A few ideas
This a great game absolutely fun to play but there a few ideas that would make better and funnier. I think it would be a good idea if you had the option to shuffle characters when choosing your party because I always find myself choosing characters I don’t want and having to exit out come back all over over again it can get annoying that’s why I think it would be a good idea if we had the option to shuffle the characters. Also I could see duck hunting in this game as well dlc’s like the California trail and Mormon Trail. Another idea that would be very useful is when your character leaves to go get help but then the other character dies and you get to continue your it would be helpful if that character came back and continued the journey. I would like to see multiplayer added into this game I know that doesn’t seem like a thing would include but what if you could travel in groups instead of four people it would make the more exciting and fun if you were able to play with friends online. Another thing would to have a bigger party of six or five I think having more people would have better chances of getting to Oregon but it make harder because having to take care of more people and spending more money. One last thing you guys should make an ASMR mode just traveling and listening to calming sounds of nature.

I love this game- a few suggestions
This is the highest quality game I have ever played, and it is super fun. However, I have a bunch of ideas that would make it even better. To start, it would be nice if the wagon accidents and broken limbs were more moderated, because an issue I have is that the second I leave a fort, something bad happens to my party. Also, many of my characters will get a broken limb as soon as I restore their health again and heal them. I find this to be very frustrating, and would appreciate if there was some sort of algorithm you could install to fix this issue. Second, it would be really cool if children and pets could be included. By pets, I mean a dog or farm animal, and in some special journeys when you are able to use a horse, I would like to have that option for the main journeys like Oregon and California Trails. As for children, when you get to select your characters, it would be cool if you could choose children to join your group. The kids could have only one trait and no skills, and the limit per group could be two or three, but I think it would be a lot more realistic and fun to have more of a family element to the game. Also, other main journeys like the Mormon Trail would be really fun to complete. Overall, this is an awesome game and I hope yall read this.

😍 One of the best games ever! And a few ideas
Hi Developers! You must be the best game designers of all time! Because this is one of the best games of all time! 😍 This is a super super fun game. It has choices you can make and you choose your party members and when they die you can make Them a grave stone! I even have a favorite character! 😎 I totally LOVE this game and I give infinity stars to it! You don’t even have to use real money for anything! It’s a challenging fun game. I play this game every day for a loooong time (Not kidding or exaggerating) OK, Now some ideas: Since you can see trail weddings (and Ava’s and Douglas’s wedding) (and random ones too) I think you should be able to have one girl and one boy from your party get married! And then give birth to a baby! And the longer you travel the baby is growing up while your traveling! And turning into a kid! (Maybe even a grown up after they turn into a kid) And then in the character selection you can pick already kids or already babies 👶🏻! 😃 These ideas were inspired by the thing you can put on the gravestone that says Our Only Child, (Then it puts the person’s name obviously) But if there are no children or babies how can I use that ?! Bye best game developers ever! P.s. call me Doggie *Doggie 🐶

Nature Trail Journey
I keep seeing the Devs suggest this “relaxing” play mode to players criticizing how hard the game is in regular mode. However; I have played the Nature Trail Journey twice now and I have gotten wiped out on the first river both times! I don’t know how this is supposed to be “easier”, when I was able to beat the regular mode with 3 of my party members still with me when I got to Oregon City on my first go? I think if you are going to offer an easy mode, it really should be much more easy than the regular mode. Maybe give every river a ferry option and make money more easy to come by? I bought the most expensive wagon on the Nature Trail Journey, whereas I had the mid-range wagon on my original game in regular mode, and I could not see any significant difference in the resistance to wear and tear on the more expensive one. Maybe you could make the wagon status bar read more like the health, stamina, etc... bars for the characters? I would also like the benefit of using wheel grease to be more clear. For example, if it was more like the bars for everything else in the game, the grease could restore 2 or 3 segments in the bar - and a fuller bar would significantly decrease the likelihood of a breakdown? This game is so pretty, fun, and has got me hooked so far - but I can see what the other commenters are talking about, and I can tell that I’ll lose interest in the game pretty soon if I keep running into these inconsistencies.

Fun but unrealistic
I really enjoy the game!! I even enjoy the challenges that come along the way! The problem is, it seems that every move i make leads to an inescapable casualty. I can understand that the game is supposed to emulate what the people who traveled the Oregon trail went through, but the amount of injuries and wagon break downs is just unnecessary. I wouldn't mind it if there were a strategic way to avoid it but there isn't. Even when it comes to the wagon breaking down iver time grease hardly does anything. In fact, during one of my play throughs i used grease and literally not even a moment later my wagon broke down. Also, when i traverse rivers the odds are never in my favor. Several times ive had a 70% or higher chance of getting across and out all those times the only time i did was when i had close to 100%. Thats just unreasonable!!! I really enjoy this game, but the difficulty being astronomical just makes it not fun to play. Like i said adding strategic elements to make things less likely to go bad (stretching to prevent exhaustion, checking the wagon to prevent food from going moldy and snakes from biting ur ppl, literally ANYTHING to prevent disentery, better wagon grease to stave off wagon malfunctions, etc.) would make it being so difficult not so much of a drawback cause there'd be ways to combat it!

