Love, but something happened? UPDATED

I have LOVED this app for a while now, but recently (noticed maybe 2 weeks ago?) something’s not been working, more than half the filters that are indicated to be usable in the free version just stopped working. Random ones will work, but clicking on most of them just does nothing. I tried deleting and redownloading the app, but it still seems to be doing that. I don’t know if it’s a purposeful change and for what reason it would be done like this, but it did make it a big bummer to use and I hardly touch it now. Interestingly, it seems like all of the free effects still work, it’s just the filters (which I probably used more than the effects) UPDATE: developer asked me to delete and redownload and it worked this time 🤦🏻‍♀️ I swear I tried that already, but here we are! Favorite editing app, use it a TON. Absolutely being a baby making any complaint as so much of this is free. Amazing app overall!

you need premium for EVERYTHING

If you want to use any of the ACTUAL good stuff, you need to pay for the stupid premium. It was only about a year ago where I used one of my favorite effects that give off a film/disposable camera sort of look. However, recently— as in like 5 mins ago— when I tried to use it, suddenly I’m brought to the premium screen???! Like why??? I never had to pay for it before???? So after I realized I couldn’t use it anymore I tried to use a different effect, tell me why I pressed one , that DIDNT have the little star next to it, which lets you know that an effect or filter is premium, and i immediately get sent to the premium screen!!!! I’m so annoyed! I always thought this app was a go to for effects and filters even though a lot required premium but now it feels like if you want to use anything you HAVE to get premium. Now,I’ve been seeing the developers/company reply to other recent reviews saying that there are “300” free filters but 1. Doubt it’s 300 since if you press on an effect you have different variations of that effect and the majority have the premium star next to it and 2. it’s usually the worst variation that’s free and and If they are free effects they’re usually outdated or ugly. The only reason it gets TWO stars is because at some point this was a really nice app to use. Get if you want to pay is basically what I’m saying but I’m sure you can find free options.

why are so many things premium??!!

so i downloaded this app with my friends one day, and i was obsessed. i came across the anime filter and used it all the time! the pics turned out really well and i loved this app like most of my day was on this app. the anime filter was by far my favorite and kinda the only one i used. after a while, i stopped using this app for around a month. and when i came back i was like, “oh, the anime filter!” and looked for it. and when i found it, to my surprise…it was premium. IT WAS THE ONLY FILTER I USED. i wouldn’t care if every single filter was premium i LOVE the anime filter! it worked so well and it’s better than the other filters i’ve used. but ofc, it’s premium. i also enjoyed the fantasy filter. and you guessed it, premium. all the other cool filters? premium. litteraly EVERYTHING? yup, premium. CAN YALL CHILL WITH THE PREMIUM?! i honestly loved this app like last year or two ago but when you made all my favorite filters premium, you don’t know how disappointed i was. and you might be like, “well, buy the premium!” yeah that’s kinda hard when your not allowed to spend money on apps. if the free filters were actually GOOD and everything wasn’t PREMIUM, this would be five stars. but sadly, this gets a two. i’m disappointed but will keep checking to see if they actually get good filters soon. please add some good filters back to the free!!!

Poor quality, waste of money

I downloaded the app and all of the features were behind a paywall. So, I spent the lowest amount ($3.00) and didn’t even have access to any good features. On top of having to pay for the TEN AI generators and filters (yeah, you only get 10 for paying $3.00), you have an option to pay for a membership that is $4.99. Not to mention, the filters that you do unlock are poor quality and don’t look good. Oh, and if you buy their premium version, your photos miraculously just generate faster. Ridiculous. Every filter I’ve tried gives you eyeliner and make you look ridiculous, and figuring out how to even apply the filters isn’t user friendly. I don’t think this is the app that everyone using on social media, mainly because every filter you use has a watermark on the bottom right. Even after spending your money. I’ve used multiple photos and they all look like garbage, even ones that are frontal headshots/portraits like it suggests. I don’t recommend wasting money on anything this app has, because it’s not worth it in the slightest. I see why they require so much money, because they need to pay people to properly engineer elements into the app. 100% false advertisement, even after I used my money to get access to the features it advertises. I could have bought a McChicken and a large drink from Mcdonald’s.

Unsubscribe Nightmare

I wanted to do a 3 day trial. So as soon as I downloaded this app I went to my subscriptions to cancel before getting charged the weekly. I still got charged $4.99 week after week. Come to find out unlike other apps in the app store this app uses the Apple API to also login their website to create a login & subscription as well & collecting your Apple email address which I don’t give out to anyone due to security & to prevent spam/junk mail being sent to me. So while you add the app through the App Store & think it’ll be as simple as to unsubscribe before being charged you have to go to their help button do a search for the unsubscribe. Which doesn’t gives you a direct link but only tells you where to go to do such. You have to go to the company website then login using the API to unsubscribe. So even if you went the normal route of unsubscribing an app by going through Apple ID, purchases/subscription, cancel subscription. You still have to go to Prequel actual website to officially cancel the subscription or you’ll still get charged. On Apple request a refund Prequel shows up as a free app so to requesting a refund is a grayed out option due to this. I’m reporting this as a scam to Apple & requesting for a refund. So far you guys STOLEN & owe me for 5 weeks of payments after I canceled the subscription from the App Store 5 weeks ago.

