I was very skeptical of this service at first but tried because I needed a car for a short period of time. I was moving from the United States to Germany and my car broke down three months before my move. It did not make sense to buy a car for that short time so I tried a car subscription service. Flexcar was very easy to work with. I booked my car from the app. All features are pretty much automated. It was easy for me to check my mileage and I had the option to change cars if I wanted. I only had to call customer support twice (once to book the car and once to return it). Both times I called the representatives were very helpful and friendly. Everything went very smoothly and the service worked for me completely as advertised. If you are in need of a car for a short period of time consider giving this a a try!
This app is more or less unnecessary, as you need to call them to initiate a return. I would say it worked to book the car, but the car was not even close to the pickup location on the Sunday I went to pick it up. So I had to call and was told to return on Monday, and that I’d be given a $25 for an Uber, which still hasn’t happened. Moving on, I go back on Monday and look at my receipt and see I have to return it the following Sunday. Odd, but I see the receipt was not adjusted to show the pickup occurred a day late, so I assume the return is actually the following Monday. Wrong, they hit me with another week’s charge that following Sunday. I call and they are closed. Hmm, call back on Monday (they open at 8 but don’t pick up until around 9) and any empathy? Nope, not even a partial credit if I bring the car back right away, which I did anyway. So at that point, they have me for my deposit of $250 + 2 weeks of use, when in reality I’ve had the car for roughly 6.5 days. So that’s $410 right there. What choice but to get the deposit back immediately and forfeit the additional week they already charged me for. Fix the pilot or don’t expand your shady cash grab. Someone else will do it fairly.
Was also not surprised to see the negative reviews left on Yelp (check those out as well). I had a car for two weeks and was on day 1 of week 3 when I misplaced the key in the hustle of getting out the door with a baby. After 8+ hours, 2 days, and 3 people looking, I decided to call Flexcar. They let me know they would have to tow the car and once it was returned I could apply for a new one. Rather than sit on a car I couldn’t use and wait for the key to turn up, I decided this was the best option. When I went to apply for the new car, my request was cancelled (after taking my money, of course). When I called I was informed that because I had lost the key I was no longer able to use their service. Owned a car for 13 years, never lost the key. One mistake and I’m banned as a customer. Odd business practice for a company looking to grow - kick out would-be loyal customers for an honest mistake. Especially when you’re making money off of them (paid for the key + a week of rental that I had for one day). Anyways mistakes happen and usually companies work with you. Not this one. Beware. I’d hate to see what happens if you accidentally spill or scratch, etc.
Great alternative for those, who cannot pay interest ( riba) due to religious or financial issues, have less than stellar credit or are simply in need of a reliable car until they can get their car repaired, replaced or purchase a new/used one.
Flexcar literally not figuratively just attempted to steal $430 from. Scheduled a pick up for 8/15 on 8/13. Paid for everything and got a confirmation email from Flexcar. Then I get another email stating that they have canceled my order internally and they will process my refund. After a couple days of no refund and my bank confirming nothing is pending, I reached back out to Flexcar and spoke with a supervisor who told me that while they canceled my order no one bothered to process my refund so it’s been sitting there. “Waiting for me”. I literally hate the customer service side of flex car, the cars are fine, but the customer service is THE WORST. They will attempt to rob you, delay your pick ups, change your cars color right before you are set to pick up. 10/10 would NOT recommend you using this service. I repeat DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE, they will take your money for literally no reason not provide you with a car and not do anything to fix what they have stated is an internal mistake. If they can’t fix there mistakes they cannot be trusted.
