I’ve been on this app for five years, and I would notice certain vehicles you could not bid moron because supposedly of an error at the three minute and six minute mark… or maybe I didn’t have reception that day even though I clearly did. But I noticed it was a common trend, and the same person kept winning. I contacted public surplus and told him I screen recorded the last three times. This issue occurred and that it was the same winner…. They never replied to my email. It’s rigged, but sometimes you find good deals on here too not all of them are rigged.
It’s almost as if PS have a milking cow and have decided not to improve this app. Improvements I will like to see. 1. Set my default State. I don’t wanna see the whole country pop up when I open the app. Give me the option to customise; to set a default State and limit searches to this state when I open the app. Thats what’s close to me and easy for me to get to. Most sellers don’t ship so I want to see what is near me by default EVERYTIME. 2. Make the app faster. It’s a snail. Maybe adding 1 could improve this. 3. The scroll is laggy. I have to be careful how I fast I scroll least it takes me back to the very top; undoing all my progress and leaving my thumb grumpy. 4. Zoom on pictures. Which century are we in? I have an iPhone app which can’t zoom in on pictures. I have to download the picture and zoom in. Laughable. Thank you Edit 1: Zoom feature added. It’s better than what existed before so i will take it. Panning on the zoom is archaic.
This app accomplishes the basic utility it seeks to fulfill - listing auction items to be bid on. I like the region selections and ability to search for specific items, but there is room for improvement when looking at individual listings. I have found it frustrating that when viewing photos, they are presented in a static fashion. You cannot pinch to zoom in to see a finer level of detail. The app also does not support landscape mode, which would help immensely when viewing a photo. Public surplus items are rarely top-notch quality, so as a potential buyer, it’s important that I’m well informed about the condition about the items I’m looking at. Photos that can be zoomed in and out on, panned across, and viewed in landscape would be a welcomed improvement.
The app is set up in a way where they can tell who works for the government and will prevent other bidders from bidding on an item if someone they favor has a bid in place. I know because they just prevented me from using my password to place a winning bid and then logged me out I signed back and using the same password that all of a sudden magically worked and I was on that app for an hour continuously with no issues. hopefully someone will do an investigation and get the people involved in this scam website charged with theft. Someone may claim the app just crashed but that is what a hacker or someone controlling the site is able to do... i typed my password in 3 times and thr clicked cancel and it logged me out. I had less than a minutr and they manipulated it to where I would not make it in time. Please someone run an investigation
What you get out of this app depends a lot on whether you are near the sellers’ location, since most institutions don’t ship items. I have a few gripes about the interface. 1. The distance control in advanced search is terrible. It should be a logarithmic scale not linear. The website uses a dropdown, and selections are basically log-scale. 10, 25, 50, then 100, 250, 500. 2. Your watch list from the desktop website doesn’t carry over here or vice-versa. Same account, two worlds. Make sure you watch auctions with the app if you want a reminder when they end. 3. You can’t zoom images on the app. Since places just kinda plop their auction lots in there without a lot of care to description, pictures are worth 1000 words. Sometime I can *almost* make out a model number. I find the same auction on the website and save the picture from there, then zoom in. Other than that, it gets the job done.
Getting to the site you want us a pain in the neck and it does not remember previous selections, and you have to scroll through each site in your state. Once you log in it requires that you register an address and credit card, you cannot bypass this and you cannot logout. If the address on file is not correct you cannot change it, you have to contact them. All that being said, once you get to the site the search and review is easy and bidding is push button.
It’s great PS have an app for bidding. But it falls flat on usability and performance. Had it been 2007 it was forgivable. But in this age, it’s not. 1. Every time you choose a region (which are hundreds per state) and view an item and when you click ‘Back’, you have to start all over again. 2. The UI is very clunky. With outdated design elements, it’s difficult to navigate between pages. Not to mention the “loading...” gif pops up every now and then.
The ability to zoom on photos would make this app 100% better. Other nice and easy to add features would be a “share” button… when I want to send an auction to a friend I have to stop what I’m doing and go log on through a web browser to get a link to be able to share. The ability to save searches or set up alerts would also be huge. Some amazing deals and products come up on this platform, which keeps me using it but dang is the UI basic and featureless.
I was able to login very easily. I was able to do an advanced search just like I do on the website. This is about as far as I got before I came across two major shortcomings. You can’t pinch to zoom on auction images, and you can’t select text from within the auction descriptions. If I’m doing something wrong send help.
The app has less features than the actual website. And no ability to share or copy a link to an auction. From what I can tell the only benefit this app may provide is push notifications regarding outbids, etc. Giving it 2 stars since it doesn't crash and is at least functional.