They are swindling you

Too late did I realize by clicking the “trial” subscription that you would be charged weekly and NOT monthly the 5$ amount. In the beginning I believe it to be intentionally phrased to swindle the consumer. I doubt this company actually cares. I buy apps because I don’t mind an investment to purchase an app is no big deal to me. But I signed up for the subscription, which said a 1/week trial and then your subscription will begin within 7 days at 5 dollars. Now some re might come on here and blah blah but it is deliberately misleading. What they meant by 7days was that EVERY SEVEN days they’d charge you 5 dollars. It took me two months to realize because my other purchases were grouped in with it in notifications (another feature I’m sure they bank on because they probably make the most money on people who get it and then remove it after a few months.) I doubt they actually care and I know how iTunes works they won’t refund nor gonna bother trying. Overall this app is great if you like spending that much money. They do have a yearly option and some other stuff which I did want to purchase if after one month I enjoyed the app. However after spending 40$ on it (my bad but they definitely intend you not to notice.) I just can’t bring myself to spend another 28$ for the yearly.

Disappointed…

I’ve had this app for a while, and I really enjoyed it. There were many free filters that I absolutely loved. Unfortunately, with this recent update, many of the free filters I’ve enjoyed have been taken away, such as the Rose, Monroe, Nightcall, Hypno, Sparkles, Stellar, Miracle, Prism, Split, Synthwave, Shot, Moiré, Polar, and others. I’ve lost respect for this app. I truly wish I didn’t update it because I’ve lost some of my most favorite filters. I wish I could afford to buy the premium version, but I just graduated nursing school (which I payed for all by myself). Also, I am starting out as a new nurse, and I don’t have much for extra expenses. Honestly, most users of this app are teenagers and young adults, and many in this demographic cannot afford the monthly/annual price of this app. A few years ago, an app like this would have been a one time purchase of 5.99 or less with optional in app purchases of extra features. Since many of my favorite features have been removed from this app, I will just delete the app. Prequel, I beg that you bring back the filters that were previously free. Or at least make it in which you can do a one time purchase to buy some of the effects, instead of a monthly/annual purchase. I truly hope this review is read. Thanks.

Deleted features (Where is the text on the Aurora effects???)

I’ve been using Prequels effects and filters to make cool cover images for my playlists, etc. I used the Aurora effect the most as I loved the text-font for the titles on the cover images. Sadly it became a premium effect but I decided to purchase the Premium subscription because it was THAT important for me to keep using it. (Besides I can also use it other things) However the app got rid of the text font for that effect even though it is CLEARLY listed under a Text effect. It literally only displays settings to adjust lighting and filter. Where are the texts? That font isn’t even found in the Text features. The closest font I found was a title text on the effect Journal 1 , BUT you can’t edit the text or remove anything else. I gave the app 2 stars because it’s still contains cool features but you can’t make changes to effects containing texts etc. The text fonts are also limited and can’t make changes like compressing the text, bolding, italicize. I think the app should take better care of the features it already have, as a user you don’t know when the app’s Premium features will no longer be worth it.

Liked the app but my account didnt renew

I love the app's interface and ease of access to edit photos and videos. But as a turn of events really turned me off from this app. Recently I had to delete apps to free up space. Originally i had the yearly subscription to prequel and didn't think anything of it, I paid for a yearly Subscription, I can surely get it back upon re-downloading. But when I rebooted the app a month later it wouldn't let me get past the apps deals for a 1 week subscription unless i clicked it. (I had a yearly subscription already why is it showing me deals as if im a new customer? I thought) i never switched iClouds and the subscription was still valid. But i wanted to edit something in a hurry so rebooted it again and the SAME THING HAPPENED. Why am I getting double charged for a weekly subscription when i was trying to bypass and get to my stuff. So I contacted the support and they told me the charges were by apple and they said click restore purchase. So I cancelled the weekly subscription and clicked restore purchase and it gave me the WEEKLY SUBSCRIPTION. >;( I forward the emails for both receipts to both apple and prequel and since i clicked restore purchase it wont even let me cancel the weekly subscription. Highly upset at the hiccup and i just want a refund.

Terrible terms and conditions..

