This timer app suits most of my needs, and for free no less. Three additional features would be a 5 star upgrade. First, a preference option to have the window float on top of all open windows would be very helpful. Maybe as a keyboard toggle to bring to top for quick reference? Second, the ability to use colors would make finding the window easier in some situations. Lastly, an "analog" clockface displaying system time, again as a chooseable or as a toggle-able preference with color options. I would pay several dollars for this versatile combo.
This app earned a permanent spot on my menu bar. I often leave it open and it reminds me that there's probably a 5 minute sprint to break me out of my stalling and procrastination. Also perfect when teaching online and needing to remind students (and myself) of the time remaining for a breakout task. Could I ask if you could allow us to restart and stop the timer with a click or double click on the entire time windw, instead of just with the small icons in the corner? Perhaps stop and start with a click on the numbers, and a reset to previous settings with a double click. I know that I can currently click and press space to start, and type the time and enter to reset the timer.
Great app to quickly set a count down. It suits my needs and it's free! Smart enough to read different time entries. A feature suggestion would be an option to toggle and show the local time for when the timer will run out. Like if it's currently 12 PM and the timer has 45 minutes on it then it will show ending time as 12:45 PM. Another feature would be to save a common countdown event for recurring use or save multiple long term upcomming events with a title and description. Otherwise the app is functioning well and I highly suggest this app if anyone is looking for a countdown timer app.
This is going to help me a lot with focus if I can figure out a couple of things. First, I would like a floating clock window. Second, the clock window is now appearing in multiple monitor spaces, but if I close any of them, all of them close. I'm not sure why this started happening the morning after install, but I can't find any relevant setting. Unfortunately now I'm here writing this review instead of doing my work. So, hopefully there is some easy, obvious solution to both of these. Thanks for your work making this app!
I love this app, it easily gets 4 stars from me. The only problem I have with it is the lack of shortcuts integration. I would love the ability to pass it a time from a shortcut and it start the count down, or to set it to start counting down to the end of my next meeting after the current one finishes. All of these would be possible with some added shortcuts integration. As it is the app does a fantastic job, and is more than adequate to do the task needed. Shortcuts support would make it perfect.
I do a lot of appointments and meetings, but between them, I need to make use of highly focused intervals of work where it's easy to lose track of time. As someone with ADHD, focus isn't easy - so I don't like having to constantly keep an eye on the time and have that distract me from flow, once I finally achieve it. This fits the bill perfectly. Sits nicely in the menu bar or on top of my other windows. Typing in times in natural language (e.g., "1:45PM") and having it do the math is the cherry on top. This app shouldn't be free. :)
When you activate via Alt+Tab, it should get keyboard focus so you can type a new time, press Enter and start immediately. You shouldn’t have to hover over the app window to gain focus. This is an app you want to interact with for less than a second, you don’t want to spend several seconds finding the mouse/trackpad and hover over the window, which is already active because that’s what Alt+Tab was for!!! To add insult to injury, if you start typing and mistakenly hover OUT of the window (your hand accidentally touches the trackpad), it loses focus and your laptop starts beeping when you type. Then you have to take a hand off the keyboard, find the mouse pointer and hover back in, then return to typing. It is spectacularly stupid.
This app is great as a timer and does the trick, but I also wish there was a stopwatch function (in fact, I downloaded it thinking it could do both). I hate that I'll have to now use a stopwatch in another browser window (without clear visibility in my screen where I'm working) or download a whole other app just to do something as simple as the reverse of what this app already does so well. Please consider adding this functionality
I think it's a great app. Pretty straightforward. However, I'd like to see the ability to acutally save the event I'm usiing the timer for. I use it to set an event many months into the future and whenever I do a restart of the computer, I then have to re-enter that information. Even better would be to set a specific date and time (including time zone) for a future event. I use a different timer on my iPhone (they don't make a Mac OS version) to figure out the hours, minutes, etc until the event I'm counting down to.
Works great! My only requests would be a way to cancel once the timer starts. I suppose you could quit and restart but a cancel button would be best. And as others have requested, the ability to set a time limit for the alarm sound would be a great improvement, so it doesn’t continue beeping forever, Otherwise love it!
This app is basic, clean, and easy to use. A minor, but in my case, helpful feature is missing though. Instead of a flashing 0:00 when the timer ends, I would love a setting where it would start to count up in time, maybe in red. This would allow a speaker to see how far they have went over instesd of just knowing their time is up.
