Picture scan looks like a black and white photocopy and not a very good one. Requires very steady hands to execute in auto mode or you can take it manually. Zoom out so the whole board is visible otherwise if it captures just the screen; the image is cropped at the edges too tight. The edit mode is a simple black pen or yellow highlighter. An erase feature was the first thing I looked for but it’s not available. It makes sense to have that option because it’s not possible to erase one thing on the board so I’d like to at least be able to erase in the app. I may use it but not sure it’ll last for long. I hope they improve it.
The speed and simplicity of both the product and the app is wonderful. The interface with my iPhone XS max is delightful. I love to try out the latest electronics and computers and often spend quite a lot of money on things that have tons of features. What I especially like about this product is that I can keep this in my glove box so that when I’m running around I don’t have to take my iPhone or my iPad or any other expensive devices. When I want to jot down a note I just open it up right the note close it put it back in the glove box. There is no lag time to Boot it up Or to worry about recharging it. Given the very very low price point I’m going to give this out his gifts to friends of mine who will love it. I’ve only had it a couple of hours but I can see using it quite frequently for simple notetaking.
If it takes longer than five seconds to scan with the Jott that is black in front of a white background, then what's the point of having magnets on the back or holding it up. I waited one minute with no autoscan recognizing. I pressed the manual button and got the ugliest skin I've ever seen. It's faster to tap the photo button on your iPhone and take a picture. For $19 that I bought it for a Cosco, it's only good for having at the family breakfast when arguing over howto arrange or fix something at work or for having it around by the nightstand or in your car instead of throwing out paper. I will take a picture if it something I need to save. If it's something important after Jotting down my initial note, I will actually use pen and paper. You get what you pay for and for $19 this is exactly what it is – just something to jot down that you would normally throughout after. Don't plan on giving it to an artist to draw their next masterpiece and try to scan. I'm sure this will improve in the future, the app that is.
Ok first, the app has not been updated in 11 months, if you have been getting feedback about how bad the app is then your company is one of the two, either you just want the quick money and don't care about the customer after the sale or your app team(if you have one) clearly don't know what they are doing. It won't scan my pad, I have 2 of the black with blue trim and my kids have to manually take the picture. Once you take the picture, your only options is to crop, rescan, save or share, how about a button to "Cancel". Also a color option would be nice. I know that they were only $20 each but I would be willing to pay more if it had Bluetooth so you could transfer to and from phone, or even a SD slot to save their drawings. I know this is a review for the app but if the product is not updated there may not be much to enhance on the app. A light glow feature on the tablet for when in low light would be cool.
The disappointment here comes from the actual results differing from advertised images. The advertisements look like the saved PDFs from the old boogie board sync. They are clean white with black. This app takes a photo more like a phone scanner and ends up being speckled like a photocopy of a photocopy. The board reflects light from the ceiling, and the phone will whiteout writing that is obscured by the reflection. If I try to angle the board, the app complains about contrast because the background is not uniform. So that makes recording take twice as long. Saving a sheet takes 7 seconds working flawlessly and 20 seconds with hiccups. Both are significant compared to a notebook or the older sync product.
These pads are a great way for my kids to learn how to write their ABC's on paper without me having to go and buy all this paper but this could be a wonderful tool for all ages! If the costomers were able to link their pads to the mobile app on thier phone instead of having to scan their boogie board everytime they want to save or share something then the pad would be easier and faster to use. It would make things such as; taking notes for all ages (to share and/or save) and sharing information to family members a lot faster and would help to save money. You would also get a lot more customers, just to put that out there...
I had no problem using the app. Scanned quickly and worked as app said it would. Go through the into as it asks you for permissions during. Only problem I can see is that that my scanned text was somewhat unreadable (little blurry). Once on a contrasting background, it took only seconds to scan. It was then ready to be edited. I used the extra stylus to do this, but fingernail worked just fine. Had no problems like the one stated in the other reviews. It's a fairly new app.
This could have been a nice spot to store all my notes but there were so many issues. I could never get it to scan the whole thing. With would always cut off half my picture. I didn’t like how it saves to my photos on my phone. The point of me getting it was I didn’t want to add more data to my photos but wanted to save my notes but then this just saved a copy to my photos. Why. Lastly the pictures didn’t always come out very well at all. And when they were good they definitely didn’t look like the examples shown here. Over all a good waist.
