I’m an amateur animator that creates hand drawn cartoon shorts. Normally I’m hunched over my light box, but had been looking for an app so I could work on projects while I’m out and about. A friend told me about Animatic, and I love this app! I like how the next frame has an imprint of previous drawing for easy animating. I’m unsure if there is a frame limit, but just completed my first cartoon on the app, and used 116 frames, which I think is really good for a free version of the app. Comes with some decent drawing and editing tools as well. Greatly considering purchasing full version!
This is one of my favorite apps for iPad Pro. I love making animations and, when it works, the software is very charming and appealing. However, at this time about 2 out of every 3 animations I create are effected by a bug that causes the some of the frames in the animation to appear incorrectly. Usually they appear as though they are in a previous state. It looks like I selected one or 2 frames and un-did the last several drawing marks. When I select edit the frames look as intended, but when I select done and watch the animation, the frames appear modified. It even exports the .psd files with the frames altered. I have the 6 month paid subscription, which I paid for not for the extra features, but in hopes it would make the bugs go away. I wanted to stick with it and wait for the bugs to be gone, but it is extremely frustrating to spend an hour or 2 on an animation, only to have no way to save or share or view my final animation as it is intended to look. I will not be renewing the paid subscription, and I will likely cease using the app. Which is real bummer. It’s so fun when it works.
I got this because I thought it would be easier to use to animate then my drawing app is because it’s actually meant for animation. It was really hard to use with limited options and confusing interface. You can’t rotate your canvas and it is difficult to zoom in. Most of the pens I would never even use in a regular drawing. Also there were no layers, which are very Important to me as a digital artist. I noticed a lot of glitches too, my frames would just suddenly go back to a previous point in the drawing. The onion skin just wouldn’t work most of the time. Just a lot of things that were frustrating to work with. In all honesty if I knew what this app would be before I bought it I would have just downloaded flippaclip because it has the same if not more features then this.
Hi, I’m a beginner, and used this app to help me make simple, fun animations. I recently began working on an animation, but sometimes it restarts my progress to the last time I worked on the app for the animation. It is very frustrating to have to restart like that, and it has done that multiple times. It also occasionally crashes, and when I get back on it says it randomly quit. This happens almost every time I play, but I do use the go back and go forward buttons a lot, so it may just be me confusing the game. I think this game has a lot of potential, but requires just a little more attention to the glitches and bugs. I hope you acknowledge my review and that it helps you improve this app for future animators like me.
I think this is a great app for beginners, like me, that wanna animate, though, I think it should add a feature to customize the size of the writing tool you’re using. I did find a bug, but I don’t know if it’s the app or it’s just my device, because sometimes when I export it as a gif, it move only a few frames per second and it sometimes even skips some frames, so I would like you to fix that if you can. Overall it’s great, I’d get it.
This app is great with the onion layering and simple tools for quick additions, however the tools are quite limited. If the size and more diverse tools could be altered, a blend tool is my main ask, along with color options being a wheel instead of the set vibrant colors, this app would definitely be a 5. If used along with sketch book, lots of potential for really cool things. I think for 10 dollars it almost isn’t worth it, more of 5 dollar app to me at the moment, but still rivals its competitors to a much higher standard.
As a future movie producer i use this app to do the animatic step in my films. But, like all apps, this one is far from perfect. Real animatic steps use audio, so I have to upload everything i animate to iMovie in order for it to have audio. A real bummer. If you guys at the studio could add an audio feature that would be great, although I know it would cause an uproar within the Gif makers that do not need audio. Also, the phone I use this app on is tiny and zooming in and out is problematic. Plus so, I do not think it zooms in enough, no offense. Thank you!
I was unsure about how easy it was to use this program until I bought it. Right away I was making simple animations and building confidence and a sense of what to do to make drawing less repetitive. Within a couple of hours I had my first project complete and inserted into Final Cut Pro as an intro to a video. That was last night and since then I have complete 4 other animations. Very fun and intuitive.