So let me say this.. there is no company on the planet that can limit my abilities to alter images, video and anything else that is my intellectual property and me not be entitled to compensation or monetization if I so choose. Especially if I am going to pay your ridiculous fees for every alteration. And the fact your terms and conditions would so egregiously and subversively suppress an artist (who already has done without 2 years of income due to the pandemic) to not be adequately compensated for participation with your application is outrageous. You blatantly state it. I work with application developers all the time and have my artists do the same. That way we grow your company and we grow with them. The fact you market yourself on TikTok to artists is such a false narrative. If somehow this has been misconstrued.. I’m sure you’ll know how to reach me. I’d happily like a real conversation or video chat. . Not a cheap apology and a pay on the back. I strive to fight fkr artists who don’t understand the business out in the real world will take everything from them if they let them and was really hoping that this application would be different.. but it seems as though my hopes were misplaced.

Insane Price Point

I installed and deleted it immediately... I’ve paid for my favourite mobile editing app (MuseCam) in the past, and enjoy the purchase. I also have paid $40-50 on the Mac App Store for Affinity Photo, my full featured editing suite. For $5/WEEK you can edit with their presets, or for their self claimed 85% discounted yearly subscription of $35/Year, you can have the presets under that price format. Something’s gotta change here Edit: I knew something had to be wrong with my initial notion. I reinstalled the app, and sure enough, I missed a sneaky little greyed out ‘X’ in the top left corner. After clicking it, you can proceed to the free version of the app, which I have to say is quite nice. You seem to get two presets from each of the collections they give you, and I am impressed with their image processing algorithms, they are nice. I still don’t take back my words about the insanely high subscription model price point, but I’ll leave 5 stars for the actual app. It clearly has been well thought out.

Tried Again and Got Worse

I had this app awhile ago and it was great in the beginning. There where so many free effects and filters I could use for my videos and edits and then every so often there were ones you had to pay for which made sense they have to make money somehow. Until one day stuff that used to be free had the star on it meaning you had to pay to use it or buy some premium subscription. So once that happened I deleted the app because I was very disappointed. Then today I redownloaded it to see if any thing has changed and let me tell you it got worse. Almost everything now you have to pay for and only like 10 filters and effects seem to be free. What I would do is if someone wants to use those filters or effects with the star you can pay to remove ads or like pay to get all of the filters and effects. Or make them watch an ad to use it. That way you still make money but also keep users happy. I know no one wants to pay all that money like a month or weekly or whatever just to use some effects. Don’t make people pay on a certain basis it’s messed up and straight up a scam. You are not getting your moneys worth go elsewhere.

Just Some Ideas :))

Okay, I love this app, it has so many things to play around with and so many fun filters and effects! One this i’ll complain about is that sometimes the filters glitch. When I say glitch as an example if I click on Bahamas filter, the filter won’t show up on my video / photos. But what I love about this app is that I mostly use it for editing TikTok videos or profile pictures! As my idea, could you guys add a search bar option for effect and filter? If you can’t find a filter or don’t want to just scroll though different bundles it would be very very helpful! Also maybe add some more sparkle effects? I love sparkle effects, they just add a vibe to your videos. I have no bad complains about this app and I definitely recommend it! If you want to edit videos and photos, DOWNLOAD THIS! Disappointed.

Prequel used to be my favorite editing app for years, I would even rave about how good it was to all my gfs & anybody else who was looking for an editing app. I really appreciated that a TON of the filters were free due to the fact that mannny other editing apps don’t have that. But with the latest update virtually every remotely good filter is premium & you now have to pay for it. They basically left all the filters that nobody would even care for, as free. Why? You say you need a ‘balance’ and that you have over 300 variants of filters but quite literally every single good one and ones that I use to use- I cannot use anymore. I feel as though greediness got the best of this app and company and it’s sad you really charge the people trying to use your app $5/WEEK? And even then, that still doesn’t give you all the premium filters. It’s not worth the money or even a download, you’ll be thoroughly disappointed and I’m sure there’s a better editing app out there at this point. So sad, I used to love this app so much it had the coolest effects and filters but now there’s literally no point in having it anymore.

Edit September 1st 2019: the developers responded with a super lame canned response justifying their 8+ subscription options. I cancelled mine last week. Over this app and on to another- note: don’t download this app friends they’re a greedy bunch who just had to mess with something they had that was good. 1 subscription tier was enough but to add more so you have to pay the highest amount to get everything is just downright rude. DEVELOPERS I SUGGEST YOU START GIVING REAL RESPONSES AND ACTUALLY READING REVIEWS INSTEAD OF SOME COPY AND PASTE BS. You lost me as a customer and I’m sure many more. I take my rating down to 1 star. AND DON’T respond with “try our free version etc blah blah” the free version is horrid and you’ve made it that way so people have to pay. Disappointed in your company. Don’t fix what’s broke, but you just had to have more $$$. They used to have a FEW subscription options for premium. Now they have a TON so that you have to pay even MORE than you were for even more filters. Won’t be paying anymore. So sad because this used to be my go-to app. But they decided to get greedy because premium payment wasn’t enough already. If I pay $5 a week I shouldn’t have to pay more for more filters. $20/ month?!

The app is laggy...

