I started a new job that makes commuting by the light rail a perfect option for me so I downloaded RTD Mobile Ticketing to buy some tickets in advance. However, I can’t buy tickets in advance because RTD is free today for New Years Day so when I click buy tickets a notification comes up saying today is free and it won’t let me purchase tickets, even for future use when I go through My Wallet. This is a horrible programming oversight. Seems like this app has a lot of glitches to work through to be reliable. It’s frustrating that RTD can be hard enough to use and rely on for commuting and then there are extra barriers like the glitches in this app that discourage using public transit. For such a progress city and a state that cares about our environment it’s sad that we don’t have the leading, most cutting edge public transit. Come on RTD, get your head in the game and be an industry leader!
Wow. This app is so poorly designed and half baked – Denver should be ashamed of itself. Apple Pay doesn’t work in this app. Keychain isn’t integrated to help you login, and the app constantly logs you out, which is extremely frustrating when you’re standing there trying to buy a ticket only to find out you’re logged out, once again. Even more infuriating is that RTD has refused to allow you to load your passes into Apple Wallet, so you’re forced to use the app – you know, the app that constantly logs you out, but doesn’t utilize keychain to help you log back in. Everything, including schedules and fare information, just directs you out of the app and into Safari. This app is so half-baked and poorly designed – what a joke. Get it together, RTD. It’s late 2022. Riding a scooter is a far more technologically advanced experience than catching public transportation in a major metropolitan area of 3 million people. Be better.
I'm visiting from out of town and thought I would use the RTD app to get around via public transit. The app totally froze and crashed every time I put in my CC info to buy a ticket. As a workaround, I was able to log in through my browser and buy the ticket there, and it did transfer to the app, but come on, really?? For a city with public transit as good as Denver, the app should be better.
My ride Card system was GREAT! But rtd dropped It - mostly because their website was/still is problematic. I reported specific problems often. But NOTHING was ever improved. I think RTD workers just got tired of the phone calls - mine were numerous. I have VERY LITTLE HOPE for a new MyRide system. UX expert viewing your system for YEARS. Bad grades, RTD. Shameful for high-tech Denver! Glad I read the other review - not connected to Apple Wallet? That’s crazy. Talked to customer Service in Union Station about MyRide returning. Basically they lied to me about it. Said I could add funds in app. BUT this is just mobile ticket for every ride. Fuhgeddaboutit.
It would be so much easier to use my phone with RTD if Apple Wallet’s Transit Card feature was supported, similar to Chicago’s Ventra and the Bay’s Clipper card. It’s extremely common for my phone’s battery to die before I get home, a scenario that would leave me stranded if I didn’t have the physical MyRide card. Apple Wallet can store these transit cards in a specialized way that allows the phone to be scanned even after the battery has died. This would be an extremely helpful addition to the app that would make it far, far, far more usable. Please consider it!
Not sure who designs the customer facing applications like their desktop and mobile web browser apps or iOS apps but it’s very amateurish. It’s like taking us back 10 years where an extremely basic UX is used, it’s a chore to navigate, and there’s software bugs everywhere. Did these guys even pilot the iOS app with some ordinary people to make sure the app is easy to use, is aesthetically pleasing, and makes you want to come back the next day to use it. Definitely doesn’t look like it to me. I would have been fired at my engineering job years ago if I put up this quality of work.
This application is worthless please advise RTD riders of iPhone issues.
I was advised by an RTD supervisor to reload the RTD ticket application. I did this after being denied service on two busses while on the phone with the RTD supervisor. The application then changed my password and says that an email was sent with the new password. I did this 5 times. No email was sent to my email address. Yes I did check spam trash primary etcetera etcetera. I was one hour late for work. Still attempting to correct issues with the applications for my ride home, this is still not corrected, nor have I received and email from RTD to correct my password reset. Please provide a link for reimbursement of ticket purchase.
