This is just an incredible game. An experience you won’t forget. I first watched my younger brother play this on his pc from start to finish almost 10 yrs ago. I was so taken with the story and the soundtrack that I remember downloading Zia’s song and playing it on repeat. My brother unfortunately is no longer with us, may he Rest In Peace, but this game is a solid beautiful memory we shared. Now that I randomly thought about this game again and found the app, I’ve played and already beat the game in a couple of days. It’s challenging, and has ways to increase the difficulty, but still so fun that right after I finished, I ran back in to went play it all over again on the “new game plus” version. For me, this game isn’t just beautifully drawn, wonderfully narrated, and fun from beginning to end. I feel emotionally connected to this game after almost a decade of seeing it played for the first time. Bastion forever has my love and respect. To the developers that worked tirelessly to bring this art to us, thank you. You’ve truly created something special, but I’m sure you know that but now. Play the game. You won’t regret it.
I am NOT a gamer. I play puzzle games & room escapes... point & clicks when I can find ‘em. RPG’s, platformers, and really anything that takes any sort of timing, learning “moves”, a trackpad, or boss battles is an Auto-Nope from me. Bastion is different. Yes there are all the elements that usually mean I’ll stink at the game and get frustrated. But Bastion eases you into its world, and the UTTERLY OUTSTANDING music carries you along, and next thing you know, you are engrossed in the story of The Kid. I played with infinite lives at first, got near the end, and restarted the game on regular difficulty. And I’m so glad I did. I don’t want the game to end, but also restarting allowed me to explore more territory that I wasn’t aware was there during my first run. I’d recommend this game to everyone. Even the non-RPG gamers like me. It’s perfect. There are enough options that give it a puzzle-like experience, and the story and that astounding soundtrack will hook point and click fans. In my opinion games do not get much better.
So far I really like this game. Best part is none of the crap free games do with trying to get you to put up $10, $25, $50!!!! just to be able to advance at a reasonable pace. Try it out for a little while for free then decide if you want to pay which you will of course and they know it because it’s awesome!!!!! As far as the game goes good story line so far. Makes you really want to keep playing to find out what happened and how many more people are out there. Game play is pretty easy you don’t have to worry about getting killed constantly unlike games like last day on earth which I liked for a while until it became impossible to get to where you needed to go without spending money and or buying weapons. This game you can play as long as you want with none of that waiting 20 min for a charge to appear. So many games could be great if they would just offer a paid ver. Other aspects I like. This may seem odd but the sound track is really cool. It reminds me exactly of the firefly tv show. Still one of the greatest shows ever made! The way each land area forms as you go is pretty neat graphically and the of course the narration of the story is perfect. Lots of funny little jokes added in if you decide to stupidly run off the side and die or go hack and slash on the fence posts. Definitely worth a try.
I wish more people would read the blog on Supergiant's website explaining why the original app is being delisted. It explains everything. Am I a bit annoyed that I have to pay twice to keep the game, since I’ve switched devices since buying it the first time and I missed the 10th anniversary boat? Of course I am. But it’s not the publisher's fault. It’s an unfortunate reality of the world of business relationships, contractual obligations, and legal standing in technical distribution channels. It’s not a bait-and-switch like other commenters suggest. Frankly I can’t be too upset: I’m happy to think more of my money goes to the people who actually made the game this time around. Bastion, all these years later, is still an incredible game. And, Supergiant's products are more than just games. They’re works of art. Supergiant's art deserves support. It has mine.
I don’t possess the words to properly describe how good this game is. I played it when it was new back in 2011 and loved it then. Found it in iOS while I was bored with no wifi, and playing through it again I am just as blown away with it as I was the . The best part about this is having it on mobile allows it to be played by people who may not come across it normally. It plays just as good on mobile as it did on Xbox back then. Maybe better since screens on phone blow away TVs of the day. Everything: gameplay, sound design, music, dialogue. I can’t recommend this, and other SuperGiant Games enough. They are just amazing.
The gameplay is fun, but the save system is unforgivable
I really enjoyed the gameplay without a doubt But it is honestly aggressively overshadowed by the egregiously bad auto save system Just look online for people having save problems and you will know what I mean. It is EXTREMELY easy to lose hours of progress and tons of people have. The real challenge in the game is making sure you don’t lose progress and waste your time due to it not allowing you to save and the ineptitude present in the implementation of the auto save system. I would normally give one star for such a fatal game ruining error, but the gameplay is fun so I’ll give it one extra star, even if the taste is so bad in my mouth I haven’t wanted to open the game again. For the people being charged twice or being resold the game, don’t be afraid to sail the seven seas and play on PC. If a company is going to screw you over screw them back.