I have been using Prequel for some time now because I love the effects it provides. I always use Prequel to make aesthetic edits of myself, my friends and just aesthetically pleasing things in general. But I’ve noticed that over time, Prequel has been slowing down and crashing pretty badly for me. I don’t know if its the same for other people but what happens is that I will import the video, crop it, and attempt to put an effect and boom. There it is. It is slow and ruins the vibe of the video. I just don’t know what’s wrong with the app. I don’t know if the app needs a new update or if I’m doing something wrong. Please fix this! I hope you take my complaint in consideration. (Edited) First of all, thank you for replying back. Second of all, the overall issue is the filter. Once I click on a filter like for example, disco, VHS, just any filter in particular, it will immediately slow down. The filters just sort of crash...but I hope you guys cab fix this soon. That way I can keep using the best editing app for aesthetic edits.😊

App refusing to work

Just recently, maybe a month or two ago, I started noticing that the app wasn’t working. First, it was whenever I wanted to export my video. Once I had finished finding a filter or an effect, it would load as if it’s getting ready to export and then it doesn't export at all. And no matter how many times I would try to export it, or go back into the app, or shut my phone off, it just would take days to export. And now, as I’m trying to use the app, I can’t even get passed from cropping the video. It’s doing the same thing, after I’ve picked a video I want to edit, and cropped it to the size I want, it loads like it’s going to let me continue, and then it doesn’t. And I’ve exited out of the app and tried again, and I’ve shut down my phone multiple times thinking it needs a refresh, but I can’t get passed from cropping the video. I’m not sure why it’s doing that and it’s getting really annoying. The app is really cool and I really enjoy it since I’m a video editor, but I’m thinking about just deleting it and finding a different app because I don’t want to keep wasting my time on a incorporative app. Please fix this issue!

Hate paying for apps but worth the price

With 100 bajillion photo apps on here it's hard to recommend anyone pay this much for one. But I got to say in all honesty, if you have the money to spend comfortably, Prequel is one I would splurge on. A lot of apps do one or two of the things Prequel does well, but I've never found one that was This good at This many features. Darkroom and VSCO are go-tos when I need just a quick filter or touch-up, but if I ever want to do something cool or different from usual, Prequel is automatic. There are so many filters, effects, and extras —and unlike other apps none of them feel like throwaways. Almost ALL of them are hits, with very few misses (if any - it’s probably more fair to say they're Just not my taste) I avoid paying for apps like the plague. Especially when something like Snapseed is free. But credit where Credit is due, Prequel actually made it feel like it was worth it.

Best app for filters!

Wow! I’ve been looking for an app like this for years! Others came close such as VSCO, but you always had to pay more to actually have options or just better filters. This app has it all as far as filters and free of cost! I am begging you guys not to change because I hate the idea of paying for filters. I mean how vain do you think I am to pay for filters, it’s never happening. I understand many apps are tempted to make others pay for what people really want to have which is why I’m grateful you guys don’t and had to finally come over and give you guys the best review. This is after using this app for months by the way. I tried to look for apps that provide better filters than this app, but it truly doesn’t exist. And now I’m even more excited because I didn’t realize there was more cool filters when you press “effects”.

This WAS a great app…

I never write reviews, but I genuinely felt the need to say something as I have been a long time user of Prequel. I always used Prequel to edit my photos for Instagram and VSCO, but as of recently I’ve noticed a lot of the previously free filters are now premium. It’s not just a handful of filters, it’s A LOT. I used this app because it offered so many great filters and in-depth editing tools for free. I understood that obviously some of the features and filters you had to pay for, but I still enjoyed the free filters. Now, all that’s left for free are the more unconventional filters, or I guess you could say the “less-trendy” filters. I understand that sometimes companies have to do a bit more to get some extra revenue, but the premium price is not something worth to pay. you could pay 10 dollars a month or 50 dollars a year, which I think is a bit much for a photo editing app. I really do miss the old Prequel! it was my go-to for editing photos but now I may have to find something else.

Greedy App Development At It’s Worst

For years, this was one of the best photo and video editing apps in the marketplace for just playing around with iPhone photos. You got fair access to a restricted number of editing tools with the free version and options for extended filters, tools, and type with the paid version. Now they’ve restricted the vast majority of the best and most popular filters in an attempt to force all users to pay $5/week ($240/year? Literally the cost of a full priced Adobe Photoshop subscription lol which this app is not) for a semblance of the services they previously offered. The remainder of the free tools and services available aren’t worth downloading the app for for new users, and you get the most useless restricted offerings in the typography section now. I’ve seen the developers auto replying to people that they “have to charge to maintain the app” and that there are “tiers for subscription,” but there is only the $5/week version available through the app, and there is no world where $240/year per user for a widely used app is required for app maintenance. This is just greed and a money grab. Boycott Prequel.

i wish you would get rid of this

everything about this app is AMAZING and i’m so happy that you offer users who want to use the limited version so many filters and effects for free, but the only thing that ruins it is the fact that you have to deal with a big watermark on your photo/video when you want to share it. the only way that i can get rid of the watermark is if i pay $5/WEEK and that’s to use everything in the app, there’s no option to just get rid of the watermark. i really wish that for the free version that you could get rid of the watermark because users are so excited once they’re done editing their photo/video and then a big watermark appears that you can’t get rid of. i’m completely fine with the fact that you don’t have access to all do the effects and filters unless you pay, but for me the watermark in the limited version makes this app so useless and not fun to use. i don’t have to money to be spending $5/week on an app i won’t use every single day. please understand and take the forced watermark away..

