Great Motivator!
I really like this ap! I was looking for an ap that could easily track my practice sessions. The Notes feature allows me to track which songs I skipped in a set, which songs I improved on, which songs I knocked out of the park - you get the picture. Now I’m reviewing my notes to see which songs I need to work on. In the past I would have just habitually skipped the hard songs, but now I’m motivated to go ahead and work on them. Full Disclosure: I got the free version of this ap. After working with it for about a day, I saw the features I could unlock by buying it. I immediately dropped the $5 or so it cost to buy it. I mean, really?? I pay more than that to buy a single album download. To me, this was a no-brainer. I can’t remember which features I unlocked by buying it, but I use the notes section a lot (see above). I also like the fact that I can track my practice sessions in the past week or month, etc. I recorded a practice session, but when I tried to play it back, the replay level was so low it was almost inaudible. That may be because my practice sessions are at a rather high volume - not sure. So I don’t use that feature. Anyway, I love this ap. It’s great for me and it’s helping me to practice smartly and improve my musical abilities at a rapid rate. I would definitely recommend this to a friend.

love this app so much!!
I tried writing down how long I would practice and using some other apps that were used for studying, but I would forget to do it or it wasn’t as convenient/helpful for practicing. I got an email from somewhere recommending this app and I’ve used it since then! (4+ months). I love being able to easily turn it on when I practice, and turn it off when I’m done, and if I need to do something I can easily pause it and go on other apps without losing my progress. the other apps were timers, whereas this one is more of a stopwatch, a tracker. They also have a timer option if you like that too! I love how easy it is to use. My favorite part is seeing my progress and having the focus and mood tracker. I never knew fully how long I practiced everyday, I sort of just looked at the clock and stopped when I thought it was an hour or so. But with this app I’m way more mindful about how I’m practicing, which has helped me a lot. also, I always thought I practiced every day, maybe missed a couple every 5+ months or so. turns out I actually miss a few days every month lol I really love this app, it’s helped my practicing become a lot more productive!! highly recommend, especially for musicians :))

Perfect. Exactly what I was looking for. Bought premium even though I don’t need it.
This is a simple, easy to use, aesthetically pleasing, perfect little tool. A lot better than the practice logs I had to write out as a kid! I’m an adult learning guitar for the first time and mostly just wanted to track total practice time so I had some sense of progress—how many hours of practice it actually took to get to wherever I am. This is perfect for that and more and couldn’t be easier to use. I actually find it super motivating too—I never want to break that practice streak! The metronome, the timer, the practice streaks, the graphical representations and stats are all great. So glad I searched and found this right when I started to learn. I bought the premium version even though I don’t really need/use the features because I’m just so grateful for this lovely app. I especially like the dark mode so my only suggestion would be that I wish I could set it that way in the app, regardless of whether my phone is in dark mode or not. Thanks so much for developing this!

gorgeous interface, easy to use- worth the upgrade, great bargain!!
I bought this app after seeing that the upgraded version was only USD 3.99, and I really wanted to pro feature of having multiple profiles (I play both violin and guitar), text notes, and to support the creator. The graphics are so cute and user-friendly (and I’m super picky about app interfaces, I really can’t stand ugly ones). The creator seems to have thought of everything—just now, I logged a practice session on the wrong profile, and I found the button to switch the practice session over in less than a second. Honestly, I can’t even think of anything that’s missing from this app—you can record+play back, the metronome is so cute, there are built in timers, everything’s been thought of. Maybe a to-do list feature would be nice, but that’s like asking for an upgrade while sitting in first class. The only thing I haven’t tried yet is the tuner, but I’ll be devastated if this app is ever taken off the app store!! Great work by the creator, keep it up!!

100% Recommend
Andante has changed the way I practice. The ability to return to my previous practice session's notes and think critically about how to approach my practice time has helped me optimize every minute of my practice, and make real change in my routine. Additionally, being able to see my habits change over time, and being able to keep longer and longer streaks as this app keeps me focused and motivated is helpful to my relationship with practice. Some of the features could use some improvement, such as a more customizable metronome and maybe the ability to customize metrics that factor into your practice session, such as preparation and environment in addition to mood and focus, though the simplicity of the app also makes it extremely user friendly. I would recommend this app for anyone interested in tracking practice of any age. It is super intuitive and user friendly.