Great Game, Fun Timewaster
This game is one of the most fun games I've played in a while. I had rather low standards for this game, because I have played other versions of this game and didn't really like them. When I decided to give this game a shot, I instantly fell in love. I have already put 6 hours into this game, and here is my review. This game is great, it captures the aspects of so many things perfectly. It makes it seem like you are in the game, walking along with your party. It keeps hunting in the style of the old games, but fixes it up a lot and makes it way more balanced. I love the way that you can trade with other people at landmarks. This game took most aspects from the original, and refined them, and added more. This game captures how difficult, long and grueling the oregon trail actually was. Whether it's drinking nasty water and getting sick, having low heigine, getting exauhsted, or litterally getting so bored that you storm off, it captures it all perfectly. There are snakebites and mites, biting at you constantly. You have to save up medicine, meat, and more just so that your party members don't get sick, or lose health. Yes, it does take a long time to beat, and it is pretty difficult, but other than that, it s a great game.

Well done Gameloft
The Oregon Trail, the iconic computer game from the MECC many of us grew up playing in school and libraries is reimagined in yet another way. This one is an absolute delight which in my mind is high praise considering I am not a huge gameloft fan. But wow! You guys really did pour a lot of heart and soul into this game beyond just the sound and visuals (which are perfect, by the way). It reminds me of the firaxis remake of xcom enemy within in terms of quality. There’s a bit of randomness here to keep you on your toes and add replay value (as I recall it was there in the older versions of Oregon Trail) including the threat of dysentery, success fording the river/caulking the wagon, encounters Etc. Even hunting is made like it was “back then” ala tank controls, which I actually like. It could use some improvements perhaps, making trapping/hunting/fishing more lucrative beyond just pelts/fish to sell or trade but it might be nitpicking. I still can’t think of anyone doing any better here except maybe firaxis? Overall I have to say I am quite pleased and I bet Apple is too. Download this and Sneaky Sasquatch and you have serious competition (in terms of gameplay quality) to any other systems’ exclusives.

Not as much fun as I thought!
I keep getting challenges to collect meat with zero chances given to do so. I keep getting challenges to collect 3 berries with only one bush. No matter what player I pick, I waste bait on things I can't do anything with. My wagon breaks down more often then it makes sense. Who actually packs 10 tool boxes and or other repair stuff. Why are they all work only 1? Same with the food. Meat... crackers... berries doesn't matter it's all worth only 1. Why have so much different stuff off it's technically all the same? It gives me options the game refuses leaving me only "wait" as an option!? What's that about?? You need water! Here's water! Oh wait cholera! Why give Traps.. then not be able to use them. Oh wait! The game uses them for you and they did nothing at all???? It spends more time setting up the issues then providing solutions! 8hrs in going slow and eating a lot all clean and rested but because I have no harmonicas!? My entire group is forlorn!? Not my fault you only provided 2! Can't buy them or make them? Just ten to 1 issues over solutions!! Lame!!!! It gets EVEN WORSE!! I just used stat items to increase one of my characters. And immediately the game makes me get rid of her. Yes.... made me. No option at all to keep her. Really?? Who is playing this game??

Fun at the start.. but a bit unrealistic
I have been thinking of getting this app and I’ve been playing it for 2 days, it was exciting at first, but I’ve realized that it is unrealistic. For starters, as soon as 1 person gets cured of something like dysentery they get a broken arm or something like that. It’s getting frustrating, maybe next update something can happen every 5-15 minutes? Also I have a saved game where I’m at the U.S soldier and Native American are fighting about a toll and I have 1 person in my party and I can’t move on because I can’t side with either.. I’m also having trouble loading saved games. Also a suggestion, maybe add more options to put on the tertiary options for gravestones? Also I’ve seen this a lot but could you add children or have the option to take the hound you see later in the game? Also another suggestion I’ve seen in another review is if you could add just a sightseeing mode? This game has tons of potential and could be more enjoyable if you could be able to avoid diseases. Also, the wagon breaks down a little too often, maybe reduce it a bit? I’d love to see some of this added and it would be great to get more people playing this! Thank you! -Ella the Jungle Cat

A Few Observations from an Old Player
I played Oregon Trail on Apple 2s in computer lab in 6th grade back in 1985. This game is supposed to be hard. You might lose, your party might die, bad things happen — you try again a different way. You might do everything right and still have a freak accident. That’s the Oregon trail, and also life. It doesn’t need to be made any easier, otherwise it’d be dull. As far as the PC elements, it’s fine. This game isn't supposed to get into the weeds with all that. All Native Americans weren’t utterly benign on the real Oregon trail, but some were indeed extremely generous with their time and help. Just like everything bad that’s ever happened isn’t just the fault of white people. But the safe route is the best route when making a game where your focus isn’t on the subtleties of who did what when. I love this game. I love the randomness of never knowing who you’re going to end up with in your party. It’s my favorite for long road trips — makes the time fly. I have a deep love for the land of the US and have travelled across it many times, and this game is a carefully crafted love letter to the (still) untamed beauty of the West.

Good game, for awhile
I really enjoyed this game the first few times I played, but there were some features from the version I grew up with (version 3 I think) that I really miss. The first was a more educational and interactive “gather” option. It used to be you had to look up the plants in the guidebook and determine if they were safe to eat, which I thought was really cool. I’ll always be able to identify nightshade haha. It was fascinating and made gathering much more interesting. The second option I miss was being able to pick your departing date from Independence. This game it’s very easy to make it to Oregon by winter even though you leave in May. The version I grew up with this was not the case, and sometimes it made more sense to leave really early and cross the first river or two when it was frozen to avoid getting stuck in the mountains in September. Mostly, after a few rounds, the game just became too easy. The quests don’t change. It’s not that you get “Star Crossed Lovers” one time and “Peppard’s Folly” the next, you get them all every time. It makes it too predictable. More and varied quests would make the game much more fun over the long term, as well as the ability to choose a much harder level.

