Good and fast. But... no Apple Pay?
When I tried SimonSays out, I found that upload went smoothly and the service managed to return a decent transcript despite being given a poor quality recording. Of course, there were errors in the transcription, but I expected that because the content I gave it contained a lot of technical language. It still saved me a lot of time to avoid having to laboriously transcribe the whole file myself. The one thing I want that the service doesn't currently offer is the ability to pay for the service using Apple Pay.

Wish It Actually Worked
The short: The app is super buggy, doesn't work and was a waste of my money. The Long: I've been looking for an app that can both transcribe my interviews and also have them show up as ranges in FCPX. Unfortunetely Simon Says is super buggy to the point of being unsuable. The app is constantly crashing on me when I try to bookmark or add notes. Then when it launches back up all the previous work I've done is gone. Also the edit feature doesn't work at all. I'm using the latest version. Apparently Simon Says doesn't give refunds. If someone from Simon Says sees this, please reconsider giving refunds or seriously fix all the problems. I would love to use your app if it actually worked but until you do fix these issues I feel like I just threw $13 down the drain.

Fast, affordable, reliable. Crucial to my workflow
This app has completely changed the way I edit. It quickly and efficiently transcribes and translates in multiple formats, saving me hours upon hours of time in the NLE. It won't do all of your work for you (still need to correct specific terminology), but what ai does? I can't imagine working without Simon Says, and have already referred it to many colleagues. I look forward to growing with Simon Says, and I can't wait to see what innovations they come up with in the future.

Game Changer for one stop captioning and translations!!
I produce a lot of content for universities and public broadcast. Over the last 5 years our needs for closed captioning and translation have increaded tremdously. I've worked with half a dozen vendors with mixed reults and prices. Rarely can one vendor cover all of our needs. Add the convienance of NLE integration and I have never been more excited! Simon Says deserves 5 minutes of your time. You won't want to go back to any other service after this.

Super helpful
We're using this service as a tool for our editing of a feature documentary. The auto transcription is fine and on par with all other auto transcription services. I think they all use the same API anyway. But with this tool we can have an assistant clean up the auto transcript and get the text into the edit system using highlights/favorites. Once we figurd out how to use it within our system it's super helpful and a big time-saver in the editing process of a feature film.

Poor Accent Transcription w/ Poor Editing Functionality
The quality is subpar - I had to edit around a quarter of the full 8 minute output - it does not pick up accents well at all. Additionally, editing the transcription is an absolute pain. It opens up a webpage pop up within their app, which in itself is an incredily slow an painful process, with again very slow load times and touchy menus. It comes together feeling very messy and unpolished. They mentioned 2 months ago they were implementing in-app editing 'soon' - well it seems soon isn't 2 months in their books, so who knows! That's a bit of a deal breaker for me.

CHANGED MY LIFE!
I instantly took my video editing workflow on any talking head footage to a new speedy workflow. this is a long time dream come true. even better than imagined with the increadibly effective assembly mode. i even had a bug with FCPX and the SS team was so responsive to help get the bug fixed and an update made to the app within 24 hours! they even got on the phone with me to help solve the problem. This company is changing the game for the film industry! thank you Simon Says Ai! AO Productions loves you forever!

DaVinci Users Beware! Do things in a certain order!
I added some audio clips to this app thinking I could export the resulting transcriptions to Resolve, but I was wrong. It appears that the only way to get the markers into Resolve is if I send them through the initial script. This means that I now have to pay again for the same transcription and go through all the manual work of fixing it again. The script also didn't work with every one of my clips. Very clunky. Probably a better experience for other applications.

Mediocre
It does transcribe and does it fairly well. However - everything else it does is complete jank. The editor is choppy and where you are trying to edit text jumps around without reason. The software’s ability to recognize different voices is a complete joke and is 100% inaccurate. It can’t tell the difference between radically different voices which you would assume would be the easiest. When creating names for speakers the software will duplicate the names for no reason. This software behaves much more like a beta test rather than something that is ready for mass distribution. Glitchy and slow.

I love this system! Good job!
Intuitive interface and easy to navigate. Excellent customer service! A wonderful set of resources such as articles and instructional videos to help guide. Overall an impressive set up! If anything comes up, as an end-user, to help improve this system I will make sure to let them know. Glad to be a customer/member of Simon Says!

This program is excellent BUT
You have to read everything before you begin because making mistakes could cost you time. Also, their customer service is EXTREMELY helpful. I was frustrated but then I realized I was being a little lazy and trying to jump around. Also their "custom dictionaries" are the secret sauce.

Misleading
It all looks good on the surface, and I knew there was going to be an additonal cost. However, the app store said it would be 1.99, but didn't stipulate for what. A minute? It turns out that for an hour transcription, it costs around $15. That's fine, but I wish the app store would spell this out in the pricing section. Also, the app asks for your credit card info. I'm not comfortable with that, when I usually can pay thru my Apple account and not have to give out credit card details. So I have chosen not to use this app.

Pretty Good service, getting there
I have use Simon Says on a few projects now. The transcription is great! Fast, effective, and affordable. The features I most hope for, that is roundtripping to an NLE for a stringout, are still wonky. I hope they figure it out because it would become an indespensible part of my workflow.

Improved my Workflow
I record a lot of interviews, and this software has helped cut my post production work in half. I can comfortably do my interviews, begin prep for my posts, come back and everything is transcribed in minutes! Worth every penny, and they don't ask for much. Highly recommend.

I needed to transcribe videos for my business and wanted an easy, inexpensive solution. After trying the free route and being frustrated, I downloaded this app for the free trial. There are some mistakes, but overall this is more accurate than transcriptions I've paid services for in the past. And the costs are very reasonable. Thanks!