Everything I Could’ve Asked for!!
I can’t even begin to tell you how amazing this app is. I’ve been a pianist for five years now, and recently started learning more advanced stuff, like Chopin. So I decided to try to find an app that would log how long I practice for. And let me tell you, this app thoroughly exceeded my expectations. It logs your practicing sessions, sums it up, asks you about your focus, your mood, and totals your average focus, mood, and practice (all while being absolutely adorable). It also has a notepad, so you can write stuff about pieces your learning, etc. And, get ready for this, it only asks you to purchase stuff unless you click on stuff you don’t have access to. It motivated me to practice even more than I normally would! Today, I practiced for 4 hours, and this is the first day I’ve ever had this app. Would recommend this app any day!!

Almost perfect!
There is a lot that I love about this app. It’s great to be able to have multiple profiles to track different areas of your practice. This benefits those working in multiple instruments. It’s simple and pleasant design. I really like the widget functionality so you can quickly start a practice session with a button on your Home Screen! On top of that it’s a very fair price. There are a few reasons why I have given this 4 stars instead of 5. Mainly that there is no section to create a list for practice material that you can link to your practice sessions. It would be more efficient just click desired material from the list to automatically name the practice session. I think having the option to start a session untitled is good too but at the end of the practice session maybe you could choose to name it or select from your predetermined material in a list. Pipe dreams for me would be to then also save data on time spent practicing specific material.

For a musician this app is a Pro app
For a musician I believe this app is an absolute must. It is easy to begin logging a practice session. I am able to create an audio log of my practice session. After my practice session I am able to give a rundown of how it went, my mood, my concentration level and notes on what I continue need to work on. I use the journal feature to set goals. Any time I practice I open this app, when I go to my vocal lessons I open this app to remember the items my instructor would like me to work on. It tracks my practice habits. I pay for the Pro version and I feel the features justify the purchase, but even the free version of this app is powerful. It supports modern iPad/iPhone OS features. It has Lock Screen widgets and Live Updates. Again, for musicians of any level this app is incredibly useful.

Loving this so far + 1 Suggestion :)
This app has worked amazingly well for me so far! It has all the features I need to record my practices across multiple instruments and is something I use daily. The streak feature has been instrumental (lol no pun intended) in keeping me motivated to practice consistently and I love the data analytics for length of practice, focus, and mood. For the developers, I have one suggestion: My mood often changes during(and as a result of)my practice. I would love to be able to record that; perhaps a “mood before” and “mood after” tracker could fulfill this need. The data analytics could then tell me my: -Avg. mood per practice -Avg. change in mood per practice and -whether my net change in mood per practice was primarily positive or negative Cross-referenced with my practice time and focus stats, this ‘change in mood’ feature would enable me to modify my practice habits in order to achieve the most positive mood and greatest post-practice feeling of fulfillment. It is something I would like to see added to the app, if you’re open to the idea! I recommend Andante to all my students, peers, and colleagues—100% worth using, for any musicians out there (pro, student, and amateur alike). Would give this 6 stars out of 5, if I could 😁❤️💯🎻🎹

Awesome app, a few bugs (?)
I love this app, I use it every day and have uploaded some of my hand written journal notes into it bc of how easy it is to use. The only issue I’ve had was where I tried to sync my iPad and iPhone. I think there was some user error that caused two profiles to combine and duplicate/triple/quadruple some of my practice sessions. Since deleting the app on my iPad and all of the extra sessions my app has been quite wonky. Home Screen does not show my streak progress and the calendar in the page is completely white. My number of hours have also been inconsistent (that may be from the app updating after deleting all of the duplicated sessions). Either way, I’m worried it isn’t saving data properly anymore (and the streaks feature really helps keep me motivated... not having it has been a bummer)

Look No Further- The Best Practice Journal
You can create several different profiles to keep mange of all your disciplines, track your progress by name or hours practiced, and journal the experience. It has a built-in metronome, tuner and timer- keeping everything in one place. Another feature is the daily goal and streaks for each profile. It helps me create realistic goals for my day-to-days and promotes consistency. The layout is very clean and has a dark theme option. It also displays its main timer on the lockscreen which helps prevent accidental scrolling. It’s also available as a widget - handy when you need reminder or a small moment of celebration. Best part of it all, it’s not run by a corporation, but an individual. That tip jar lets me support the creator of this awesome app :)

