I figured there had to be an app for it. I downloaded another app first and could not figure out how to use it. Not user friendly at all. I saw this one and decided to give it a try. It seems to be very intuitive and simple to use which is what I need. I haven’t had the chance to use all the features yet, which may bump up my rating once I am done with my first trip that I have used it on.
This app is so close to being perfect. The overall layout is eye catching and appealing. I love being able to tell a story and inserting photos and videos where they work. However, this app has quite a few frustrations which cause me to think long and hard before I pay to subscribe. There needs to be the ability to add more than one photo at a time. Adding images is cumbersome and takes too long. My biggest pet peeve is not being able to timestamp my entries. I’ve reached out to support twice and received no answer back. It’s not a huge deal unless you want to create multiple entries for the same day. The map function doesn’t work and neither does the blogging function because the entries are not in the order they should be. I haven’t been able to figure out how to fix it other than opening up my entries, changing something and saving them. Way too time consuming. If this was free, I would live with it. I can’t justify paying seven dollars a month or purchasing a lifetime membership with these issues still looming. Support...please reach out and tell me how to work around the time stamp issue. I want to love this app!
When I came across this app I was very intrigued. I downloaded it and the first screen I was met with was the sign-up screen which I didn’t do because I didn’t fully understand it and I wanted to research it a little bit more by going online to the website. One of the first things I noticed was the pricing so, just out of curiosity, I clicked on it to see what features might be available for a free account. I was very dismayed to find it there was no such thing as a free account. I understand a organization needs to make money, however a limited function free account may draw more people into purchasing the service to get full functionality. $12 per month is a little outside of my budget and sadly I can’t speak on the usability of the app as it it pertains to the price because 14 day trial, in my opinion, is insufficient to get a full feel of what appears to be a very detailed and in-depth app. So my suggestions to the developer is to consider a free account that is very limited and tease with the more sophisticated features.
I did a quick look at 3 or 4 journaling apps before settling on Journo. Because we were on our way out the door, my main criteria was could I use it intuitively. It worked well, until it didn’t. I wanted to use it both for keeping friends and family informed of how our trip was going and as a keepsake for myself after the trip was over. Before it quit working, the problems I had were: (1) I could only insert one photo at a time, (2) The edit button doesn’t float and is only available at the top of the screen so if you spot an error late in your day’s entries, you have to scroll up to the top to click Edit and then scroll back to spot to make the edit. (3) When being viewed on the website, the user has to scroll through your entire trip to see the latest entry, but in the app, the current day is on top (4) On day 16 of our 21 day trip, the website quit working and wouldn’t display anymore of our trip. I emailed customer service multiple times and was told they would get back to me shortly. Other than the “we’ll get back to you” emails I’ve never received a response from them. Our trip was in July and it’s now September and still nothing from them. I love this method of journaling but will look for another app. I’ve screen captured my Journo journal and have deleted the app so I’m not paying $6.99 a month for an app that isn’t working.
I write a travel blog and Journo is awesomeness incarnate! Instead of using multiple apps I can accomplish more with Journo in half the time. Its sleek and does Maps, photos, videos and drawings. I can share individually or over social media. It even has a publishing feature if I decide to print a hard copy. Journo Exclusives has suggestions about writing formats in case I’m blocked. I’ve been using the Mapbox to display my journeys on social media! Cropping maps is child’s play. I have a business trip planned for the Philippine next month and Journo has a handy Currency Converter which is gonna be really really helpful. Journo is on a monthly fee schedule, but for me its was well worth the purchase.
I have found the app to be excellent when it comes to recording your thoughts, activities, and photos and geo-markers along the way. My issue to date is getting any kind of print out from my trip. I have some support contact, but no solutions yet. *Update! The issues I had have been resolved, thanks to the support staff and some time to update fixes. I fully recommend Journo for those that want to record travels in both real time and end of trip editing. Great for geo-location pictures and time stamps, which is a must to keep order in story organization.
I have been testing a couple other journal apps, and this one won me over by having video, and having a “website” I can send to family & friends to follow my journey without having to download an app. The “like” feature was important so I know they’re reading it. I’m all about paying for something well made & useful without advertisements. Customer service is outstanding as well. Other apps I tried I was having some issues with photos not showing, limitations on the amount of photos as well. Just not my cup of tea. This one seems to be a perfect fit for me.
Overall, it’s a fairly easy app to use, but I would love to have more creative options in designing my posts, the layouts are pretty plain. My biggest complaint is that you can’t have anyone comment on your posts! Also, I really want to be able to work on/edit a post without having it go live immediately. Sometimes, you need to stop and come back at a later time. This isn’t possible unless you take your ENTIRE journal offline and then put it back on. One last suggestion, when writing a shared journal, it would be nice to see who was posting it at the beginning of the post instead of having to read the entire post to find out who was writing it.