I love the idea of the Jot boogie board but it's very difficult for it to scan my boogie board if it's on my fridge. I always have to move it and set it on a different surface so that it can detect it. My board is black and my fridge is white so it shouldn't have any problem reading it but it always does. Also when it scans, the words are very fuzzy and it would be nice if it could clean these up a bit. Also it would be nice if you could cross out the list and choose a different color besides black. My list tends to get lost with all the black lines.
For the actual great idea of this product and use ability
It’s a shame that this company didn’t invest in better IT and applications Programers . The application can definitely use some much needed updating! GUYS A YEAR AGO ON YOUR UPDATE! Keep up the rest of the similar companies that have the same or similar products now. They update frequently!!! Your website is significantly more expensive then stores big box and smaller stores. I was very surprised. Simply the app is horrible and doesn’t offer anything really other then taking a photo and editing. I don’t need your app for this
Better use the Genius Scan or a similar app. This app gives no credit to the excellent camera in your iPhone. The scan quality is miserable to say the least - lots of noise in the resulting pics. You have to place the Jot on a surface with a good contrast before the app even recognizes is. Still it takes a while to complete a simple scan. You cannot edit the pics right after scanning - you have to first save them, then re-open to edit. Skip this app and get a regular scan app - the only disadvantage will be that you might have
This is the only app I installed on my phone with ratings lower than 4. Having said that, I purchased the board from Costco, my first few attempts of scan isn't successful until I put it on white marble desk in the bathroom. It needs a contrasty background under it to recognize the border of the board. Then it converts the image to black and white instantly. This is the way it should work, albeit limited yet when I operating within the spec isn't too shabby.
Boogie board is my favorite list management tool right now
I received a boogie board for Christmas. And here it is,the beginning of February, and I just got around to figuring out how to use it and download the app. Sorry I waited so long. It's become my top list management tool at home and in the car. The app is a snap as long as you have something white to put the board on before you scan. That white requirements is why I'm giving it a four star rather than a five star rating.
Easy to use but the outcome after scanning isn’t great. I would like to see improvement to app otherwise I may as well just take a picture of boogie board and edit in any other app. Update: after a month or so, suddenly the app is crashing whenever I go to scan mode. Not sure why it is doing this now but altogether it is pointless to have if it won’t work. I’m afraid to uninstall because if I do then I lose all current scans saved in app - not something I am willing to do.
Don't know why all of the negative reviews but it works very well for me. I did have to put it on a white background to get it to scan properly, but that's not a big problem. If you don't have something white handy then click the manual scan button and scan it manually big deal. It's always available, I don't have to search around for a piece of scrap paper which I will probably lose, so it serves it's purpose.
I don't plan using the auto scan. Use the manual scan. To clarify, this isn't much of an "advanced scanning" as it is just taking a picture of your drawing, so don't expect super high quality. It's nice enough though and I really love the Boogie Board itself so no loss. Tip: for the contrasting background find something very white, get close to the board (as close as possible without cutting image off), and take a manual photo. That works for me!
I absolutely don’t understand why this app has 2.2 stars ⭐️⭐️ because it deserves 5! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I don’t see any problems and sometimes ill even trick my friends that I drew the picture I took! You can do that by pointing the camera at something besides the board and it will make it look like a drawing. I don’t see anything wrong with this app and I’d definitely recommend it. ❤️ ❤️❤️❤️
I purchased the jot 8.5 thinking it had the auto save feature.... it does not! While the writing is clear. You have to take a photo of the writing in order to save it. It won’t even allow the auto snap for the photos. Then my jot app will preview the photos but won’t load them for editing. This is not what I thought I was purchasing based on the information portrayed on the box. If you are looking for a quick add, syncing, quick note ewriter... this is not the one.
I definitely love the idea of this pad just wish you could change the color settings once scanned. I love this because when I’m trying to make out a list I would much rather write with pen and paper and be able to add to my phone. I would rate this higher if I had the option for multiple settings as far as looks go. It would be easier to read with black background and white/or different colored lettering.