I rented to just see if it is worth it and it is NOT. You might as well get you a car note or just rent the regular way or Hyercar. They get you with the mileage. $110 a week for the car and over $300 in mileage. People have to commute and run errands. So if you don’t work close to home and do everything literally by home I DO NOT RECOMMEND at all!! Like I said the pick up and drop off was easy. Also my best friend has a rental car with them right now check engine light on. She had to call rode side and the guy told them the car needs a new battery or alternator, they have yet to switch out her vehicle smh but y’all want your money on time. Y’all could have a good program but you all need to do A LOT more work and thinking to do to come up with a better system because I don’t see you all sticking around long. When you have companies like HyreCar where you can drive up to 500+ miles a day and pay 300+ a week just saying.
Only giving one star because it makes you give at least one to leave a review. I attempted to use this service to get around to work after months of being unemployed after losing my job. I set up my account and all of my information was confirmed and verified. Finally got my first check and paid my deposit only for them to email my seconds later saying they would actually be unable to approve me. Now I have to wait days for a refund after it took y’all seconds to take my money. I do not live near public transportation and will have to miss work or spend EXTRA unnecessary money to get around. My question is, why do you take peoples money before you’re done processing an application???? Shouldn’t you verify all details you need before payment? Because if our money is take we’re assuming that everything is good to go. First and last time patronizing this company.
DYSTOPIAN POLICING ALERT! Flexcar sees ALL of your driving patterns and will suspend your account if they arbitrarily deem your driving patterns unsafe. Welcome to the dystopian age, folks! Additionally, billing visibility is not something Flexcar does well! Sure, the price for the mileage plan and the insurance were straightforward, but WTH is this subscription fee I have to pay if I keep a car for over two weeks?! And I’m forced to pay for 200 miles upfront when selecting the low mileage plan? This information needs to be present when I book the car and make the initial payment. Totally deceptive startup practices here!! I really want to like this app and service, but don’t mislead me with the total payment will be!! FYI it comes to over $700 for the first month with the cheapest mileage plan!! Definitely not what was advertised!!
Decent if you’re not able to put down for a car at the moment, but if you can, you might as well pay for a car note and insurance, because you’ll be paying the same as that with Flexcar unless you literally don’t drive much at all. On top of that. These greedy mfkrs just raised their prices. Example: a Honda Civic use to be $280/month to rent with 40 cents a mile. Now it’s $325/month with 45 cents a mile. Their most expensive car use to be $600/month, 50 cents a mile, and now it’s $1,025/month with 55 cents a mile. Like what’s even the point anymore? I could rent at Hertz for a month for that price and not have to pay for miles.
Tried for the first time, paid $700 and was told that the car will be delivered today between 10am-2pm. Waited until 1:10pm and decided to call to see what the status is. I called 3 times, waited over 20mins for each call, and was hung up on all 3 times without being able to talk to anybody. Then I receive a text message that my car will be delivered between 2:30pm-3pm. I wont be available at that time because I have to go pick up my kids from school. On the website and the automated message on the phone says that cancelling your order is “quick and easy” and could be done on the app - LIESSSS!! You have to cancel by speaking to a customer service rep; GOOD LUCK WITH THAT! Never again!!
Unlike other car rental companies where a week would be from the day and time you pick the car up to the next week at the same day and time (eg. Monday 12pm to next Monday 12pm), this company charges you for a week after only having the car for six days. So if you pick the car up Monday you have to bring it back Sunday. Otherwise you will be charged for an entirely new week. You will be charged for having had the car for two weeks when you have technically only had it for six days.
False advertisement/ won’t lease if you have anything on driving record
I’ve applied to use the car for a month and I received an email the following day saying my reservation was cancelled and didn’t give me any detail on what the issue was, I called them and they said it was because of my driving record!!!! I have a point or two on my license because I drove my old car with a broken tail light and that’s why they couldn’t lease the vehicle, at no point was ever stated that the leasing depends on your driving record, overall customer was okay but overall service was bad, wouldn’t recommend to anyone.