I love the idea and look/feel of what I can create with this app, but it has a long way to go before it’s not frustrating to use. Writing entries from my iPhone 11 is clumsy at best - photos always insert at the bottom so I have to cut/paste any text that I already wrote - selecting my text to cut and paste has a huge lag - my videos that have an edited length to be shorter post with the entire length of the original video - if i set my text formatting and switch back to the keyboard, sometimes the default formatting is back, so I end up typing first and then selecting the text (which I mentioned before is a pain) and then formatting. - the spacing I see on the app is not what I see when I test the web URL. Example - if I have a one line space between consecutive photos in my app, on the webpage, I see no spacing between my photos I really love that I can write on the go from my phone, but would also love the option to edit from a laptop as I can type much faster, but maybe this would be less of a want if the app worked more smoothly. Bottom line - not sure I’m willing to pay for this ... yet.
Do you know how you download an app and then when you try it you immediately delete it? I did that with two other apps before finding this one. If you are serious about wanting to journal your travels anywhere in the world, this is the one to get. If you love to take pictures and share them with your friends, this is the one to get. If you want to seamlessly integrate your journal with your social media accounts, this is the one to get.
Love this app! I’ve always wanted a place to put photos and travel journal entries in one place, so my memories are cohesive. The app is easy to use and can even be published for all to see, if a public travel blog is what you’re looking for. I was even able to put in past entries and back date it, so I could have my recent big trip in with my current ones. On top of all that, the customer service is above and beyond friendly and helpful. So glad I made this purchase!
The art style and the overall presentation of this app made me really appreciate being able to put thought to forum. I have always enjoyed writing but I fell out of practice a bit as some of my passions died to some necessities of life. The combination of writing and traveling, two things which every person should strive to do if within their financial ability, made me rediscover the wonder of writing. I am grateful.
When I found this app I thought I was downloading an app that would connect me with other people that also loved traveling. But it seems like that’s not how it really works. You have to add friends that you already have. I was expecting to meet some new people and publish my adventures to the unknown :) I can just use facebook to upload my photos to my already existing friends. I have to admit that it is really user friendly and a clean looking app. It’s just not what it seemed to be. A way to connect other fellow travelers.
Delighted to have preserved our trip and shared it with friends
Last year we took a seven week trip to Europe. I was able to record and share our daily adventures including photos with friends and family. I plan to start another Journo journal for our 2019 summer adventures. We received a lot of positive feedback from all those who followed our travel thru Journo.
I've been testing many travel apps. This was the first one I've been able to use immediately based on the easy interface and obvious icons. They prompted me for this review a bit early, though. Still trying to re-size a photo, and I can't seem to make the maps function work properly, but overall this seems great and I'm excited to use it on my upcoming trips.
I travel a lot and wanted a way to track memories better. I used to use Yelp to remember restaurants/bars and photos that I painstakingly organized by trip. But no way to track my thoughts. This app does it all! And so easy to use. I tried three and this is by far the easiest and fastest way to get the journaling going. So - for those of you who may be put off by the price, don’t be. The monthly subscription is less than a glass of wine and the life time is a good steak dinner. This is what I always tell myself when I splurge on something that I normally would not do. I am so enjoying this journal! So thank you!
I used this app on a three week Mediterranean cruise. I found it very easy to use and I am thrilled with being able to record my adventure with Journo . Another cruise is right around the corner for me and I am looking forward to recording the next one and every other trip I take with this app.
Great concept and done pretty well. Absolutely needs the following: (1) ability to invite co-travelers and allow collaboration. (2) ability to edit dates so you can post an event that took place last night or on any prior date. (3) show pictures of friends when you search for them. Other than that, this is pretty solid.
I had fun with the app in the beginning. Then was a bit of a pause due to Covid related limitations. As I finally get a chance to travel and use the app… I ran into an issue. I had used Facebook to log in. But with all the hate, I decided to end my Facebook account. Well I now find out I can’t log into my Journo account… after I paid for a lifetime membership. I did attempt to reach out, but no response has come. So I guess I’m out of luck.
I wrote a previous review speaking of some issues but mostly positive. Now we have not been able to receive any posts from our daughter for over a month, and while the developers are quick to reach out to you, the fixes continually promised to both her and her family members, 'next week', have not materialized. She has another month of travel ahead and i don't expect it to ever work. So, short summary: worked well for a couple of weeks, then started to have problems, then failed completely.
I invested 4-5 day’s journaling with this app. I liked the interface even though I could only add one photo at a time to my entries (slow and frustrating, but not a show-stopper). Half way through my trip, the app started freezing up - would not let me edit or make new entries- and eventually, once I got more than a blank screen with a spinning ‘loading’ data wheel, it started throwing up server error messages. Now I have to recreate my journal entries and could not be more frustrated with the app. Look elsewhere. This one is a dud.
