Excellent
When I purchased my membership of course I did not really have plans on ever having to use it but for the money I thought well why not just to be safe(we have 2 boats and a jet ski). However unfortunately we did have to use it very early in the boating season. The customer service and communication from the time I requested a tow via the app on my phone. They dispatch kept me in the loop as far as the ETA as week as the captain I spoke to several times mainly because I have no sense of direction but I was trying to tell him where I was on the water. He was very professional and help keep my calm. He and his wife were very professional on the tow back to the boat ramp. Not to mention they came in on there off day to tow us because there were several requests ahead of us and it was going to be at least an hour and a half before the other captain could get to us. I recommend everyone to purchase a membership if you have any plans on being on the water because you rather be safe than sorry.

A friend in need
Heading in from Catalina to Channel Islands Harbor Marina when 10 miles out we loose our port engine, we let Vessel Assist know our situation and would keep them advised. With the fog and a little rough waters there was a little bit of tension onboard , since we were bringing home a new used boat that we weren’t too familiar with it, we were struggling to keep a straight path with one engine when I turned around and noticed we had Vessel Assist behind us to make sure we got home . Randy, the captain was very calming on the radio and led us into the harbor in the fog and then side Tie us and took us to our dock. Was taking on water
First I had trouble with my password which has to be entered on the App to request a tow (I’m going to write it ink on my card going forward). Then the first dispatcher I talked to could not understand where I was in the world, then could not find any boats because her system was down. After at least five minutes I asked if I should call coast guard instead and she said she was unable to help me so yes. We were able to pump fast enough to stay ahead of it but when we got to our remote island dock I called again. This dispatcher was competent and the skipper he put me in touch with was incredibly helpful. Then I found out my tow would not be covered because it was a hull issue rather than a breakdown. I certainly understand the service much better now, but still surprised that I wasn’t as covered for any eventuality as I thought I was and the initial dispatcher failure was frustrating. Hopefully it was just unlucky timing.

What happened to your customer service?
I have been a member since 1991 and have insured several boats with Boat US Insurance. I have never filed a claim, paid the premiums and have always had good customer service, until you partnered with Geico. I called to get a quote to insure my wife’s boat and what a horrible experience that was. The person we spoke to was less than forthcoming about what the policy covered. Said we have to accept the policy before we could have the details on coverage. That’s ridiculous, what are you hiding? My wife has Unlimited Gold towing with Boat US already but your agent included towing in the quote saying it was better than Unlimited Gold even after we told him several times we already had towing. He questioned both my wife’s and my ability to handle a boat, that’s unacceptable. Apparently captaining a boat with Boat US insurance for the last 33 years isn’t adequate for Boat US/Geico. Our conclusion is you have no interest in providing insurance for her boat and given that I will be looking elsewhere to insure mine.

Great Service End to End
I realize this forum is primarily for App feedback which I feel is solid. I would like to also use it as a forum to provide service feedback. Having been a member since 2016 I recently used BoatUS for the first time. Thankfully not in an emergency situation. It went smoothly from end to end across several logistical variables. Due to water ingestion in my port transmission I reached out to BoatUS for a dock to dock tow. It was a 24NM tow. I contacted BoatUS via the app. Received human contact within 3 rings. (Gold Star). Phone agent was well trained and with just a few questions had me scheduled with my local BoatUS POC Captain Norm. Captain Norm contacted me with 20 mins of my initial call to confirm time/date and boat info. (Gold Star). Capt Norm arrived exactly on time as scheduled. (Gold Star). As the total distance crossed two Ops Areas we were passed to another TowBoatUS Captain (Terry?) with local repor and contact with my destination ship yard. He put us right on the Haul Out dock. We Love This Company
We’ve had them since 2016. They helped us once with a tow when we had an electrical issue, and a battery charge when I did something stupid (aka learning experience). Those two calls more than made up for the premiums. Even if we hadn’t used them, we save more than the premiums on fuel and marina discounts. This is a great app that tracks weather, tides, small craft advisories and hurricanes. If you hit the “request a tow” button your gps pops up on the dispatcher’s screen. Every captain we’ve dealt with has been great - this service is a must for every boater.