This app has been super helpful for my productivity. I love how simple it is to use and the clean, minimal appearance, especially since I'm easily distracted. My only wish is that there was an option to remove the seconds, especially for longer countdowns (e.g. 1 hour ) because I find the seconds to be really distracting. It's still fantastic though, especially for a free app! So glad I found it.
I never leave reviews, but it occurred to me to leave this one, because it's a great app! No bells and whistles, just exaclty what you need out of a timer. Simple interface, easy to pause, reset, and even lock so oyu don't accidnetally click something. There are also intutive keyboard commands (spacebar for pause and start), that jsut make sense without any need for instructions. Also FREE WITH NO IN APP PURCHASES! 5 stars.
The Smart Countdown Timer is exactly what I had been searching for. It is easy and efficient. I love it and have already recommended it to friends. I use it on a daily basis and it is simple to use. I believe the negative comments are due to the user not fully understanding how to work the program. It is simple and straight forward. Please keep up the great work. I may now even try some of your other programs.
When I work, I dig into the process. Time flies. I need reminders to break from tasks to either get the kids, or start dinner, or some other appointment. Sure, I could load up my calendar, but this is a quick flick App that is easier to reach than unlocking my phone and setting the timer there. I like that it is small, doesn’t consume screen real estate. 27m = 27 minutes and away we go. Thanks!
I've been using a kitchen timer. This little timer app is a perfect replacement. It sits at the top right edge of the screen. I key in the time to count down, and there it goes. When countdown is completed, an alert sounds off. With my kitchen timer, I have to replace the battery now and then. If the timers goes off and I am not around, the alarm keeps on going and drains battery. I have tried quite a few timer apps, they all tend to have more features than I need, therefore unnecessarily complicated. This little timer is simple to use, sitting unobstructively on the screen and quietly does its job without fail. No charging or battery hassles. The best part is, it's FREE!
As an adult with ADHD and OCD, I typically turn a simple task like typing a 15 minute memo into an hour long job. Diistractions are also always a problem and a countdown timer helps me maintain my focus on getting one specific task done, while it also helps curb my tendency to rewrite everything over and over!! I’m finding this app really helpful. I tried other timers but I like this one best. It’s a good app. I’ll keep using it. Thanks!
Works great! An excellent, simple timer that does just what I need... run countdowns such as daily scrum timers. No clutter or other things getting in the way. My only little complaint: I wish the menu bar icon was dark - it's white, which is probably fine if you use dark mode all the time. I don't. But that's a trivial little issue.
I love that the window can be reduced down very small. Such a basic thing but so many other similar apps don't. And being able to choose light or dark, as well as using a picture behind the clock is a nice feature. Only thing I wish was different is for it to have a stopwatch feature.
This is an excellent utility. I needed to give a webinar using a PowerPoint and be able to time the debate segments for different speakers and show on the screen how much time they had left. I tried several utilities and none had the feature of stay on top of whatever other apps were running. It is really easy to use and worked perfectly
I like the look and feel of it with the crisp font that scales nicely and it's super simple interface. I use it for 30 minute work blocks to keep me focused on one thing at a time. And it is nice to see it in the menu bar so it doesn't have to stay in the foreground while you are working. The only feature I would like is to set a time limit for how long the alarm beeps for. Sometimes I walk away from my machine, and it is annoying to have an alarm that never stops beeping until you click on it. For a totally free app that has no ads and no in app purchasing, it is pretty great compared to the alternatives.
This app does exactly what it's supposed to and works well. I do wish that there was an option to start a timer when a countdown finishes for those times when you ignore the countdown and want to know how much you went over by. But otherwise this app is perfect
This app doesn't remember where it is. If I position the app to a certain part of my secondary screen when I have two monitors running, and my computer goes to sleep, the Smart Countdown Timer will always default to the upper right hand corner of the main screen. Every time. So I then have to drag the program back to where I want it. Every time. Why can't the app just stay where I put it, and then remeber that position when my computer goes to sleep and wakes?
Takes up less space than my hourglass. ;-) Would be nice if the alarm could silence after a while (e.g., 10 minutes). Sometimes I have to leave the computer and forget to turn off the alarm.
I like this timer! It’s easy to type in the time you want to set it for. No fiddling with pseudo analog dials and such. Just type in the time “33 minutes” for the washer. Click on the arrow in the top right-hand corner and it starts. I also like the menubar display of the running time. This timer is the best I’ve found. Thank you, FIP LAB.
I would have given this app 5 stars (and still will if this problem can be remedied), but the Mac Menu Bar icon is always white and there is no apparent option to have it be black or fluctuate between a black and white depending on the Menu Bar background. Is this customizable or is it permanently a white Menu Bar icon in a long row of black icons most of the time?