Rejection due to driver record, not fault accidents
I was denied a membership & non-membership due to recent accident in my own vehicle that was not my fault. Flexcar does not take into consideration that accidents happen to anyone and just because it’s reported on state records does not mean you are at fault. You have to wait 3-5 days to receive your deposit and first payment which is between $500-$650. There needs to be better business protocol with people trying to access services. I don’t recommend this service to anyone who’s in need of a car for travel to school and work. 0-1 stars for application/background checks
I read the poor reviews and thought it was mostly users not thoroughly reading the terms, but I gave it a try because it seems great. The car simply wouldn’t unlock. I called support and was on hold for 20 minutes until they hung up on me. Then I was on hold again for 30 minutes while they tried to open the car to no avail. So I just stood in the parking lot for over 30 minutes while it was 40 degrees outside. They couldn’t get me another car until the NEXT day! So I am just canceling it and they said I should get a full refund. They also said I would get a refund of my $199 I paid for the subscription… I will update if I get that back or not. The software/application is poor quality. If it fails you will be stranded because they don’t have anyone to come help you. Avoid this company… which is a shame because the idea is solid. Very poor user experience though.
Have had service almost a year. Initially loved Flexcar after paying yearly membership fee and ability to get a variety cars weekly as needed. Then they ended weekly unexpectedly and now require a full month rental while increasing the mileage rate (not what I paid for with my membership!). Constant issues with App, from rejected bookings due to phantom payment issues to then saying cars available on a date only to find they are not when you go to final booking. Amateur hour, they’ve ruined a great service. Can no longer recommend.
The mileage is RIDICULOUS!!! You pay so much money in a week more than you do in a month! I don’t understand paying for mileage if I have to pay every month. It is a hassle trying to avoid paying $45 every time you need more miles. I wish they do better on that because I see a lot of reviews complaining about it. Also I hate all the emails threatening to repo the car if the balance is not paid down when in reality we should not be paying for mileage.
Don’t waste your time as I did with this organization. Clearly struggling with their platforms and the vendors that send them information about your credit and driving record are useless. Said credit was frozen when it wasn’t - spent days waiting for their system to “update” then received notice they couldn’t rent to me due to my driving record which is flawless but again couldn’t provide any insight and told me to contact the DMV. Was going to rent a car for several months but not now.
A Flexcar reservation I made was ruined when someone stole my wallet. The day I was scheduled to pick-up the car, I contacted Flexcar to let them know that my wallet had been stolen and that my license was inside. However, I was prepared and had already gone through the steps to get not only a temporary drivers license, but also a virtual drivers license from the Georgia DMV. I tried to verify my identity with Flexcar using certified state paperwork but was ultimately reject. The lack of accomodation was very disappointing.
They are constantly changing their policies to make the most profit hindering the customer. They changed the ability to reserve car by the week forcing you to pay for a month even if you do not require for that long. There is also a service fee that was recently implemented. You use to not have to have a membership to reserve a car but not needed. What use to be an affordable option now just becomes a money pit. Stay away.
Flexcar could not have handled a situation worse. The odometer quit reporting to them, but no problem with the odometer itself. I missed a maintenance appt, apologized, tried to set up a new one. No. Could I swap? No. Send roadside assistance to fix the car? No. They sent a repossession agent!! As If I was hiding the car!! SO many better ways to deal with my situation. Lost a customer, lost payment on mileage. Stupid way to do business—losing money.
The cars listed vs actual car availability and the days they can be ready are wildly inaccurate. I’ve run into issues several times with choosing a car because it says it can be available on a day then finding out after booking that it can’t and having to pour more money and time into finding alternatives.
Bad rental experience and bad customer care experience. Better rent at hertz with AAA membership
I have booked a car with them recently and have quiet a few complaints. 1. The car that I got didn’t have all the features mentioned. 2. The car smelt nice on day 1 after a couple of days the air vents stunk bad. No service covered for that. They only provide external wash. 3. The customer care is real bad they won’t respond promptly. 4. They charge an additional fee of 250$ for membership. I can get the car monthly from hertz at 500$ with AAA/ even Costco travel, with same basic liability coverage Flexcar provides.
