Mountaineer is free, I know, craaazy. When I’m ready to hit the slopes I just open up the app and a vans gonna be there within 15 minutes. The drivers are always super friendly and I have had some awesome conversations. Sometimes when traffic gets backed up it can be inconvenient, but it’s much better then driving yourself. On some days when too many people are using cellular, the app can get jammed up. Even with this being said it is still a really great service and I highly recommend it.
Apps loads quickly, with accurate time estimates, continuous updates on ride arrival. Has the option of calling. A much needed service in the area. Would be nice if the service extends after 9pm, may be to 10pm during weekends and holidays would be even better. Had some initial problems with the accuracy of the ‘current location’ so had to cancel and re-select using the ‘hotels’ menu. Drivers are friendly and efficient. Great service!
Wow, This service makes squaw. The app and service are wonderful. I’m a harshish critic normally so that is saying something. The wait time accuracies have improved over last year. The simplicity of the UI is great. I just want the alpine shuttle real time location to be added to help squaw residents who want to use the shuttle to alpine also to save that drive. Please add this or create another app. Thanks!
This service doesn’t bridge Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows. The service essentially provides two disconnected loops — one within the Squaw Valley and one with the Alpine Meadow valley. It doesn’t go outside these valleys to other desired locations. So, it effectively is a last mile service that doesn’t do very much to tackle the transportation issues of the region (removing cars from roads) or offer a better alternative to existing services for locations outside one’s valley. I had high hopes for this service, but was really disappointed when I actually tried to use it. If you spend all your time within one valley, I suppose it’s great.
Mountaineer is the best! I’ve been leasing in Squaw Valley for 10 years and this is really making a difference in terms of traffic, parking and convenience. Service is prompt and drivers great. Thank you so much for offering this service. Keep it going!
Very good idea for the service. Trucks are spacious and the drivers are nice. App is very easy to use. However I only give 3 stars because of the terrible back end. Waiting times are unreliable and you can end waiting 30 minutes in peak hour when it announces 8 minutes. The most annoying part is that it keeps adding time when you have 4 or 5 minutes left. This makes me consider taking my car anyway.
Great service for transportation within Squaw Valley if we knew when the shuttle will come. Unfortunately, the app does a very poor job of forecasting how long it will take for the shuttle to arrive for pickup. It kept changing from 15 min to 18 min, then to 5 min, and back to 12 min in a matter of few minutes. Not very comforting when we are waiting for a ride. The app does *not* show where the shuttle currently is. Also, we need to rush out after dinner since it ends service at 9pm.
We were stranded for 3 hours after an even at Palisades waiting for a shuttle. The worst part was that it said a 90 minute pick up and about every time it dropped to 30 or 20 minutes left…it would jump back to 90. The terrible communication made our situation so much worst because we didn’t truly know when the ride would come. 3 hours in the cold because all the bars and restaurants were full. Truly a terrible service
This is an awesome service for Squaw/Alpine. The drivers are friendly and exceptionally courteous. I’ve used the app probably 40 times already this winter.
It’s been really helpful to me and my guests to have ride service. Let’s hope they can figure out how to expand into Tahoe city and between Squaw and alpine. Its also disappointing that its only weekend service on the alpine side
A FANTASTIC addition to the community.. now I don’t have to worry about taking my car everywhere and when my in-laws are here they don’t have to rent one. A+
Waited for 20 min, just to have the shuttle pass by as I was waving at it. No idea if it was full or there was some other reason. And no way to find out, as there is no phone number to call.
