like Wealthfront, Personal Capital, Monarch, etc. the data will be pulled but will break every time if you are linking via Plaid. It is because Marcus does not support open banking, which is really surprising and kind of a legacy approach. Surprising for an institution like Goldman. Will definitely leave the second someone offers a better rate so all of my other apps can start working again.

Finally, noticeable interest in the right direction!
I have been a Wells Fargo customer for many years. The only interest I had grown accustomed to seeing was the insane interest payments on my credit card. My Wells Fargo savings account interest gains were pennies and never came close to the ATM and foreign currency transaction fees. I have had my Marcus account only a month and already see the financial benefits. I know it’s only $30 or $40 bucks gain per month (for now) but it’s finally noticeable money in MY direction. Just waiting for your checking account and ATM cards!

Issue Logging Into App
Recently, the app started asking to verify contact info/profile before allowing access to account, but it doesn’t offer a way to do it... only option is to press the “okay” dialog box which then opens up a desktop web version of my online account. Then a small box appears at top of screen asking to open the Marcus app to continue. Press open app and it goes back to asking for verification of account profile before allowing access. Stuck in an endless loop...😐 other than this recent issue I love the app and its simplicity in navigating my account. Easier than going online via webpage. Please fix access issue thanks.

Snapshot
The Snapshot section on the mobile app is broken. It never refreshes from month to month. It says I’m -$22,000 because for some reason it listed a $1000 deposit into an investing account like 20 times as a transaction. The mechanics work fine on a desktop and I love the look and feel of the app. Doesn’t have tons of adds and isn’t crowded with a bunch of other stuff. Still, since there the app is pretty slimmed down and only has 3 or so major features, it would be nice if those features actually worked. They REALLY need to make it so you can edit transactions. If the app duplicates or lists tons of duplicate transactions, there’s no way to edit them.

Poor comparison to Capital One App!
After GM Extended Family credit cards switched to Marcus, I sure find this app inferior! I doubt if I am the only customer to complain. 1. So hard to figure out where to view current and pending charges on App - that should be on the FIRST PAGE! Especially since, see 2. 2. App does NOT provide for TEXT notices!!! Text notice of charges provide immediate check of potential fraudulent use of card. It does have an email option but ALL other financial institutions we use also HAVE TEXT! So … Find an app that is Not so Busy advertising the Marcus institution and provides customer information instead - Pu-leez! Just added to the frustration with this changeover.

Sloppy user interface
The app has a major UI annoyance. After the first session logged in, every subsequent one throws up a “Please try again later” message on just about every screen I visit. When I tap OK, the message goes away. But having this in my face AT EVERY SCREEN is obnoxious. The only way to “fix” it is to swipe up and kill the app after each session. Of the many bank apps I use, only Marcus has this problem. Note: I’m running the most current version of the app, on the latest iOS version, on an iPhone 14 Pro. I’ve even tried removing the app and reinstalling it, but the problem persists. So this is most definitely an app problem — not user error.

Was happy until they locked me out of my account
I was happy with the app and the banking service until they locked my account, they said they needed to verify my account, the account I opened the savings account with and have always used. I was on the phone with the representative for over an hour as she called my bank account. However, after I verified she said that my account now had to be reviewed and wouldn’t be unlocked until that happened in 3 business days!! And I needed to call them again to have it unlocked after it was reviewed!!! You have to be joking!!! I get the security precaution but I was clearly who i said I am, and obviously the owner of my accounts!!! Absolutely ridiculous, especially when I need the funds to pay for my child’s school

Just missing one feature...
Simple, intuitive, and easy to use application. All relevant information (e.g. # of transfers, APY, etc.) is clear and easy to find. Perfect app and service for those looking to keep their emergency fund or short-term savings independent from their day-to-day banking. The ONLY feature I wish they implemented is the ability to define a name for your accounts. I currently have 3 accounts in my app, each with money destined for different things. I’d love to be able to name each account as such. I believe this would greatly improve the user experience given the purpose of this savings product. 4 stars to an otherwise nearly flawless app.

Awful, Simply Awful
To be clear, I’m not writing a negative review just because Goldman-Sachs is a slimy company that represents every way capitalism can be exploited for evil. No, it’s just a legitimately terrible app. I’m extremely skeptical of how it got an overall good rating. Very suspicious. Fortunately, I hear they are completely unable to run a credit card business. I’m hoping they will be releasing my GM Card from their evil grip soon. Apple was smart enough to dump them, so hopefully GM is too. I use my card as little as possible since they got their evil mitts on it. Regarding the app, lately my login has been erased every time they’ve released an app update. I am finally giving up and will start using the website exclusively again. Both navigate terrible and unintuitive, but at least the website mostly works. That’s my real gripe with this app. It’s extremely unintuitive and difficult to navigate. I just want to check my balance and transactions, and my my bill. It seems like they expect you will be a customer who uses multiple of their services. I hate the one which was forced on me, so why would I want to do more business with pure evil?