Fantastic version of the game
This is a great updated version of the game. I have two complaints/suggestions. First, I wish we could run the entire California Trail instead of being forced to start the journey midway at Fort Hall. There doesn’t seem to be any reason not to let us start at Independence. You could even make it so no mining opportunities are available for the first half of the trip in order to avoid creating any balance issues with accumulating extra gold. Second suggestion/complaint is with the quality of characters offered. With three characters to choose from on each of four screens, and two traits for each character, it is not in any way unusual to see 5/6 traits on any one character page be negative. I don’t want to run journeys with four characters who are frail and slack. I’m just going to keep restarting until O get some decent trait options. There are several things you could do to fix this. Either decrease the rate of negative traits, or at least allow those who have completed a journey to have the option of making custom characters or avoid overt negative character sections.

It’s not “too difficult” It’s fun
The original Oregon Trail was meant to be an educational game, and so is this update. It’s not fast paced, it’s not loud, it’s not a button smash. A lot of the reviews on here are saying the game is too difficult. Maybe I played a the wrong mode, I made it to Oregon on my first attempt. Granted Gideon died from crushed leg, Hannah died of exhaustion, Benjamin got mauled by a bear and succumbed to his injuries. But Patty made it through Triumphantly. It sounds silly but I got attached to my little intrepid travelers and even though they irritated me at first, but the end I was invested in their journey. My favorites changed, I got mad at them, i even told them to “go ahead and die” a few times. But in the end, my least favorite became my hero, she persevered, hunted, fixed her wagon and at one point about 40 miles from the end, with her wagon hopelessly damaged low on food and injured, she waited to die. But she did finally succeed and I’m glad I was there too. It’s a fun game inspired by a simpler time in gaming. They could have done anything, but they did this. They stuck to the original concept just as all remakes should.

Was fun for a sec…
I LOVED this game as a kid. I loved learning the history and imagining I was there with my crew. The graphics are quite beautiful, yet the gameplay is a little annoying and painfully slow at parts. Lots of clicking to proceed again and again…and again. Yet the biggest clincher for me is it is NOT RELAXING TO PLAY. Firstly, you don’t have full freedom to pick your team. No families in this game guys. A bit generic and unrealistic. But the people you can choose, their “skills” are hidden until you pick them for a task (ie hunting) and then it’s revealed how (usually) bad they are at hunting. Frustrating. Secondly, you have to hunt for pelts to gain money, and hunting is not a fun “duck hunt” experience, it’s difficult. And you can’t trade any other goods for money, and you can’t just be a trapper, why? And why does the knife dull after 2-3 uses? Can’t it be sharpened? Also the wagon breaks excessively, the oil is useless, and the wheels and tongues and axles are way too expensive and bulky and can only be used once, whereas the toolboxes are cheap and small and have 3 uses per parcel. This is just nonsense math. And crossing a 2ft River should never result in an accident, yet it does, often. So basically I’ve had my stress adrenaline zapped for 5 days playing this game. Deleted it this morning. I am bummed my fave childhood game is not the same as it was and thus, not for me anymore. Moving on sadly.

Simple, Fun, and Beautiful!
An absolutely extraordinary masterpiece! This game is easy to get into and engaging, always having something new to see or find. The different journeys and unlocks in this game give you fun little stories to follow along after beating the main game. But once completing them you also unlock new things to use in the main story which gives you a reason to seek out and play the other stories. This game has one of the most beautiful mobile graphics for a pixel game I’ve seen. Combines pixel art with some 3D models and absolutely amazing lighting to really set the mood and is a huge upgrade compared to the older Oregon trial games. The only thing I wish could be changed is the fact that this game is only for mobile and only on Apple Arcade. I can easily see myself and others playing this game on a PC or switch. I hope that this game expands beyond Apple Arcade, it would help give the game change to grow even more and expand its player base! Hopefully in the future I can buy this game on the Apple store instead of having to pay for a subscription!

Needs Improvement
I’ve played almost 20 hours now, and it’s pretty repetitive and a bit irritating. There is so much potential for this game, but it looks like the developers only cared about graphics and design. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a beautiful game with a fresh take on the classic Oregan Trail, but it lacks so much gameplay. The same few scenarios play out a hundred times through the journey, and even if you’ve used grease on your wagon 10 seconds ago, you’ll likely still breakdown. Crossing a River with 75% chance of success? You won’t make it. Need coffee? That’s going to be 18 herbal remedies. Then you have some random characters whose traits you don’t really know yet, and it really doesn’t matter all that much. I can have someone with a level 6 shooting skill, but it makes no difference if I use the character with 1 level shooting skill. I’m not saying it’s a terrible game, but it definitely needs more content to it. Another example is that if I get an item that I don’t think is going to be as useful to me, such as a harmonica or wayfinding book, why can’t I sell it? The only items I can actually sell are the pelts. Anything else is just for trade and I’ve never been able to trade the books or harmonicas.

