Latest update = a lot of value!

I’ve been using this app since The Outbound first hit the scene. As a busy mom of two with a family that likes to adventure on the weekends, it’s perfect for efficiently finding something to do that feels novel, accessible, and worth the time and energy. Living in the Bay Area there are many hidden gems and this app allows me to explore a place I’ve lived for well over a decade with fresh eyes each time. With this update the maps are much improved and include an interactive elevation component which is great when deciding how much to get into (aka mellow or intense hike). I love how streamlined it is and the ability to so easily filter adventures to curate a list that meets my needs.

Great app small problems

I found this app and used it yesterday and overall it is a great app. It did a super job of keeping me on trail and finding the trail head. When I went to submit a review of the trail it let me put in a heading but it wouldn’t pull up a keyboard for a review so I couldn’t leave the review. Same problem with the picture I wanted to insert. I could put in a picture and not a review. Other than that it is a fabulous app

used often!

i use this app often—when i’m trying to find details on an adventure i’m already planning on going to.... or when i’m at home, wanting to get out & do something, but not quite sure what’s around. it’s really helped me get to know the area around my new city! i really like the “offline” feature, which is obviously ideal for when you’re in an area without service (which is often for me). i also have my “to-do” lists for different parts of my new state. the filters on the previous version i felt were hard to use, but the newer version works better. i also am interested in trying the new lodging feature! keep up the good work!

Great updated version

I like the changes especially the addition of lodging. The offline maps are a tremendous addition as many areas do not have cell reception. I am looking forward to trying the new features and watch for updates as we plan a return to travel. Great job and appreciate the forward thinking by the Outbound team!

Really cool free app

It took a minute to search for trails other than in your local area but once you out in a trip you see every trail on your route. I enjoy the altitude map as you explore the trail you are looking at. It gives you a perspective of the difficulty. I am enjoying this app very much!

Great app for offline maps

I needed an app with offline trail maps and The Outbound seemed okay. The trail/topo accuracy is great and works very well. If you’re in a marginal data area, put your phone into airplane mode to force the launch of the offline maps (the app keeps trying to connect if it sees a signal).

Wonderful update!

Super excited about all of the added utility in this new version. The addition of GPX tracks, downloadable maps, and even more campgrounds means I have everything I need without having to leave to app! Much improved!!

Whoa! New update to a great app!

New interface is smooth and fast. With the addition of gpx tracks, the app not only helps find new stuff to do, but helps me stay on track while doing it. My all-in-one fav for adventure discovery and exploration.

Love it!

So fun! Been using this app for a while but loving the new revamp of it! The new look and feel is fun and easy to get around. The downloadable gpx is pretty awesome. Been really sweet to explore snowboarding zones and checking out swimming holes in the summer.

Not what it used to be

The Outbound used to be a great app for finding awesome adventures that are off the radar. It was my go-to for weekend hikes or destination backpacking trips. User-curated activities. beautiful photos. Great descriptions that had character and heart and represented the passion of a true outdoors enthusiast. Now it’s basically a less robust version of Alltrails.

Needs some work

Website seems more robust than app ironically. Website includes some good info on lots of hikes but app seems focused on short term rentals. Was saddened to read mission statement on website exposing race as main focus of company mission and implying cis white is bad. Wish outdoors was just for anyone who wants to be outdoors not race based.

best travel app for cooler less traveled activities

the outbound has great content to get off the beaten path, I’ve found watering holes in Colombia and hog trails in Kauai. great content, just hope everyone that is using remember to respect the land and lnt!

Been using the app for years as my go-to for finding local hikes and activities wherever I am. LOVE the new GPX tracker they just launched. Game changer!

A Very Positive Review

This app is incredible. For the past year, I've downloaded and un-downloaded many "outdoorsy" apps and this is by far the best. They're up and coming and will soon be the most wanted nature related app for any smart phone. They have relatable articles that any nature enthusiast would expect and desire. The "explorers" they chose to represent their company are the type that anyone would envy....travel the world and document their incomparable experiences. Not only are they knowledgeable, but they create articles that are readable for onlookers anywhere, a weakness for the wanderlust traveler or the free spirit wanderer. Outbound has excellent social media that deals with a beautiful instagram, captivating articles, but ultimately has the same passion for the outdoors as any nature lovers would have. I'm very glad to have found this site and i'm excited for their new app. Only better things to come.

Worthless

The app is not comparable to the other trail apps. It basically helped find the trailhead which I can do with Google maps. It crashed multiple times, wouldn’t update location, and downloaded routes wouldn’t pull up. I’m going back to All Trails.

Beautiful and resourceful outdoor app!

I actually don't leave a lot of reviews, so when I do, it's because the product is really that incredible. The Outbound app is seamless, has a gorgeous layout, is visually appealing, and to search for any outdoor adventure or activity is very user-friendly. Categories include places that are right around where you live. That particular section is great for finding new places for outdoor activities near you that you weren't aware of. If you want an app that is easy to use, full of first-hand expertise that will help you plan for your next outdoor trip or travel destination, and is very practical, The Outbound app is the one to have.