Don’t flounder around when things go wrong
Everyone who has a boat and trailer needs a towing service if they travel more than a few miles from home or dock - just like having AAA for your car - being stranded or dead in the water can be hazardous in a boat and needing an on road tow for a boat trailer is not good either - trailers can break down and trucks towing them can too - don’t leave your boat on the side of the road, have it towed - good insurance when things go wrong

GEICO insurance
I was amazed at the outstanding service I received from GEICO on a recent small clam. My prop his something underwater which resulted in a bent prop shaft. GEICO immediately sent an adjuster from 300 miles away. He determined the damage and submitted his report. Within a day the head office called me to see how I wanted the check. All in all the incident happened and within a week it was settled. That’s outstanding customer service

False Call
I called BoatUS for a tow when my boat wouldn’t start. It was the first time I ran since I purchased it. It was late, so I made arrangements to tow it the following day. BoatUS was outstanding. Captain Doug was early, fortunately my boat started up in the morning. It vapor locks in the Florida heat. I canceled the tow. BoatUS was very helpful and just said that if I needed assistance returning to my marina to just call. Highly recommend them. I will be a gold member for as long as I own a boat. Thanks again, Joe T

Weekend Getaway- It’s a Grady Day!
My family left New Bern, NC on a Friday to Oriental NC stay the night and had a blast then Beaufort NC and stayed the night and back at New Bern on Monday. Awesome trip and recommend you do it. This app was right on in regards to the swells - which were 3-5 ft. Tide was accurate and allowed me to time our trip. Reliable app and not to mention when you need their assistant while on the water.... I have not need them - but glad to know they are there!

We have been using Boat US since 2004, it’s a great service to have in case of a emergency unfortunately Allana passed away in October 2017. So even though she is now looking from above she would be happy that I continue to use Boat US knowing I am safe on the water & trailering . The team makes our boating season more enjoyable knowing Boat US will help with a trailering or water breakdown . She loved the water & boating It’s great to have a service like Boat US Thank you.

Capt Chuck, Hudson Beach, FL
Had to get a tow in today from Capt Chuck in the Hudson Beach Area, our initial contact w/ customer service was excellent & then we were told our tow would be 45 minutes away. Then Capt Chuck called told us the same, he arrived early. Capt Chuck was super friendly and explained exactly what he was going to do & what he needed us to do. He towed us in w/ zero issues & brought us back to dock & put us on the dock w/out even the slightest bump. Thank You BoatUS & Thank You Capt Chuck!

EXCELLENT TOW SERVICE
We had to use this service as our engine overheated and we’re in Bimini Bahamas. Our transition was super smooth with just a phone call. Our tow captain Rick Haden was beyond amazing. He was very thorough, on time and came in on his day off (4th of July) to help us out. He was so professional and accommodating. We had a smooth ride back to Miami. Thank you Captain Rick for making the best out of this situation.

What? No gas!!!
I ran out of gas on Logan Martin and called Chad. He was very responsive and sent the rescue boat. Turns out I learned a lesson or two. One; have some gas on board and some oil. The rescue boat had gas but no oil. I was towed to my place since we didn’t want to risk running my 2 stroke w no oil. The captain was extraordinary, friendly and most helpful. My membership is well worth the price and I can’t figure out how any boater doesn’t have it. David Carboni

Needed a tow
This was my first time requiring an emergency tow, but I required a tow after my 42’ sailboat becoming grounded on the weekend. Between calling for assistance and having the BoatUS turn up was only 15 minutes. They conducted the tow, made sure I was good afterwards. Obviously timing depends on other situations happening outside of my little dilemma, but overall impressions of how it was conducted simply re-emphasised to me the benefits of having membership.

Due to health problems I had to stop boating for a few years, but now I am back and will resume my passion. I had been a Boating US tow customer for years and are now anticipating being a customer for many more years. Very weak
Well, BoatUS developers couldn’t decide what exactly should their app was for, insurance sales or useful mariner info, so it came a weak sprinkling of both. The weather portion is the weakest; for example, the link will notify you that there’s a small craft advisory within a large area (like somewhere on Chesapeake Bay) with NOAA zone labels appearing on the map, but no links to those zone forecasts. You can lookup your policy number if you get the urge, but cannot read any details of your coverage.