No exaggeration, the greatest app I’ve ever used

I almost don’t even wanna tell my friends about this app because I’ve been able to impress them so much by using it! The ease, detail, endless possibilities. It’s actually mind-blowing. There are a handful of aesthetic apps to give VHS effect or Super 8 or something like that, but Prequel is in a league of it’s own. If you have a brand or are a content creator, this is the secret to doing sleek, professional, high quality work. I would like to pay a bigger fee once instead of annually but they make it so worthwhile by constantly adding updates like they just did several for Halloween and I’d assume they’ll do similar for Christmas. The textures they use make fonts look like real lacquer pins or fabric patches. These guys have it all figured out!! More than a review, I just want to thank the developers — this app has made my year!

Great app!!

I love this app the moment I got it. I finally decided to go With the gold subscription to try all the other effects. I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max so my phone ain’t outdated. Now the problem is for the effects that work after applying them you can’t edit them. For example when I use the avatar effect and try to edit the background, color or scale none of them gets applied, not even the preview of the edits when applied. Other effects like all the NFTs don’t work at all. Every time I pick one of them it kicks me out the app. I tried with several different pictures. REVISED REVIEW: Upon my previous review above and inquiry to customer service they reached to me on a weekly basis to update me on resolving this technical issue. Everything got resolved within 2 weeks and so far the app is running smoothly!! I would recommend this app.

Used to be good, but they got greedy.

This used to be my go-to photo editing app for a long time. Even though there were premium-only filters, there were a decent amount of free ones to choose from, and some you could unlock by following them on various social media platforms. I was perfectly satisfied with that system. But over the past year or so, almost everything has become premium. So many filters and effects I used all the time for free are now locked up. They’ll say they have over 300 free ones or whatever, but most of the good ones are locked. Even the ones that are free only let you use one or two versions of the effect/filter. I’m very disappointed in the switch. I feel like they got greedy because why are they charging $6/WEEK?! I would pay $6/month, but per week is crazy. This app is basically only useful now if you’re willing to pay. If you are, then it’s got a lot of great features. If not, then you’ll find it collecting dust and taking up storage in your phone.

Awesome App

OK I’m totally in love with this app. I’m a filmmaker artist and photographer. The AI with cartoon effects is awesome. I don’t know what other people are complaining about but this app is great.I haven’t found anything else that does what you’re AI cartoon app does. What I would like to see is more cartoon AI transformations. Do this: create an entire story book. This would be the ultimate goal. Choose a different story have different storylines. Make each comic strip at a minimum six pages long. Also it would be good to enable the user to caption the photos they want and move the pix around inside the preselected frame. I want to write my own dialogue. That’s a big ask. If you guys can do that more power to you. That would be amazing. I really bought this app specifically for the cartoon AI effects 👍✌️great job thanks! Please work the cartoon apps !!!!! MJ from Philly 😎

I REALLY LOVE THIS APP,BUT...

I really loved a lot of the free filters & effects & how you can customize each filter! I love everything about this app, however, I think that paying $5/week to unlock all the other filters & editing features are a bit too pricey, especially if you’re paying WEEKLY! Even though I really do like this app & I know that I will be using this app a lot, I don’t think it’s necessary to pay a weekly subscription for that kind of price for all those filters. Also, for some strange reason, everytime I go onto the app, after each minute my screen dims & gets darker & darker & it’s very hard to see how I’m editing my photos & videos! My brightness is turned up all the way & the app still causes my screen to dim & I have get out of the app & wait for the brightness to turn up again. Please add a monthly subscription for those who want use all of the features but don’t want to pay high price for them & please fix this bug!

BEWARE

I’ve never written a review before but I’m compelled to write one for this application because they charged my account even though I had CANCELLED the subscription within the first 3 days. When I emailed them requesting a refund, they provided me with the weirdest answer I’ve received yet, ie that the subscription needed to be cancelled within 24 hours and they’re not responsible for any outside party’s (in this case Instagram) information that you will not be charged if cancelled within 3 days. How would a normal person like me know that when after I downloaded the application, I was informed that I would not be charged if I cancelled within 3 days. To add insult to injury, I did cancel it within 24 hours. Luckily it was a small weekly subscription fee, however they’re arguing with me and not currently honoring my request. So downloaded with CAUTION. I’m hoping they’ll resolve this and I won’t be continuously charged for something I had cancelled within the timeframe they advertised, otherwise this would be FALSE advertising!! So not happy and would’ve not even given the 1 star rating.