After testing it out for a few days. There are some suggested adjustments in order to improve other users' experience. First, the words do not come out as clear as expected. It might appeared fuzzy and very hard to read once scanned. Second, the highlight and editing could not be saved.. which defeats the purpose of editing right? Further, there should be more videos or instruction on how to properly scan the board for best result. Thank you.
I got a blue border device, and it wanted contrast. After reading about a red border working, I decided to experiment. The advantage of this being photo based is that I was able to pull out LAST YEAR'S board to experiment with. I colored the border silver W/ Sharpie and IT WORKED (cut off edges, but it is shaped different from new model). If you want clear text you have to hold !!REALLY!! still while it takes picture. Editing with color would be a HUGE improvement. Hoping to see upgrades!
I gave it three stars because it at least gives me a place to store the pictures in the same place. It doesn't SCAN the device for the writing that you want to save, you use the app to take a black and white photo of it. You can edit it, true, but this app is just bare bones. I guess, from the description on the Boogie Board, I was expecting that somehow the app would connect to the board and import the screenshots.
Overall not a bad concept. I really wish it didn't save to your photos, though. Takes up unnecessary space. I understand needing to use the camera, they just need to figure out how to not have to use photos to store images. Also, if you delete from your photos, it deletes from the app. Bad move app creators. Otherwise the concept is a good one since the device itself isn't capable of saving anything.
The instructions are terrible because there aren't any available! The "user manual" only tells you how to care for the device or change the battery, but it does not actually tell you how to use it. Moreover, the website fails to provide clear instructions. So...here is what you need to know: 1. Download the JOT app onto your phone. 2. Use the app to take a picture of your BoogieBoard notes scribbled on the BoogieBoard surface. 3. The app lets you Share, Rescan, or Save the picture. 4. If you save, then You may edit saved pages with a digital pencil or highlighter (by using your finger on the screen). Boom! You're welcome. The device is handy for random notes and good for environmentalist who don't want to waste paper. The BoogieBoard is a good digital note pad.
I just bought this for myself and others. At first I couldn't get it to scan. Make sure the case cover is wrapped around the board and not open like a book. Place on a light surface (the lighter the better) and scans quick. I would give this a higher rating if it wasn't so picky to be able to scan. Now that I have it figured out I love it!!
I understand this product is a little over $20 after tax but the least you could do is to make updates to have the camera capture better. This is also not the first complaint and if you were developers intending to keep your consumers you might want to put forth the effort to make changes and fix bugs. Please and thank you.
I have a Blackboard already. I bought the Jot to have something else to use during the day while I keep my day planner on the Blackboard. I love both of them. Just got the Jot 5 minutes ago, unwrapped it, downloaded the app and it works like a charm. Who needs actual paper? I don’t anymore.
Great idea. I was so excited about saving paper. We bought two from Costco. My son uses his for all his love of drawing. I wanted a place for my lists. Scan is almost impossible. Plus it turns off after a while and the list is gone. Kind of useless for a list. Can't review about working on the scanned documents because it is a booger to scan. I will be returning the one I was going to keep. My son, age 9 loves his.
Useless without Bluetooth or a removable micro sd card! The app is literally useless. It says it needs camera and photo access. But it will only allow me to allow camera access, NOT photo access! It won't go past that screen even! It's 2016, chuck some Bluetooth in your crappy products! Also, add some instructions that tell how to use it, not just change the battery and add the stupid dust cover. Taking my two I just bought today back tomorrow and deleting the app. I'll just stick to my dry erase board and my iPhone camera!
Like the idea but still needs some improvements- when I edit on my phone then check it as done nothing happens. Won't save as a page until I press x but then deletes all my editing. Annoying- but I'll keep it. Can only get better with each update, right? Also definitely must scan with boogie board on white and with some light!
I haven't had a major issue with this app. Only thing would be the option to select a picture from the camera roll. Sometimes it is just quicker to open the camera app when writing a lot of text than having to open this app right away. Then I would just need to import the pictures and have the app process them. THAT would get 5 stars.