LOVE this game!!
Since I’ve just seen a couple more negative reviews for this app, I want to say that I think it’s amazing — you guys crushed it!! It combines the nostalgia and enjoyable intrigue of the original Oregon Trail game (which I grew up playing and was obsessed with lol) with a more involved, engaging, and exciting gameplay, which I LOVE, and the graphics are wonderful as well. Further, there are no little money grabs or ads or purchaseables (as far as I can tell) to sully the app and spoil the experience for people who can’t or don’t want to pay, which I think is especially refreshing and makes the gameplay feel much more genuine and authentic. The result is a game that I can’t resist playing for hours on end, way more I should be when it’s currently my finals week. I really hope that the developers continue to add new side quests/unlockables and maybe an extended or additional full-length trail mission comparable to the main “Oregon Trail” one; either way, I think this is a great app and I’d like to encourage the developers to keep it up:)

Oregon Trail LE (Liberal Edition)
Oregon Trail gone “woke” and that’s enough to put anyone off. I remember playing the original game on my computer as a kid. Growing up and learning more about it, I wasn’t ignorant of the plight of Native Americans and how the trail affected them and vice versa. I give it 3 stars because I get what they are trying to accomplish here and it is a interesting new take on the classic game…but I think the developers forgot that it was just a game. A game that they ended up taking to seriously and giving it a liberal make over and excluding people while trying to be “inclusive” while the aim was to be more “accurate” and provide Native American representation the game still had inaccuracies if they want to be 100% true by the book and be factually and historically correct. I downloaded this game thinking it was a modern paint job on the classic vs booting up my Windows XP and staring at the green screen 😂. Overall it’s not a horrible take and interesting to play but I think I’ll stick with the original classic. I do however recommend that if you haven’t played this, it’s worth playing through at least once. My only issue is the “woke” aspect as it’s off putting.

Annoyingly difficult and frustrating at times
Hear me out! I loved the game as a younger kid back in the day and this game is the reason I purchased apple arcade. Starting out the game is fun and has definitely a more complex and updated take from the original. However, I believe that some of the elements are almost taking away from the game, rather than doing it justice. For example, even when picking your crew, you get locked in with your choices and have no way of going back and changing your crew. Your crew decisions are a major part of the game and a lot of the time, who you pick to partake in certain challenges can greatly affect the gameplay and your success. Btw, I swear no matter how many times you try and help your crew with their skills, they almost are always failing. Their composure, hygiene, stamina decreases so frequently it’s almost impossible to actually prepare, especially as your wagon is literally constantly wearing down and breaking (it’s literally every freaking other moment). I could go on, but basically every step of the game is basically statistically screwed and you always lose, so take that as you may.

Pretty fun
This game was really fun to play, and I was fully immersed in all the journeys that the game had to offer. The hunting and rafting mini games are fun and rewarding as well. However, I have a couple criticisms about the game and it’s design. Firstly is the Winter. While Winter may not pose a threat to most players, it did during my play through of Oregon or Bust. I just braved the Colombian River, and was 60 miles from Oregon, and winter had only one day left. I wasn’t worried because I thought that winter would simply drain health over a period of time, which I was prepared for. However, once winter hit, my party instantly died and the expedition was concluded. I wish that instead of insta-death, winter would make travel difficult but possible. Secondly is when it comes to choosing a path during a journey; I believe there was too little of this. Options such as rafting down the Columbian river presented the option for saving in time and resources, with a difficulty to match it. Things like this would be appreciated. That’s it, good game!

Fun and challenging, however
***spoilers ahead*** The new update is much appreciated and I love how fishing is now part of the game. And though racists love to out themselves by complaining about this, I appreciate the perspective of Natives. Revisionist history is the kumbaya we’re taught in school, not the reality written from actual Natives, Kyle. Anyway. My complaint (and the spoilers start here) is that there is no way to save Little Mary. I understand it represents a reality of how difficult life on the trail could be but it’s a little too much of a shock through the heart. I wish there were some choice you could make to save her. Having a 4 year old you’ve met, talked to, engaged with, and gotten to know die instead of seeing her next birthday is a bit too much and it makes me not want to replay knowing that I’ll be faced with that prospect again. Also might be triggering for people who have experienced loss of a child, as it certainly wasn’t a phenomenon unique only to that time period.

A Great Update to an Old Favorite
I remember playing this game in elementary school on an Apple IIe, which ages me a lot. It was a reward to play it in the computer lab at the time, and it was fun to play. You knew going in that your characters were probably going to die, but it was still really fun. This game is very much the same. I ended up playing it for hours just to get my characters to Oregon, and that took multiple tries. It’s very addictive and still a lot of fun. I tried the KaBoom mission, but failed both times. Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of time to devote to the addiction this games causes to play it hours on end, so I haven’t had the chance to master that mission yet. I look forward to playing the other missions, especially the Native American one. When I first downloaded the game, I was shocked at the low rating, then I read the most critical reviews and figured it out. If you think being honest about what really happened and treating people with respect is being “woke” then you’re the snowflake. Please don’t let the low rating discourage you. The game is fun and once you figure out the game play, you have a higher chance of surviving/making it to your destination. Yes, some of the stuff is repetitive, like the stupid snakes. What’s the deal with the stupid snakes and people not using a stick to check the wagon or bush!?! Once you get bit the first time, you’d start doing that. 😱🤦🏻‍♀️

