Asked to press home button to make sure smoke detection was working properly, and stated if it did not send response to user to contact the company. Pressed home button and orange light came on, but app did not respond. Don't know if it works?
I have two minut devices. One I have had for perhaps 4 years, the other I got last year. I loved the first one so much I got the second and use them in Airbnbs that I run. The problem is the app. And I should say more recent changes to the app, and lack of response to complaints and fixes. Right now the app does not say current times and is not updating, so it is not recording movement in the rentals, temperature or any relevant information. I noticed it last night, emailed them, no response still, 24 hours later. That is really bad service. I would recommend a different company altogether. EDIT: I have beeb advised today, almost a week later!! That my subscription has been “cancelled” (I did not cancel it) and that is why, it apparent stopped updating. So prepare for random cancellations if you sign up for this!! DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE!!
Minut’s software and (especially) hardware are some of the best-designed among my many IOT devices. The level of detail in functionality, and number of things that the little device can do are fantastic. I bought it to monitor my Airbnb for parties and smoke alarms, but also repurposed it to keep an eye on my sourdough bread fermentation temperatures. My only gripe with the software is every time I have to make several taps to get to see my Minut unit’s status, and the temperature screen. It would be great if it defaulted to displaying a Minut unit if you only have one, and also if you could reorder which metrics you want to see (e.g. if you are more interested in temperature than motion).
Minut install took five minutes with a simple magnetic hanging system. Adjusting the settings takes a couple days of trial and error but landing on the right balance of settings is key. We’ve had a few fire alarms from smoke due to smoking and received a text instantly. It’s nice to have that piece of mind for times when you may not be home. While we aren’t normally super loud in the duplex we live in it’s nice to receive a warm g when our noise level reaches a point at night that would be disruptive to our neighbors so we can adjust volumes if needed. I didn’t anticipate this being a plus but the convenience of an optional night light feature for using the restroom in the middle of the night is priceless. The device does connect to Alexa and Google Home but I’d like to see more integration by voice command for when I leave the house.
I keep getting alerts that things are too loud in my rental. It is part of my home, so I’m able to hear everything that goes on. So far when I get the alerts that it’s being too loud, I am the only one at home and in the rental. No music, and I’m a writer, so I’m sitting here in silence and keep getting alerts that the people in the Rental are being too loud. There is no noise and there are no people there. Multiple times. Thank goodness I am on site or I would’ve been contacting renters accusing them of being too loud, which would’ve made me look like a horrible host when they weren’t even there!
Had a different noise monitor that just never seemed to work right. The Minut device is so much better at picking up problem noises. It’s alerted us twice when the smoke alarm in our house went off, and I’ve tested it by purposefully playing music loud or making other loud noises and it seems to be 100% accurate. Love the features of knowing the temp and humidity — a great way to make sure our rental is safe.
I’m biased having had a hand in creating this, but it’s probably the simplest home alarm that exists. You mount a single Point inside your apartment in seconds and get the same experience as you would with a full home alarm with dozens of sensors around your home. Try it out!
I bought three of these units to test for the new beta feature of smoking detection, and my wife and I have tried everything to see if it can generate an alert. we’ve tried to light cigarettes, puff, vape, excessively, and even lit up a marijuana joint… nothing triggers and I don’t even know this technology works at all… The good news is that also triggers on the false positive side either but I suspect that’s the whole cigarette detection feature just doesn’t work…
I’m extremely upset. Renters gave stunk up my airbnb more than 10 times already and despite advertising smoking detection, it doesn’t detect smoke at all. Even blowing a cigarette into it in a box doesn’t work at all!!!!! False advertising! Don’t even get me started on the Alert system, as what the other reviewers stated, it takes more than 4 clicks to get anything done. Waste of my time and money!
Bought 3 of these and I just like the way they work Set up was easy, the App just gorgeous I could not be more happy of my purchase and it will get better each time it gets updated Now in order to be perfect I am waiting for the HomeKit integration which should be soon.
Not from noise but from the cranky old lady who keeps calling in noise complaints that I can then prove are false. After she knew I had Minut she stopped.
Originally bought when all the functionality I needed was provided for free. Without warning, all that functionality was hidden behind a paywall. Now I’m left with an expensive coaster and the company refuses to refund me.
What is not clearly explained is that once you buy it it the sensor can not be added to the app you have to choose a plan to add a home an then you will be able to add a sensor.
No meaningful updates to this app for years. Poor user experience. E.g. it takes 4 clicks to enable and disable your alarm. Which I assume for most users is the primary use case.
Setup was pretty simple. The noise monitoring could use some work — I don’t agree with the duration of noise having to be 5 minutes before you get an alert. 5 minutes in, a neighbor has likely already called the police so the notification is not serving it’s purpose. Also it would be nice to have instant alerts for excessively high sounds. An example would be if someone was firing a gun, you wouldn’t get an alert because it’s not (hopefully) going off for 5 minutes. When you have students and parties - you have to think about and plan for the unexpected. The things you don’t plan for will happen and there’s been several shootings at parties here. It would also be nice to have a panic button option for the alarm and/or a code override because I’ve cut it close where the alarm almost went off because the geofencing wasn’t updating my physical location for whatever reason and you can hear the beeps as the alarm counts down.
Bought a sensor. After charging the device, the app shows no way to connect it. I’ve tried searching the Internet, including Minut's YouTube page for help with absolutely zero success. How could they possibly make something this counter intuitive? Over $100 down the drain!