BIGGEST SCAM EVER! REFUND IMMEDIATELY

I just bought the gold subscription a few weeks ago, and I only needed it for a few days. I used the app, and I couldn’t cancel the subscription because of the free trial that it forced me to accept. Now, I’ve contacted apple regarding refunds for the weekly payments, and the subscription doesn’t appear when trying to cancel a subscription in the settings. This is a common problem and the developers should be ashamed of themselves. This app is a scam. Do not pay for any premium services if you plan to cancel the subscription. I’m requesting a refund of my recent payments, and I want to cancel my subscription for good, because CLEARLY the developers don’t want me to do it. This app is made by frauds that scam and steal money hoping that you won’t realize the outrageous charges weekly, and the inability to cancel the subscription through the settings in your phone. they replied to me on my review asking to send them an email. i asked them about keeping the original free ones, free. this is their response: Hello! Great Application, Worst subscription system

UPDATE: The watermark has been removed for free users!!!!!! Amazinnnng!!! Thank you Developers. I don’t write that many reviews and much less bad reviews, although this app has some amazing and unique effects you may not find anywhere else, i have to point out to a really turn down fact which is your subscription system, paying weekly with as high price point is probably the worst I’ve came across yet, even if it’s something still affordable but it is absurd to pay such amount weekly for an app that you use once a week. We want to have the feeling of paying for something and not thinking about it much like one time purchases or at least make it monthly and reduce the price point. Anyway if you don’t mind the big water mark than you're fine with the free versions

Crippleware be aware

Right after making the payment for annual subscription I quickly realized that I got tricked into buying a paid Crippleware that uses my content for their advertisement 1) most cartoon effects are cropped to my face and the “Prequel” watermark cannot be removed 2) you have to pay for their weekly subscription in order to use many features thus making this a crippleware, I have I clue what I own as there is no way to turn of this annoying sales pitch to make me buy extra features/filters/fx. It was so annoying I had to stop using the app after a few photos. 3) There is a major bug with their “manage” button which forces you to grant full access to your library Industry standard Photoshop is cheaper why should I use Prequel and get frustrated with their crippled GUI which they should have mentioned before making me buy this app for only some cartoon fx. I feel cheated and your app is unusable for any purpose an very unorthodox I would not spend more money for your company with this mentality. I want my refund

Pretty Good! Except...

Overall, this is an AMAZING app for small videos that just need something extra to make them pop with many vibrant filters and very bling-ey effects! (I know bling-ey isn’t a word) My only problem with it is that you can only make videos up to 1:00 long! only one minute! I enjoy using this for mainly short tiktok edits but I thought I’d try YT! I filmed and eventually got to the part where I’d use PREQUEL to add something extra! (I use Miami to 80% And stardust to 20%) then realizing I can only edit one minute of it. So i gave up on that. That was a little annoying considering those effects would kind of carry the whole video then finding out I can’t use them. I know this app is mainly for shorter videos but I really feel that if they added the ability to edit a longer video, it’d be way more of a powerful and useful app! Please lmk if there are any updates though I’ve kept it installed! Thank you,

Pretty Unusable

I’ve been using prequel for a few years. I’d say since late 2020, and I enjoyed the free version for instagram posts, and have upgraded to weekly premium a few times because I would like access extra filters. Unfortunately, between a period of inactivity on the app, I came back to find that basically all the filters are behind the paywall now. Now, I’d be a bit more fine with this, but only some of the fingers indicate if they’re behind a way wall, so you basically have to tap on 75% of the selections and wait for the paywall window to come up. It’s really frustrating. The accessible filters are for the most part, dated, saturated, or unflattering (not all though). I guess you’ve done your job prequel! I do desperately want to purchase premium, but I am not an active instagram poster, and that’s all I most it use it for, so I won’t. I do appreciate your services are relatively cheap. A whole year for only 35-ish is not bad at all. That’s why I gave y’all the extra star.

My favorite app of all time?

I’ve been using this app and loving every minute of it. So much capability. User friendly. Spectacular outcomes. Super fun to use. Even the free version gives you a lot of innovative and fresh filters, music and so much more for video and stills. I love the simplicity and elegance. With the integration of music too! My own library and the app has a library too. You have the option of dragging to select the few seconds of music of your choice. I don’t have any music capability on IG but...now I do. The power to produce content like PREQUEL affords is priceless in this “look at me” marketplace. If you’re an original content creator and/or you’re curating, repurposing, re-anything? Your now have an addictively classy tool to monetize you. Or make impressive memories for your clients, friends and family. It’s my favorite app. Ever.