I downloaded the app, chose to purchase a day pass(at a student discount rate), was able to chose when to activate the pass, had the choice of whether to save my cc or not, and easily activated the pass later with no problems. May have taken 5 min or less to do all this and the app never made me purchase anything or save a credit card. Nice going RTD, I am surprised. I am not sure what Statica did wrong with her setup but the app does not behave as she stated in her review.
Don’t even know where to start. 30 minutes getting user name and password to work on laptop and phone. The app seems to be completely different??? Added payment method to computer but doesn’t show up on app. Tried to add payment method to phone but no place to save it. I bought a $3 ticket just to see if I could save payment info. Nope. Why is there a screen for saved payment methods if there’s no way to save the payment? It is saved on line but they don’t talk. Tried reinstalling the app. Nope. I really don’t need this frustration. Clearly there are better ways to get home from the airport.
This is a great app! Very convenient, especially for purchases. For any users with a badge (Ex: college students, RTD employees), it would be wonderfully useful if we could upload our badge to our account. It would be extremely convenient to have our badge on our phone rather than worrying about losing our badge/ID.
It’s really nice that we can buy tickets prematurely, however, I have an RTDCollegePass and it would be nice if we could add passes onto our accounts. It would also be nice if we could see the train/bus schedules without the app transferring the request to Safari. The other app RTD Denver (bus icon) is way better for looking up schedules and even shows the estimated tram location. You should definitely think about adding these features to the app, otherwise it’s almost useless for a college student.
Do not be afraid! I’m not sure why there is such an army of critics. The app is the same platform used in Boston and many other cities and it works great! I have a feeling many of these 1 star reviews are user error + venting about general grievances related to Denver regional transport. I can’t speak for Denver transit but I can say this app gets the job done.
Bad. Lol. First time using it and Apple Pay never worked. When switching apps, it auto logs you out each time. Frustrating when you’re trying to show your ticket and have to relogin each time. Still no apple wallet for three years running now. The app constantly takes your to safari and to RTD website for any additional info. I couldn’t pay with a normal card as the app wouldn’t accept payment in any form. Eventually paid in their website via safari then went into the app to see the ticket. Terrible app developers.
It saves me a lot of time by getting tickets online instead of waiting in line at the counters. However, it would have been wonderful if it lets me save tickets to my wallet. In that way, I don’t have to log in to the app and show the tickets. It is especially beneficial if you buy monthly passes via this app and it is a bit painful to login twice every day to get your tickets.
I commute daily using RTD buses from my home to school and it would be excellent if I could just add my student pass to my apple wallet and pull it up whenever I get on the bus without having to bring my card every single time. I sometimes go to the gym and bringing my wallet with me is problematic. I don’t see why this is not an option yet, given that the card already uses NFC.
I don't know if all the bad reviews are just plain wrong or if there might be something to them, but all I know is this app makes it completely effortless for me to get around in Denver every time I'm in Denver. I buy a day pass with airport and badabing, I can go anywhere on any bus or train. It's really nice.
This app is very simple and easy to use, and is nice to be able to use a credit card to purchase tickets. It includes nice features like RTD Trip Planner and Next Ride, which is useful to find your next bus. You can buy tickets in advance, unlike the other review said. Would definitely recommend!
My son has CP and is visually impaired. He uses enlarged text on his cell phone and it’s impossible to see anything in the app. He keeps accidentally hitting the activation for the tickets and the tickets show up as used even though he never used them. It makes absolutely no sense that your tickets has to be used immediately after activating it and that they expire without being scanned. Shouldn’t they show up as used only AFTER the driver scans them?? Worthless app.
I loved using the app originally but the system banned my whole device from using it from a charge that was blocked automatically, so i need to get a whole new device and make new accounts to be able to ride the RTD again. Just warning you all who read this to make sure your cards don’t block their system or else your device banned.