Absolutely genius
Thank you thank you thank you thank you. I’m so thankful that this app is so useful. It’s very simple. It does exactly what you need. I love the addition of keeping track of your mood and your focus. I never really thought about doing that and having Notes for each practice session is extremely awesome. There is a journal you can have multiple profiles, so for example, I play piano and saxophone, and I write music, and I need to practice various theory, all of which I can make a profile for and keep track of. I would’ve paid three times with this app is it charging. So thankful this is not a subscription. Thank you again for putting the time and effort into this. It even has shortcuts integration into iOS making this just perfect for my workflow.

Thank you for making this!!
This is such an awesome app! It gives me much more motivation to practice intentionally by reducing the barrier against doing so; for instance, I can decide to set a timer in the app and make my mental goal to ‘get this passage fluid in 10 minutes or less’, and use a metronome on the same screen. The timer is always there, counting down and reminding me that I have something to focus on. Even if I don’t achieve my goal, I have still spent 10 minutes narrowly focusing on a section, which is so much better than playing through a piece from beginning to end and wasting half of that time. The streak feature makes me have a fun reason to practice every day.

One of the best practice resources I’ve found
Honestly one of the best resources I’ve found to manage my practicing. I do wish I could have a drone going while looking at how much time I’ve been practicing instead of the drone turning off when I exit that section. I also wish I could add friends who have the app to “compete” against each other. (Not really important, just think that would be cool). The only thing I haven’t really liked is the metronome variability and that there isn’t a tuner. Other than that- the fact that I can add other profiles for other things like cello, voice, piano, ect. is amazing! I haven’t found a better resource than this one!

Only wish I had gotten it sooner
I used a physical practice journal toward the end of my time in college, and when I finished I thought practice journals were just not for me. Andante proved me wrong. This is so helpful in tracking my progress and reinforcing the pride I feel in practicing, in a way that is more effortless then physically writing it down, and does the stats for instantly that I never could before. I see the micro and the macro of my practicing journey, and it’s so helpful to have my practice life in perspective like this, so that I can take control! At least try it for a month, I think you’ll enjoy it.

Wonderful with room for improvement
Great little practice tool worth the $5 feature unlock fee. Only request: please make practice days a bit smarter. I often practice between 2300 and 0100 in the evening, and every single session involves going back to edit the date and time because Andante claims I’ve already done tomorrow’s session. Basically, adding a small filter even on just at the view level so that anything before say 0300 counts as the previous days practice would dramatically improve the experience for night owls, while still supporting those maniacs who wake up at 3 or 4am because Jocko tells them to. Anyway, thank you for helping give some structure and accountability to my piano journey.

The Best!
Ok - first thing’s first: this app is amazing! Miles - you’ve seriously changed my practice game, it’s so awesome. I love having everything in one app so I don’t have to keep switching between apps and possibly get distracted! The only suggestion, which isn’t even super super needed, is to have the notes portion have a writing option! A lot of musicians with an iPad for music also have an Apple Pencil because they like to write, so I’d looooove if that was added! Either way, I’ve been using this app so much I bought the Pro version. It’s awesome and I get to support another musician, so why not? :) thank you for making this!

Great Way to Track Time
This app has been so helpful since I downloaded it 2 months ago. I needed a way to track my time efficiently and this app does the job. I enjoy how easy it is to start a practice session by hitting the plus in the bottom corner, but also being able to add in previous sessions by holding on the plus. This makes it so I don’t have to stress about forgetting to end the session, because I can always go back in and edit it. I’ve enjoyed seeing my total practice time add up in the past few months too. Their statistic section is super helpful and motivating!