West Marine and BoatUS can’t sync up membership
Terrible system. West Marine and BoatUS can’t sync up membership. I purchased membership at West Marine and BoatUS can’t find my membership in their system. Horrible app, I made multiple calls to both companies and had to return original purchase and buy it again. Let’s see if they get it right this time.

Renewed membership
I’ve recently renewed my membership after a few years of not owning a boat and now that I’ve got another boat I couldn’t stand the thought of heading out to sea without this amazing service that BoatUS provides! I’ve had the need of being towed in from the local islands twice and both times the service was outstanding. I’ll never be without this great service 👍🏼

Reading about the loss of the “Morning Dew”
This is very sad story about the tragic loss of the sailing vessel the “Morning Dew”. These are not fun stories to read, but they serve a great purpose for us all. I grieve for the families that have lost loved ones so I’ll read and heed these stories so that the loss of those precious lives will not have been in vain. Thanks BoatUS for contributing toward my education.

Thankful
Sailing and fishing on the San Francisco Bay and coastline north to Fort Ross can go from beautiful to dangerous in the same day..... having BoatUS reduces stress especially when it comes to needing non emergency assistance ..... very thankful for the late night town out of the Napa River .... got stuck in the mud just outside the chanel and then killed the battery and couldn’t motor. Great service from a very professional captain out of San Francisco who came across a very rough bay to assist. I tell all my friends to purchase BoatUS towing ..... even my kayak buddies that fish off shore! Member for five or so years.... one tow and lots of use from the app and magazine. Towing Service
Last night we went dead in the water 1200 yards offshore near Everett, WA. No power, no electricity. I immediately called BoatUS for assistance and was told they could be there in “about 3 hours”. They had to come from Tacoma, 55 miles to the South. There was a tow boat in Seattle, 25 miles away but that boat “didn’t have enough fuel to get to us”. A breeze from NW was pushing us towards the U S Navy base so I dropped anchor. USN came out to tell us we were close enough. We managed to find a friend who came out in the dark to tow us in. Better to cultivate friends with boats than to pay for this service.

Unreliable app
More often than not app indicates poor network connection and is of no use. Never had this issue on prior app. When it does work, it is an improvement though. 12/30 a updated to 4.5.1. Tide data no longer available. Have to manually add location now for some reason. Unable to delete it or add others without App requesting a user account. Regret updating at this point. I am a member but really don’t want another app account to manage. Also haven’t had much luck with the associated west marine cards. Gave up after a couple of tries.

No follow through
I’ve been a single hull boat insurance customer for several years. Switched to a small non racing catamaran and all of a sudden you would think I am trying to ensure a space ship or a medical device. No one knows anything about anything and after spending hours on the phone trying to get an insurance policy which I thought would be really straightforward. I waited over the weekend for a follow up and no one ever called and now no one answers the phone. So much for being a boat specialist.

Tow support from dispatcher-horrible
My first use of the tow service- called in at 5:40 pm and was told it would be a 45-min response. After an hour called back to ask for the estimated arrival time. Put on hold and then hung up on- waited 5 minutes for a call back- none. Called again- this time the dispatcher put me in direct contact with the Captain. Captain stated he’d be on site in 10-min and arrived as stated. That was at 7:40pm Upon completing the tow I asked what time he had been dispatched. Dispatch didn’t notify him until 7:20. An hour and 40 minutes after I called. Unacceptable.

Ordered BoatUS today and have attempted to register on the app multiple times. Needless to say, I have been informed that my email is not registered. Yet, my credit card has been charged and I have received a confirmation email from BoatUS. I am now going to head out into the Atlantic with my family, and believe that We are safe with BoatUS? Unimpressed.

I never worry when I am on the water because I know even though I obey the Florida/ Federal laws there is always a chance that something physical, mechanical, or an act of God will happen sooner or later. I know you are a radio call away even though I have never needed you in the six years I have been a member!

Used them twice
Excellent service. Came out right away and towed my son and his friends back to our dock. First time was bad alternator. Still checking this time on why it won't start. But Robert was very professional and personable and took care of the situation.

