Required review reading to get app to work
Like every other reviewer on here, I too, had issues being able to pay for a ticket. You follow the prompts on the video that metro transit has provided yet everything is grayed out that might allow you to pay. I followed the instructions of another reviewer to delete the app and re-download. However, I had to take an additional step of asking metro transit to reset my password, and then delete, and re-upload the app in order to get payments to work. Hoping this helps for others. Definitely not a “quick download and go” operation. Bring cash as a back up or find a local who still has a card that can be reloaded.

Delete and redownload to purchase tickets
Like other reviews I am seeing here, I was unable to select the “Set Payment” button when trying to purchase a ticket. After calling customer service, they instructed me to delete and redownload the app. This worked for me and I am now able to select the “Set Payment” button and enter information. I originally downloaded the app because my Go-To card did not have enough balance for my fare and reloading the card takes 24 hours to process. The original download of the app with the purchasing bug made for a stressful first experience, especially at the risk of missing my bus to work. I am rating the app three stars in hopes for a smooth experience going forward and future improvements. Safe travels out there!

Was great then stopped working
When I initially downloaded this app, it was working fine for weeks. Sure there were some bugs that you had to watch out for, but for the most part it was great and I chose to overlook them because I thought they weren’t a big deal. Now however, the app doesn’t work at all and I can’t even purchase a ticket when I really need one. It keeps saying 500 error:(. The app not working is especially the worst when you have no cash on you foe the bus fare and when an uber is way to pricey. Please do better Metro Transit. If you guys invested more into this app being better, it would very appreciated and amazing for us bus riders. Thank you!

Work for Tickets
The app is for tickets. It hyperlinks you to the MetroTransit website for everything else (Trip Planner, Next Trip, Schedules & Maps, Alerts, etc.), which is understandable as the investment was already made there, and it’s certainly more convenient than searching for bookmarks. Bottom line: It works well for what it does — buying, storing, and activating tickets. Rock solid. Thanks, MetroTransit. (Note: if you have trouble logging in after the upgrade on July 15, 2021, do a reset password. I think the max password length might’ve changed. I had that problem, and it was immediately resolved by a reset.)

Worked for a while, but not reliable
I used this app just fine for over a year, but then it complained about connectivity issues. I didn’t have any problems with other apps connecting to the internet though, just this one. A transit app needs to be more reliable than this.

App can’t purchase tickets
I never write reviews, but this is such a frustrating experience that I hope the developers will see this and fix it. There must be a bug because when I go to purchase tickets, it has a button for “set payment” that is active and a button for “purchase now” that is grayed out. But it won’t click on the set payment option. Being able to buy and use tickets is literally the reason I bought the app. I also tried to buy tickets from the website that I could use on the app, but for some reason they don’t do that and you need a go-to card. Luckily I have cash, but otherwise I’d be screwed starting at a place that doesn’t have a ticket machine.

Purchasing tickets impossible
Longtime riders know that there’s no end to the issues of metro transit, but I have to say this app is the first time I’ve ever been outright prevented from purchasing a fare with them. Not only is practically nothing hosted on the app, but it literally refused to allow me to set payment onto a card, or use Apple Pay (despite having an entire button for it.) Beyond that, consistent crashes, endless loading screens, and being randomly logged out means that the app is as useful as throwing handfuls of loose change into the street and waiting for them to magically transform into bus tokens. Save your time, buy a transit pass, or start carrying small bills, or try Uber - an app that actually functions!

Frustrated.
I literally never write app reviews, but after downloading this one I felt obligated to write so the developers can fix it. Seriously, this app is horrendous. All I wanted to do was buy a bus ticket to the state fair (something that the app should 100% be designed to do, considering that’s their service). After going through multiple screens, I sat waiting for 5 minutes while it “loaded” the payment page. Only problem is the page never came up. There’s nowhere else to purchase tickets except in person with cash, not even the website. Seriously. Figure it out. Get rid of whatever excuse for an app developer you have now and hire a real software engineer.

Buggy
I’m not particularly excited about the look and feel of the update. It’s rather bleak and confusing to me. Also there seems to be a bug issue with my device. Upon getting through the order for the ticket needed, pressing the ‘Set Payment’ button completely crashes/closes the app. No errors, frozen screen to show I just get booted. I am currently running iOS 13.6 on a 11 Max all other apps work and have worked flawlessly so I do not need or want an update to iOS 14. I hope you can find and fix this bug because the old app was a handy tool to have as a resource.

So far so good
Just made an account and bought a ticket. It took me 1 minute from app download to ticket activation. In fact, I did it all between the time it took the train to get from one stop to next. Was worried about the reviews, but since I left my wallet at home, it was worth a shot. Thank god I did😹 bottom line: it’s been a few minutes and still works great for it’s stated purpose. 4.6/5

Password problems
Well this is my issue on the app every darn time I go to login with my password it never works and I have to always reset my password every time sick of it what’s wrong with this dumb app can’t get any sense of it I have to always put my card number in when I need to load my go to card too put some cash it so difficult I like to go to Cub Foods to load my card but having the app is a fine thing cause times I don’t feel like going out not be feeling good please fix this app people stop being dam lazy

It works but gets increasingly clunky
The newest update added more steps to buying tickets. The goal should only be on simplifying. Why not have a “usual purchase” so we can do one-click buying? While I’m at it, why not have a built-in browser for maps, etc., if you’re not going to have those things built in (which would be better). But it does work to buy tickets.