Great but disappointing 😭😭😭

I have been using prequel since 2020 and I found out that you guys put teal star mode so now I need to buy it I’m so disappointed beca I loved this app so much please make real free again it was so useful and I can’t do vids on TikTok any more i am sos sad please make it free again im begging you the filter real is so important to me and now I can’t use it😭😭😭 please please make it free again as fast as possible. I will be deleting this app if you don’t please do. Yep hat filter was so important to me and for others 2 the only reas why I use prequel is bc of real and the filters and I can’t use real in more so what the use of this app the whole thing to make my TikTok videos better is by using the filter real and if you guys can’t I will delete this app PUT IT BACK FREE please it would mean a lot to me and other please do it as fast as possible PLEASE!!😭😭😭

Great free editing options!

Love this app! The filters and effects have mostly two free options to choose from. As a causal and free user this is a huge plus for me. The filters and and effects are quality and there are a lot to choose from. Definitely a good option for free users. I hope to future filters continue to have free options. My biggest gripe with the app is that it drains my battery in minutes. Had my phone at full charge with battery saver on and after editing two photos my phone is at 8% :( Also the app crashes several times when it is rendering. Some of the filters take a while to load and lag when editing. I have an iPhone SE which is a very old phone so I don’t know if this app is too much for my old phone or if it’s the app itself. Maybe it works better on newer phones, I’m not sure.

Terrible. Don’t use.

You really can’t do anything with this app without paying. I wanted to try the AI art filter to see if I like it but it won’t even let you try one picture with paying first. Deceptive app and bad practices because it advertises itself as if there’s a free version available for that filter but it takes you to a payment page immediately. You can’t use it without paying. I would have paid if it gave me the option to try even just 1-3 pictures to see if I like. It’s deceptive because when I saw it on Instagram it advertised the app as free to try for the AI effect, but they are lying. The free option it’s not available for the AI art filter. I immediately deleted the app because I realized they were using deceptive practices. I can’t trust them with my data. I also reported the ad on Instagram for deceptive practices and pressed hide the ad so I would never see it again. If you were tricked into downloading this app under false advertising report the app for bad business practices.

Sad prequel is premium

I am very very sad that prequel has made 90% of my favorite filters only accessible to those paying for a premium subscription. I do not post daily, and I think that if you are someone that posts daily and relies on social media for income, this app may be a great investment for you. I think that $5 a week is not worth it… but again, I don’t post everyday & am not an influencer. I just use prequel for fun! I enjoyed every bit of this app when most filters were free. I think prequel is by far the most diverse and unique editing app I’ve ever seen. I love prequel because it’s filters make my pictures stand out on my Instagram page. Nothing looks exactly the same. Everything is fun and one of a kind! I love adding multiple effects sometimes to make my pictures even more special. I am going to miss using this app & am going to struggle to find an app like that i’ll love. but i wish prequel the best financial success.

Laggy, good, needed to be addressed

I was looking for an app, that helps make me edits for pinterest. I came across this app, “ Prequel.” I started using this app for about a day and loved it. The next day I was going to make another edit and noticed that when I put the filter on, it got a bit glitchy. I figured it was an effect and it might be glitchy, so I deleted the app and re download it a few days later. When I re downloaded it and started using it for a few hours, I noticed... 1. It was still pretty glitchy. 2. It drained my battery, ( quite a lot just for an hour or two. ) Other than that I think this app has some pretty interesting features. Definitely worth getting, just be aware it’s a bit glitchy, ( but when saved to camera roll it is perfect quality. ) Thank you for reading my 100% honest review, stay safe & have an amazing day. :)

Great but starting to bad

This app is pretty great for editing and it has many features while working on more which can be used to edit pictures or edit videos whether its in 16:9 Ratio or Ratio for Insta Reels / Stories which comes with a decent abundance of features for editing. However this app is falling downhill and its basically unusable now without paying a full paycheck of your money and thats so retаrdеd. Glad to see they FINALLY came out with a yearly paid feature but not sure how much can be accessed or not. I have seen through my Apple Subscriptions you can get Gold issue which is almost literally 60 EURO which is abit insane for a single app let alone the amount of other apps I have on here that I have to pay for which offers me help as well. Its unbelievable... trash.

WILL KEEP CHARGING YOU

DONT DOWNLOD THIS! Do not even try this free trial!!!! I tried the trial and decided the app was too buggy for me so I cancelled before my trial ended, but then I have been charged 3 times since cancelling for a subscription! I double checked every time to make sure I really cancelled it and had to go through a long process with my bank about it. I emailed customer support for the App Store and this app and nobody could do anything because my subscription wasn’t active. I ended up having to close out my card and get another one because they just kept charging it. Not worth it! Update: they still have charged my card every single week for the last 3 months. Finally got in contact with a real person and to cancel the subscription unlike all other apps, you cant just unsubscribe in the subscription section of the App Store you have to go through their whole app and website to unsubscribe as well. That’s so stupid and is not how any other app operates on the App Store

glitchy

so I had this app for awhile and it has a bunch of cool filters but it’s very very glitchy. like sometimes I will be able to edit without it being glitchy but 95% of the time it is. for example, while editing it would be slow and then it would just randomly kick me out of the app. this happens every time I use the app so it’s not just one time. and it’s ONLY this app that does this.. none of my other apps are like that so ik it’s not my phone. also it would glitch so bad to the point where my whole phone will glitch with it. I would be kicked out of the app and then my phone would start acting up and being super super slow so I would have to reboot it. I only have this app bc it’s the only app that actually has good filters but I just wish it would be a little more smooth and I wouldn’t be kicked out every time I’m editing. please fix this.