This is honestly one of the best games of all time. The gameplay is great and you can basically set your own challenges as you progress through the story. There is an assortment of weapons to use as well as customizations to them to further suit your gameplay style. The world is beautiful and engaging as it literally builds around you. BUT In my opinion, what makes this game so engaging is the very well voiced narration as it guides you through the game and story. Even more engrossing is the music by Darren Korb. I can not say enough to this man’s contribution to video game music. There are a few songs in game with sung lyrics by both Korb and vocalist Ashley Barrett. While Barrett’s voice is hauntingly beautiful in Bastion, I also want to strongly recommend you check out Supergiant’s game “Transistor” where she shines through the game’s soundtrack, amazingly written and produced by Korb. Honestly, any game by Supergiant Games is a literal journey into a fantastical world and has none have ever disappointed me. If Bastion is your first experience by this developer, you’re in for a wild ride!
I’m leaving a one star review because I bought this game at full price on the App Store several years ago. Played it from start to finish and absolutely loved it. I decided to download the game again and replay it since I have so much free time due to COVID-19. Apparently my purchase a while back just wasn’t enough because the full game is now an in game micro-transaction. I have to buy this game again to replay it? I think not. These guys make wonderful games, but that’s a shady business ethic that’s becoming more and more common from sellers and developers on the App Store. If I buy something once, it should be mine forever. The guys that did Binding of Isaac let me pay $15 for the game and then pulled it from the App Store. Supergiant is doing this crap. Several other apps that I paid for way back in the day are now subscription applications and my $20 here and there doesn’t actually BUY anything. It’s a frustrating truth about developers and distributors and I’m disappointed to see one of my favorite game houses pulling the same stunts. With that said, I’m fed up with it. Either give me my money back for my original purchase or unlock the game that I paid for back then. Great game. Horrible business ethic.
Who gave y’all permission to create such an amazing game?? It’s better then I could imagine, the music, the voice acting, the action…. I know this is an old game but I thought hades was great and now I see where the amazing things about that gave originated from! I’ve seen people talk about this game and review it but there really nothing you can say to justify it. If your on the fence, download it, tell everyone in the house to leave you alone for a hour or 2, grab some good headphones and let the game show you what made me write this review… that’s all I can say
I payed for this game a long time ago, and now I have to do it again because of some in app purchase??? There are also reports that the in-app purchase doesn’t even work! I already paid for this game in the past, I even paid for Transistor, Pyre, and Hades! I’m a long time fan of Super Giant, a loyal customer for years, and so honestly this puts a sour taste in my mouth for an otherwise great company. I’m NOT paying for something I bought twice, let alone for something other people are reporting doesn’t even work! It isn’t about just the money, the concept of paywalling your customers is honestly just disgusting to me, and many people. This is supposed to be how Rovio treats its audience, not Super Giant. Give me back my Bastion game, Super Giant. Stop this paywall of content we already bought. -Super Giant Fan
I’ve played lots mobile games and ports and this is by far one of the best one the controls are smooth and simple the graphics are beautiful and the narration of the story is gripping. The upgrade system and different perks and special moves gives this game some great depth but not to much that it’s daunting. I can honestly say that having not played bastion when it originally came out and finally getting to put time into it it is well worth the $5. If your looking for a good action rpg this is a must try!
I paid the 4.99 one time fee, but the game isn’t let me past that screen it just keeps having me start a new game all over again which I have several times and keep getting stopped at the in app purchase screen. Fix this issue and I’ll change my star rating for the app. Update: They put out a fix and it worked great no more in app screen. Love this game for its simplicity.
Huge bug, can’t play the game I paid for twice, game is unsupported
Would normally rate this game with 5 stars but after previously purchasing the game in years past I was asked to pay for the game again. When I did so I was billed a second time and now am trapped in a restart loop where I can only play the first level of the game over and over. Supergiant doesn’t support this game anymore which is disappointing since they still sell it. Apple support couldn’t help me either - they just deferred to the app developer. Anyway given these circumstances I do not recommend buying this game from the App Store. I also don’t support Supergiant billing people a second time for games they have already purchased - seems shady!