I was always able to use my credit card to buy tickets on the app until the app was"upgraded." Now it doesn't proceed any farther than letting me enter my credit card information. It freezes and doesn't permit me to complete the purchase. I've uninstalled and reinstalled any times and that doesn't solve the problem. I'm using IOS 16.3.1 and this the only app that doesn't work. Not a good look for a major transit system.
App’s been great for quite a while. However with the transition to iOS 13, it’s been quite unstable for me. Purchasing is fine, it’s actually displaying the details for an activated ticket. It adds some anxiety to boarding as I’m never confident that the information will be on the screen when I have to present it to a driver.
I’m just getting used to this app, but I feel certain that it is impossible to buy both full fare tickets and discount student/youth tickets in one transaction. Why can’t these be purchased at the same time? I sometimes travel with my kid, so it’s appropriate for me to buy a full fare for myself and a discount student/youth ticket for my child.
You’re able to “add funds” and use them at a later time. However, we had added funds and where not allowed to use them. We put $18 dollars onto the app. When going to buy tickets the charge was for over $18. Because of this, we had to use a card payment. Never got to use the funds we already put onto the account. Also, we had to add funds to create an account in the first place. Felt like we got scammed.
Can’t buy my ticket today because os app crashing. Other times, too many steps. And today, if it did work, it was not offering an opportunity to buy multiple passes. There has been plenty of time over the last few years to make this a perfectly smooth app for a perfect app application. Please don’t discourage me from using RTD and get better.
As a student, I use RTD Lightrail to travel to and from campus. But the constant delays and cancellations of trains on my route almost makes owning a pass worthless. I have wasted hours at lightrail stations waiting for trains that never come. This is especially concerning at night, because there is no security presence at most lightrail stops, and there are always bums and people using drugs. I do not recommend using this service if you can avoid it.
Apple Pay makes this super painless and quick. Before Apple Pay you had to manually enter CC info every time, or attempt to navigate the Byzantine process of creating an account, and keeping it logged in on the app.
Super easy to use to buy a ticket ahead of time and then activate the ticket when it’s time to use it. Easy to set up account, plan trips, see schedules and system map...all on one user-friendly app.
Great concept, pretty easy to use. I just don’t understand how regardless of how many updates there may be, the app still crashes at random. Like pull it up to show the bus driver my pass and it crashes as I’m turning my phone so they can see it. Always fun to be talked to like I’m an idiot for flashing my phone without any apparent reason. 👍🏻 Fix it.
Easy and convenient. I appreciate Apple Pay support - it’s not that I don’t trust RTD to store my credit card, but it removes the need for them to do so. One less thing to go wrong. I notice that the App Store page says that the app supports Apple Wallet, but I haven’t seen a way to store my tickets. Am I missing something?
Just downloaded the App to try out the new G-Line from Ward Rd in Wheatridge to Union Station. The app worked well and purchase via ApplePay was flawless. Internal links to schedules, etc. worked fine. We'll find out how well it performs in the field tomorrow. It would be great if it had an internal link to launch the ParkMobile app for park and ride situations.
If you’re using this for the A line, this app does not support Apple Wallet. Which means you will need to have your phone ready to show when the ticket person comes (and open up the RTD app). Additionally, they don’t want to see the barcode for some reason, only the time flashing. The agent said their scanners can’t even read the bar codes from the app oddly enough. Unless there is a line at the machines (which I’ve never seen) I’m not sure this offers more than a paper ticket. A paper ticket I can rest on the seat so I don’t have to fumble finding my phone. And they usually check the ticket multiple times. Update: I was double billed $9.00 for the A line despite it only showing one ticket in the app. This app is atrocious.
When there’s a new version of the app, a scary-looking WARNING dialog is thrown up. This should really just be an informational message. When you choose to update immediately, the app takes you to the iTunes Store, not the App Store. This app should allow you to use Apple Pay, instead of relying on a stored credit card.
