If you are a creative, conscientious and curious traveler I highly recommend this app.
So, I recently found out that you can become and expert workdpacker and they had programs you could sign up for etc. So I'm logged in and go to check out the programs and it tells me to "log in to apply" I already am logged in? Anyways, I click the button to log in and it takes me to the log in screen so I login through facebook and it takes me back to the home screen. So I go to click on my profile page where it has the "Become and expert" button and it logs me out of my account. So naturally I log back in and it's just a never ending cycle. It says I'm logged in but when I go to check out the expert programs it says I'm not when I AM. It even logs me out when I go to click on my profile. I would like to become and expert but the app keeps saying I'm not logged in and I haven't logged in when I am c l e a r l y on my account. Fix it, please, it's very frustrating.
Worldpackers collects $50 from travelers by selling a false expectation that people can get free stays in exchange of volunteer “work” which they pitch in a way that doesn’t sound like work. We were a host on the platform and the first 5 travelers who came really had no interest whatsoever in working at all. The first traveler wanted to tour the island the second day of work, the second traveler never showed up, the third one ended up upgrading to a paid room once they understood there was volunteer work involved otherwise and the fourth went on vacation after two days of volunteering. Don’t waste your $50 for the false hope they sell you. If you’re truly interested in volunteer work, all the NGOs including our our NGO have websites that advertise for volunteer positions. You can Google and you will find them at no cost to you.
I was really excited to find this program, and so I went ahead and paid the membership fee. After using it for a few hours I noticed a few issues that could be fixed for UI. For example, when you open a position and you read under activities, it gets cut off in the bottom. I also noticed when I was inputting my background info the text would run off to the side and get cut off as well. I may consider just using the website instead but so far it’s been fine.
WorldPackers really changed my life. I had the best experiences through them. There’s a lot of amazing hosts and thanks to the reviews, I know what I’m getting myself into. I haven’t had a bad experience and will continue to keep using the service. The App is just great to have instead of constantly logging back in through the browser and it’s easy to navigate.
Dangerous and Unregulated- women avoid at all costs!
Put me and other women in a very dangerous situation with a man sexually praying on women on the site. Hosts are not thoroughly background checked. When I told them what happened, they said they would help me get a hotel due to the extremely traumatizing experience that they allowed to happen, which I have on record in writing, then changed their mind. Offered me no support other then “go to the German police.” If anything happens on your stay they will not support or help you. I messaged the girl who had been with the host before me and she said that she had already reported the host to Wordpackers. This means that the company was aware of the situation and danger and still sent me there.
So I’m planning an upcoming trip to Latin America. Very excited to try out Worldpackers for the first time and psyched by all the things I’ve read about it. The review is purely for the app itself. When I go to the Academy section, nothing I click on works, even the Continue Watching intro series on “How to be an outstanding worldpacker”. I basically have to go to the mobile site to watch. Everything else works fine but when a whole tab malfunctions it’s kind of a bummer. I downloaded it yesterday too so I know I have the latest version.
This app/company is amazing! They do an incredible job of connecting willing and eager travelers with certified organizations and hostels to provide housing and other amenities in exchange for some form of agreed upon work. It is a great way to travel if you’re not afraid of doing things on the cheaper side along with being in a constant state of meeting and interacting with new and interesting people!
The app is very easy to use. Some of the features are a little confusing, but after I contacted with some questions I understand completely why they’re like that now. Great app and communication with the team. Rebecca helped a ton!
So I downloaded this app in hopes of traveling the world helping others in other countries while adventuring, I paid 99$, I got a reply from someone but it wouldn’t let me reply back to them, the app was slow and glitchy, and I couldn’t even complete the courses because the site it tried going to to take them wasn’t a secure site! So I reached out to world packers and told them I wanted a refund and apparently I don’t qualify for a refund even though the app doesn’t even work.
I’m tired of traveling app like this that tout Verification by payment of a subscription or fees. That’s only verifying I’m paying for membership services not because I or anyone else is a safe trustworthy person! Where are the requirements for background checks? Personal references? Of both parties. Also, if I can only find one or two opportunities (with no guarantees I’ll get either host spot) and have no plans on making this a yearly lifestyle why should I pay $50 for it?!!! Ridiculous! App doesn’t state membership required to apply for position!
The app itself is fine but I cannot get notifications to quit, despite them being turned off inside the app as well as in phone settings. And not just actual notifications but also push-ad type stuff for memberships. It’s frustrating but hopefully just a bug that can get corrected in an update.
I love everything about the app and opportunities it brings and the plans are so worth it. The only issue/bug I wish they’d fix in the app is I have favorited hosts that closed their position and I have no way to unfavorite it and it just takes up room.
I found a few cool sounding opportunities but read the reviews and found 1 star reviews that detailed being manipulated or abused by their host. I’m confused why those listings are still allowed to be up and now suspicious of the safety of any of the ones on the app since it seems like there is a carelessness towards potential travelers by not removing unsafe situations or screening hosts. edit: now with the latest updates the app won’t even load
The app itself holds all the information but it’s not very device friendly on my opinion. It’s hard to narrow down opinions and then has gotten buggy as well, but other that that it’s good for the little that it offers and keeping in touch with the other members. Not good for searching opportunities at all in my opinion
I’ve heard so many great things about Worldpackers and I’ve been trying to apply but their app has been glitching and I’ve been fighting with it for an hour trying to be able to sign up and it just won’t let me. I’m extremely disappointed because this is something that I wanted to do for a while.
I spent 5 months on this app trying to get accepted to volunteer smwhere + i payed 40$ for the subscription but no host has accepted my application. I tried to email the app for help or for a refund but they didn’t give any solution for neither. + a lot of host wouldn’t accept you is you don’t have a EU passeport (aka white). Anyways don’t subscribe and don’t pay !
I love to backpack and this app helped me make a bunch of dreams come true and is continuing to do so, if you are a traveler this can be one of the best apps you can ever download
I downloaded the app for the first time today. Unfortunately I was not able to signup with Facebook. When I tried to use email signup, I got stuck at giving my birth date. The datePicker somehow shows blank and I was not able to pick my birth date on the picker so I couldn’t complete the signup process. What’s good about this app if user can’t signup and use it? :(
The app doesn’t load anything anymore so I can’t apply or look for destinations. My app is totally up to date and this has been happening for weeks now
We foreigners spend thousands of dollars to go and meet people, but in return we get treated like cattle, for example putting 7 people in small 2 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment. And if you say something you are wrong, yeah right paying to be wrong and to get treated like cattle.
I keep trying to sign up via this app but I can’t get past the terms of service page. The “Accept” button doesn’t work. I have tried numerous times. Please fix this bug!!
Pay for the subscription and made my profile and literally nothing works. My profile never updates. it’s not even allowing me to apply to any places. ☹️
It’s a volunteer opportunity… I get having to pay a small fee to maintain the app but €50 per year?? Insane profit-seeking price, and especially since the app doesn’t even work that well.
Exchange your skills for accommodation it's easy and fun with this app, direct and with many options, it's a no brain app to stay installed on your phone.
I like the app, but even after the update, the search feature is still so limited. I would love to be able to search keywords so that I can find, for example, work on a vineyard in Argentina as opposed to looking through all 500 Argentina jobs, sifting through housekeeping and front desk work at hostels. Everything else runs fluidly, but the search options need to be optimized. Searching by keyword, sorting by host rating, etc etc.
The concept of the app is great but it's so limited. I wish I could make my own profile and list all the skills I can offer besides just the languages that I know. The notifications get annoying when people comment the same topic as I did and there's no way to turn them off unless I uninstall the app.