It's amazing and easy to use I highly recommend this app tbh the only problems I have with it is the not being able to bring work from another app into this one and not being able to change the pen size other than that it's probably the best and only app I would recommend for anyone who wants to animate on an easy to use app that's for probably smart 5 yr olds and normal/average 6 yr olds to professional animators!
I am a new animator, and this app looked simple so I tried it. But the thing is, it’s near impossible to zoom in/out making detail or small drawings very, very difficult. Also, the tools are so hyper-realistic they actually look worse than just using a pencil, and most people including myself use digital for this to make it look better than normal tools, which this fails to do. The tools are extremely limited as well, having less options than you would just using traditional drawing/animation on paper. I would recommend it if your looking for something to painstakingly draw a simple stick figure moving and waste hours of time.
Whether you’re pursuing a career in animation, or doodling for fun, Animatic is truly one of the best apps to use. My friends and I love to draw and we’ve been using Animatic for so long already! I love that you can access the speeds to your animation so you can decide how fast you want it to go. Amazing Work!
I love the app but I feel that it is missing things to make this app perfect. Here a couple things I would love to see. • Being able to add images and changing opacity to trace. • Changing sizes of brushes is a HUGE thing that it needs to make this app perfect. • two finger tap to undo (doesn’t work if it does have it on iPad) • moving layers around seems to not work for me? If I try to move one layer to another side it seems to erase it and there is no way to bring it back. Undo does not bring back the layer that I moved. It’s a great app but its extremely limited and needs these little changes to be able to use this for actual use for projects.
It helped me doing one of my digital story’s assignment thanks for the creator, one of the tools that’s bothers the most is the eraser! Why it doesn’t erase perfectly I have to go through the same line to many time to erase it. Also, it would be nice if they developed Apple Pencil accessibility that would makes more easer and fun. Again thank you for creating this wonderful application.♡
Hello, i love this app for animating, but I’m having trouble downloading the files as a Photoshop link to adobe cloud. When will the animatic link for windows be available? I purchased the upgrade of this app in hopes I’d be able to use the files in photoshop, but not once have i been able to do so. There is no indication prior to buying the upgrade that the option for downloading to windows animation files isn’t available yet. The surprise comes afterwards of purchasing the upgrade.
This app is amazing, and everything about it has been great. Recently, though, I’ve been trying to use it, and it constantly crashes. I log back in to see that it deleted everything I did. I would give this 5 stars, besides this issue. :) I suggest you get this app if you like to animate, because this may be a client sided issue.
The app randomly quits and saves everything except the frame that is being worked on. This is less than a major flaw and more of a minor annoyance now and then. 😐 I love the app’s easy to use interface and my only problem is that there is only free drawing and no lines, shapes or a paint bucket. (Fill tool) (Seriously, a paint bucket would be great!) 😉
This app is the best animation app I have ever seen but some times when you are trying to send a picture with a message it says failed to send message but I love it. It inspires kids to be an artist so if you want to draw this is perfect for every one who likes to draw
I’ve never tried making animated gifs but this app made it easy to learn especially with the tutorials. I wonder if there’s a way to move the frames around into different sequences?
is there any support? the App support link doesn’t work. also, there’s a bad bug in here - when trying to do a simple animation the app keeps deleting multiple frames after trying to cut and paste them onto the end of the strip. why is this happening?? makes it IMPOSSIBLE to finish an animation! Is there some kind of frame limit here?? Please fix, thanks.
Like to make animatics , I’m an an armature animator but please don’t use this !! Was working on a very detailed storyboard scene zoomed in to perfect some details and deleted my work re did it and it crashed and same thing happened again and again!!! D: animatic please fix this glitch I’m sick of working hard and wasting my time . People who operate this on their phone should be able to zoom in due to the smaller screen - dissapointed. Other than this though amazing App!!