The app will randomly log you out and don’t tie into your keychain so it takes a few minutes to log back in again. It doesn’t support Apple wallet, so you need to open up the app each time you use it. Once you get past that, it works, but it is not better than a simple card in your wallet.
This app will put you in danger. Insane that busses don’t run on a schedule but also aren’t tracked live with gps. Everyone has a gps in their pocket but rtd can’t tell where busses are. This app is always inaccurate and it will put you in danger. You will be abandoned in the cold because a bus has gone offline (junkies) and the app has no way of knowing. This was functional in west Oakland in 1995 and rtd can’t keep up.
The user flow of this app is like the plot of a David Lynch movie. Why does the “trip planner” screen not have a “buy ticket for this trip” button? Why is the map of fare zones buried in a tiny link multiple taps away from the “buy tickets” screen? Why have you made it so challenging for the user to figure out what ticket they need to buy? WHY do multiple buttons just open a safari page designed to look like the app??? Guys. Try again.
App works great when it works. I don’t use it often and for some crazy reason it auto logs me out. I’ll be on the light rail and trying to type in my info. No other apps do this. Please update it so it doesn’t log us out over and over and over.
Fantastic app! Glad this is finally live! It’s going to be so convenient using this in the future! Three things I’d like to have: 1 Apple Pay 2 A light rail map without having to open a browser 3 It should be quicker to decide if you need a local or regional ticket... instead of having to figure out if you need 1-2 zones or more, maybe select where you’re starting and where you’re going, and have the app select the correct ticket for you. Keep up the good work!
I had at least $36 left to spend after loading $160 to catch the bus from work and back home and after I stopped working at my job I had $36 left to spend on rides and about a month or so later it was gone!!! RTD are thieves!!! Also not to mention I’m not the first person to complain about this either RTD fix this or you will be sued it’s not right to steal from people!!!!
Absolute trash. You can’t even purchase one ticket now. Thanks to RTD, I’m now stranded until someone can pick me up after a long day because the app does not allow you to buy a standard local ticket. In the future, fix the app before you move everything over and change it all. This is awful.
Why aren’t the schedules accurate? Train just came 10 minutes early (R train, northbound on a Monday night hit 9 mile at 9:14 when it was supposed to be 9:24. Now I gotta wait 40 minutes for the next one ‘cause I trusted what This app said; that it would be here at 9:24 PM.
This is a fine way to get bus fares, and improves the bus riding experience to not need cash finally. But this has to get Apple Wallet/NFC support so I can tap for my fare, or better yet to add my EcoPass I have through my employer. I would also love to see the 10 Pass Ride book added to the digital app
Slow process Loads up some unnecessary stuff???heavy?? Maybe give a choice of preload just the route needed I may ride in 3 to 4 routes in a month( so I don't need all the extra info about other routes) Pick and choose routes at my discretion Gps/ stops real time are great No more long time waiting in the cold It can pin point the couch down to 2 min location Maybe a light version Use two fingers map is a pain I recommend download at use it
I needed to use this app this morning to purchase a ticket after taking my car in for repairs. I needed to reset my password, but 45 minutes later and the reset email still hasn't arrived. Luckily I found the cash. People need this functionality on the fly and this app does not provide.
Please bring in FaceID for logging in. I also think the app should host the map, schedules, etc. In the app and not just offer hyperlinks to websites. Otherwise, the pass purchasing is relatively easy and convenient.
The app should have bus schedules on it, but it only leads you to the website which doesn’t have a concise way to see the schedule info. Developers should work on making it a comprehensive app.
Download the app, created an account , tried to buy local tickets and the app has blocked that option . Logged out and this feature works Again . It’s better not to create an account . Called RTD and they said there is nothing wrong with my account . Whoever Designed this app should be fired .
I downloaded the app, picked my ticket type, paid for it, activated it, and off I went, all in just a minute or two. Love that it works with Apple Pay, too. Nice job!