Simply not fun
I tried out this game, it is a remake of the classic Oregon Trail game where you guide a party of settlers from MO to OR in 1848. I have a lot of experience with Oregon Trail 2 so compared it to that. The game seems to have made changes to be more realistic, but this makes the game too difficult and not fun. For example crossing the river usually fails, even if I choose the appropriate choice given the depth. You are supposed to seal the wagon with animal skins bit they are very hard to obtain. Money and supplies are very limited, you never have enough of what you need , and trying to trade is ridiculously expensive. Moreover, you have to micromanage your party’s stats and medical conditions which is tedious and unsatisfying. You don’t know your party members’ skills and discover this during the game, but having the info upfront would be more convenient. The party members have positive and negative traits as well. It seems like a mixture of Darkest Dungeon and Oregon Trail, too stressful. Finally, they just offer the Oregon Trail which is limited. In Oregon Trail 2 you can choose 4 destinations and have direct control every move your party makes on the trails.

My favorite game
I only got this game two days ago and I’ve already completed the Oregon trail and the California trail. This game is so full of adventure and excitement that it’s insane! Usually I don’t like mobile games but I haven’t put this game down since I got it! It’s incredibly historical and I’ve already learned so much just by completing the tasks that the game gives to me. I applaud the creators for all the amazing work they’ve done on this game. I beg of you to continue making content for this game, because it’s quickly become my favorite game ever. I do have one request that may make the game more interesting: I request a game mode in which you can pick the personalities and appearances of your party before you make your way down the trail. Of course I imagine that this would be a separate game mode unlocked by completing the Oregon trail for the first time, but I was surprised to find that this wasn’t something already added to the game.

Addicting, fun and challenging.
I absolutely love playing Oregon Trail. I played The Oregon Trail and Oregon Trail 2. I preferred the second one on my PC. I don’t have have a CD-ROM drive on my laptop and was really wanting to play Oregon Trail. I discovered this game and have been playing non-stop. It is super addictive! I love the fishing and hunting challenges as they bring more to the game and can increase the characters skillsets. I have never left a review for a game but felt the need to promote this one. Travel across the country side, go fishing and hunting and try not to get cholera! I loveeee that they introduced some new characters and backstories. I think it would be interesting and would love if there were more character added in. I love the mini-games and getting the bad guy to abandon his quest for vengeance- or completing it… and fishing. The graphics are great for a phone game. I am very pleased with the game and look forward to any updates or improvements they may add in the future.

Great! 2 issues
Got sucked in for 9 hours straight to complete the trail. But at the end of the trail one of my characters arrived to Oregon City to settle down and make "chease" pizzas. It's cheese! Second issue is that I very much disapprove of the repeated encouragements to carve our names in the rocks. Maybe that is a Native American tradition incorporated into the game but these days we don't need anybody carving into any natural wonders, and I am sure Native Americans don't want random people carving up their rocks, so I REALLY wish they would take that out? Kids will play this and think it is an encouraged activity to carve into trees and rocks in the wild. Other than that a very engaging game. I stayed up all night playing it, and might play it again. Oh and a third thing, it was not very hard to keep my team members alive through the whole trail, which is definitely a departure from the original game. But overall 5 stars.

I love the latest update! However…
Ever since the new update, I have things randomly disappear from my wagon. The party can be walking down the trail or resting overnight & lose ALL of whatever item it is. I’ve now lost over 50 pelts (11, 14, 10, 7, 1 at a time, however many I have on hand, & I need these for river crossings!), over 20 coffees, over 10 medicines, over 10 clothes, & over 5 wheel grease…& that’s only what I’ve managed to actually watch disappear from my inventory. There is no “history” menu for me to pull them up & screenshot the proof of their disappearance after they disappear from the right side of the screen. Thanks to your new character randomizer (which I absolutely LOVE!) I’ve had charming characters each of these trips so those pelts that were lost cost me $8 each! 3 different times though I’ve lost the bulk of my pelts near the snake river crossings when I’ve needed them most. PLEASE fix this! I know you have bugs you have to work out after new feature updates, so can you please address this so I stop losing inventory into thin air for no reason whatsoever??? 🙏🏻🥺🙏🏻

Prioritized virtue signaling
I couldn’t get into the game without a mini shame laced history lesson about how some people are still raw about being utterly conquered hundreds of years ago. I’m sure all the super orthodox natives are just wringing their hands while downloading your game to see how empathetic you are to their collective and universally shared thoughts… The point is, we expect historical accuracy. The explained redundancy solely based on virtue signaling is just sad. I actually wouldn’t be surprised if their was an option for a gay couple or a groomed trans child just to keep the cancel creatures from attacking in the contemporary world. Do you openly sympathize with parents who have lost young children to sickness and have therefore collaborated with mothers and doctors? I don’t know, maybe I’m just jaded and broken by the nonstop barrage of politics and race baiting. But it’s a game. No explanation needed. Let us feel the added content without patting yourself on the back and adding to the social contagion of stolen valor/victimization peddling. Maybe I’ll try your game during the first week of “Caucasian people’s heritage celebration month”… (It sounds just as dumb with any other “race”)

The Oregon Fail
What a complete and total disaster this version of the game is. The Oregon Trail game was, once upon a time, as much about making your own decisions as it was about teaching historical lessons. That’s what made it fun but also an effective teaching tool. That’s what made it a cultural touchstone. That’s what made it an experience as close to being on the real trail as possible without putting yourself in actual danger. This massively dumbed-down version of the game is heavily scripted and revokes essential decision-making freedom. Not only doesn’t it trust the player to go their own way, it flat out won’t permit it. It’s clear that the only goal here was to teach players how to follow instructions, not how to make smart decisions for themselves. Even the simplest task of creating your own party has been greedily snatched away from the players, who must instead choose from a pre-generated assortment of characters who are only there to follow the script and make sure that the player never has any real control over the outcome. These developers should never have been trusted with this franchise. They should be embarrassed by what they’ve done.

