I just paid for this thinking I can enable my home feed and disable the explore page but it doesn’t work . You can only disable both or just the home feed. Idk if they give refunds .
Another one bites the dust. The shift from a lifetime service model to a subscription-based app is becoming an increasingly frustrating trend among companies and app developers. A quick search in the #BlockIt’s reviews will reveal many customers that feel alienated by unanticipated and unprompted change. We were initially drawn to the app for its promise of a one-time purchase and now face unexpected ongoing costs. The developer forced everyone’s hand by pushing the change via an automatic update. It is genuinely surprising how this is not against Apple’s terms and conditions. #BlockIt’s developer’s choice is unfortunate because it has certainly resulted in lost revenue from good reviews and word-of-mouth recommendations. Instead of fostering long-term loyalty, they have instead chosen to damage their reputations and eroding the trust of their customer base—all for a few bucks. Just think of all the high praises and recommendations from those who paid the initial lifetime fee, if the developer would have simply honored their end. I like many will not being resubscribing. The issues and errors blocking certain areas of webpages like Instagram and Reddit was acceptable under a lifetime fee—but unacceptable under a subscription. On to the next.
This app does exactly what it says it will do. Make sure you fully understand what it does. It does not block apps or anything about apps so if you are having issues with social media addiction step number one is to uninstall the apps from your phone. Step number two is to install this app so that when you inevitably go to the site, the feed is blocked. I like that I can still participate in a couple of Facebook groups, check events and sell stuff on marketplace without getting sucked in. Great app, does what it says perfectly and what it does is exactly what I needed!
#blockit it one of those rare gems you find that changes everything. As soon as I started using it and deleted the feeds and suggested content from my social media apps I realized something: I had never wanted to scroll in the first place. So there was nothing to recover from by going cold turkey with no scrolling, I just started using the apps as tools again, to look something up, to respond to a friend's message, and then I leave and go on with my day.
Great App/Extension Needs an update for Threads though
This has been a great app to curtail my doom scrolling on social media. Sufficiently blocks out the damaging algorithm based content and I can go to just those pages that I want to look at. The only update I would recommend is threads. Especially gutting the “for you” section. After the Israeli Palestinian conflict on October 7th my Threads feed took a dark turn and would love to block that.
Hopefully Apple will allow Google to enable iPhone extensions on Chrome like it does for Safari, but until then this app is perfect for what it advertises. If you’re upset that it doesn’t work on apps too, that’s on Apple, not the developers. Great work y’all. Love the warning about uninstalling the app if it’s installed.
I have been a long-time user and really appreciate the utility of this app to reduce distractions while still being able to interact on social media. I previously paid to unlock the app, but understand that the developer needs an income to make updates worthwhile. The $3-4 a year is totally worthwhile and justified in my opinion.
I’ve searched far and wide for an app that blocks specific things in on media site for safari. Thank you for the app. For those looking to get this, developers cannot make these compatible with apps, so don’t expect that. This is mostly apples fault. If you are looking for a safari extension, this is it.
Lots of feed blockers come and go, but this one is still working great in 2024. Only one thing to mention, and maybe it’s not fixable or an ultra low priority. Blocking the “explore” feed on Instagram works, but I also have iPhone se 1 generations, that only go up to iOS 15.8. This is the one aspect of the block that doesn’t work for them.
I bought this for Instagram. So I paid to get Instagram and after that it said not compatible with the app. I then logged into my safari to give it a fair try even though that was pretty shady to not be up front with the limitations. Well, IG stories don’t flow right on Safari the way they are designed on the app. I simply wanted to hide my explore page, which I’ve been able to do. But overall the app is a total waste because it doesn’t have app functionality. Don’t waste your $, and cheap as it sounds, I actually want my $1 back because it annoyed me so much.
I love this app as it works exactly as advertised. Mine has a little bug on Facebook, but I trust they will have it fixed ASAP because some of the other reviews suggest bugs happen occasionally, but they get on it. Overall, great app and it seems like there is a great team behind it.
I’ve waiting for an app to do this since Feedless was removed from the App Store. This actually works better and has better features. Highly recommend if you’re trying to reduce your consumption of social media, keep your sanity, and stop binging scrolling during this dam quarantine...do yourself a favor and download this app
This is the first fully functional distraction-limiting app for social media apps that enables you to continue direct messaging people without getting sucked into the feed. Now I just hope I can restrain myself from reinstalling the real apps.
I'm disappointed to discover you've switched to subscription model for all functionality. I understand the reasoning, unfortunately, but it's left me in a bit of a lurch around finals time. Still, the rates are quite reasonable and, again, I respect that this is more on the social media sites being jerks than on the app creator. Thank you for not discontinuing altogether.