Bidder from OK here... in my opinion, this app most importantly needs a ‘Share’ button, the ability to ‘Ask a Question’ about items and to view questions and answers by other users, zoom feature for photos. I do love the “Watch” and “Bid” options from the search screen. For now (22-Jan-2021) this app remains a supplement to the browser-based interface.
In the past couple of weeks and months, the user experience on the app has been egregiously awful. All I get is constant disconnects and log outs forcing me to spend valuable time to log back in. Sometimes, the app is stuck on a constant loading screen when the web browser loads fine indicating a systemic issue in their overhaul of their mobile app. Don’t change what isn’t broken guys!
Latest update it shows I have a notification with no notifications present. All notifications are cleared. Previous version logged me out after the 4th or 5th opening (which seems to be fixed).
The revised app is worthless. I had to delete and reload it three times before I could get the login to work. The search page has the search button almost completely off screen and does not respond to touch. I had ZERO issues with the previous version of the app. I’m guessing this was developed by the lowest bidder.
First - the primary selection screen, every time you open the app you have to select your region. Why can’t this be saved. Second - why is there no ability to zoom on the pictures of items? For me to zoom into a photo I have to take a screenshot, go out of the app and into photos just for me to get a better look at an item.
The latest update brought image zoom (welcome to the new millennium), but it also removed thumbnail view so now you are stuck with a list view which wastes 75% of the iPad display area and forces me to scroll 100x more. There are other unattended issues as well, overall a crippled update.
I’ve been using the public surplus website for a while now and have purchased some items from them. I decided to try the app today and was instantly disappointed. The “submit bid” tab doesn’t work at all and when i click on items it tends to freeze. I went back on the website and everything worked fine there.
I was hoping this latest update would fix the bug issues with this app but unfortunately it has not. It’s still glitches up pretty bad. The website itself doesn’t have the same issues. It’s just not as easy to navigate.
App was working before. But For days to weeks now, this app has not been working. I can’t see the auctions. The minute I tap the app and it starts loading, it defaults to a pop-up error message. I’ve deleted the app and re-installed, thinking that would fix it but it hasn’t. Please help! Or just fix the app.
We need to be able to see the questions and answers on the app. They are pretty critical to the bidding process. Having to go to the full site to see them makes the app nearly useless.
The app has frequent glitches. The photos don’t load reliably and many times it stops responding and a server error appears. As others stated it would be very nice if the zoom worked on photos.
Good features such searching auction from the current auction you’re bidding is disabled; This forces you to go to the website using computer if you want something else from that auctioneer.
When I filter motor pool list and scroll down, I cannot scroll down all the bottom of the list. It starts refreshing the list again and again and end up with a list of three items. I have screen recording if you need it.
They’ve locked me out of my Account and no matter what I say or ask they will do nothing about it. Worst support I’ve ever seen. It’s unfortunate they have the monopoly on this service because we are forced to deal with their slop.
Why are you forcing me to add a payment method when logging in? Payment method should be added when you decide to bid. Now I am not even able to see the auctions, rendering the app useless and with out purpose. This is a disservice to the public agencies.
Service team is rude. The app is terrible and hard to use. This product is not widely know so many states only have 1 or no products listed in the whole state. Don’t waste your time with this company.
I’ve already had to update it like four times and I don’t see no process in the App Store nor will it allow me to refresh the process of the app updating.
Worthless after one week. Kept getting error messages. Deleted and reloaded still not working. Ebay and other auction apps work great. Maybe someone should look into having PS app built by whoever does ebay
Wish list: Share feature somos can send a listing to My friends Ability to zoom in on pictures Ability to copy text from listing so I can copy and paste a serial number or model number into a search engine
Won’t let me bid on a 4wheeler due to that some bidders want as I quote more mileage bidders! So how do you get to bid if you can’t bid oh the person on the chat says I need more miles. But you can’t get mores mileage! This isn’t for new costumers just old ones!!!! B***S***
The app is really terrible, this is supposed to help you make decisions on weather you want to purchase items up for auction which in many cases you can’t look at in person but you can’t even zoom into the small pictures it displays. Also,it doesn’t even remember your settings for location and distance.Use a browser and save yourself a lot of headaches.
Despite the problems with the prior version of the app, I had found a way to make it useable. However the new version has serious problems and does not always list all of the active auctions. The biggest problem I have is that if I search a specific radius from a zip code, it will only show me about a dozen auctions, regardless of how many actually exist. I believe it is a glitch with the scroll-to-refresh feature. This makes the app unusable. Just revert back to the prior version, please.
Bid on auctions from public agencies directly from your mobile device, track your bids and manage your notifications in real time. The app also makes it easy bid on auctions from anywhere, allowing you to search our extensive set of auctions and complete the process easily from your device.