Sometimes I use the 1m 45s timer for completing reviews of exam questions, and it gets very repetitive to have to reset it 200 times in a day. Other than that it is fantastic, but definitely would appreciate a loop function. Other timers ahve this, but their minimum time slot is 2 minutes or 1 minute increments. This one is nice bc it has any time increment upt o the second interval.
Intuitive, easy to use, unobtrusive, resizeable, awesome all the way. I'll add my one wish, that it have a tickbox for Always On Top. didn’t always sound off if the display (not computer) sleeps when countdown ended
even with the preference to notify the end of the timed period even when asleep, it does not do so. So no matter how nice the rest of the app is, it is rendered ineffective if the time is set for anything past the display sleep time. Too bad, an otherwise neat itte app. edit: I tried this again and it did sound off after the display went to sleep…..so…..?
This is exactly the type of app I was looking for. There are so many that claim they do this but this one is by far the cleanest and easiest to use. If we could create multiple alarms for specific times/days, that would make this 6 stars!
Great and useful. However, it could use couple features
Thanks to developers for such a nice and simple app for free. It’s great for presentations beacuse one can toggle to stay on top on the second screen. It’s also not distracting by blinking colons like some others. Wish this app had an option to toggle between counting down and counting up. Another great option would be to even continue even when the time is up (by possibly changing color of the numbers, for instance, to red in the dark mode). This feature would be very useful for presentations, which do not end always on time.
I needed a timer for online teaching so that students could easily see how much time we had for tasks (lots of tasks per class). I wanted something that would float on top of my presentation materials when I was full screen, but this one won't do that. On the other hand, an easy workaround is to enlarge my working window to *almost* full screen, and then this works fine. As others have said, I'd pay for some color options and for it to float on a full screen, and maybe some different timer faces, but for free, this is pretty darn good. Thanks, Devs!
Overall excellent app. I'd love it if you could make it so that the notifications themselves time out (in case I'm away from my desk.) e.g., Once, 10x, Endless as an option. Also sometimes I find I have to enter what I want twice - the first time doesn't "take". No idea why.

Works perfectly. Some practical features as well as a few bells and whistles. I like choosing my alarm sound and adding a background picture & I also like the opacity feature and theme chioces. It it easy to hide the app while I am working. Use this app everyday.
The App does exactly what it is suppossed to be. The additional fetures are nice such as dark/light themes, opacity control, you can even add custom image behind the time ticking down. Things that could be added: 1. Some more notification sounds, sth soothing and cool to finish your meditation for example, or just the ability to choose a song for when you finish a work-out session. 2. Please make it so that after writing the desired time, pressing ENTER will start the timer. Having to navigate a cursor to that small play button is painstaking. Thank You!
Clean, minimal, and holy crap is it easy to use. I love being able to add time naturally, start timers with text, etc. I don't break my flow when adding/tracking time especially for clients. This is a critical part of my workflow. Thank you so much for making it.
The Smart Countdown Timer is exactly what I had been searching for in a countdown timer. It is SUPER easy to use, it doesn't take up a lot of screen real estate and it supports full screen mode. I've added it to my daily workflow to stay on track with time.
This app does exactly what it says. It's easy to use and I love that I can see the time in the bar on the top of my screen so that even when I am in other programs I don't need to get out of them to see the time left.
I had a different timer I barely used because when the countdown finished, there was only a little beep and I kept missing the notification. This is great.
Two stars for timer and icon. Three star deduction for invasive nature of the app. Opens when not prompted to do so (especially at LogIn even tho its not on Login permitted apps!), and hangs onto Dock with no way to remove it (no way to Undock; if Quit app, it'll go away, but next time it starts itself, there it is again). I've been using MacOS since Yosemite, I have not seen an app this "grabby" previously.
Great little countdown timer. I'm in my 80s and doctor says not to sit all day at the computer, to get up and move around. This reminder makes is easier for me to do so. Easy to set and use. Try it!
Is it possible to have multiple countowns in a series like "5m,5m,40m" so it would sound the notifications in 5 minutes, 5 minutes, 45 minutes intervals.
Very good size screen and simple to use. It would be improved if 1. the timer had a negative number count after you reach zero. 2. It had to option of counting up. 3. It incorporated a warning or flashed at a preset time - user specific to alert the user.
This is the first timer I've ever used and probably the last. It's great. It's simple and straight to the point. My fave aspect is that it stay on top of all other windows.
Just Small imporvment required, at pc shutdown time whatever time was remaining in coutdown should be set on new starting of pc instead of resetting initial inputed time.