I love this game; and this port is fantastic. However, you cannot menu with the controller like you can in Transistor, nor can you alter controls in-game. Moreover, if you play with a controller the on-screen controls stay visible. Kinda defeats the purpose if you ask me. Bastion is a treat for the senses. Everyone should have this game on some device. But I’m really hoping they improve controller support. Oh, and vibration only functions on the phone. I’ve heard developers can change that; but I haven’t played a single game that proves this.
Bastion is one of the best mobile games out there that actually tells a great story behind its amazing visual art style. Besides the one time purchase to unlock the rest of the game, it doesn’t try to force feed you microtransactions or other pay to win garbage that litters most other mobile games out there. If you enjoyed playing the free portion of the game, definitely get the rest of the game. It’s worth it.
I just finished playing through for the first time. Excellent story, narration and soundtrack. Game options kept me entertained and I never felt like I was grinding for loot or just killing time. I WILL be playing this again and again. Well worth the cost to play. Oh and even better that you just pay ONCE for the game and don’t have to deal with in-app purchases etc. it’s a game like games used to be.
Great game with great music and great gameplay. Narrator has a great voice and helps the story. He really helps world building. Gameplay is fun with variety of weapons and enemies. You can choose 2 weapons of your choice as you go out into the world ruined world to find pieces that will help rebuild. There are also skills and perks you can choose before you go out. Spent many hours playing this game. Highly recommend
Very engrossing gameplay, with perfect blend of action and absorbing story. Beautiful graphics, music, and expert voiceover that adds to gameplay. One star off though for not running on 1st gen iPad mini; would prefer running on mini over iPhone because of poor eyesight. UPDATE: Went into my past purchases and downloaded the previous version distributed by Warner Bros., which runs fine on my 1st gen iPad mini. Curious why the new version doesn't.
Be advised that the in-app purchase for the full game does not work. I personally reached out to Supergiant tech-support, and they were really kind and suggested I request a refund from Apple. Apple refunded me within a day, and super giant also said they would email me when the glitches fixed. Hang in there!
It’s nice that instead of offering the updated version to people who already bought the game before, you’re forcing us to buy it again, or be stuck with the old, barely functional version with no updates. I guess companies can no delist old versions of their apps whenever they want, and demand that their customers purchase it again. What an absolute scam. I will never purchase a game from this company again. And I suggest others do the same: if they got away with it once, they’ll do it again in the future.
This game is amazing! Definitely worth the buy and an amazing title, my only problem is that it tends to be a bit glitchy when the action starts I play on an iPad Pro 2020 and I have tried switching multiple settings but have not been able to stop glitching. But still it is for sure worth the play through
The narration is beautiful in and of itself, and the gameplay is just as challenging or satisfyingly easy as you'd like it to be. There are not only new functional features to uncover as you play through, but the new weapons and features all have rich stories that come along with them.
Utterly incomparable effort by an indie studio that has raised the bar for iOS development. Bastion remains one of the most polished and intuitive titles on the platform, and the post-release support (ie, iOS compatibility updates, bug fixes, etc.) has been second to none. Few (if any) titles measure up to this mobile-friendly gem!
The game is amazing not only that you get to play as the character during your adventures. You hear the narrator as you interact in the game and the narrator is the one that the narrator was that NPC you first meet. So far I like the storyline along with the narration.
I get the game had to be updated for an iOS update and takes work to do it, but it still pisses me off that if I want to replay it, I have to buy it again. Only three stars cause I can’t play it without paying, again. The game is one of the best I’ve ever played. But irkes me, so I’ll take my $ and try a different one.
Just downloaded recently and played a bit. Looks like it doesn't auto-save constantly, and there doesn't seem to be a manual save option, which it weird. When I logged back in a second time it had not saved all of my progress. That will get tiring really soon if it continues to be a thing.
The game is overall really fun but the when using classic controls you cannot change the size of buttons so it makes it kind of annoying to play. Other than that the game is action packed, pretty good story, and good weapons but I feel Transistor is 10x better!
The gameplay of this game is pretty good. And I’d say the graphics are just as good. The only thing bad I have to say about this game is that the whole thing isn’t free. To purchase the full game it is $4.99. So, just be mindful about that and remember that you are only playing a demo.
They switched from buying the game itself, to buying a microtransaction in-app to unlock everything past chapter 1. That’s shady in itself, but I bought the microtransaction and STILL can’t play past chapter 1. Seems they aren’t interested in providing a playable game, but are happy to take money from people anyway. Now I’m waiting for a refund, don’t end up like me. Bastion is a great game but this version simply doesn’t work.