Never using a paper notebook again!
Prior to using Andante, I would dread writing my practice sessions down... I also lost my notebook frequently and was unorganized. Now, I look forward to logging my sessions with only a few taps! **Andante’s mood and focus tracker is very insightful; it helped me select the best time of day (for me) to practice based off my mood and energy level. (I found that I make the most progress in the evening) I can still journal and write down notes - so happy I didn’t lose that feature! Also, the practice streak accumulator is super creative and neat! Conclusion: This app is a MUST for serious musicians who prefer a digital format over paper. I have one recommendation: Consider penalizing people for playing on their phone instead of practicing. There are apps (like Forest and Flora) that notify/buzz if you leave the app (as well as kill the tree you’re “growing” while studying). I realize it’s a bit different with music, but there’s so much room for creativity here!

This Was Luck
I was trying the Soundbrenner Core 2 in order to track my progress with the guitar. It was just disappointing and awful. I looked for an app that could help me with that so I could just return that other thing and came across Andante. It’s easy to use, does everything the Core 2 allegedly does —except for the vibrating metronome– and does it flawlessly. It is motivating, it has all I need (practice sessions tracker, metronome, timer, and tuner) and it’s not a hassle. I’m happy I came across this app and I recommend everyone who wants to seriously get to work with a music instrument to use it. That 😊🎶

Nice!
Heard about the app from cameronbsingin on a different famous app. It's definitely going to help me with meeting my new practice goals, and I'm super excited to see my streak and mood tracker grow as I move forward. One thing I really really would like to see - and I'm not sure exactly how this would look - is maybe a checklist feature where you can input warm-ups or technical studies and check them off your list during practice session. I guess the same thing could apply to listing pieces you want to study (e.g. "text for Lied", "melody for Lied"). Just upgraded. Super excited to keep using this!

Excellent App Missing One Thing
I love this app. I use it daily and it is a great way to track my practice sessions. The built in metronome and recording are fantastic. The only thing it is missing is a way to create a practice plan for the week that I can copy over day to day automatically. I end up making a note entry and manually copying and pasting it into my daily notes adding additional comments as needed. It would be great if that could be set up to carry over automatically. That would be the cherry on top of one of my favorite music apps.

Beautiful, intuitive, and effective.
Love the stats and the visuals. Would give it five stars if it had a full featured metronome. I wish I could move around (customize the position) of the widgets on the dashboard so I can move up my favorites. Also, if the metronome were more sophisticated, this app is all I would need. As it is, the metronome is too basic. There’s a strange bug that says, “your session was interrupted.” This is probably because I have to run the app in the background while I use my preferred metronome app. Great app, I hope the developers keep working on it.

Simple, Clean, Effective - More Stat Options Please
Love this app! Great design. I play guitar and banjo and love the ability to easily switch between recording practice sessions. A couple of requests: more options to filter stats. I can see all time practice hours, yearly, last 7 days. Can’t see last years totals. This would be helpful. I’m fact I’d love to see a custom option for any date range I choose. If only one wish, that’s it. Built in tuner and metronome would be nice. I’d pay for an in app purchase to get these options. Thanks and excellent work!

Best practice app I’ve ever used!!
I play the violin, and this is the best violin app I’ve ever used! I totally recommend it.:) it has a tuner, timer ( and the timer tells you when you’ll get done so let’s say I start at 11:20 am. It will tell me I’ll get done at 12:20am if I set it for an hour), a metronome, and a recorder! It even saved all of your sessions and the days you’ve practiced!!!! You also put in your focus from 1-5 and the same with your mood! Thank you editors and makers who took the time to make such a awesome app! -paisley

So close to being perfect!
This app is absolutely amazing! It has really helped me keep track of my practicing and allows me to see a visual of what my practicing is like through the months. 3 changes I would make is to be able to pause a practice session, sometimes when I’m taking notes for a practice session, it doesn’t record all of them, and I play both piccolo, soprano flute, and alto, but there’s only one flute icon, so I can’t tell the difference between any of the records when looking at all of them unless I label them. I think that’s what’s keeping it from being a 5/5 for me.

Great practice tool
It’s been difficult to find a good practice journal, and I’ve spent money on several apps. I really like this app for the ease of starting a practice session, making some notes, and seeing some basic data for analysis. Could you add a deeper level of organization for specific pieces and movements so that way we can track how we practiced specific movements and pieces? I know we can use “profiles” for separate pieces, but that feels a bit messy. Thank you for your work putting this app together!