Alright
It’s overall a pretty fun pass-time. I wish it was more clear why things were happening. I will have a character’s morale bottom out and they get “forlorn” for no apparent or logical reason. They are not ill, the weather is fine, they are well fed, and they get mad and leave the party when the next fort is only 3 miles away. I understand having some random bad events happen in order to challenge the player, but randomness makes more sense with things like accidents, not character morale. If the next destination doesn’t have anyone offering to trade you a harmonica, or if the store at the next fort is out of stock, there is literally nothing you can do to improve morale. Only using a harmonica helps lol. Doesn’t matter if you take them to doctor, barber, have filling rations, get them clean clothes, rest, etc. It’s frustrating for things like this to happen in the game when it’s not clear why and you can’t do anything about it.

Its fun but too much
I just started playing the game and I'm not gonna lie. I really enjoy the challenge and adventure. One thing I find rather irritating and the reason why I kinda lost interest, is that it's unrealistic. Every second, every lil bit my group walks, something horrible happens. It really makes it pointless to spend my money I saved because in every second I'm going to use my tools. Whether it's medicine, fixing my wagon or simply an accident where my character foot gets stumbled. The possibilities that were fun in the beginning are now irritating and not enjoyable. It should be dictated on what path I take, not just because I'm walking. And also when it comes to choosing the group. We should decide how many we want. I find it easier to maintain 2 or even one and with the challenges involve, it then becomes more relaxed. I'm not saying make it way easier, just some of us would rather enjoy a backstory the group we create and adventure, instead of just the “survival” story. If I make sense lol.

Ideas
Ok this game is Awesome but there are some additions that would be cool. A brief summary is, Wagon Trains that would let you play with other AI in a group of wagons or instead of AI we could have multiplayer with multiple wagons in a wagon train, new animals you could bring on the trail, including dogs for hunting, protection, and moral, Cats for keeping mice away from the food and moral, female cows for milk, and finally, Horses for transport when someone is to exhausted to walk, and for carrying extra supplies. Now I normally I am just saying things I come up with and want. But not this time. I appreciate anyone who took the time to read this review and if the devs are reading, your doing a great job and your game is great. These were just some ideas that I feel would fit well into the game. Please send a response because I would like to know what you think of my ideas. Keep doing well, Me

It’s awesome so far!
As a history buff, I really enjoy playing this game. I like how there are variations as to which trail you’re on, it represents history well. I just wish the devs would add the Mormon Trail. I mean, sure, you can meet mormon travellers every once in a while on your journeys, but I feel like that’s not enough. It would also be pretty cool if you could vary your party sizes, instead of always having four. Another thing I wish was In this game is the ability to bring kids along with you. That would be especially fitting since some of the epitaphs say stuff like “our only child” and “little ____”. There should also be a teacher/professor class that can be added to your party, and they could be witty or brilliant or something like that. Overall, it’s an excellent game and I look forward to seeing new things added to it.

finally can try getting to the end
I haven’t even downloaded it yet it’s in the process but if this is anywhere near as fun as the original I am sure I will get plenty of time. Probably one of the few games I have not beaten actually other than Zelda on NES this would be the only other. Normally any game that unexpectedly killed my character from cholera after doing so well for so long surviving multiple river crossing and many other hardships I would’ve just turned it off. This game somehow held Past that instinct something Setting fire to determination to see that My desire to win would prevail not accepting got sick and died of cholera as my fate lol. unfortunately this game I did not own but played at school so I’m glad to see you here I can assure you I will Get to California after tasting it so many times getting through almost every hardship and actually making it to Oregon thank you guys for bringing it back

Great but boring
Firstly this game is great. Secondly, there has been no update to the game for a long time. Here are some tips for a new update. One: you should add trailers to be able to add additional stuff. Two: you should make a separate trail. We already have California, so why not add Mormon? You can add stuff like hand carts and criminals that are just lurking in your path. You should also add items, like cooked food that restores more health and at forts you can cook stuff. You should also add families to the game with kids that need half as much needs as the adults. You should also be able to select if you want two, three, or four members. And when you are on the trail, you can get people who are desperate for help and get them onto your party. Three: We need more variety for contracts. We should get more tokens if you complete a trail contract or a fishing contract. Also, you should make them a little easier to achieve.

I want to give it five stars so bad
The traditional game is great. But as you know from having played it as a kid, it gets old after playing it no more than two times. Fortunately, there are all of these extra contracts. Unfortunately, I’m thinking this app was made for some thing other than iOS because they are so difficult that I don’t think the software can have even been designed for my operating system. It would rely on some kind of controller or keyboard, like a gaming set up. If you can’t complete contract, you can’t do anything new in the game. You’ll see what I mean. When you go to play them - they are ridiculously difficult to the point of being impossible. So I am deleting the app and because it was my only reason for the Apple Arcade membership and I’ll be canceling that too. Hope you guys can improve this game in the future! Response to developer: all of them. Whip out an iPad and see how many tokens you can get. You’ll see.