Great App so far
I have been using Marcus for about a year now. And so far I love the service and the App. Everything is easy to understand. I just wish there’s a straight layout of my saving and the interest, instead of going to many steps to be able to see that. That’s the reason for the 4 stars. I am just confused on the Marcus Insight feature. Why that when the same company own Clarity. And Clarity and Marcus Insight are pretty much the same (same functions). I was trying to see the difference but there’s none.

Zero Stars - Does not work with iPhone VPN
Like many others, I run a VPN on my phone to improve my privacy and information security. I am unable to log into the Marcus app, getting an error that Marcus products are only available in the United States. I am connected to a VPN server in the US. I understand there may be some security policies the bank is seeking to enforce, but this restriction makes the app 100% useless to me. The whole point of the VPN is to protect my information security, especially for things like banking transactions. Please find a more balanced approach that is more customer friendly and that respects and protects our need to encrypt our wireless transactions. If we can’t get this fixed, it will call into question whether I can continue with Marcus. Thank you.

😡 FRAUD! DO NOT GET THIS CARD 😡
It’s been over two months now and my car does not work. I received it and it came blocked already. I’ve called the card company multiple times and they have done nothing. I’ve written bad reviews up here and the card company simply says the same thing under every bad review which is just call us and will help you. I’ve already called them multiple times and nothing. Do not get this card. Terrible customer service. Terrible card. They are fraudulent. They took my information and sent me a blocked card that I could never use. Now if I call and I try to cancel it it’s going to mess up my credit. It was also a hard inquiry on my history. These people this card. Be sorry to this card. FRAUD! FRAUD FRAUD FRAUD FRAUD! 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬🤬😡😡🤬🤬

Update made the home page less convenient
I didn’t have many problems with this app until the latest update. Now the homepage no longer shows the total amount I have held in Marcus — only the totals for individual savings accounts, CDs, etc. That means I need to pull out a calculator to keep track of the total amount, which feels absurd to me when it could so easily be displayed on the app. I would also appreciate a dark mode. Otherwise, it’s a fine & functional app and I’m happy with having a Marcus account overall. Just always particularly irksome when an update makes an app worse instead of better.

Wow.
I’m in love with the app already!! The ease of it is unlike any other bank type of app. It’s so easy to link your other accounts and the analysis it does on your spending is beyond words. You have to see it for yourself. I wish I knew about Marcus sooner! I’m so glad I found it when I did though and I’m sure it’s definitely going to help me go in the direction I need to financially. It’s only up from here 🙌 And p.s. normally I don’t write reviews but I literally felt so compelled to do so for this app so I hope this helps someone!

App good. Bank bad.
The app developers did a great job. Impressive, modern interface providing a clear, simple client journey. But it’s just window dressing, unfortunately. I have a GM card and noticed their savings rate is pretty good so I thought I’d open a savings account and move some money. They promise same day transfers. I initiate a transfer to fund the account and then I notice the funds won’t be available for 7 days. That’s not a same day transfer. Is it worth keeping my money in limbo for a week to earn half a percent interest? Nope. Give me a break. If I’m going to put my money with a neobank, it better be accessible or what’s the point? I’ll just leave it with my actual bank. Goldman is clueless.

Ridiculous update
I’ve never written a review, but now is the time. I used to think the Marcus app was one of if not the best financial apps out there. With the latest update, it’s one of the worst. Why would you remove key beloved features with no warning? I had spent quite a bit of time linking to other accounts in order to see my whole financial picture. That is all gone in a flash. My whole financial planning routine is now defunct. Don’t feed us that “in order to simplify organization” spin - it’s insulting! Will quite likely move a substantial amount of money from this account and close it. I’ll also advise others against using your product. You clearly don’t care what your loyal clients think of you.

Good app, lousy banking experience
App's been solid despite too much marketing & data harvesting. Banking experience was abysmal. Opened a savings account & executed a transfer then locked out of my account without any email, SMS, or phone notification. Turned out I had to verify ownership of the account I was transferring to. Fine, resolved, but why on the 2nd transfer to the same account? Then the same transfer blocked again because I need to verify ownership of the account I was transferring from. Couldn't get thru to that bank in 10m so I have to call them and conference GS in to verify I own the same account I funded from originally. Nope. Two weeks without being able to move my funds. Nope. No communication. No thanks. I'm done. I'm out.
