I was asked to pay $235 for my final bill including their “estimation” (yes, 4 ppl in my unit and each pay $235) and when I ask if they would issue me a refund for the overestimated portion of the bill, they replied: I can certainly understand your concern regarding your final bill. Unfortunately, we are unable to make any changes to your billing and are unable to issue another invoice later when the actual bills arrive and if the bill was underestimated or overestimated as we will no longer be managing the utilities for your property after this invoice.
Absolute scam artists. They will completely overcharge you on each and everyone of your bills and even use “estimations” as part of their billing process. Be prepared to pay over a dollar a day on some bills due to “inclement weather.” They are also no help when you call and only follow a very obvious script. Just a predatory, scammy company that is only out to get as much of your money as possible.
This company is a scam. My bills normally ranged from $60-$70 every month including the dead of winter in Colorado. The estimated bills they gave me for June and July was $207. I requested the actual bill and somehow that ended up on me being charged an extra $75. So a total of $282 for 2 months of utilities split WITH 4 ROOMMATES. My bills at my other apartment with 4 of us total was around $20 a month in the same city with the same roommates.
It’s so irritating that i’m forced to pay a annual $60 fee just to sign up when my apartments are partnered with this scalping company so i have no choice but to. other apartments don’t ask a fee when billing so why are they being so greedy?? I already have to pay for rent and food and bills and the annual fees for my complex. seriously?
I usually pay around $50-60 for my utilities but they’re trying to charge me $170 for a bill an apartment I haven’t been living in for 2 months?? Horrible company. I’m a college student and I don’t have that kind of money since I’m already paying for my apartment, tuition, food, and everything else.
This company will make you pay 2 months worth of “estimated” utilities + the previous months utility bill a month before move-out/renewal and not give you the option to back out of this “estimated” bill.
They will charge you initial $60 for using their free app. They will also charge you additional fees towards the end of your lease because they know people will pay to avoid more fees.
I moved into my apartment about month ago and I had no problems with simple bills at the time. I set up my account and waited for the first bill. I received an email on September 10 that my first bill was due and paid it off immediately. I was shocked that it was an $60 payment to use the app but didn't complain. Today on September 25, I received an email that my payment was declined and I had an $5.50 late payment fee. I called the customer service number and complained that I received an email that my payment was declined 15 days after I submitted my payment. The lady I talked to said there is nothing I can do because it took some time process. She said that my account wasn't able to be found. She wasn't able to take the payment off my account and wasn't any help. It took me 20 minutes to figure out how to fix my account.
I have never written an Apple Store review in my entire life until now. It is absolutely outrageous how much this "service fee" is. Upon receiving my first utility bill, the total ended up being almost $122, with $66 being the actual utility. What’s with the rest of it? The service fee is literally almost the amount of my utility. This is only for a two person apartment by the way. There was no indication of this service fee, and worst of all, my apartment complex reassured their tenants that SimpleBills would be a great option to pay utilities. Anyway, if anyplace uses this application for any payments, please turn away! It is not worth the extra charges.
I live in a 2 person 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment for college. I have been gone for an entire week this month for Thanksgiving, too, and had everything turned off. My lights, my fan, my extension cords, my computer, all OFF. Every second I’m not using my PC, it’s turned off. It’s 12:31 PM and it’s still off right now. I never leave anything on. It’s way colder now than the previous months given that it’s late November. My AC is on COOL and set to AUTO. 73 degrees, hasn't run since the 8th or so. So what’s the issue? First month was $60. Okay. Second was $90. I was a bit careless? Maybe? Probably not, but whatever. This month? $361. I split my utility 50% BTW. So that’s $722 total and it claims it’s because my power usage was up 5x than the months prior. I will be making calls to sort this, but even if they DO fix it, this is unacceptable given the history this app has. 1 star seems generous.
I have already written a review about this company and thought they couldn’t get worse. I moved out and had all my bills paid, I checked with service providers when I shut them off. SimpleBills sent me a gas bill three months after I left for a month that I was not on the lease at my apartment and are trying to charge me late fees. 1 star is too many for a company that charges you for someone else’s bill.
You guys need to see the app itself and I hope that Apple terminates the accounts of those scammers who try to mislead the general public. It works just fine and it runs pretty smoothly.
App seems to work fine but the $5 a month fee is a scam. The fee ends up being 20% of our overall payment and there’s no way to get out of it. On top of that if you pay by card there’s an extra fee for credit not included in the already egregious monthly fee. Avoid using this company at all costs. Work with your landlord and see if you can get billed directly instead.
Worst company to ever exist. Didn’t receive our bills for four months after calling and emailing numerous times. We were told that they’d, “arrive in a few days” every time we’d contact them. That never happened. I just had to pay all four months of my bills in a huge lump sum and they ignored the portion of my email asking for any sort of compensation.
The name simple bills must have been chosen ironically because this company and app are not simple at all. Nothing but a headache and frustration. They make you use their electricity and “link” your other utilities but the other utilities never actually show up on your dashboard, just their electricity and when you try to resolve the issue by calling them they claim it’s your fault and to just pay it. NOT WORTH THE HASSLE OR MONEY
Absolutely terrible! The website is impossible and basically forces you to gather personal data on your roommates FOR THEM just to get access to your bill to pay for $16 of utilities! Absolutely Useless! Do they make you jump through these ridiculous hoops in hopes that you’ll make your payment late so you can be impacted by late fees? Hmmm.