Excellent Tool for Lawyers
I subscribed to this software about 6 months ago for the purpose of transcribing police interviews in a case. The program is easy to use, even for Ludites. Accuracy is phenomenal - not perfect, but not difficult to edit. A great time saver for small law firms!

Disappointing
I recorded the audio from a Zoom talk and uploaded the file to Simon Says. The response was reasonably quick but the accuracy of the transcription was not great. I was subsequently able to watch the Zoom talk with Zoom's closed captions and these were much more accurate. The speaker was not the clearest by far but Simon Says ought to have been closer to Zoom's version than it was.

Frustrating
I spent money after reading a tutorial. The app didn't work. After reaching out to chat. I was given a different tutorial link, which actually looked like the graphics that I was seeing. However, I'm not wasting anymore time or money to see if it actually works. They should have had the correct tutorial in the app instead of sending it to me after I complained. Steer clear.

Such a time saver!
This app makes transcription and creating closed captions simple, easy, and affordable. Such a lifesaver since everything else about creating an online course has a huge learning curve. This was easy and much appreciated.

Crashes a lot
Using the mac app/FCPX plugin whenever you click on the screen it makes the app close the transcriptiuon. To continue you need to open it again. It happens so frquently that it renders the app unusable. The online app does not allow you to add names to speakers in a transcript. All in all, not worth it.

Cost of service is poorly explained.
You will pay by the minute for every transcription. That's not an unreasonable service, but I would like to see this clearly explained BEFORE I spend time downloading and installing.

Good! But at a Price
This software does an excellent job of transcribing any audio or video, though you will have to pay. The prices are on par or better than competitors, though it's a shame that it doens't come at a better or free price.

Don't Buy this software
It's pretty buggy because they didn't test the software out on the new Mac OS. They also don't have a fix for the new Davinci integration. Instead of coming up with a solve, they blame Davinci and make the customer fix the problems. Save yourself a lot of headache and try something else like descript.

The app is not free.
The app shows up as "Free" in the apple store, but it is actually a paid service. You get first 15 minutes for free, and then you have to pay. One star for beeing sneaky and wiggle your way into "Free" category, when using this app is clearly not. Uninstalled.

Worth every penny
While it isn’t perfect (nothing is, except a human being doing the transcription/translation), for the price (one of the lowest out there), it is worth every penny for the amount of time and effort it saves, IMHO. I’ve found that all I need to do is proofread the results, while doing some minor touchup work, but close to 90% of it is accurate for me (versus an old competitor/predecessor program from 5 years ago that would get maybe 25% correct on a good day, making it not even worth the trouble of correcting the 75%. Talk about pulling your hair out.). That being said, the results will be as good as your audio quality (garbage in, garbage out, as they say), so a good quality microphone and a rudmentary knowledge of filmmaking will go a long way with Simon Says. To be able to roundtrip a timeline from Final Cut X to Simon Says and to get a timeline with all the subtitles in a separate track in a matter of minutes is mind blowing. I can edit the video, audio, and subtitle all at the same time. When I think of how painful a process this was only 5 years ago, let alone 10 years ago when I edited 2 feature length docs, I’m truly amazed and grateful. I have yet to find another transcription program with the accuracy and integration of Simon Says. Even readying 3 old documentaries for online distribution, generating closed captions for the distributor, was less than $20 per film and took only minutes. In the old days, hundreds, if not thousands of dollars paying people to transcribe, then getting those subtitles into the film, makes me shudder just thinking about it. Simon Says takes one of the most painful aspects of filmmaking and makes it almost painless. Thank you!

The scammiest subscription I have ever used
Update 2: The monthly subscription service gets you discounted transcription time, but if you cancel your subscription service, you FOREFEIT THE HOURS YOU HAVE PURCHASED. Let me say that again. You have "bought" transcription hours, but in order to keep them, you must continue paying a monthly subscription. You don't get a refund, they don't freeze until you resume subscription, you LOSE them. Insane. Update: I've been in touch with the developer, and they are working to address my concerns. So far, my biggest UX problem (repeatedly being logged out) has been improved, so I've increased my rating. Basically, I am rooting for them to get this up to snuff, because when it works, it's magic. But I can't fully recommend them to other users, unless they are the type of user willing to be patient when things don't go quite as expected. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I really want to love this. But there are several mission critical UI/UX problems that literally kick me out of the system with no warning and no explanation constantly. I only understand what is happening because I have spoken at length with the developer. Unfortunately, the developer is more focused on rolling out exciting but totally untested new features than getting the features they've got to be stable. I have a very specific desire to roundtrip with FCPX keywords, and despite it's many flaws, this app has the best implementation I can find of that feature. However, until they fix the many problems I have reported, I am on the hunt for an alternative.

Simon Says is a game changer.
I absolutely LOVEEEEE this service. It is so perfect for pre-editing my YouTube captions before I post. I love how you pay for each video individually as opposed to paying for a subscription. That makes me feel like I'm not throwing away money. It saves me so much time, and is so easy to use. I never write reviews but I decided to for Simon Says because I have been so happy with it!!!! :)

Wow. The Time Saving alone here is phenomenal.
I am so happy. This is exactly what I was hoping to find, AND A LOT MORE. Create articles from videos easily. Create transcriptions for your videos - post the video to YouTube and link to your page on your site with full transcription. Voila, all the text from your video is now also helping the SEO of your website. Subtitles, in multiple languages. Anyone seriously producing content for their business (in a They Ask You Answer way) needs to use Simon Says. Game changer for me.