Serious Potential

Okay so I've been needing an app like this for a long time. All other outdoors apps feel choppy and pixilated. This app has great pictures and it looks super smooth. This app could seriously dominate the App Store if it made improvements. First off this app desperately needs to expand its location and provide more "adventures" maybe an option for users to add locations that can get approved by outbound people that way it's an app of travelers coming together and building the program together telling the stories. Second, this app would be so much better if it was a little more organized and maybe a touch more user friendly. Other than those two things this app is actually perfect. I'm a huge fan! The only reason I gave four stars and not 5 is the lack of locations imo

Great Content

This app has a lot of great places to adventure to. Some of them I’ve already been to, but a lot are new to me. Cool opportunity to check out new hidden gem locations. The app may have some glitches, but nothing that’s worth leaving a bad review about unless you’re a spoiled Nancy who hates adventure and thinking. At least in my opinion. 😂 Any serious glitches have been fixed it seems. Keep going guys I like to see what else you come up with & look forward to adding to this app as well.

Excellent app... when it decides to work

My boyfriend and I are really into off roading and always looking for new places to go. I found this app and was happy to try something new. However, this app is INCREDIBLY slow. I even tried disconnecting from my WiFi since it can be unreliable anyway and this app is STILL very very slow. Pages won’t load, saving something takes way too long, even just logging in took forever. I think if you’re advertising this as an app that you can use on a hike or off road trip where there is very likely little to no cell service that it needs to load without fault or wavering. If this app was reliable, I’d use it much more often.

Couldn’t ask for more

This app does it all for me when scouting for photo location. Not only will it give me directions, it also has reviews from people who’ve been there and what to expect from the location. Skill level, what accessories to bring, best time to go it’s all there. App functions perfectly, has never crashed, when getting direction it integrates efficiently. Searches and other functions work effortlessly and never hangs or freezes up.

Best Travel App

This is the app I've been looking for! It keeps track of all the places you want to travel while locating new places. There were places brought up I had never even heard of and am so excited to go and explore. Outbound Collective has to be the best travel site and app that I've found. Even their website has great articles that I share all the time because they have great tips, adventures, and stories. Definitely 10/10 recommend this app!

Cool app, few glitches

Great app for finding/reading about new adventures to have. A few minor hiccups include photos not scrolling properly when phone is tipped in landscape mode, and a rare freeze. I have begun submitting my own reviews/photos of completed hikes, which is very easy. It would be nice if there was a way to submit your own adventure from the app instead of just the website, as it would be much more convenient and encourage people to participate. There are still quite a few hikes that have not been entered yet in my area. So I’ll make my girlfriend submit them when we do them 😋

Amazing Adventures at your fingertips

I love this app! I look for ideas of places to visit, hike, sight see , etc. I love the details it provides for specific spots! I enjoy keeping track of places I've been! Makes me feel accomplished. However though, I do wish there was an easier way to add an adventure through the app instead of going to the website. And even when I added an adventure on the website it didn't show on my app. Just a couple of things I hope get fix, but do use this app when I'm feeling adventurous!

Amazing

I have been using their website religiously. I travel all over for work and go to cities I have never been before. The Outbound has helped me feel at home and shown me amazing places. The app works great and makes it so much easier to find hikes and activities. Even if you only hike a few times a year, The Outbound will make sure each of those hikes is unforgettable.

Very Cool and Useful

I'm digging this app a lot so far; great way to discover beautiful areas to explore! One thing I would like to see would be if the app had a feature that allowed users to upload photos in the definitions, so that people who hadn't been there could get multiple perspectives, or see photos of different seasons of the destinations they might potentially be interested in checking out. If I saw a similar feature added, I'd raise my review to a 5 Star! No complaints other than the one request though!

Just a few fixes by the devs

I hope the Devs see this, as the app is overall great, but somethings are not working well. The app is a little slow, and a bit buggy in terms of crashing sometimes. I also can’t remove adventures from lists for some reason. I can add but not remove, I would like to keep track of what I’ve done and haven’t by just removing them, or just moving them from one list to another. Other than that, I love it. Thanks.

Seems awesome in theory, I hope they keep adding to it

The app is beautiful and organized really well. Unfortunately there are not that many activities near me, they all seem to be concentrated in the west. So I'm hoping with time there will be more activities added. I also would love information about whether dogs are allowed/recommend for each activity (or even an option to add dogs to your preferences so dog-friendly activities show up). I will keep the app and use google to fill in the details for now.

I do love the idea of this app. It's very well put together and it's almost like a Yelp for hikes. However, you can only see 1 persons review, and I've tried leaving a review and it never gets put on there. That's totally useless because if somebody says 'this hike is super easy' well it might not be for everybody. It's nice to see a few people's opinion rather than just 1. I feel this is a major flaw and the directions to the jokes aren't great either. Also missing a ton of hikes I know are in the area and they aren't in the app, and guess what, you can't add them. Fix!