Getting a car initially was simple but Swapping a car is too difficult. No one picks up the phone during business hours and I’ve requested a vehicle only to be told it is unavailable the day before. The logistics just seem to be off and should be a lot simpler overall.
I wish I could give 0 star. Made a 1 month order+membership, got car on Monday and cannot unlock the car on Wednesday. The company sent a jumper on Thursday and it doesn’t work, it turned out to be alternator issue. Have the car towed on Friday and got the swap. Take 3days to deal with this and my boss got unhappy. Then!!!! I got the swap on Friday right? The check engine was on on Saturday! Took my weekend to get it examined——cooling system issue, suggested not to drive. Got towed again. And the Flexcar even not willing to reimburse the uber to pick up the swap! Now I want them to pay for all my loss. So angry!
I was told that if I opted in for the annual membership weekly mileage usage would be capped but that isn’t true at all. I contacted support and they emailed me back with a link to their website to read an article, not answering my question directly. Unfortunately I will be returning. I believe I was told the wrong information so I would subscribe to the membership.
I schedule swap car at 8:30am. In the email it said call them when arive. And says, theri working hour is08:30am. But when i called, the phone told me the begin at 9am. Then i wait another hour. Now its.9.24. I still waiting for calls. Really bad customer service. really bad experience.
These people are thieves. Be careful, charges me $680 for a crack in the drivers mirror. At a mechanic this will cost $150 max. Was not able to pay my daughter's day car because of this. There is a part of business that should come with moral and ethics and they just don't have it.
Have used it for many years without issue. I finally needed maintenance on my current vehicle that I have had for 4 months. Oh boy. They proceeded to argue with me how the vehicle didn’t maintenance because their computer said it didn’t maintenance yet.
Availability and prices displayed widely different. Plus the DL upload and verification process is horrible. Keeps saying to remain steady while taking DL picture., before giving up finally. No number to call for support and resolution.
I tried logging in and was told to update the app. I did and when I try to open the app I’m told it is out of date and can’t get into the app anymore cause I’m stuck in a loop
The only thing I was most skeptical about was the reviews about ppl getting in accidents and getting replacement vehicles. I must have manifested this because before my membership fee a lady ran through her stop sign and hit me. She took fault, I’ve talked to insurance companies etc. gotten the car towed, submitted picture and the report the night of the accident. Flexcar stated the process should only take three days and I’m on week two with NO CAR and I’ve called everyday on my lunch break for an update. I’ve gotten conflicting info every time. “We’re waiting on an inspector” “We need to confirm that the car has been returned to the hub” (two agents confirmed it has AND said they had a delay with sending an agent out). Etc. I’ve been nothing but pleasant with every person that I’ve spoken to and I’ve also asked for follow up’s and NEVER GOTTEN ONE. I’ve even told them to just shoot me an email because I understand it gets busy. One lady who was originally assigned to my case, hasn’t responded to any of my emails. I think this is ridiculous. I’ve been terribly inconvenienced and I can’t get support to give me a solid update. Outside of this the process to get the car was quick and painless but you all need a new process on keeping your customers updated. If someone’s paying a membership then maybe make sure you reach back out to them. At least get some kind of team dedicated to it. I think this is unacceptable. If you use Flexcar, make sure you don’t get in an accident because it’s going to be worthless to have the service. This one star is not for the app, it’s for the service. FOLLOW UP WITH YOUR CUSTOMERS!
I’d love to try this service, but sadly I can’t even get past the verification process because when I get the code to verify, there’s nowhere to put the code in on the screen it’s just a white screen, but I can’t type the code in please help.
I was able to login into my account but that’s about it. App home shows “No internet connection” I tried on wifi and on data. I thought it was my iPhone but everything else is working fine. Emailed support but they didn’t provide any helpful tip for the app. The web version returned a 403 error code when trying to pay. Couldn’t rent a car on time to pick family from airport :(