The app claims you can get a coffee table book, but I don’t see how to do that. I thought one would actually come from the company. But it appears I have to print the journal out on my own printer which is not a coffee table book. The description of the app talks about a hardback coffee table book. Can someone please help me?
This app flat out doesn’t work! Would be a poor app if it were free! $12 a month is money thrown away! For 2 days my journal will only publish text. No photos! Have contacted support 3 times now with no response. There is no documentation on how to do certain tasks. That would be fine if the program worked at the basic level. Looks like journal has been “synchronizing” for 48 hours. Tried to start over but same issue. What a waste of my time and money!
It's a nice app with an easy intuitive interface--though still a little bulky looking. Usable if it were cheaper but the subscription price tagged with the app renders it pretty useless if you're in search for long-term travel blog unless you want to pay $140 for lifetime. At this point it is only sitting on my home screen because of the initial albums I started that I haven't copied to a new app yet. Honestly, you might as well just make a new separate Instagram account for travel and start photo-blogging on there.
I love the functionality and idea behind this app but the location services needs a little improvement. I find myself having to type in exact addresses even for well established locations. Overall I’m loving it though!
If our avid computer using web site building teen can’t use it , it is no good. And yes she PAID for a useless subscription. It claims You don’t. We’d an account to read the blogs. That’s not true. You do. And it is next to impossible to figure out. The app crashes and it seems you have to use a computer for most things. Who even has a computer anymore. It’s phone or tablet. So boo. Thumbs down. You took our money and we had to find a app that actually worked for her to write about her studies in Europe and Asia. Not happy.
Journo is perfect! I tried a few different apps and Journo is exactly what I wanted. Easy to use with maps so I can see we’re I’ve been on the trip. Easy to load pictures and great layout. So nice to look back now at each trip.
I love this app! So easy to use and when I emailed Dane with a question, he replied right away with a very thorough response. I’m always looking for things to streamline my efforts to document my experiences and travels and this is the perfect combination of putting pictures and story together. Thank you!!
This program is quirky to say the least. It comes without instructions, it is difficult to use, doesn’t always post the same day one writes an entry, makes entries only in a single linear column. The map function is a plus but is slow to load, as is the whole program when opened on the web. The support is good, though 24-48 hours for each request. I think this will be a fine program...someday, just isn’t now. I’d wait till they figure it out.
Maybe I was being naive thinking this was a free application.... not sure it’s stable enough for me to cough up the same amount per month as Netflix or some other like service. My kids got through most of a month of journaling before being locked out. I kind of feel like the work they did is being held ransom. I’ll pay to get their information off... the in the trash Journo shall go.
Love that we can print out a map of our entire camping season. Wonderful to look back on with my little ones. I would love it if there were an option to showcase one photo at each destination in the print view. Could make for an out of this world keepsake.
U love to go back and read about my past trips. This app makes it easy to keep up with it during each day of travel. The map section is wonderful to look at as well
I needed a little help getting started. Customer support emailed me back within the day with detailed instructions for the items I had questions about. I can’t wait to use this on my next vacation.
I’ve just recently started traveling and my photos were just kinda stored hodgepodge in my phone. This app gives them a home and some much needed organization! It’s super easy to use and has all the features I need.
Very easy to use. Have only used it for a few days but so far it has kept my vacation photos organized and extremely easy to add notes and captions on the go. The map feature that tracks your locations is nice too.
As a full time RVer, I want an app that lets me map where I have been, take notes on my adventures and keep my travel photos organized. I wasn’t looking for an app to help me write a blog, but maybe now...
I thought this would be a fun way to share a six week adventure with friends and family. I’ve made several attempts to fix problems but no resolve in two weeks. Now that I’ve paid for a subscription my site says that I’ve “unpublished” my Journo. No I haven’t and still no help from support. I would change my rating if I could just get some help from support.
My husband and I were planning a 4-month trip in our RV visiting friends and family in the mid and eastern US along with some sightseeing. After researching the travel journal apps, we decided Journo was the best one and easy to use. We used it to keep in touch with everyone and had so much fun entering information and pictures daily. We got rave reviews from everyone that they loved the blog and following us on our journey. We’d recommend Journo to everyone! Pat & Bill in Arizona
It is really amazing... the idea of Journo. I just hope that location tracking is not fixed to a city. I would rather have locations updated within cities. Thank you for the app anyways.
I can across Journo when it launched. I used it once on a road trip but wasn’t able to access all of its features on my iPad. I got an iPhone and am now a full user of Journo. He’s to more trips, travels, adventures and fun!
Finding a program that Ican document travel, include pictures, video, and share it in social media and save it for future reference was my goal. I think I found it.
This is an awesome app better than any other journaling app I’ve gotten I just wish the app would work when I don’t have internet it won’t load but overall everything else is so cool
I have just gotten this app and am heading out on my first trip so I will know more when the trip is done but the set up was easy, particularly adding pictures.