Absolutely Fantastic App
Im currently a freshman music education major with ADHD and have been struggling with practicing consistently all my life. I’d find it hard to sit down and do technique exercises for more than 10 minutes, but this app has really helped me stay consistent with my practicing. It also helps that I’m able to write in a journal entry to track what I do each day and at what tempos so I can bump the difficulty up the next day! I highly recommend this app if you struggle with staying consistent in your practice!

Wow! First day using the app and I am MORE than impressed
Some suggestions though first - I’d like to be able to pause when I am timing while practicing, just in case I have to pee or eat or something, so I don’t have to make a whole another practice block. - I’d like to be able to maybe sort practice sessions into different colors or groups so I can look at which skill on my instrument I use the most, for example, on my guitar I practice different things, like for one practice session I’ll be doing chords, and then another picking, or so on, and I’d like to be able to sort practice sessions by activity because that would be interesting to see! And now that I’m done with the suggestions, I’d give this app 10 stars if possible! This app is amazing and deserves much more credit! It’s simple to use! I bought the pro version as soon as I explored the app!

4.5 stars!
The app is minimalist, has (almost) all the features I needed, and works great. There aren’t ads which I really appreciated, but I bought Pro anyways. The only thing that I would change is the way profiles work. I play multiple instruments, so I need quite a few profiles, but I think it would be really cool if there was a way to see all of those profiles together. If the home page showed you all of your practice sessions together and then gave you the option to filter by instrument, I would 100% give this app 5 stars. Great job!

Simplifies practice tracking
Overall a great app. Only a couple small complaints. One is that if you want to add on extra practice time you didn’t track, you can’t edit the session length until after you save it. Also, the stats ought to let you see the previous month/year, etc., not just calendar months/years—the “this month” feature isn’t very helpful if it’s the first of the month. On the whole, though, this app has streamlined my ability to keep records of my practice and I would recommend it.

One of My Most Essential Practice Tools
I've been using this app for over two years, and as a data nerd I like being able to keep track of my time and adjust how much more or less I need to work on different pieces, etudes, fundamentals, etc. It keeps me honest for how much I've practiced and is the app I use most as a musician behind forScore! I highly recommend it and suggest supporting Miles Vinson by buying the Pro features (thank you for making it a one-time purchase!!!!)

Just what I needed!
I’ve been expanding my piano repertoire and playing very often so this app is just perfect in helping me organize my practice sessions. I especially love that the app is so full featured even without the Pro purchase. That said, the Pro purchase adds a lot to the app and it’s just a one-time charge! A few suggestions (even though I think it’s already a 5-star app): a Take A Rest alert, and the ability to track individual songs/exercises/techniques over time. Great app!

This app is so motivating!
I love this app so much and I love tracking practice with it. I find myself practicing more and I accomplish goals quicker. I would love it if there could be an update to the stats section that could show the day you’ve practiced the most time. If there could be some “friending” update, where you could add others who use the app and see how much they have practiced, it would improve the app greatly. Overall, this app is perfect for musicians and I will use it as long as I can.

Just what I needed!
Simple and elegant app that does just what it needs to do and doesn’t have any unnecessary bells and whistles. The graphic layout of the app is beautiful and simple and the whole thing is just a joy to use and has made a huge difference in my practicing and keeping myself accountable. The practice journal is also very helpful. Basically anything that a musician might need is anticipated and taken care of. The only thing I’d want in such an app that isn’t implemented would be a repertoire list. A musician with a large repertoire may want to keep a list of pieces, and for each piece, list where it was last performed, how performance-ready it is, and so on. Also, it would be nice if the developer could add a way to change the color of the app - just in case someone is not fond of the default color. But really, suggestions aside, this is a great app and I am very happy I found it.

Whole Lotta Lugs
I’ve been drumming for just over one year now (since Sept 2022) and discovered this app about 1.5 months into my drumming journey. I’m a busy mum of three homeschooled kids who also play instruments and this app is awesome! Perfect App For Musicians
This app is literally gold. ‘As a new iPad user and starting my undergraduate degree in music I love how you can seamlessly integrate tracking your practice into your iPad! My favorite part of this app is the andante widget where you can see right from your Home Screen your practice time with little circles. It allows you to stream line your practice and adds a visual to your practice routines. The designs and simplicity of the app are so amazing and not cluttered! The one thing I wish you could do is for the rings to represent user input of their practice time goals and track your own individual practice via your set goal. But it is a perfect app otherwise! I recently upgraded to the pro version because its that good (coming from someone who only downloads free apps)

Love it! Wish there were themes…
Love this app, great for logging practice and keeping notes. Would love to see themes though where you could choose highlight color of app from the pinkish red to other colors like blue, green, orange, purple, etc. Along with that, it be dope to be able to choose from different icons for the app on the Home Screen. Lots of apps are doing this now and it be awesome to choose from different instruments aside from the standard violin icon like guitar, keyboard, drum, etc. Respective to the instrument you play.

