Great selection of academic texts, but buggy interface..
Perlego is a lifesaver if you don't have access to a good academic library. And perhaps even more convenient than one if you do. But the interface leaves a bit to be desired: the scrolling is somewhat buggy, for instance, where the top and bottom margins may stretch; the viewing options are rather limited in many cases; there's no copy or citation option for referencing, etc. So while there's room for improvement, I'm nevertheless very glad it exists!
I really love the premise of this company. I discovered it in college and have never stopped using it since. Unfortunately, the best way to experience Perlego is on a computer. Their website has more features, less glitches, and is overall holds much better experience. I want to love the app, but it is, unfortunately, subpar. My books download and are fine for a while, but after a few days of reading, chapters go missing and the books take forever to load. The interface is a bit wonky to navigate as well. Despite all this, I’ll still keep using Perlego. It’s been such a help in saving money and in exploring new titles and authors. I hope the app does improve!
First of all, nice and clean interface and the interface is pretty intuitive. I was really happy with the whole experience until i got into the reader to read a book. It took me a while to get used to the motion of swiping to the next page. From using regular apps and ebooks such as apple’s Books app, I am used to the fluid motion of swiping between pages. However, this app requires more of a prolonged hold and swipe which is very unintuitive and has a bit of a learning curve. I’d urge you to please make the swiping gesture more seamless. What grinded my gear the most is that, images inside the books appear to be cropped. As the image in the book is apparently of dimensions that is beyond what will cleanly fit on the screen, it chose to zoom in and cropped the borders with no way to zoom out. Now I can’t clearly see the content. Being unable to see the content is a huge deal to me given that it is an educational textbook. I hope that you’ll fix it soon. Except for these, really neat app. Couldn’t give more stars just because it fell short where it was needed the most :(
Although it “does the job” in its bare essentials, there are may quirks and features lacking that will make life much easier to users/subscribers (since the access to books does not come for free). For example, access to favorites or downloads take unnecessary steps in order to open the file. Downloads seem to be “hidden” within the device, so you cannot transfer them to other apps for more convenience, like Books, the default in iOS. Managing more than one book at a time is extremely cumbersome. Also, bookmarks cannot be edited, i.e. once you bookmark a page, you cannot delete the bookmark ever!
Great If Your Research Involves a Lot of Books/Plays
Most research platforms are made for articles and journals, which has never been very useful for me. This app and it’s web browser version are GREAT! Best selection of plays (even like, BRAND new plays) I’ve ever seen on a platform like this! Love the notes and highlight options, easy to make and refer back to. Wish it was less expensive or had more university partnerships, but overall great app.
This is the best ever app/Software for reading ! . I like your concept and the app works perfectly without any issues ! I’m in love with what you made ❤️. I promise to stay together for long and I also want to become a part of your development team ( If possible ) . I’m in the USA and I’ll definitely promote your app from the bottom of my heart ❤️. Best of luck guys ! Keep up the good work ! Stay safe ! Can’t wait for Apple gift this app a tittle “ Best app of the Day “ . Lots of love 💕...
The app had highlighting features and book marks which I enjoyed especially while writing because it was easy to find reference points later. The only complaint I have is scrubbing through pages does take a while and the subscriptions expensive if you’re only using the app for one book.
To make a long story short, after the recent update I was unable to download any of my books that have been automatically offloaded from my device saying they had expired. Since the downloads kept failing I decided to delete the app and reinstall it, after reinstalling and logging in all of my reading history has been lost in my library isn’t even showing the last two books that I read in or tried to download. What a flop and super frustrating! All my notes and highlights were also lost.
I love the company Perlego. It offers most of my required textbooks at a much lower price than if I were to buy them in print. However, I love being able to look up definitions of words and highlight sentences, and in the app it’s just not easy to do. I even use my iPad and my pencil while reading to make making notes easier, but I wish the app had these features so it felt more seamless.
This app has improved a LOT I will definitely renew my subscription next year. I love the international selections and languages, and you can finally add books to work spaces!!! They really have listened to the feedback and I hope they last a long time as a company.
As an app this leaves a lot to be desired, including in its search features. An annoying and very basic limitation is the complete inability to remember where your previous place in a book. Every other reading app, eg Everand (formerly Scribd) and Kindle manage to do this across multiple devices, whereas Perlego seems incapable on a single device.
I am a real person and I was skeptical about this app initially. After reading one book for a few days, I am blown away by the reading experience on this app. Definitely the best I’ve ever experienced 10/10 plus I’m an avid reader and I read voraciously!
I had no idea how much having access to all of my books in one place would be so helpful. I’m a super disorganized person and wasted so much time looking for things. Search no more thanks to Perlego!
This app is not user friendly. I can’t even get past the table of contents without it crashing on me. It’s making it extremely difficult to get any of my schoolwork completed. There are major bugs that need to be fixed. The website hasn’t been much better, but I am able to read the book at least. Once this class is over I will be removing the app and will not be using it again.
Started using this app yesterday, and it worked perfectly. Come today, the app immediately becomes a black screen. I like that we get a great selection of books, but if I can’t read them wheneverI want, there’s no point in using this app
Should give the option to scroll vertically. Should give the option to read by two pages at a time Fix these minor issues and the app would be a lot more pleasant to utilize.
I downloaded the app because online it said it had textbooks I needed then once I got a subscription half of the books promised were not there. When I was reading the one textbook they had, it would change the pages 20 pages further if my phone had been turned onto its side. Very frustrating. Would not recommend.
I love this app, it is a great tool for reading and studying. I wish one could add page citations rather than a holistic book citation. Please add apple pen support!
Just waiting some improvements on the App, takes way too much time to open, impossible to interact and handle many ebooks at the same time, crash frequently, using on an iPad. Like I said great concept app but.
I bought the subscription almost exclusively for the Read Aloud AI option, but unfortunately the app doesn’t have that. The actual webpage does though if I use it in my browser.
GIVE ME PAGE NUMBERS OR GIVE ME DEATH!!!! For real though, would be a 5 star app. Oh, and add the nice color text to the mobile version. It is a really helpful reading tool.
The website and app completely stopped working as soon as I try to read my book with absolutely no way of fixing it. When you look into fixing it they provide barley any feedback to help you
After I bookmarked it crashed. I can’t even open the book without it crashing. I tried restarting my iPad, deleting and redownloading, still crashes when I try to open the book. Useless app
You must find an additional 15-20 minutes on reloading the reader in order to open a particular chapter. I’m not a native English speaker and for me, it’s important to select the word and translate it. In this app, I don’t have this opportunity.
Why have the app if when you go in to read a book it sends you to the website in order to read it? There’s no option to read it on the app so why have the app?
I tried to buy a book called foundations for multigualism, ism in education. It said that it had the book I paid $18 but the book was corrupted and only showed the first page.
The platform is lagged, I only used this app because my college book was on it. Also made it really hard for me to cancel my subscription. And charged me for a month I did not use.
If the developers actually used this app to read a book it probably would not have been released in its current form. Practically unusable and crashes regularly.
I just downloaded the app and it won’t let me sign up or create an account. It only says ‘Log In’ or ‘Incorrect password or email‘ and this is my first time downloading it
good selection of readings. i have trouble with the reader on horizontal mode on my phone. i can’t scroll. i wish there was a kindle app integration like with libby.
