I think this app is perfectly executed by the developer. It’s extremely useful, has the ideal set of features, and is super easy to use because it’s totally obvious how to use it no matter how forgetful you are. If you’re like me you find that the increasing complexity of being online requires filling out text messages, emails, social media, physicians wellness sites, drop down boxes, educational sites, comments sections, etc. etc. with information that you want to be effectively written so that it’s understood correctly by the recipient. It’s easy make costly, harmful or hurtful mistakes when trying to get your written point across in so many different situations. This app is your sloppy copy to work out the bugs and thoughtfully read what you’re going to say before rushing to hit the submit button on the target app. 1) Type it on the Scrap Paper first. (Set it side by side with the target app if you want to go back and forth). 2) Fix your mistakes on the Scrap Paper 3) Share it directly into text messages, emails, other apps, etc Or: Cut it and paste it where you need it In settings you can change font, font size, font color, background color, sync to your devices I’m really happy with it. It does relieve the stress of trying to create effective communication online.
Micro. Applications. Micro. Services. Micro. INTERACTIONS. I don't need an application to tell ME what to do. I need a specific function fixed in the way I want it fixed. The simply lack of ANY decent color pickers in the App Store illustrates this point perfectly. I want to hit a hotkey, click a point, and have that hex value copied to pasteboard. I DON'T want a mixer. I DON'T need a window offering me 100 things I can do with this color. I WANT a bloody hex value. Scratch paper nails this. I can hit a hotkey (⌃⌥⌘\ in my case), it opens a persistant (Spanning ALL of my Macs! NICE touch) text editor I can slapdash a quick string into, and with a quick stroke of the hotkey again, it's gone. Saved, held, and shared across system, still there when I summon it again. Then there's the auto copy on select feature... again: nicely thought out. Realising this will likely be a scratchpad, the tool REDUCES workflow steps instead of adding more. To the author: This tool is PERFECT the way it is. DO. NOT. ADD. MORE. FEATURES. You will serve ONLY to bloat it and render it less appealing, unless it is truly disableable or can be entirely rendered invisible. If you truly MUST append worthless bloat to it ("people need checkboxes!" or similar idiocy), FORK the source and release a "Pro" version or some nonsense. But as it stands? OUTSTANDING work.
The ultimate scratch pad for macOS and iOS. On the Mac it lives in the menu bar and can be brought to the front with a hotkey, giving you the same functionality as Raycast's floating note. You can choose the text and background colors , as well as the font. You have the discretion to keep the open window on top of all other apps (recommended). When not in use, you just close the window and it keeps the content safe. You can export the text via the share sheet and because it's text, you have access to tools like spelling and grammar, search and replace and even text to speech. You can even keep Scrap Paper synced between Macs and iOS with iCloud. I use the app a dozen or more times a day.
Frustrated by sudden price in Apple School Manager
We've been using this app in our organization for years, and it's always been free. In the last few months, a cost has been added, so I can't deploy it for our newest staff members. Scrap Paper is super convenient, and I would probably pay for it personally to keep deploying it to new staff if it was possible for me to do so, but we have managed Apple IDs and devices, and it's just not worth the red tape and paperwork Legal will throw at us if we ask to purchase it through Apple School Manager. It's convenient, but it's not crucial, so we can't justify the expense. It's a shame. This was a super handy little app. It would be awesome if it could be free for Schools, as I know several of our 40 staff members wound up adding it to their personal devices after using it on the work devices I set up and deployed for them. I don't have a way to advertise it to them now. Womp womp.
I needed a simple solution like this to jot down my end of workday thoughts so I could pick up where I left off the next day...just a single document that I could use as "scrap" that I wouldn't accidentally lose, or wouldn't get lost on my desktop. I thought something like this might exist for the menubar, but nearly everything I tried from the app store that comes close to this either tries to do too much, or is too ugly to use :) This app is exactly what I need, and it's beautiful to boot. I switched the font to Courier to keep things monospaced so I can use Markdown formatting, and I couldn't have dreamed up a better solution for what I was looking for. Thanks for making this free!