Very well made! I had been searching for an app to help me with my practice. Found other ones not as practical to use or honestly just didn’t have a nice look to them. Andante however is perfect! The flowing I wrote before I was asked to upgrade: I don’t mind paying for an app. Just be upfront about it! I am a professional musician and am constantly looking for ways the streamline my practice time. I’ve used journals and other apps in the past to keep me on track. This app is simple, clean, and gives me the tracking I’m looking for without extra adds and fluff! Other leading practice apps cloud the efficiency of the tool by excluding excess upgrades and social media options. Clean, efficient, and effective is all I have to say!

Been using the app for a couple years now. This is the best practice app on the marketplace! Period. The lifetime premium is well worth it as you can create different profiles for different instruments/interests, as well as write notes for each session. Fantastic concept that is almost perfect
This app is beautiful and fantastically executed except for one quite large yet small issue... the metronome skips when your phone screen turns off, making it almost unusable. It’s extremely frustrating to practice a tough passage only for the metronome to go out of time randomly during practice. Sometimes it just stops entirely. I’d rather the screen stay on the entire session than have the metronome get out of tempo.

Helps me stay on track
There will be periods of time where I forget to log my practice, but when I do it adds a much higher feeling of reward and motivation for my practice time. Being able to record also lets me look back long term at progress I’ve made which has the same result. Definitely the best app there is for musicians who need a little extra structure and motivation.

Great for tracking and journaling
Really like this app, very useful for keeping track of your practice and helps with motivation and the journal feature is really good. The streak and statistics really make me want to practice more often. Couple of features I’d love to have on this is the ability to create playlists of items to practice, I find I often practice the same things for a while so just having them on a list as a reminder of what I’m currently working on would be a nice addition, also saves time naming the session the same thing every time. Also the ability to change and speed up / slow down the playback speed of the recordings would be really helpful. Thank you for the helpful app

Fantastic Practice Tool
I’ve found this app invaluable. I love the features, allowing me to track my mood and focus, along with the all important time being tracked either in real time or after the fact. This tool motivates me to make sure I hit my practice goal every day! Highly recommend this app, and glad to support the app maker!!! Worth every penny to be able to make notes and download the Data!

Perfect for unmotivated players
I don’t normally write reviews for apps but this one is seriously good. I am a rather unmotivated violinist and pianist and this app has helped motivate me to actually practice. There are some premium features but nothing that stops you from using the app. There are no ads. My only issue is that practice reminders are only on premium but that is easily resolved by using the reminders app or an alarm.

Amazing Practice App!
I use this app to log my practice hours on the trumpet. For being a free app with purchasable hotheaded, it’s almost everything I want. I’ve had nothing but great experiences with this app thus far. The only suggestion I’d add would be a pro feature that lets you save practice videos. I’d upgrade for this feature alone! All in all, this app is amazing and I’ll probably be upgrading to the pro version very soon.

Great App
I’m a high school clarinetist who was struggling with motivation to practice. This app has helped keep me accountable and encouraged me to practice. I also really like that the app charts your focus patterns while practicing as actually focusing while practicing is something i really struggle with. The journal feature is also a great way to track what you have practice (if you’re broke and haven’t upgraded to premium yet).

Crashes randomly - Jan. ‘24
Update on previous — the crashes occur only when not connected to internet. I don’t like leaving WiFi turned on when it’s not in use. I don’t see a way to make this app use internal local storage without it crashing. Original review — Used to work very well, now after updating to current version, it crashes randomly when timer running in background. iPad Pro fully updated. Developer seems unresponsive to emails. Should mention I paid for the full version of this no-longer-usable app.
