Version 6 of the app has taken a significant turn for the worse for usability. It is obvious that those designing it did not try to use it in practice. It is now more like an ad than a tool to help you shop. In particular the shopping lists implementation is horrible compared to the older iterations to the point of being unusable. First, shopping lists are now buried in the More… menu, not directly found on the home page. Once you find the lists, there are too many steps to add an item. The search capability is laughable. You have to know exactly what the item you want to add is named and even then you either get too many “hits” (trying to find “milk” presents a long list of possibilities including dog biscuits and “muscle milk” with little help to refine the list) or the app returns “not found”. There is also no feedback that an item has been added to a list- you have to go back into the list to verify that the item added correctly. I’m tech savvy and this app is a mess to use. It took me 20 minutes to find and add 12 items to a list. It’s bad design when you have to adapt to how a quirky app wants you to use it. I shudder to think how long a less experienced user would bang their heads against the wall then give up in frustration.
Absolutely impossible to find the items you want to add to your cart. This app used to be super easy to use and way better than the Stop and Shop one, which crashed when I used it. Being able to add items directly from the flyer view was a huge benefit. That’s gone now. You have to look at the flyer, remember what you want to add to your cart that’s on sale, locate the category you think it is in , expand that that category because all the items don’t automatically show up, then find your product…. I’m better off writing a shopping list like the good ol days. Plus, when you load a Big Y savings offer, it does not add that item to your cart. You have to load the offer then go through the process stated above. Takes longer to make my list now, than it does to actually do the shopping. Apparently Big Y does not want to make it easy for people to shop the sale items.
Big Y is a great supermarket, but you wouldn’t know it when using this app. 1. The app somehow manages to fail at listing all the items available in the store. For a good while, I stopped going to Big Y because I would search for items (e.g., Special K cereal), and just a mere subset of flavors appear in app. When i stopped in store, the many flavors were on the shelves. I looked in the app while in store, and STILL those flavors did not appear in the inventory search! 2. Coupons don’t actually clip. 3. Impossible to view the weekly flyer I try to give benefit of doubt and wait for basic issues to be updated by their programmers, but nothing is ever fixed. I get the feeling that whoever does the software engineering has never actually shopped at store. There are multiple supermarkets in my area, but big Y has the worst app by far. It’s 2024; a large company that requires its customers use the app to access savings, but makes an app so user-UNfriendly, one can only conclude the app is actually intended to limit users’ savings. However, this doesn’t explain issue #1, which inherently results in people shopping elsewhere when their inventory search excludes a majority of items they actually sell.
It’s so much more difficult to use now, certain departments are not showing up. Plus why shop by department when i’ve been trained to scroll down to see every item on sale that week. The shopping list isn’t as easy as before. I will not shop there as much because of these changes. I’m kinda forced into just seeing the flier-view ad to even the sales, and even then, i can’t click on my favorite items to add them to my list like before. I’ll just use Stop-and-Shop, their website is way easier to use.
Why cant i search for every item in the store in the app? Shoprite and stop and shop and target all allow! Hey poor product manager how about a reply and let us know why its not on your roadmap! Update may: new app is a bit better as you can finally view the entire store. However, its not accurate! I see many things in app and when I get to the store they do not have them. No, it is not because they are out of stock. If the app developers need more info how about they do their job and reply to reviews!
This app is virtually useless- constantly crashing, and the search feature is absolutely the worst of any app I have used!! For simple searches such as “corn” it says “no results”- impossible to use, frustrating, and aside from the rare times I can load my coupons on the app, it is useless! Big Y, take a lesson from the Stop and Shop app developers, they have figured it out!
I like the app. I have obtained several good deals using it. The coupons are easy to clip, and I’ve had no problems with the sale prices at the checkout. My biggest dislike is the search engine. Say you type in peanut butter into the search: you will get like 2 results for peanut butter and 4 results for peanut butter ice cream, rather than showing results for every brand and type of peanut butter available for purchase.
This app has become extremely difficult and tedious to use. It was so much better before when you can see every item on sale each week by scrolling down the page and tapping a button to add it to your shopping list. Now you have to go department by department. (Not all the departments even show) Then you need to go by category within the department, and if there’s a lot of items on sale in a particular category, then you need to open up another list. That’s not all! When you want to add something to your shopping list, you need to choose a specific variety to add to your shopping list. Once it is added, Then you need to go ALL THE WAY BACK to the department list and do it ALL OVER again for more items. It is really too much. What took 5 minutes previously now takes so much longer and too maybe pages and loading screens. Less is more.