Time brings about change
So, I remember this came from back in the mid-to-late 80's as we used the old-skool macs in school to play. Of course, we all looked forward to playing Oregon Trail. I happened to be sharing this nostaglic memory with my 9y old son when it dawned on me to see if they still had this game around today. Turns out, it's been upgrade a bit and must admit they've done a phenomneal job with the entire game. I love how they've modernized the game while retaining the essence of the classical game we all knew and loved. The colors and graphics are vibrant and the audio and track selection is spectacular. Sometimes less is more but dont think the devs could have possibly nailed it any more perfectly! I love the fact they've finally included those who were most essential to the story , the Native Americans! Great job guys.

Glitch during fishing
I LOVE this game and I could play it all day. BUT there is this stupid glitch that keeps happening whenever I go fishing. Well to begin with, throughout the whole game I always get this thing that pops up saying something along the lines of “save error due to lack of space on iCloud”. I don’t pay for extra iCloud storage and don’t have any left but it still saves my game anyway? So continuing on with the fishing glitch, the notification that pops up about the saving error will pop up and I’ll click continue, and all of the words disappear but the little green background cloud stays and then the whole game just freezes and I can’t keep fishing. I have to close out the app to restart it and lose all the cool fish I caught. Sometimes it does this like 3 times in a row. I wish I knew if it happened to other people or if it’s just me. If it could be fixed that would be amazing!!!!

Beautiful, educational, immersive experience
I grew up in Oregon playing the original Oregon Trail on an Apple IIe in elementary school. While maintaining the essence of the original, this massive re-imagining of a classic game expands upon the experience. Each journey is unique and complex, based on route choices, interactions with various (often historical) characters along the trail, and an array of gameplay options. Not only can players choose to play the traditional route with its many hardships, but also expanded options, such as the more relaxed Nature Trail, whose main purpose is to collect animal sightings along the way. Talking to characters on the trail or at waypoints is a welcome opportunity to see the journey from other perspectives. We meet Native Americans, Mormons, gunslingers, lovers, and musicians. Players can gain tools and experience playing a winter version. I haven't yet tried many of the small games, but there is even an option to experience the California Trail. This game is so pretty. The graphics are dynamic, changing with terrian and seasons, yet familiar with touches of the retro 16-bit game we know and loved. The background music is pleasant and drives the game forward without being tiresome or distracting. The pace of the game feels good to me. It's not overly addictive, but there are plethora of achievements to unlock.

Great game! I love it!
I remember my dad playing the original version, I used to watch him as a kid. It’s great to play with a more modern version, while seeing the retro vibe this game used to have. I love this game! I’ve been spending a lot of my spare time playing. The game saves right where you left from, every time, and it is quite realistic while being relaxing and challenging at the same time. My few recommendations to make the game more fun and challenging: • Adding bow and arrow hunting. Much like regular hunting, you must acquire a bow (which can wear out over time) and arrows. It would be a new, fun mini game. • Adding kids/families to the game. That would also be a more realistic touch of the real-life Oregon Trail. It would be challenging, as children need more food, medicine and clothing to survive. They can help gather natural remedies, foodstuffs, and keep the adults’ morales up. •More options for random travelers to join your party (unless you already have 4). • Also more karma-like consequences for your actions. Not just impacting morale, but the choices one makes will effect the party later (maybe a butterfly could be beside a button to show the player a butterfly-effect option). Thank you for developing a fun, enjoyable game without constant ads and the pressure to spend real money.

Pretty O.K.
On the one hand, I really enjoy the updated graphics and story-telling, and I feel like a lot of the original charm is retained. On the other hand, there are a lot of details that were overlooked, and it starts to get more annoying the longer you play. You can’t reroll characters easily, and sometimes the personality traits make no sense (such as a hedonistic yet religious missionary, or a frail yet athletic adventurer). You also can’t check what characters you already selected when selecting other member of your party (did you already get a physician? Can’t check). What your character traits effect are also kinda sloppy, for example my skilled trapper that regularly goes hunting got upset and lost morale when she shot an injured bunny to put it out of its misery. Latest play through, I had a character give a poor response to a decision based on a character trait he didn’t even have! He fell asleep instead of searching for supplies because he’s “wily,” except that’s not one of his character traits. I would love to be able to select character traits, or choose to have a smaller party, or basically just customize the adventure more. It’s not awful that I can’t, but it makes the experience just ok. There was more customization available in the original. There’s a lot of little things like the above that just feel sloppy. IMO this could’ve been an amazing game but there are too many missed opportunities and shortcuts with the gameplay.

Good game, just have a few recommendations
Hey this is a good game but I feel like it could be more fun story wise. The game is somewhat accurate but maybe it would be fun to add multiplayer? Like for example people could join a wagon party and vote on certain decisions. And if someone dies then maybe she could become an Angel or help choose the events that happen to the remaining party. Plus there could be a chat that helps people say why they might want to go to snake river or three islands crossing. Another thing is that I completed a quest and it said I unlocked the music class but when I went to choose the class for a different play through it said it was not unlocked even though I completed it? I’ve finished the game once and didn’t really do any tasks so do I have to complete the full game? If I die then will I still get the class? If so then why couldn’t it be after I completed the quest.