Too many games are played with the sound off in today’s mobile gaming because frankly no one expects much. This game is a masterpiece that is meant to be played with the sound on. A whole. We take on mobile games and sets a high bar. Worth every penny!
Played this game on pc when it first came out and have been scared to come back to it because I was worried it wouldn’t live up to my nostalgia. This version lives up to and exceeds those expectations. Love every moment of this must play game.
This is quite seriously what the quality standard of mobile games should be, solid graphics, no translation errors, great music, amazing controls and most importantly: NO PREDATORY MONEYSUCKING TACTICS LIKE LOOTBOXES. Just a trial version then the option to unlock the full game. I would have paid twice as much for this.
I’m on a 2018 iPad Pro, and either the frame rate is dropping or it’s chugging when loading objects. I owned the “first” version of this game, and don’t mind paying for an upgraded version but this runs way worse then the previous version. Beware, this feels like a cash grab version compared to what it was.
This is some of the coolest audio I’ve ever seen. The narration adapts to the fight scenes, your weapon choices, the monsters, and the story arch. The music fits perfectly. It has an awesome and very unique vibe. I highly recommend it for ARPG fans.
I normally don’t review games but I feel like this is a quality game that deserves one. I’ve had no problems with performance unlike the other reviews I’m using an XR. Only problem I have is that the touch controls are a little clunky, if controller support was added this would be an easy 5 star...
I finished the game. Didn’t play it for a long time. Then i wanted to play again. I needed to pay 5.99 (or was it 4.99)again. Although it saved all my weapons which is dumb because it should save the full game. But its overall fun. I think it SHOULD save the full game if its gonna save my weapons. But like I said its fun.
This game was recommended to me by a friend when it first came out but I never had a chance to play it. After playing and loving Hades I decided to go back and give this a try. Unfortunately it’s just not fun. The controls don’t make any sense, damaging or receiving damage is the same color, switching between weapons is awkward and so on. Maybe it was better on a console, but on mobile it’s not a good game.
The story telling makes easy to understand the only problem is that it might be too dark and since the floor seems to be appearing. It just makes it really hard to see it.
The game itself is as amazing as it ever was but needs a lot of work when it comes to controller support. You can use one sometimes but many actions will require you to put the controller down and touch the screen. There's also no way to remap buttons or a map to see how the controls are mapped in the first place.
I purchased this game back in 2018 under Warner bro’s. Now your telling me that I have to repurchase the game under supergiants. The customer didn’t have anything to do with the politics of your contracts. This is wrong! I don’t care if you gave us a limited time window to purchase the same game supergiants for free. I didn’t know about that and now the limited time window is up and I have to repurchase this game? For shame! You lost a customer supergiants!
I love any game that doesn’t constantly charge you money to stay relevant !! I’ve been looking for old-school games like this to play on my phone while waiting for this and that. 👍🖖👍
I’m only five minutes in and WoW!!! Already purchased full version. No words can adequately describe how masterful of a gem this is!! And sounds like Morgan Freeman’s much cooler younger brother narrating is a bonus. Everyone should experience this gâme I Love it!!!
I bought this game back when it was $9.99 several years ago. Deleted it off my phone to make some space, and now when I re-download it, it wants to charge me the new $4.99 in app purchase. Is there anyway I can restore my purchase?
If you liked the Xbox version you’ll love this version of the game even more. Not only is the story telling good but the game play is balanced and engaging. The narrator does an excellent job of delivering witty one liners. I loved every second of this game.
Bought this app for $5. Now they removed it and made this new one which is pretty much identical except they’re recharging people who already bought it. They’re only removing the old app so people are forced to rebuy if they want to play! That should be illegal!! I will never support this dev again!!. I will make it a point to bring this example up to people when ever we are talking about bad game devs.
I loved this game years ago - the narrator really is something unique. Controls are great, quality is stellar. Very nice of the devs to let us migrate from the old to the new version for free. Here’s hoping to see their new games come to iOS as well!
I’m trying to play on iOS 13 with an Xbox controller and finding it difficult - there’s an onscreen button to initiate my hammer spin, but I have found no corresponding gamepad button. It also feels strange to have B attack with current weapon and Y toggle between two weapons instead of having B attack melee and Y attack ranged.
I first played in on Pc although it’s clear thought was put into the mobile version as well it is the full game after paying for it and it’s just as good as the first