This app is overly complex which makes it very time consuming and frustrating to use. There are many rendering issues that should have been caught during testing. No Mather how I try, I can’t see all items on sale. Vertical scroll mixed with horizontal scroll that switches depending on the page you visit is counterintuitive. I could go on and on. Very very poor design and bad execution along with lack of testing and quality control equals crap! Deleted. I’ll check back in a few months to see if this app has been replaced.
In order to get savings now you have to use the app to load “savings” instead of just using your rewards card like it used to be (why? Who knows!) and I’ve never seen such an incomplete, buggy app. It’s like someone’s high school project from 2012. I wouldn’t be so mad if they didn’t make you use it. There’s clearly no beta testing. Not one feature of the app is bug free, not even the search feature, and they NEVER update it or try to fix it. It’s just insane. I can’t wrap my head a business in 2024 thinking this is acceptable.
I find I also shop at Stop and Shop but only for their great bread and pastry selections. I like Big Y much better as their prices are not as high as Stop and Shop. Love that they have Vegan and different food selections from all over. Meat section is top shelf along with there sea food section. I would highly recommend Big Y.
This app is not as user friendly and easy to use as it used to be. Adding items to your grocery list isn’t working like it used to, and it takes several steps to do so. In the old app you could add it directly from the first page instead of having to click on the item. Also, after you click on the item to add it, the app asks you to search for the item instead of just adding it to the list. Not a fan of the new update.
The app stopped working, I deleted it and reinstalled it, and still not working. Asked for help in store three times, the last of which was the delete and reinstall deal. Contacted BigY online- told to update. Since I reinstalled it…. I’m on your non-working current version. My advice to the tech people at BigY- can it and wind back to your previous version. So frustrating to have to “load” your digital coupons. Like- WHY? I’m already using your card. Why make additional layers of annoyance and non working rollovers?!? 😡kaywood7
Would you please make it so that I can delete the shopping list and create a new one every time I go shopping there? I have over 3000 items in that list and I can’t access any of it or delete any of it or create a new list. It’s totally frozen. The app is getting a little bit bit better, but please fix this!
Why did you have to go and change it so horribly? Before I could scroll the entire flyer from beginning to end on one screen. Now I have to go into each separate department, one by one, just to view what’s one sale. This is so tedious I’d rather just forget about it and shop elsewhere. At least Stop & Shop let’s me see everything all on one screen. If this is the future of the Big Y app/website then you’ve lost yourself a customer.
How can you take a highly functional app and turn it in to something useless? There are now about 3 extra steps just to browse the circular and even then the format makes it hard to select items. I can’t properly see what my weekly BigY items are since the text is covered by other pictures, it’s such a pain that we’ve done our last 2 weekly trips at ShopRite. Please bring back the last version!!!
So I got to check out the new big Y app that was upgraded. It kept buffering, and I found it annoying. The other app was good because it wasn’t buffering at all and was able to just go to pick what I wanted and go to the West Street store here in Pittsfield.
I can’t even log in on the app - when I put in the password and attempt to log in, the screen tells me a password is required even though it’s already in there. Tried changing the password and the issue remains. This happened in store while I was in the checkout line, which is inconvenient. Thankfully I still have the key tag so we didn’t have to look up via phone number.
This app just won’t recognize my account. Tried deleting and reinstalling. It won’t allow me to reset my password bc it says my email doesn’t exist. It won’t allow me to create a new account bc it says the email is already associated with an account. Been to 2 Big Y stores to get help from the customer service desk and they can’t figure it out. I give up, I’ll just shop somewhere else. 🤬
I see no reason why I have to sign in with a user name and password just to look for an item in a grocery store!! It’s ridiculous you have to create an account just to look at the price of eggs!! I gave up trying to remember my password and deleted the app! Look at Home Depot or Michael’s apps - you want an item, you type it in and it they tell you EXACTLY where you can find it! Apps that are actually useful
I would give a more fair review if the app would open more than 30% of the time. I usually have to log in the old fashioned way on the website to see/load my offers and coupons. This obviously defeats the purpose of the app. It wasn’t this bad before the update.
Please make the previous version of the Big Y shopping app available again. The current version is unusable and makes the shopping experience beyond frustrating. The D’Amour family has always been there for the community so it’s time to step up and step back to what works before your loyal customer base starts to look elsewhere. There are some who already have!!
First, this latest update doesn’t open on my iPad. And the updates shouldn’t be about frills like gas, but on basics like adding an offer or coupon should also offer the chance to add the item to shopping list. Offer emails or ads that say to post to my account should actually do that. And clicking an emailed offer should open in the app, assuming it’s installed, not on the website.