Wonderful Game!
I love this game! It’s wonderful! Had to get Apple Arcade for it but it was so worth it. People might say it’s “too difficult” but that’s what the original Oregon Trail was- difficult. Veryyyyy difficult. Applause to you for making it so well. We need to remember the brave people who made the journey upon this trail. I only have one super small suggestion: So, I was playing the game, and I had two bags of flour. I came across an abandoned wagon and decided to take a couple of parts from it. Well, the parts wouldn’t fit unless I discarded the flour. I wish I could’ve had the option from inside the wagon to bake all the flour into hardtrack, can you add that? Although that’s a super small suggestion, I know. This is truly an amazing game, and for those of you who are reading the reviews to see if you should get it: YOU SHOULD!! TL;DR? - get this game!

Good game; not fully compatible with new macbook screens
I realize the game is meant to look pixelated and nostalgic, and i like the effect, but, aside from this, the actual resolution is low. you can see this in any dropdown menu from the apple menu bar. same thing with everything in-game, if you look closely. again, im NOT referring to the intentional 8-bit look (which i actually like). but clearly the graphics are being scaled up from lower resolution, and its hard to ignore. aside from this, the audio and gameplay are great so far. they've done a nice job of retaining the original gameplay while throwing in some active mechanics that feel modern. there are several progressive mechanics that make the game replayable. they also put some effort in to more accurate portrayals of native people, which is greatly appreciated.

The new update lets you tap into history even more.
As an avid history fan when I got Apple Arcade I saw they remade the Oregon trail and I was ecstatic, it’s been half a year now and I’m still happy with it, the game is somewhat realistic but far better than other, and the new inclusion of the Donner-Reeds party trail made it even better, using these new history events can make the game even better and maybe they could include some fascinating fictitious trails as well? The only cons I have on this game is how any time you check for supplies in the wagon there’s a snake or something else, and the constant need to repair a wagon makes the game more challenging than I thought it would, in my opinion the wagon breaking down should be done in greater spans of times rather than almost every other encounter.

Immersive Story, Amazing Game, One Suggestion
I feel like my review was never looked at so I’m dropping a star, a developer response would be nice. Watching Mary die every time is honestly tedious and heartbreaking, and while I believe for new players this experience is one they should have, for people who have traveled the trail a lot a Physician with Medicine or Herbs should be capable of saving her. Another suggestion is the ability to save load outs for groups, dying on the trail and having to reselect everything individually is also quite tedious, it would be easier to just jump right in with a group you prepared and saved ahead of time, stats and all. Overall, this game is fantastic and your team is doing a wonderful job. Please at least acknowledge my review, even with a small “thank you” response and I’ll prop this back to five stars. Thank You and keep up the good work guys!

A true time killer
Although this review is titled true time killer this game is much more then that. It’s a game that’s been polished by developers who obviously care. There’s lots of balance to the game such as the characters stats which helps allow for different strategies, each strategy having there own strengths and weaknesses the game by it self can be played as slow as you want it to and each character you play with can become who you want them to throughout your journey which makes the characters feel way more developed the further you play overall this game has beautiful graphics and I haven’t experienced a single bug or glitch yet highly recommend for anyone who wants to experience a game that has amazing development and can be replayed countless times

Love this reboot!
I remember playing the original in the 90’s and I was so excited to see that there is a new version. I feel that it beautifully pays homage to the previous versions while being much more playable and wonderfully remastered. I love that it’s educational and fun. There are so many different challenges and possibilities. I was hooked right away and got my family playing it! Thank you so much for reviving such a memorial part of my childhood. The people who hate it have clearly never played previous versions lol and they clearly don’t pay attention to the advice that the game gives them. It’s easy to survive the game if you choose wisely. But it’s also really fun to struggle because I feel that’s a realistic experience for the Oregon and California trails.

It was great but then…
They fixed the walking part. They took away the daily mile counts and replaced them with steps in the “walk the trail” feature. Even when “miles” is selected as the measurement, it gives total travel in miles, but daily travel in steps. It’s dumb and gives me little to no idea how much I’ve actually walked. Please fix it. Also, when they updated the contracts to be daily instead of weekly, they failed to consider that some contracts take longer than a day to complete for people that don’t want to sit on their phone all day. The contracts based around mini games like hunting or rafting make sense to be daily, but ones that involve running part or all of the trail should still be weekly. Seems like the logical thing to do would be to separate them into two different contracts; daily and weekly.

Frustration!
I was looking for a problem-solving, character-based game that wasn’t just about shooting, and this one looked good. As a scholar of American history, I was doubly delighted to find a game with a context that was meaningful to me. Until now. My party is starving. I’ve tried to trade for food and bullets at the last three opportunities. Each time, we haggle and agree to a fair trade. But then I’m not given the option of completing the trade! The only option offered is “reconsider.” I don’t know what the problem is, and I certainly have no idea how to fix it, but what was an enjoyable experience of problem solving has turned into an exercise in frustration. Prior to today I would have given this game five stars, but at this point I only gave it three because it is fun when it is working. Of today was my first experience of the game, it would have been generous of me to award it one star.
