Definitely much improved from what I signed up with a few years ago. Easier credentialing but still secure. More services like Zelle and Apple Pay. My other accounts are with a large credit union and this app is now my preferred platform for day to day transactions. Definitely not fancy but does the basics very well
This app offers a few very basic functions. It would suffice if it was 2014. But it’s not. The latest update seems to be nothing more than a bit of a facelift, with very little added functionality. What’s worse, it’s taken to signing me out every single time I use it instead of using Face ID like it says it’s going to. Fact is, the app is the primary way I interact with this bank, considering they’ve closed all but a couple of locations in the New York area. As such, I would expect a well developed app but instead we have this.
I love Amalgamated Bank. I love that they do only Socially Responsible Investing; they do not support any of the bad corporate actors in our society, including most prominently fossil-fuel companies and gun manufacturers. On top of that the bank is efficient and their customer service staff is efficient, responsive, and pleasant to work with.
Wrote a previous review that blasted this app’s apparent “security”. This update is to retract its criticisms. Turns out this app’s logout, or sign off, button didn’t surface until the app auto-signed me out. That’s a flaw I hope Amalgamated’s IT staff fixes. Back to a review, updating mine, now to 3⭐️. This app is ok, and does its job but it is seriously boring. Signed, a >30yr Amalgamated customer, happy and satisfied with the institution’s online & in-person performance. Those, the latter are exemplary.
I’ve been with this bank for more than 15years and they were referred by my mom and I can truly say I made the right decision when I switched from TD bank and Chase!
This is a very basic app that could use a few tweaks to make it a better gauge of one’s daily finances. It be very helpful to have text notifications when there are deposits made , low balance notifications etc. It’s 2024 and it’s time .
I will not be keeping this account. I am a city worker and it took my check about 14 days to clear. Told it was would take 7. Went to get my uniform in 7 days, got embarrassed at the counter because the check did not clear. This is a New York City Agency. I decided to stay and do business in my community. What good that has done. Continue to have issues depositing and check processing issues.
Can’t do external links. Not big deposit limit. Deposit and withdraw limit per month is very less. Can’t send trial depositts to link external banks. Take forever to open account and get it settled for transactions. Direct deposit checks take forever Basically, anything that you can think could possibly go wrong , will go wrong, working with this bank
Love the mission behind the bank (not finding fossil fuel businesses) the only downside is the login can be tricky sometimes, though customer service has always been helpful
This app has been buggy for a while and it’s a little slow. Lotta loading and even some time out errors. Force closing and reopening doesn’t fix it. And currently the deposit check feature doesn’t work and times out.
Every time I try to deposit a check it gets declined because I didn’t write the exact right thing in the endorsement. Why can’t I just put “for deposit”?
Great socially responsible bank, but the UI is dated and takes too many steps to do what other banks do in fewer. Please join Amalgamated so they can grow and improve their app!
ive been a long time customer and the new app update is not letting me log in, also having trouble on web. i hate leaving a one star review, a week ago it'd be five, but if it doesn't work I can't use it
Most of these negative reviews don’t seem to include the recent 2021 update with the new iOS functionality, too. This app has been updated and it looks pretty nice! I was surprised by how much it looks like other bank apps I’ve used. I switched from Ally, which has a pretty robust app, and this is not quite as fancy, but in fundamental ways, it is similar. I do find it intuitive and easy to use. It has a nice “plus” button now to easily access transfers, deposits, and other things. I like the app and would recommend it!
I don't even have the emotional capacity to describe how horrible my experience with this app/bank has been, but the tldr is that they have made my account "dormant" without notifying me. This means that I cant access my funds, and amalgamated slowly drains my account. The catch is that the bank does not have customer service whatsoever, so I will never be able to get to my money. I have spent 8 hours on the phone, and they always hang up right at the end of the hold time to fill a quota without actually allowing you to say a word. The chat function and email function just reroute you to the purgatory phone tree. The app of course does not allow you to do anything to alleviate these issues, nor does it let you transfer money, nor even just see your account number. Do not fall for the greenwashed marketing that this bank vomits out, they will do their best to drain your accounts and make absolutely sure you can't get into contact with anyone at customer service to fix it.
I have never written an app review in my entire life. Never felt the need to. I am a very happy person and tho life surely happens sometimes, usually I am just "not too worried about it." But this is by far, without a doubt, the worst app, and the worst app experience, that I have ever had. It's actually quite fitting, because this is the worst bank I have ever had, as well. Be fully prepared to have many random moments of zero access to your account, including balance checks. Just like my card at the ATM, sometimes the answer is just "NO," and without any context. And your friends will say "just call customer service," but of course, they are not familiar with this bank and their lackadaisical attitude towards customer satisfaction. Also be ready for facial recognition to not work sometimes, and if the app updates automatically then I hope you remember your password. This is not a "bare-bones" app, this is a "broken bones" app, and I have no idea how this bank is still in business.
Constantly getting locked out and having to reset password
My phone has thumbprint ID to get into the app. But to make a mobile deposit or transfer money you have to reenter your password by hand. It often doesn’t recognize my password and eventually locks me out. I am able to accomplish the task after resetting my password, usually on my MacBook because it’s too hard on the phone. Also there’s a problem where iPhone and MacBook don’t sync up passwords. So fixing this can take more than an hour. Every time I want to deposit a check. I generally put it off now until I have to or I lose the check. I also have pieces of paper lying around with handwritten passwords on them. The opposite of convenience. Not good security either but what can you do? Poorly thought out app.