Love this app and use it on all adventures!!

I love this new app from the Outbound and I use it to find adventures for wherever I am traveling. I highly recommend it for all your travel and adventures. If you are not going to have any internet coverage where you are going, be sure to get info before you head out. The app does need a connection to provide you with all the adventure information.

Fantastic

Just downloaded, and I really like this app already. It's extremely beautifully designed, and easy to use. I love the detailed descriptions, but I also really appreciate the user reviews and packing lists. So many different hikes, adventures, etc available for those of us who want to be outside. I know it's going to easily become one of my most used apps as I set out to explore.

So clean, well thought out a shows great hikes near me!

The interface of this app is beautiful! Instantly right when I logged in it showed featured places I should go, and a list of beautiful hikes near me. I'm so excited to get started! Truly the first app like this to actually have results near me. Great job on the graphics and all of the small details you guys put it! Love love love! It makes me want to get outside, NOW. :)

Outdoorsman DREAM app!

Well documented campgrounds, hiking trails, MTB trails, etc. Everything you are looking for when planning your next adventure is in this app. I've tried multiple (similar) apps that had features I liked but ultimately fell short; the outbound app has everything I was looking for and then some.. All in one place! I'm deleting all the other sub-par apps as soon as I hit submit on this review!

Awesome app

Yesterday I was searching for places online nearby that had waterfalls. I was so disappointed to find that both apple and Google maps didn't help and I had search multiple websites with poor maps to find nearby places. Then today I saw this under suggested. Literally the best app I've found so far. As a photographer, this will help finding new places to visit a ton!

Just what I needed !

For all the backpackers , hikers , wanderlust , travellers , this is one of the best app i have come across. Simple design. No unnecessary ads. Beautifully organized UI. To be honest this was just right what i needed being a beginner traveller who is eager to learn about places nearby and outside the state without having to search everything online. Just perfect !

Fix it

This app is great & all, and I love the concept of it. It's super easy to use and overall just really cool but the one thing that annoys the hell out of me is how the app will log you out and make u log back in,- which wouldn't be such a big deal expect for the fact it makes you go through the whole process of signing up for an account again! It never keeps my info and my profile picture won't stay put. Fix this now. Not even worth the 3 stars

Great idea, poor execution

Great idea for an app and I especially like the nearby feature to find fun things to do close by. But, unfortunately it is buggy and unstable. It freezes, crashes, and is generally slow. A particularly annoying bug is that you can add things to list but not remove them. So I added things to the things I’d like to do, and then cannot remove them from that list once I’ve done them. A great idea that needs real work to make it worth using regularly. Too bad. Hopefully they fix it.

Potential to be awesome

It's a great app right now, great look, great interface but it needs more places it should have all the state parks in your area and even nature preserves in specific towns. For those of us who live in small boring states it doesn't have many options. In general though it's a great app, way easier to navigate compared to similar apps. It just needs to have a comparable number of adventure locations.

Great app however....

This is a great app for finding local hikes and adventures however seeing photos is buggy. When a search comes up and I select it then click photos and go into landscape view, I cannot fully scroll through all pictures. I am using a iphone 11. Other then the photo scrolling issue in landscape mode it’s a good resource for local adventure

Seems to have great activities but ...

The app is really frustrating to use. Tap targets consistently do not act as expected. The map reacts strangely, it’s not clear why they just don’t use Apple maps which work ok. Menu bars for filtering and map view disappear with no apparent cause. Tapping on a site in map view will lead to another site being selected. Very hard to select a “pin” on the map view. Too bad, because it’s a solid collection of activities.

Lots of Potential

I love the idea of this app and the site. The interface has a great design, modern, and very fluid. I only gave two stars because the app is missing two huge features. The first being the ability to create adventures through the app, right now you have to go to the website. Second, there is no ability to upload any kind of GPS file of the route which is essential for many hikes, rides, runs, etc.

Amazing...

I've been waiting for this app to be released for a long time... I discovered The Outbound's website a few years ago and use it to find all types of rad adventures. If you want to participate in unique outdoor activity, check out this app and you'll find some amazing recommendations!

Glitchy but awesome app!

It's frustrating because the app will randomly crash and it's not letting me delete things from my lists or its randomly deleting some and even randomly deleted a whole list! Awesome app I appreciate everything it could do it has potential to be an even better app if it were to hopefully fix these glitches so please fix them!!

Great, simple, clean

Really surprised with this app. Everything is super clean, and has a very simple layout. Most apps I've downloaded have been aggravating to deal with. The OutBound allows me to find trails quickly, save them for a sunny day, and review those that I have visited.

(Mostly) Great!

It's easy to use, and I appreciate the ability to see photos and reviews left by others on different trails and locations. However, I don't like having the two default lists ("What I Have Done" & "What I Want To Do"). I don't use them and would like to delete them. ://