I needed a quick access notepad to store recent information or text that I use on a regular basis. It gets old finding the files on your drive just to copy/paste it. Now the text is always readily available in the task bar. Any time I delete or add new text it remembers it each time I reboot. The ONLY issue I have is the size of the pad resets each time and the initial size is tiny. I have to make it larger each time. Hopefully they'll add a feature to remember the last size when you reboot. REQUEST: Remember the size of the notepad upon reboot please!!!!
Well, if I wasn't using Scrap Paper all day everyday I would think a single sticky note couldn't be that helpful, but, well, I use it all day everyday. That it syncs from one of my Macs to the other so my workflow is seamless between home office and my work office. It's simply great! I tried 5 other sticky note apps. This is the one I have stayed with for it's functionality and and simplicity. The only thing I wish it had is the ability for Rich Text so it could show bold and italicized words etc.
How many times do you just need to write down a simple note for later on? How many pieces of paper do you have with notes all over the place? This program is perfect as it provides a simple place to write a quick note that you can then pull up from any other icloud sync'd device (iPAd, Mac, iPhone). You don't get any kind of multi-note capacity or organizational tools, but you don't need them. This is for people that just need a simple place to store some text for quick reference.
There are times when all you want to do is jot something down without a lot of fuss. "Notes" is too complex, I have to open the program, create a new note, give it a name and then delete it when I am done. Similarly with "TextEdit", or with opening up Pages, it just takes too long. But with this app, you just click the icon on the task bar and the note opens up for you to jot your thought. If you want to save it, you can copy and paste or even export it to a regular note. Perfect!
My only wish is that you can have more than one on your desktop at any given time, and that you can have the option to create clear notes (like literally a transparant textbox that you'd type in). And also the ability to choose your own color outside of the preset ones they provide would be cool, but overall I legitimately love this app.
Scrap Paper is the amaing app that I was looking for, it is minimalistic, uses the menu bar, and doesent have a GUI! The only thing is I wish that it had an option to change the font (and maybe the size), because the current font isnt really my style, I think it makes it look a little bulky. But apart from that, an AMAZING APP!!!
Scrap Paper is very handy for capturing a bit of text or making a quick note without having to interupt ones work flow. It pops up with the stroke of a hot key & disappears just as easily. The window can be resized & moved around the screen as needed. And, of course, the text of the note is retained until one decides to remove it. Notes can even be syncrhonized using iCloud. It is perfect for my needs!
I do use it daily and there is nothing else as simple. But there is a lot more they could do with it no doubt. I'd be happy to pay for it if it had more flexibility; i wouldn't say more features, i don't want it to get bloated, but I imagine several improvments to it that still keep the tool as simple and elegant as always. Either way, i'll keep using it.
Taking lecture notes can be annoying if you're using one device to both take notes and view lecture recordings/Zoom screens. While Evernote has a similar tool, it's not even close in terms of customization and saving features. Scrap Paper allows me to efficiently jot notes without the distraction of app-switching.
You want something simple to jot stuff into? Look no further, it has no frills and it servers that exact purpose. It has super light customization options and you don't even have to use those if you don't want to. I would pay $1-$2 for the App as a thank you to the developer.
This is the app I've been wanting for 20 years. There have been others that are close, but this is perfect for me: simple interface, small footprint, but most importantly, available on top of any application, including full screen. Finally! Thank you!
Just what I was looking for. Simple little app that lets me take a quick note while on a client call, or when I have a random thought for an in-progress novel, or even when I want to save links I come across to come back to later. Less is more with this app.
All I have ever wanted was this app. A quick hide/show feature that can quickly pop up when I need to jot down a thought or two. The fact that this app is in the upper tray instead of busying up the dock is also a plus. Super simple design with export functionality. Thanks for a great app!
