I’m in love with this app! It takes all the brain work out of creating the many different playlists I need. It’s as simple as putting in your genre and bpm, a group of artists pop up and you can delete whoever you aren’t interested in. Within seconds you have an amazing brand new playlist!!
I tried several features of this app when it first launched and again in Nov 2023. It’s ridiculously buggy and slow. I tried creating a couple playlists just now and after waiting 3 minutes for a response, I gave up. Same with finding “friends of artists”, no response in a reasonable amount of time. When the full ChatGPT4 Turbo with custom GPT assistants is $20/mo and has unlimited uses (not just playlist creation), why would I spend $2.99/mo for this app? Especially when ChatGPT can spit out a playlist for me in about 10 seconds vs this app taking 3+ minutes? Also, ChatGPT directly makes MUCH better playlists, and is interactive so you can tailor it to your personal preferences. I find that this app generates completely predictable playlists of hit songs that I’ve heard thousands of times, even if I prompt it to make a playlist of “b-sides and discovery”… while the same prompt on ChatGPT directly generates a playlist full of surprises.
This app has made some amazing playlists ! But the AI is still somewhat limited. I can type “upbeat new wave” and it makes a fine playlist. If I try to create “songs about dogs” or “songs about superheroes” it fails completely. It doesn’t seem to recognize BPM, lyrics or themes. For me, THAT will be the killer application. I’d love to be able to tell it “play songs from Oingo Boingo that have themes about death or scary things”, “Songs with the word “love” in it.” That may just be a training issue (maybe a way to edit the prompt after generating the playlist, or communicate to the ai directly, like ChatGPT and offer criticism there) If the app/service can meet its promise, This will be a game changer.
Looks very promising. However I asked for upbeat jogging songs from the 50s through the 80s. The playlist had a ton of Christmas songs (something I’ll keep in mind come December) and many many duplicates so took probably 15 minutes to delete all those plus the songs I just didn’t like. On the plus side it included some songs I never would have included but fit surprisingly well adding some welcome variety/discovery. Honestly though, I usually get better results selecting “insert your name’s” station. I’ll play around with the app some more but right now I can’t justify the paid upgrade. AI is evolving so fast I expect this app to be genuinely great in a relatively short time. I recommend downloading it and taking it for a spin, you might just like it a lot.
I really want to love this app but the AI needs a lot of work. I ask it for 80s electronic music and it gives me 80s music mixed with electronic music. I can’t get it to give me a useful playlist given my limited attempts. It’s always a mix of different artists of different styles. I like that it has the ability to select artists. However, this is completely useless because I don’t know any of these artists and that is why I’m using this app. I wish there was a way to edit an existing prompt as well as preview the playlist before adding it.
I’ve found some great songs using this app. I just hope there will be an option for a strict and loose criteria. That way the stuff selected in strict are guaranteed throughout the playlist while the loose stuff are the only changing thing. Like if I want a playlist that consists of only rap that should be strict, and for loose I could get a variation from picking among various things such as emo, aggressive, trap, mumble, etc.
I had a error with the app and needed to contact the developer about the air and within minutes he got back to me. he is so nice and I’m not trying to be biased, but the overall experience with PlaylistAI is so good too. Big shout to Brett for helping me with the app.
This is an interesting effort at making AI Playlists but it has more than a few bugs. For instance I did Friends of Artist search on Kenny Chesney and got nothing. Huh? Several times it seems to hang for minutes doing nothing. Says something like waiting on Apple Music. Perhaps this App will evolve into something Great but right it is not worth the price of admission. FWIW the Playlists I have generated were very good. Will check out this APP again after it matures a bit.
You can take a picture of a concert poster, or the text on a cereal box, it will guess at what the bands are by searching spotifies database for band names, and it will load them into a playlist.. Believe me, it will bend your brain..
Was so excited to use this app for this festival season after dev announced on Red months ago. Got my first lineup handed beautifully. I tried to click “go pro” for $1.99, not because i need the features, but wanted to support! Updated the app, and now the one time fee is $65?! And i refuse to subscribe. Its cute. And it works, but for $65 ill make my own fest lists.
This is a fantastic application of machine learning I used the app to generate a few playlists for music to play at work meetings, and it suggested at least 5-10 songs that made it to the final list. Music that I hadn’t even heard of.
Solid use case for GPT-3 that is more creative and flexible than much of the recommendation engines out there. The prompt based creation opens up way more flexibility for finding new music.
Easy to use accurate and good recommendations, just wish it provide songs that we normally wouldn’t listen too instead of all the artist more popular choices basically what we hear all the time.
I feel like this could be great but the limited track list is a big no go for me. Also, being able to maybe select songs after a prompt and then expand from there would be a great feature.
It’s hard to find something that will give you amazing personal preferences. Also, the playlists that this app generates seem to be limited to 30 songs. I’d almost rather use chat gpt and manually transfer the songs at that point.
Finding great music in different ways! Just threw at it the Glastonbury, 2009 festival with 7 songs max and it handled it like a champ and created a 96 hour playlist! Love it!!!!
It’s not very good at generating a playlist using only songs with a similar feel; also, I told it to only use songs that are in my library, which mostly worked, but not completely. I do not like that it requires you to give them your Apple login.
As long as you’re not a Boomer like Andi this app is great. Exactly as advertised and works seamlessly. I would even recommend getting the “Pro” version for $2.
Fantastic Integration with GPT-3. The UI/UX is fantastic. Everything is spot on. Perfect seamless experience. This has serious potential for anyone looking to expand their scope of Music!
if you’re like me and you came to find a new music app (i left from discz), it’s amazing! you can completely customize your playlist after it’s made and make adjustments as you see fit. i love picking out specific music and making all my playlists by hand but this definitely helps, especially if you don’t feel any desire to make your own playlists!
It makes some good playlists, but it’d be nice to be able to filter a little more, such as if I were to input “2000’s” and have it limit it to that. But I’ll keep an eye out on it.
This thing can’t even generate a playlist based on a very general description that specifies instrumental music without vocals. Every time I ask for something like that, it always includes several tracks with vocals. If you can’t do something that simple then It’s LM must be very weak.
Audio is the most important medium for human expression, full stop. This is a cool concept and good execution on the vision. Excited to see where it goes
The app creates a playlist in the app, but only transfers the music as individual songs to Apple Music. I guess the user then needs to take these songs and create a playlist list. This should be more simple
Maybe it works with some genres, but it keeps recommending the same 30 songs no matter what sub-genres look through (sometimes being totally outside of what I’m actually looking for). Completely useless to me.
it’s not always easy discovering new music, especially when you’re into niche stuff that nobody listens to, but this app has made it significantly easier
App does not appear to do what it claims it will do. In fact, I couldn’t get it to do anything even with the pre-made search terms it comes up blank after thinking for a while.
Do not be stupid and pay for this. The playlists it creates are no better than the current FREE radio station offerings on the app. I know it costs to access ChatGPT but this is pretty much a scam.
Didn’t pick up on any prompt details beyond the overarching genre - no bpm range, no subgenre of electronic music, never adequately interpreted the « mood ». Cute gimmick but not a serious tool