App is Terrible
This app as never worked well in the 4 years I have had it. Ever time I login it asks me for my location. I enter it on over and over. It has nothing to do with my current location because it knows where I am. I always doesn’t know my insurance no matter how may times I put it in. I keep having to login even when I’m in the app and already logged in. It will no longer show my insurance information either

Boat US first thing I check in the morning!
The very first thing I do BEFORE getting out of bed is to check the Boat US weather for the wave heights. So sometimes I just rollover and sometimes I launch out of the bed as fast as I can!

Very buggy app…
I want to like this app… but it’s a bundle of bugs. You get a banner telling you “missing account information” even though all info is provided. When you set up locations, it dumps them Constantly. And the Marine weather does not work. So that’s three strikes, and you know the rules, three strikes and you’re out!

Magnifying glass not included
A great app with a rather glaring issue. As you focus on a specific stretch of water, the depth numbers remain tiny to the point you can’t read them. Would seem a simple fix to enlarge the depth numerals as you drill down into a more specific section of water. Otherwise, a super tool with that one major issue.

Will not let me add insurance info
Great app , finally fixed the bug that wouldn’t let me create app ID with my boat US membership number. But now doing the same thing when I try to link my insurance info. Says “oops there’s a problem try again. Same thing it did until they fixed the membership issue.

Piece of mind
BoatUS is an amazing organization with a wonderful app. My boat Broke down on the 4th of July while I was in the middle of San Diego Bay. With a few easy taps on my BoatUS app I started to receive texts that help was on the way. Within an hour BoatUS had my boat safety on my trailer. Thank you BoatUS.

Network issues
Before an update it was great. Now, Even WITH updates, the app says network unavailable. No other apps have an issue and I can web surf without problems. Unable to delete it from iCloud and reinstall.

Sign in required, not good in stress situations
For what this app does, it is a shame to have to log in to get to the important feature. Yes there is a setting to keep you logged in, but that only if you do not turn your device off. In a stress situation or emergency, having to remember your log in and password could be a problem, especially if the “Captain” was injured, the crew could not use the app. Not thought out as an emergency use app.

Exceptional Service!!
My family and I had a mechanical issue on the water last night. We called for a tow and after a short wait, SeaTow showed up. The level of professionalism by our tower, Joseph Rogers, was outstanding! Thanks so much for all the help on the water!

I was pleased with the old app without issue I updated to the new app update with weather etc and it was very helpful until the App FROZE UP 3 days ago ! I have rebooted my phone to no avail Any suggestions would be appreciated Thank you

I used this services 2 months ago because my twin motor are stuck of sand then not pee I turn off my motor and I call US Boat so they arrive so quickly and the services are the best 100% I recommended

Unstable app.
This new update is horrible. It will not stay logged in nor will it maintain my menthol information. Needs real work. No need to pay for the service if one can’t request a tow through the app in the first place!!

Great for local conditions
I’ve only had the app (and boat) for a few months but the app weather and tide info has been super helpful. It is the quickest way for me to plan boat trips on the sound or nearshore ocean.

New version keeps restarting
Terrible! Had to update my email, did so on app and had these issues. Called boat us, told me to delete app and reinstall- did so-no change. When I login my membership card is not there but insurance info is? Have to add membership ID, then often get message of session restarted or action requires authorization. This app is now useless to this long time customer

Decent app
UX and user centered design is terrible, linking to website for simple transactional experiences is not good, simplicity and native experiences is king. A mobile app is #1 priority vs web experience for anyone on the water and using a mobile device.

Awesome
I had to get towed last night and the service was great from start to finish. The operator got me the service tow needed and the tow service was friendly and accommodating. Got my 20 ft pontoon right in my dock. I will never be without this service. Excellent job.

Dead battery
Needed a jump as my battery died while anchored and Boat U.S. was there in 25 minutes. Used them before to tow my boat from my marina to a ramp and same response time!

Useful App But Forgets Login
BoatUS app is very useful for planning trips using tide, wave, and weather data. However, it keeps forgetting my login info so I have to keep logging back in to use it. It's so annoying because other apps don't repeatedly want your login info, but the morons who wrote this app do!

Insurance Info has n App
The only negative I’ve experienced on your app is that my current insurance info. through Boat US/Geoco won’t update. I even uninstalled the app and reinstalled as suggested. All insurance companies have mobile access to their policy info. This needs to be fixed!