This is exactly what I was looking for when I found out Tyke needed Rosetta to run. This app is quick to launch and use, simple to understand, and easy for creating temporary notes or to use as a holding area for cut and paste items. I love it.
Find the blinking cursor a little distracting when doing other things with it pinned above all apps. Is there an option to have the cursor stay solid? If not, that would be a very welcom options. Thanks
Scrap Paper is GREAT. Minimal, simple, one click to access, one click to go away, and — the kicker — flawless, instantaneous MacOS/iOS sync. And the one and only time I've hadf to contact the dev, the reply was immediate. This is one of those indy apps I've come to rely on for absolutely basic routines.
This is the perfect place to store thoughts as your writing, or to paste things before you move them to a document. It's so simple and easy to use, and I don't know what I did before I found this app. Absolutly love it!
Indespensible - one of the most used apps on my mac
Love this tiny app and its integration between mac and iPhone iPad. Ingenious. Always starring at me so I don't forget the most important things to do today or my critical motivation quote of the day that quick jot down of an imp. scrap of info
I've never left a review on an app this quick before
Yes. YES. YES!!!! Flawless. I had been using the Evernote app that did something similar but it was so obnoxious with the constant "We updated your software" and "buy now" popups. This is so simple. So clean. 6/5
This is exactly what I was looking for. Sometimes you just need a place to copy/paste text like a scratch pad. Keep misc notes, etc. Then it syncs to icloud so I always have a copy and can read it on my phone or ipad. Great job!!! Thank you
I like to use the Scrap paper: I can copy paste: save and write on it, WORKS GREAT. I can keep on front of the any app if I want, I always use the HOTKEY to activate or hide the note. TIME SAVER ! MUST HAVE! thanks again for making this great app.
I was getting so frustrated with all the Notes app, and their features, and especially their syncing, when all I needed was the equivilant of a digital piece of paper. Scrap Paper has just enough customability and importantly simplicity. Love it!
Really pleased with Scrap Paper's functionality. It's basic, and that's what I wanted, but it also has helpful features such as selecting all and copying, and export selections to other third party apps (in my case, Spark and Things 3). Very useful tool.
As they themselves say: it is there when you need it. Very useful to jot down anything you want to use later. Best of all, it can sync via icloud to your iphone or iPad Scrap Paper app
It does what I need - I can take a quick note - and never worry about saving, where it's located, etc. Everybody needs this or they need a pencil, a pad of paper, and a waste basket with recycling.
Such a simple App that offers an easy way to keep notes readily available. I really like it, and cannot see using my Mac without it. (*****) all day everyday!
This is SUCH a handy app to have up there in the menu...the perfect thing to save a note, an idea, a phone number...anything! It's quick, easy and just perfect! THANK you!..
I love this app I use it everyday and it has been so helpful. I has so many abilities which I just found out and I love it. When you write something on it you can go to edit and it will read it to you what you wrote. THE BEST APP EVER!!
It's very convenient having a quick tool to throw notes on. I'm really greatful the developers created this little notepad. Should come preloaded on all macs, absolutely love it.
SImple but functional. You can bring it up with a keyboard shortcut, you can bring it up even in full-screen mode, you can keep it front, you can even change fonts. You can't add another note, but it has its purpose. Recommended.
I love this app! It's exactly what I need and a hassle free way to get my thoughts down without dealing with opening a word app or sticky (which is somehow very inconvenient for me.)
Worked great till recent MacOS update. Icon has disappeared from Menu Bar and synching to iOS iPhone no longer occurs. Otherwise seems ok. Help please.
Sometimes you need a little bit of Scrap Paper while you are working on something. Maybe you are filling out online forms, and you want an app to copy bits of text from. Or you just want to jot down a random thought without creating a new note in your other notes app. Scrap Paper is a simple notes app with only one note. Scrap Paper is also available for macOS and features cross-device iCloud sync.