Do not download omg worst update ever

Why are the usually free filters and effects now only available through the subscription? Livid, is an understatement. I would normally bite my tongue but this update is UNACCEPTABLE!! UNACCEPTABLE!!!! Can’t you just make new filters and effects that you can charge for? Why do you have to take all the good free ones away? My heart is broken. Not everyone can afford, or are comfortable with a subscription. If you must charge us for your (ONCE FREE) filters and effects, can’t you just make a one time fee for all of them? Or like .99 cents for each filter and effect? I’m devastated honestly. I don’t even know what I’m going to do. Until there’s an update that fixes this or something, I’m contemplating uninstalling. You don’t understand how much those effects and filters meant to me and everyone else. This was low. This is the first time I’ve had an app take away something that used to be free and put it behind a subscription wall. I’m disappointed.

i saw this app in an ad on instagram and thought to myself that i needed to have it. it looks really well made and from the reviews it sounds like it is..which is where things get confusing. when i first installed the app, i went with the free version and tried importing in a photo to edit. the actual import was quick but after that, nothing has loaded on this app. i’m not sure what the problem is, but none of the filters or effects or anything will load. i’ve deleted the app and reinstalled hoping that would work but to no avail. i’ve also checked my internet connection and everything’s fine, which leads me to the conclusion that it’s the app’s problem. i really liked the previews i saw if this app and would really like to use it to edit my photos, but if i can’t seem to get anything to load, then i don’t think i’ll have much luck editing. i hope there is a solution to this problem because i truly would love to use this software.

$5 a week to get rid of watermark

Ok, I’ve paid for editing apps before, and I would probably have paid a couple of dollars to get the whole package from this app. But $5/week is just ridiculous. The free version looked pretty cool, until I saved the photo I had edited and they placed a big, ugly logo on the front and told me I couldn’t get rid of it without paying for the full app. For $5/week. That’s just lunacy. This isn’t worth it. There are lots of fun editing apps out there, don’t waste your time with this one. This one will run you $20/month, ~$240/year, that’s honestly ridiculous for an app. Maybe if this was actually a full version of photoshop. But photoshop has an app that’s better than this one, and it doesn’t charge you $5/week. The video effects are cool, but nothing is worth anything with the big ugly watermark on every pic or vid you save. If they got rid of that, I would use the free version, but there’s very little that could persuade me to spend $5/week on an editing app. What are the developers thinking?!

Horrible Subscription Update

I’ve been using prequel probably ever since they started up. It was a very unknown app at the time with AMAZING filters. And with every update there were better filters for us to explore. But not too long ago they updated the app and all the filters that were once free are now all under subscription payments. There are some that are free but they’re outdated filters that are just unpleasant. I think the way they had it before was well balanced because there were a lot of great presets to enjoy for free and many more that can be bought with subscriptions that looked interesting. If I had the money I would’ve gotten a subscription a while ago but now there’s no point in having the app. It’s useless without purchasing like all these other apps available on the market. Hope they can consider changing this soon so we can all enjoy it.

Good but an unuseable bug

I have used this app for so long. It’s one of my favorite apps which is why I am leaving it at 3* instead of 1. I love it! It has so many filters, I love the options, and not many paywalls which I really appreciate. I use it for stories and posts for IG However I have encountered this bug that makes it stop loading at 52% and then crashes. It doesn’t matter what photo, how old it is, or what format the photo is in. I tried to update, reinstall it, and nothing I do makes the app work anymore. It just randomly stopped working. Overall the app is amazing and I have used it for almost all my photos for years.. if you can get yours to work it’s amazing, but I have no solution for it, and have waited weeks for updates and other methods to fix it. so until this bug gets fixed I will have to find something else.

You have to pay for just about everything..

Its a cool app definitely way more designs and effects than I’ve seen in any picture app. But why is the free version like a free trial for a game or something? You cant move the text around on the pictures only up or down which is very corny to have to pay just to move your text where you want it. It definitely still has glitches they need to fix like using the Gta edit when you crop the video picture it starts glitching bad. Also there isnt an undo button so if you mess up on an edit you have to start all the way over. This app had very good potential but its not worth paying 4.99 every month just to use some edits. A one time payment would very much be convenient but alot of these app developers are money hungry and feel like a subscription that you have to pay for every month is cool i guess? Like were arent in a pandemic still lol

I’ve been a user of the app for a couple years now and I loved it. But over time all the filters I liked to use became blocked by needing to buy a subscription. Not even a monthly one at that five dollars A WEEK.
