Simply put, It’s a great app. Not only allows you to practice scales in any position on the neck, but allows you to visually see alternate scales which fit over your compositions. This app is extremely helpful to find triads and have you thinking out of the box for soloing and riffing. Where it shines for me is coming up with interesting chord progressions that wildly depart from anything my thinking brain could imagine or muscle memory could auto find. The free version is outstanding but the $2.99 upgrade really makes this app shine. It’s a simple to use creation tool that far exceeds its design usage of a jam along scale instructor. If you are a visual thinker like me, it can open new worlds. Give it a go.
It is a very well-made app and extremely useful. However, I had to take off a full star because of a very sketchy website instructions. If you click on to write a review you get an option to see app support. The App Support page is very very basic and leaves unanswered questions. The Q&A page is a joke; it does not ask questions relevant to the app. I could come up with quite a number of useful questions that would actually pertain to questions that users may find unclear. Furthermore, this app support could be drastically improved by adding how to videos for each feature. I am convinced they would sell many more premium Versions if they simply took a little time to make their app support site much more useful.
I hesitated to spend $2 on the premium version but thought to myself, why not, it’s only $2. now that i have it i would easily buy it again for $100. i’m gonna say that one again. i would wholeheartedly be willing to spend $100 on this app if i ever needed to buy it again. this app completely blew my expectations out of the water. everything i need to refer to for notes, scales, modes, and everything in between is found in this app. 15/10 rating. i want to marry the person who made this thing but i am already humbled and intimidated by their intelligence.
Just Grateful reviews for the creator of this app.
Great app, been using this app for couple years and I’m loving it. It has updated few essential scales which all together made available all essential scales to players they ever need. Never wrote reviews in my life so this is the first I’m writing because seems like the creators of this app understood my inner heart needs and understood guitar learners needs and feelings and put it together very well for easy to learn. Thank you a lots lots to people behind this amazing app. Best scale app I’ve ever came across till now. ❤️❤️❤️
Recently purchased but have played for decades. This is the greatest!
I spent years playing guitar. Studied under an amazing jazz player from New Orleans. Began studying chords and scales intensely while playing in a band and the absolute best approach that unlocked the mystery of the guitar neck is in this recent app update. The CAGED approach is essential. Once grasped the entire neck is opened up to the mind. Well, here it is well presented. I’m impressed with this developer, he is responsive to guitar players and I heartily recommend the app to beginners and advanced players. Thx for such a great product!
Ive been using this off and on for close to four years now and is has continued to be helpful from my early stages to my current stage of guitar proficiency. Reverse chord finder was a great addition when they implemented it some time ago. If you're passionate about guitar, i suggest a circle of fifths tattoo on your forearm and this app on ur phone. Also tenuto, theory, panotuner, and ScaleBank apps. Tab pro is also good for learning covers. Keep learning and find enjoyment from the simple lessons!
Minimalist approach showing 1 scale at a time, 1 position at a time. The color feature is a nice touch to allow you to learn relationships within that position easily w/o overwhelming students. The color emphasizes locations of 3rds 5ths & 7ths by color. Now students can find their own mnemonic shortcuts that will carry over to other scales. Only change would be to be able turn off labels, to operate by root shape & colors only. Another might be to selectively turn on labels for just 3rds, just 5ths, just 7ths, relying on root shape & label for the 1.
I always wanted a way to practice a scale with a sample track, and this lasted update has that! I’m learning scale more quickly and I’m have fun while doing so. There are so many styles like, Jazz, blues, and rock samples to play along with. And you can also request a track. I have tried this option yet. This is definitely worth the in-app purchase.
After trying multiple apps and downloading files and PDFs this is the easiest and most comprehensive I have found. Makes seeing the relationships between keys much easier. Pay the couple bucks and get the full edition and you will be very happy with the amount of information you get.
This is a nice looking scale app and one of the easiest to use that I’ve found. It’s quick to change scales and roots so you can compare different patterns and positions. Easier than almost any other I’ve used. They include useful practice tracks to play over as well. Very good.
Versatile, fun, and it grows with you. You do have to apply yourself to get the full benefit. Scales are the foundation. If you’re serious about learning scales, get it. If you’re not sure, get it. It’ll be there when you’re ready. And pay for premium. It is a hundred times better. You’ll see ten minutes into dabbling with the free version.
I really enjoy being able to view the scale patterns while playing to the provided backing tracks. I find I am able to memorize the scale patterns much more quickly using this app over other methods of learning I have tried in the past and it makes learning scales fun!
This is a pretty good app (the parts I can access for free, that is). The only criticism I have is that the Acoustic guitar sound isn’t that great, but that’s a low level issue. I’d really like to make use of some more scales but I just don’t want another subscription in my life. I’d happily do a one-time payment for separate sections.