I couldn’t imagine why this poor quality app was developed and and distributed. I read other’s comments with a star and agreed on their experience. It is difficult to use in general. The shop websites are low quality. I was discouraged and frustrated by the website and installed the app on my iPhone. I hoped I could navigate smoothly and have good shopping experience. But not actually.
This app is almost unusable. It loads slowly and has crashed several times during each of my in-store shopping trips. There are constant login problems. It is difficult to find lists, browse, and load coupons, and the search feature yields confusing results. I regularly question why I haven’t deleted it yet.
To get some (but not all) store discounts you have to go through some convoluted search procedure in the app or you don’t get the sale price. I suppose to force you to open the app in-store when you are already in a hurry with a complaining kid with you and just want to finish shopping. Really, really exploitative and terrible user experience.
Normally I’m cool with app, normally give it a 3. But 2 cuz app opens just bigy logo and does nothing. I didn’t put an 1 cuz wanna give developers chance fix this first QUICKLY. I can’t use any discounts unless I load them
Wow, instead of just adding things to the shopping list, you have to click ‘add item’ every time & then watch a stupid graphic dreamt up by some marketing guru. Twice. Plus, they spaced out the entries so not as many fit on the screen- which wouldn’t be as big a problem if the app actually could connect through their in store WiFi.
I would describe this newest version of the Big Y flyer as a downgrade! It has limited information and is difficult to navigate! PLEASE, bring back the easy to read flyer! You will be losing customers if you choose to maintain this latest version of advertisement! I, for one, will be a lost unhappy customer!
The app was better before. I love big y but this app does not make sense and is not user friendly. I continuously fight to find simple products because the search option is impossible to use. So instead I scroll endlessly through the department products until I find why I need.
This shouldn’t be so bad. Things don’t load right in the app. Navigation is horrible. InstaCart does a better job displaying your products that you do. It’s like this app is from the original iPhone before people knew what they are doing. Really no excuse in 2023 when people know how do design good shopping apps.
Wow, it’s like you want to frustrate us! Please, this is not user friendly! Definitely needs to be simplified! Not all your shoppers are tech savvy and 30 years old. Remember many senior citizens are trying to use your app for whatever savings are possible with grocery prices still quite high. PLEASE change it back!
Now your search gives zero results for POTATO except recipes. At least I can look at the flyer. But I haven’t actually gone to your store for a long while. Stop and shop gets my business, because I can plan ahead with their app. Only thing that gets me to Big Y is when Polar soda is on sale.
The app used to be good but has taken a huge step backwards. It never remembers your username/password so you have to login or reset your password every time you open it and today neither the login or the password reset even worked. Fortunately I had a rewards card with me.
It is almost impossible to add in store special If you physically enter the store You should be able to get the items on sale Please reconsider your approach it is actually self defeating the desire to Go to the store & shop sad to shop
Difficult to pan up and down on on the flyers, “my offers” section only loads half the time. They have no problem raising prices along with profit margins (a friend is a dept mgr) but they don’t put money into the app and they no longer provide flyers, they direct you to the app.
This app used to be so easy to navigate, find items and add to your shopping list. The update is awful - it doesnt display all sale items and you cant find anything. Please bring back the old version!!
This app is horrible!! I was really enjoying using the previous version. It worked well and made me feel that BigY cared about me. This new app is frustrating to use and makes me feel like it is designed to mislead me. Julia Durchanek
What can I say. This app is close to useless. Searching is terrible. You can’t find things you know they sell. App only coupons. Good luck. Really. Just start over. Try other stores. Come on….
I have no problem finding items in any other site. Stop & Shop is so easy compared to this app. I no longer shop at bigy because if I can’t compare prices, it’s not worth going.
Every time i log in I’m asked to reset my password, and i mean EVERY TIME. Brutally annoying & Useless. I am tech savy, and know my way around digital accounts, apps, saving passwords in an efficient manner. Disappointing for a leading grocery chain of new engaland

Horrible. It just stopped working after years of use on my phone, in my Apple wallet. It won’t accept my password, let me reset the password, create a new account. Nothing. Inexcusable.
Where can I print my digital coupons and bonus buys that I selected….eyesight not too good to look at phone …cannot bring laptop with me to store….need a simple print of items I download to my card.
Some glitch has happened and I could bo longer sign in. It won’t capture password. Customer service desk at store couldn’t help. I deleted the app - what’s the point?