For what I need to do (check account balance), I haven’t had trouble navigating / using the app. There is definitely room for improvement, and can be easy fixes: - Account Summary tab is redundant because I already see the balance as a big call out on top. Can consider getting rid of it altogether (UNLESS additional data will be added, such as “average monthly spending” or “average monthly income” or “FICO score” - Account Balance: besides just showing the spending/income activity, i would like to see the balance total alongside each line item as it changes = makes it easier to track balance fluctuations
This app is among the worst and is often not even functioning at all (like right now). Why can’t they get it right? Also, to supposedly be “the people’s bank,” “America’s Labor Bank,” the hidden charges Amalgamated imposes on non-Amalgamated ATM transactions have gone through the roof into the predatory category—$2.50 for every simple inquiry!, $2.50 for any withdrawal amount, on every transaction!—in addition to the fees charged by the other bank where the transaction is actually taking place. It’s not advertised to customers and is simply not right. And, again, the Amalgamated app is among the worst. Very little value added to banking here anymore. :-(
I love what this bank is and what it stands for. That is so much more important to me than the functionality of the app. However, since this is an app review, I have to say, it’s brutal can’t do external transfers. Tried to sign up for Zelle and just get an error message. It has the visual aesthetic of MS DOS. Spend the money Amalgamated, and make an all worthy of the 21st century :)
This is a bare bones app with next to nothing in the way of features. I can view my account balance, pay bills and deposit a check (which I don’t use), and make internal account transfers and that’s it. You can’t even view your account information, something that’s a basic feature with other bank apps. I really just want to use this to make external account transfers but you have to use the website for that. Even when viewing your account balance, the account activity only goes back a few months. Come on now! For a banking app in 2020, this app is REALLY awful.
I am new to Amalgamated and switched from a larger bank because of its mission. I mainly use online banking so the website and phone app are important to me. All good so far, but having come from a more sophisticated bank, I have one suggestion for the both the app and the website. It is a really nice thing the have the running total of your balance in the account when looking at the details of your account. I only write this so maybe the developers can fix. Other than that, it is basic but has all you need.
This app is dumb it has from time to time extra security nd if u forget ur pw u b locked out for good !! Nd theyr nbr will only open a ticket thats it the app do not send verification codes via text like it SHOULD so u can reset pw nd log in !! App is retarded period ! Nd the staff behind it dint even knw how to fix it !! Been locked out my app use for now 4 days nd no one can fix it !! Shame what a petty these ppl are behind the app nd the app its self ! Ridiculous
Trouble depositing checks, claims check not endorsed
I usually have two checks to deposit. I endorse them both the same way, capture them the same way and but there is always a problem with one of them. I get a Notification that the check is not endorsed even though it is. I still have to go to the bank as one of them is always rejected. I just don't get it!
Switching over to Amalgamated had me a bit worried because I live nowhere near a physical branch (I’m in Idaho). My biggest concern was depositing checks, but you can do it with the mobile app, which was great to find out. The app also allows you to view your accounts balance and transactions, view account history, make payments, pay people, and make transfers. It’s great!
Unprofessional & incompetent. Stay away at all cost.
I lost money because of this bank. Their managers don’t know how to help or know laws regarding ACH’s. Your money is not safe with this so called bank. I decided to have an account with this bank due to their attention of social issues; climate change, justice, equality and diversity. However all those issues are front for this incompetent place. Not to mention their manager insulted me and told me to go to another bank. Disgraceful. Never bank with them.
Amalgamated bank may be one of the under dogs in the banking world, but I can't get around how basic this app is! You can't even turn on or edit notification! Not even app notification like all other banking apps! And the design is boring. Seriously guys, you need to upgrade this app for modern times. Check your competitors and get modernized
App is constantly crashing and saying authentication required which causes me to have to log in via website and reset password. It’s a headache. Very basic app as well. Looking at your past purchase history and billing features are not smooth and easy. You have to put in your mobile password every time you ven though you are already logged in to the app. Granted that is a good safety feature but not user friendly at all.
I’ve been with Amalgamated for years. I chose them over big banks for multiple reasons. I don’t use the app often unless I need to transfer money and check balances. I have not been able to log into the app for days. Please fix this issue
Downgrading one star. Mobile check deposit never works, the photos are never accepted. I’ve taken them at all conceivable angles and with every kind of lighting I can concoct in my office. This is almost the only reason I would use a mobile banking app, so I’m pretty much dead in the water. The app now supports FaceID, which is great. Sadly, it makes you enter your password for some common tasks, like depositing a check. Very frustrating every time.
For a bank trying to go online only, this app is pretty bad. You can’t do much with it, just deposit checks, make transfers, and see your account history. You can’t find your account number, routing number, past statements, etc. Amalgamated definitely needs to invest in upgrading this app - it is a big step down from bank of America’s app
Would be nice if the splash page with accounts and amounts listed could also have a “total” amount of all the checking/savings accounts added up for those with more than one account at Amalgamated bank.