If you want to support this dev, do it in ChordBank. If you decide to pay to unlock all scales, doing it in that app will still allow you to unlock other features, whereas if you do that here, you would have to pay twice to later unlock all the chord and scale features in ChordBank, which is just this app plus a lot more. I just found another app called Chord! that does everything that this app and everything that ChordBank does for way cheaper (though it is sans the jam tracks). I get more info faster with the other app.
I had trouble learning scales at first. Just looking them up online and never really memorizing them just learning them in the moment . But when I started using this I noticed the parents been tween the scales and sped up my learning so much.
This is a useful guitar reference tool that covers a lot of ground.I recently thought I found a bug, but it turned out to be my own lack of music theory knowledge! My message to support was promptly answered and was provided resources which proved helpful.
I have been playing guitar since I was 14 yrs. old. I just turned 69, I use this app with students and fellow musicians. It’s a great tool for when I write and work in the studio with musicians and bands I track, mix and master. Well worth the investment if you’re are serious about your knowing your instrument.
I love this app in its simplicity and usability. All the most common scales clearly presented on a fret board. Option to have metronome on or off. Once you get a scale down you can try your hand at soloing over some tracks. Other useful options as well. Endorse!
The more I learn guitar, the more I realize this app has to offer. There's no piece of gear you can get that will improve your sound and playing anywhere near what practicing using these tools will do.
Getting this app is a great way to practice away from your guitar.. a 7 string option or possible alternate tuning features would be Great tho.. as a bass player i enjoy playing with a guitarists of all skill levels and recognizing the shapes or patterns makes jamming a breeze..
I like the new update. Everything looks a lot cleaner than it previously did. I dislike how when you are in the caged mode you cannot see the notes outside that position to see where one position starts and the next ends. That was one of my favorite parts about this app.
Great app for a quick and responsive practice sesh. I wish I had this when I first started out; it takes you right up the neck with scale patterns in every key, the tonic notes are highlighted, and you can explore the circle of fifths, bringing theory and practice together in a simple yet effective way.
I am very pleased with this app. It’s easy to play in any key using many different scales. There seems to be around 10 different style jam tracks to play with. Reggae, Metal, Country etc. it would be nice to see more tracks added down the road. Also an addition of chords and Triads would be nice. Over all this app is great. I would recommend it to anyone looking to broaden there knowledge. It helps you learn Theory but remember “You will only get out of it what you are willing to put in.” silent_theguitar_guy
I like this app it’s very well done. Very user friendly. I just wish it would let me pick sharps or flats for those scales. It gives you the letter and the option of #/flat but in the scale it comes up as a flat and I would prefer to choose based in what I am doing. That is all.
Great backing tracks and I find them very useful for practicing. Some suggestions would be adding landscape mode to see the scales as you would on the actual guitar. Also please keep adding backing tracks such as blues shuffle, classic metal such as Black Sabbath, wider array of rock ones. Thanks and please keep adding!
I just bought me a new electric guitar and I just got this application as a complement. I could not be happier. The rest will be history. Now I can practice music scales anytime. Thank you for designing this app and having made it affordable. Just the ideal app for me at this time.
Scale Bank and Chord Bank is all you will ever need. Upgrade to the premium services on both and you will never need other books to carry with you! I've been playing guitar for 50+ years and I'm very satisfied!
This app does almost everything I could want...simply, and quickly. Handy as all getout. Three things I'd add (I'm sending the devs a req): 1. Scale degrees of all notes. 2. Add the Relative Minor. 3. Have a tap & hold drop-down for the scale types. This way you could see the fretted notes change in an A-B'ing kind of way, because visualizing scale shapes are important during memorization, and this'd be one extra little tidbit of help. But these are just small wishes within a solid and quality app.
This is a very informative app. It helps greatly in your own creativity while practicing scales and exploring alternates scales to fit your personality of playing. I definitely recommend spending the 2.99 to see it all.
This is an amazing resource for anyone learning or refining their knowledge. However, the user interface seems really outdated for iOS 12, I feel like I’m 5-6 years in the past when iPhone 4s was at their peak. I really want to love this app. Please update the UI!
This is an easy to use all-in-one app that can really help you practice all sorts of scales along the neck. Without buying the upgrade, however, you are very limited. But in my opinion, the upgrade is very much worth buying.
This app logged me out after an update and now wants money on subscription. I had access for years easily and referenced it all the time, but Im deleting all their products today and getting the classic basic instructor posters online somewhere.
Subscription models agave ruined the App Store. You end up paying thousands for an app you will never own. I will NEVER subscribe to an app. Please just let us buy a full version at a reasonable price instead of being greedy. Apps used to cost .99 cents. It’s out of control now.