Can’t make purchases
I’ve been using this app for years and then suddenly I can’t buy tickets on here anymore. It will always say that “payment failed” even though I have money in my account. I’ll try to input another card and it will say “unexpected error—try again in a few seconds” and despite trying again and again, it doesn’t go through. Try another card, same thing. I don’t carry cash so it’s pretty inconvenient and it’s disappointing because it was a really cool feature.

Last update broke the app.
App does what it needs to do. But trying to purchase a ticket takes so long to do. Open it up hit purchase ticket and just get a spinning bar for a minute or so. Before the last update it was so fast to do what I needed to do. Now I have to open the app hit the button and continue getting ready for work before it’ll do anything.

Bad Redesign, Won’t Work
I’m currently waiting for the bus and the app simply refuses to let me buy a ticket. My payment method is working fine, everything else on my phone is working, but the app keeps saying “please wait” when I try to purchase a ticket. Hope the bus driver is nice enough to let me on so I can get home! The redesigned app is ugly and nonfunctional. Opening the FAQ page outside of the app is also annoying, I don’t know who was in charge of the UI on this new app but they did a terrible job.

So far so good
Using the app for the Taylor Swift concert and found purchasing tickets to be pretty straightforward. I had to reference the Metro Transit site a few times to make sure I was selecting the right pass. Using the app definitely requires an understanding of how the metro transit system works and most of that is on their site, not in the app.

Doesn’t show bus schedule
The app doesn’t show bus schedules. Google Maps is unreliable with bus schedules. Unless you’ve taken a picture of the schedule at one of the major transfer stations there’s NO WAY of getting an updated schedule. Many times I’ve been at stop 444 at MOA and the bus doesn’t come. It’s a frustrating transit system and the app has SO MUCH POTENTIAL to make it easier for the commuter and they refuse to. The app ONLY allows you to pay for ticket’s beforehand. WHEN ACCURATE SCHEDULES ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT !!

MetroTransit needs to do better for citizens
The fact that this app still doesn’t work after a year is embarrassing for MetroTransit. They still promote it on their website as a reliable way to pay, but it’s simply not. People don’t have access to cash like they used to, and it makes public transport even harder to use and than it already is. Get with the times and have a functioning app like every other urban transport system.

App doesn’t allow ticket purchase
The app has very bad UX/UI because it does not let me buy tickets. I select the fare > I select “add to cart” > I select “confirm purchase” > then nothing. The screen has two buttons: “set payment” and “purchase”. The purchase button is grayed out and non-functional, so I tap the “set payment” button, but it does not work—nothing happens. Fix this! What is the point of the app if it can’t do the very thing for which people download it.

Worse than bad
One star review. Before the “improved” version I could buy a week’s worth of tickets at once. It took about 5 clicks to buy all of my tickets for the week. Now each ticket is a separate credit card transaction. And every action that used to take one click, takes multiple clicks. That means that it takes 10 separate purchases and a total of 90 clicks to buy my tickets for the week. (Yes, I got annoyed enough to count.)

Inconsistent..
When I least expect it the app (which has my password saved) will randomly ask me to re-enter my user name and passwords. When you are constantly buying tickets (often last minute) and the app locks you out you are screwed. This happened to me as recently as last Thursday. Today I can only buy “express” tickets. The app will not allow me to purchase “local” tickets. I rack up more Uber Rides because of the app..

Worthless
This app is absolutely worthless! Everything you click on in the app just opens your browser and takes you to the Metro Transit website. So what’s the point of the app if everything you want to see in the app isn’t even on the app? Whoever designed this app is either lazy or doesn’t know how apps are supposed to work. Save yourself the storage space and just bookmark the website on your browser. App deleted!

Unintuitive, Buying Tickets Doesn’t Work
Tried to use MVTA app but bus driver mentioned this is actually the correct app, and that it’s a common mistake since busses are marked with MVTA logo. I don’t care what bureaucratic reason there is for having two separate apps, one of which is entirely non-functional, MVTA needs to figure out a working mobile payment solution for the twin cities area—it’s an accessibility and equity issue besides being extremely annoying.

Terrible Not User Friendly
Can’t upload your to go card, it doesn’t show the times of the routes or any schedules, everything you click in the app redirects you to the Internet isn’t functional just buy tickets on the website instead of downloading the app waste of phone space! Takes 10 minutes and 100 questions just to purchase a ticket too much of a hassle!

Works for me
Paid for full fare ticket via using Apple Pay. It added the ticket to “My Tickets” purchase list. I activated ticket just before Metro T bus arrived and just showed bus operator the ticket on the phone. No scanning necessary.