I tried to have simple bills set up in August and they never worked until November. At that point I would just pay my bill straight to the city and I contacted them and they told me they closed my account. Well it turns out they didn’t because they keep contacting me about a bill I’ve already paid through the city. Terrible service.
They will take your money any way they can. My apartment stopped using simple bills and they are still billing us, and I don’t have automatic payments set up but they still just charged my debit card because you have to have a payment method on file. Such a scam. If I could give it 0 stars I would
This app is TRASH !! Turned off auto pay and it kept charging my account way before the bills due date. When I tried to go to the screen to turn it off, it was just a white screen. Customer service is pretty friendly but that’s the only good thing about the service.
They charged $3 to save the bank card online and they don’t let us remove the card unless I input another one. I’ve never seen any website that charge fees to save a bank card detail. I would avoid renting places that use simplebill to pay the electricity in the future because it’s a scam
This app charges $5 a month and it’s conveniently billing me months after I moved out of the apartment I used it with. At the time of writing it is October 27th. I received a bill from June and haven’t been living in that apartment since early August. Even worse- their customer service isn’t helpful at all.
I lived in a duplex for college which was a 3bed 3bath and my utilities were around $45-$55 before getting simple bills. After signing up and linking my bills the price for my utilities went up to $70-$90 despite the usage being the same. DO NOT sign up with simple bills they price gouge too much
If I could give this app zero star I would do it. The charge you so high for utility bills and they have all this extra charges for no reason. If you’re looking for an apartment and they use simple bills please don’t live there because they will scam you
They charges a service fee for managing utilities, but it is too expensive. My electricity cost was $39 and simplepay added $18 for only service fee. Moreover, the credit or debit card store fee is $3 per month, ridiculous
They email constantly. The bill is due in 25 days and they hound you for the money every 5 days. This company is used by my daughters college apartment so she is harassed also. I know how to pay my bill your company is awful and annoying.
Simplebills is horrible. Constantly overcharging us and taking out our money when we got permission from the property manager to wait. Simplebills, shame on you and whoever thought simplebills was a good idea. What an absolute joke.
Subpar company, does not communicate effectively. Will also try to tell you when you’re moving out instead of letting you tell them. And for some reason, they still charge a high service fee.
Every person I know who lives in my apartment complex complains about the insanely high utility bills. Some even coming out to well over $200 per person for just electricity. Absolutely horrendous. Definitely a scam.
A four person bed room dose not use 200+ bucks of electricity per month. Random inconsistent amounts and a 20 trash fee. It seems like the app had a 4/5 star review because they had apple remove the true reviews.
I live in a 3 bed 3 bath apartment, the first month my bill was $37 with taxes and fees, and despite keeping the electricity usage the same the following months the bill is ~$80. There’s no option to get out and the blatant gauging is genuinely terrible.
They’ll take money out of your account for no reason, it feels like I’m always emailing them with issues and over-charges. I have 3 roommates and sometimes they don’t even divide the bills equally. Not worth the hassle.
Tried the website, horrible. Can’t view the bill until a payment method is entered. Tried with this app. Not only can’t view first, it really drives set up of autopay.
I’ve had this stupid app and I can say this for sure, don’t waste your time using this company. At this point, this company is just a scam. I was being up charged for utilities for 10 months and was trying to o figure it out. I even told me landlord and they contacted this company and was told that the company has no clue. Well I finally called and told them that it is beyond my mind that they are charging me 200 DOLLARS FOR A MONTH! They said they were charging me and my Roomate the same, but I corrected them and told them I have 3 roommates in total.THEY WERE CHARGING ME FOR 2 OTHER PEOPLE FOR 10 MONTHS! When I requested a refund the person stated she could not give me a refund and then claimed they will give me credits. When I calculated it, that means at least around $350. Well now it’s July and I have moved away from my place. They HAVE STILL BEEN CHARGING ME SINCED I MOVED! OH and the best part, the credits they gave me was just $90! I hope this company goes bankrupt because definitely I will see them in court.
I don’t know what’s wrong with this company but it’s horrible. The bill is always incorrect, the wifi never ever works, the code to my door never connects, etc. When I call I’ll be on hold for an hour. I’m so over simplebills.
SimpleBills was created in 2008 when two roommates couldn’t stop arguing over their utility bill. One guy would always end up paying the bill, while the other took forever to reimburse him. After figuring there had to be an easier way to manage utilities, they created a complete utility management company that handles communication with utility providers and keeps all utilities in one place. (Have roommates? Pay only your portion!) The purpose of the SimpleBills for Residents app is to further enhance your experience by making access to information and payments even more convenient. With the app, you can check your personal utility usage and costs at any time and even pay your bill on-the-go. The SimpleBills for Residents app lets you: · Pay your utility bill · Manage your methods of payment · Check month-over-month variances in utility usage and costs · See records of past bills · See the costs of electricity vs. water · Accumulate good credit for paying your bill on time · Contact our Help Center directly with any questions