Its ok better than other low quality apps but its not worth paying For it doesn't have the basic things that it should have like the Lasso tool and even zoom-in its good if it was free bit if you put it to were you have to pay the app you at least have to have the basic tools please
I have been using Animatic for years to teach kids animation and import their files into iMovie. It is apparently no longer reliable to export animation files to the Photo gallery on the iPad. In a workshop today and troubleshooting afterwards, could not get consistent results. This is a process I have done for years. What makes it really frustrating is that it works sometime.
So far this a great app. I downloaded it a couple of days ago and started using it last night. I’ve made three animatics so far, and I am hoping to use it in a silly little music video I’m working on.
I don’t normally write reviews, but I had to for this app. Constantly crashes, even just by deleting a frame. Frames often times randomnly disappears, whichs means you’ll be losing at least an hour of work very often. Don’t bother making good animations on this app. It’s unusable, and you’ll probably lose your hard work. Save your money and look elsewhere. This app is utter garbage.
My girls (ages 8 and 11) and I were able to create really fun animations within minutes of downloading this app. It’s an “expensive” app but worth it for the ease of use.
I use it to jot down ideas for animation. I use it when I’m feeling silly. But most importantly my daughter uses it to express herself. This is an amazing app. Highly recommend.
i’m teaching myself to animate with this app. it’s the only one that’s worked for me so far! it only took me a couple of minutes to figure things out, and within another few minutes i had made my first decent animation. personally, i like the limited brushes and colors. it keeps things simple. and i cannot be more grateful that the developers have given the free version all the features of the subscription!!! thank you so, so much!
Horrible app, nothing works. Sometimes it will just repeat random frames when it exports that cover other ones so fo make my stop motion I had to take 130 screenshots and use lifelapse. Also sometimes onion skinning doesn’t work. And let me add that if you do something so minimal as delete a frame it decides it doesn’t like that and crashes. I also spent 2 hours redrawing one frame because it kept deleting it. This app is no where near close to worth $10, they should pay me to use it because of how mentally straining the bugs are, especially when it crashes when it feels like it. DO NOT BUY THIS APP Also I would like a refund.
Animatics! It’s a great app where you can create moving, funny cartoons! I tried it out once, and soon became addicted. It lets you zoom in very far to get the upmost detail, and you can even change how fast you want it to go. A bit pricey, however.
When I try to save an animation... it doesn't work .... and doesn't end up saved on anything at all :( but otherwise , I LOVE IT!!!! Edit: Okay! I deleted the app a long while ago, I'm going to get it again! Tyvm for replying it means a lot :D
I understand subscriptions when they rely on the developer maintaining server infrastructure or something, but this is one of those apps that just disables arbitrary useful features (forward onion skinning, duplicating frames) and calls them “Pro.” I’ll be back if you ever offer a buy-it-once option.
I’m the type of person who would just animate for fun and this app is perfect for that I use my fingers too draw the animation and has a onion skin which makes it way easier to animate
This is a great app and it’s great for a beginner animator like me but it’s a little to simple... like it would be cool if you could add audio but I totally recommend it
It’s a good app overall for short animatics or flip book like animation. However, it would make the overall experience better if you added a selection tool so you could lower and raise your drawing on each layer/frame.
I love it, and I use it often. But I wish the colors were much more bold and not a frizzy. It’s hard to color your animation fully without having problems. We’re colors won’t overlap....
I only gave this three stars because of how little it has. It has a handful of colors, all different for different tools, and it makes it really hard to add color. You also cannot change the size of the tools. Another thing to add would be the ability to add photos. I'm the type of digital artist who can't really draw on digital if I'm not tracing a tradition drawing. This is my favorite animation app, because of how easy it is to draw, create and delete projects, and use.
The ability to turn off touch on canvas Adding warping like squash and stretch post sketch (transform tools) The ability to transform rotate and scale images brought in
Every time it crashes it never lets me back on and I spent along time making the animations then when I log back on it kicks me off and never lefts me back on so I deleted it 2 times and I’m very disappointed in that FIX THE PROBLEM