SO excited about being able to block junk on Instagram. Was working excellently but suddenly I’ve been “restricted” from my instagram account. Really hope I can use this, Blockit can you help??
Just updated my app and saw the developer changed from a one time purchase model to requiring a lifetime subscription. While this app is a good idea, there are other apps on the store which do the same thing for less than this app is now charging you for a year of use. Please stop with the mandatory subscription models 🙏. I’m moving to a cheaper option
This app has helped me so much with my internet addiction. It’s literally a life changer. I can’t thank you enough for making this safari extension. The world needs more app developers like you.
🥊🥊🥊🥊PROTECT YOUT COIN🥊🥊🥊🥊 Basically it is ok, at blocking aps. BUT if u try to unblock sites that you blocked IT WILL MAKE U PAY TO UNBLOCK THEM!!!!!!!!! MANY DOLLARS!!!!!! Not fun NOR fresh. Basically, you need to delete it from your entire phone and then ALSO go into your web browser settings and turn off its access to your phone after you delete it. Then it takes a few hours to a day to reboot. If u get, don’t pay to unblock ads. Thank you✌️
I’ve used this service and has been a huge help with my productivity and be less distracted. It was a simple pay once and use it. However it seems the developers decides to jump on the subscription bandwagon, revoking my license and hit me with a paywall. I refuse to pay anymore, especially how my access is taken away, and was begged to pay more. I will look elsewhere unless this decision has been looked at. I haven’t forgotten back when apps was pay once and is yours ordeal, sadly ever since the wave of subscriptions, this is starting to make the AppStore less usable and more predatory. Please reconsider.
I downloaded it because they said it’s free but they meant “free” as in it has no features until AFTER you pay. Then it turns out it doesn’t even work as advertised. Of course I can’t get a refund but I can come on here and hopefully stop at least one person from getting ripped off.
I downloaded the app, but can’t block any of the websites. The toggle buttons just stay grayed out when I touch them. All of the apps (facebook, instagram, etc) that should be blocked on safari are all still fully accessible.
This is exactly what I needed! This may sound absurd but I’m addicted to playing 4-player chess at chess.com and I was getting so behind on my Uni studies. I kept telling myself, “just one more game…” I have never been the type with an addictive personality. So to find myself addicted to this one game was frustrating! I would like to suggest a scheduling feature? I’m going to see if I can create a workaround by using iOS “Screen Time.” Maybe I can control which times of the day this app will function and when it will not so that I can allow myself an hour or two in the afternoon or late evening or something? I still want to enjoy the game but I need help limiting my time. Thanks again for creating the app! I don’t really need any of the paid features but I may purchase one anyway just to support the developer.
This app only works on the websites. So you can use it with safari. Since using this app I have saved so much time one my phone. I block YouTube shorts, home feed and even comments sometimes. I love that it’s just a one time payment and not a subscription thing. Thank you for creating a tool that helps other’s spend less time on social media. You are appreciated! This is what my generation needs!
I was suffering from screen addiction and I was constantly on YouTube. This app helped me to block YouTube and Facebook. Works well. Thanks a lot developers!
This app helped me quit my out of hand YouTube addiction! It’s also helpful in blocking my access to Instagram. I love this app! Definitely here to stay 🤝. Thank you to the developer!
This app was pivotal in allowing me to finally delete Instagram and Facebook, and also not slip down YouTube rabbit holes without realizing. I’ve deleted all social media apps from my phone, block accessing the websites on my phone using Freedom, then use #blockit on Safari for iOS and Mac to block any feeds from YouTube, Reddit etc. Also helps block comment sections as well so you can come to your own opinions without reading everyone else’s first. Great app keep up the good work!
This app doesn’t work on the actual iPhone apps. It only filters stuff through the social media websites on safari. It does not impact the Instagram app, the Facebook app, the YouTube app, etc. themselves.
This works so well. I paid $0.99 for blocking youtube but honestly I think this worth WAY more for my youtube addiction. If you are having hard time quitting youtube, highly suggested. 유트브 중독이 너무 심해서 몇달을 찾고 찾다가 이 앱을 찾게 되었는데 진짜 좋아요. 천원주고 사기 미안할 정도...
This app is the best and most simple to use distraction limiting platform. I like that I can see my notifications and still post statuses. It also doesn’t use VPN like other apps. The newsfeed loading for a second and then going blank is the most comforting feeling. I get the relief of typing in facebook.com without getting distracted by the newsfeed. Fantastic app and I really appreciate the work your team is doing.