Weak Effort- Can’t E-transfer passes
There’s two things I don’t like about this app: 1: App purchased tickets are not electronically transferable to wallet/text/email so you’re out the money if you can’t use the passes. (State Fair) 2. The 4 pass option comes as one icon-blob so all must be used at once. Click the blob and time starts counting down. That was not the case years prior. Single vs multi pass are the same price per pass anyway. I will not use this app again for fear I’ll lose the money if I can’t use the pass rather than be able to transfer to someone who can use them. Apps are supposed to be more user convenient Than text/email and that’s simply not the case here.

Zero stars
If I could rate this less than one star I would. Like of unbelievable that Metro Transit would remove the ability to pay with cash or credit card, not put ticket machines within walking distance of most locations, and then create an app as unstable and worthless as this one. That is especially true given that we live in a place that regularly experiences sub-zero temps. C’mon guys, this isn’t rocket science!

Immediately not working
Just downloaded app tonight. I tapped through to get tickets. Try to checkout but when I tap “set payment” nothing happens. It will not let me pay. I’ve had the app for 10 minutes and it doesn’t even work. Metro transit needs to seriously invest in a developer who can make this run smoothly, considering how many people use public transport. This app is a joke.

New update makes user experience more difficult. Also don't appreciate how dark you made it. Having the next trip feature load in a web page is also super annoying. Preferred it before the new update.

Won’t load payment page
It seems this is an issue others have commented on too since the last update t months ago, just letting y’all know the payments issue is still not working. I just moved here, don’t carry cash, and I don’t live close to a place that sells passes. The app is a great idea but I guess I’ll be catching a Lyft to cub foods to be able to use the buses…

Useful
This is a super easy app to use for its purpose, which is to buy and redeem bus fares. It’s not too flashy but very funcional and can be used offline. Just as easy as a Togo card

This app is pretty much unusable.
If you want to find all the places in the twin cities where you can’t buy a fare card, it works great. Or if you want to spend hours trying to make the trip planner show you an actual trip instead of “no route available”, then this app is for you. If you want to actually use Metro Transit, it’s not so great.

Still not working
I gave it a shot despite the negative reviews. It appears the same problem exists regarding paying for the tickets. When it came time to pay for the ticket I selected, to Set Payment or Purchase Now, neither button works. Something I noticed was right when I opened the app, a popup said “Stripe initialization error”.

New update made app hard to use.
It takes a lot of steps to buy a ticket. I also wasn’t able to find a way to buy multiple tickets so now I have a lot of charges for buying single tickets. Aesthetic is poorly designed.

Please bring back the ability to buy multiple tickets
New update is needlessly complicated. A separate transaction to buy each ticket is completely unnecessary and fills up my bank statement with $1-$2.50 transactions. It hasn’t yet but I can foresee this causing issues with my bank. There was nothing wrong with the old app format.

I have to give them some credit - literally everything got worse with this app update. Tickets can’t be purchased more than one at a time or organized in any coherent way, Nextrip still just links to the website, and the UI went from fine to completely hideous. Great job guys

Holidays
Not every holiday is accounted for so instead of paying two dollars I have to pay $2.50 which isn’t a huge deal but if I already bought my two dollar ticket now I have to buy a $2.50 ticket

Terrible
I am giving this App one star because I can’t give it zero. After going through the process of entering all the info to buy Metro tickets for family, I get to the purchase button and … nothing. Doesn’t work. Can’t actually buy tickets on an App whose primary purpose is to sell Metro tickets.

I would second every bad review I’ve read so far regarding the update. And I would like to add that besides the new UI being ugly and not user friendly the thing that annoys me the most is that now we can only purchase a ticket at a time instead of multiple at a time.

Loading Issue
When you select the app install link from the Mn Transit page the app never loads. You have to search for it directly from the App Store. After installing the app, purchasing tickets is next to impossible because the payment page never loads.

Partial App with bad web links
Trip planner, possibly one of the most useful navigation tools is simply is a link to the horrible webpage that does not function well on mobile device either. App is not helpful and a waste of space. Recommend skipping this app and just book mark janky webpage

Didn’t work
The app got stuck on the sign up screen, and wouldn’t move on to the next screen, no matter how many times i tapped the Next button. All the fields were filled in, and I didn’t see any feedback about how they should be filled in differently.

Buggy on Payment. Meh experience
Like many others, I’ve also experienced a lot of issues adding a credit card or purchasing a ticket. Often times I need to force quit the app and try a second time for it to work. Both my partner and I had an issue adding our first card. Really wish MetroTransit offered ApplePay to just tap your phone on the reader (like Chicago, SF, etc) But I guess it’s better than nothing, so I’ll give it an extra star.

Buggy and Clunky UI
Wouldn’t let me actually pay for tickets when I added the two to the cart, just left me with a nom functioning Set Pay button. Had to purchase one at a time to use ApplePay.

Poor update
New update is not user friendly. Can’t use your current location to find next bus, only by the 4-6 digit stop numbers, good luck with that. Hope they can fix this, it seemed to be working just fine til ya f’ed it up

Can’t purchase ticket
I must second a previous review which says there is a bug in this app, which does not allow the user to set a payment method, so if you are planning to use the app to purchase a ticket, don’t. It doesn’t work as of today, Aug. 13, 2023.