I love this app and it’s handy when I need to jot things down really quick and take notes. But I had some notes down and they all got erased when I didn’t do it. It’s a good thing I didn’t have many but I already deleted the photos from my phone cause I thought it would save on the app. I do really like the app though
This app is the worst app you could ever download. It doesn’t recognize the boogie board even when it is right in front of the camera. It also takes up a lot of space for only one feature. It is better to take a picture of the board than to wait five minutes for the app to scan it. The scanned picture from the app is also super blurry, smart phones now a days have the feature for you to write over the picture. This app is Terrible!!!!!!!!!!👎🏻👎🏻🚫
Initially readying the advertising just briefly I thought how cool and they even have an app to transfer the drawings back and forth to my phone. Well my toddlers doodle board does pretty much the same just without using any battery. There are plenty free scanning apps so what's the hipe? Don't get it??? Ahhh, you need to buy the Sync version which is >$100. Sounds like false advertising or tricking advertising to me. Well, you got me...will use it as a toy for my toddler. Don't expect it to last more than a week with some rough usage :)
So, this app is great. I like being able to save all of my drawings onto this app. Just one problem: when I scan my drawing, it ends up a little blurry and I can’t see much of it. Can you please fix this? Other wise, the app is great.
I have yet to try this app, but I want to comment on some reviews below that want to be able to transfer sketches by bluetooth or SD card. These don't understand how the Boogie Board works. Images are created by applying pressure to a liquid crystal display. They are electronically erased. They are not digital in any way, so there's no way they could be transferred to another device digitally.
The concept is great. The execution of it not so much. I have to be careful where I am scanning the board because it magically picks up glare from any light in the room. Not a deal breaker, I can work around that. The biggest issue I have are some of my scans disappear from the app library from time to time. I can usually find them if I look in the photos app, but in this app's preview screen all I get is a red placeholder.
Makes the board almost unusable unless you want to write one note that you keep for a while. It captures too quickly without focusing so the image is unreadable. If it is, It can’t even identify the boarders and gets it wrong 9 of 10 times. Better take a regular photo. But if that’s the case, then having the boogie board has barely better than writing on a napkin, which would be better because the napkin can be used as a napkin.
This is a great idea, and I love the device itself. The board itself saves me a lot of wasted scratch paper but the execution of this app is horrible. My writing area is constantly cut off (in the auto & manual modes), and the quality of what I wrote is abysmal! It looks like someone wrote using the spray paint function in MS paint from 20 years ago. I get better results using my Scanner Pro app and dealing with a black background or just taking a photo of my board than using this app.
So, I just got the app, to write something down. When it connected to the product, it was not even remotely clear. It was very blurry and not very good quality. I think it's a good idea in theory, but it just needs a bit better quality. Maybe when they update it, it will be better. If you are still reading this, thank you for not getting bored
I had the solid black one. The app would not pick it up without the right light and a white or yellow paper background. Bought my mom a red trim one. It picks it up every time regardless of the background. Returned the black one for one with a red trim, and I love it.
Okay, well. I do like the app, and I think it's cool you can save it to your album and add drawing to it from your phone! But it does need a little tweaking? Whenever my mom asked me to make a grocery list, half of the words only showed, well, half of the words! It said "hpastee" instead of "toothpaste". If y'all could work on that one thing it would all be perfect! Thanks!😁😁
I got a jot for Christmas and decided to download the app for fun. I HAD A BLAST. It was so much fun to write on the jot, scan it, and within seconds have my creation saved to my camera roll. Bottom line, great app. The only downside was finding the right environment for the automatic scanning,(which works the best, btw) which, quite frankly, is not a problem.
Bought the board from target for 19$ and downloaded the app, it works great and keeps my thoughts organized, Many may prefer “notes” on the iPhone but i find this easier to sketch on and make it my own. App works great, and so does the board.
This seemed like it wouldn't work but I just tried and got very clean results. The key is to do it in a very well lit place. You must also stay still during the photo. But the results are really great and the app is stable on my iPhone 6s!
The boogie board is decent, but this app is not up to standards. I've been able to get automatic scan to identify the board by placing it on the black cover it came with, allowing the colored edges to be a clear contrast. But the scan automatically trims of the bottom 2cm and I cannot change this. Can someone please fix this? Also the black and white rendering is not as easy to read as the original; I suspect making the black sketches thinner would help.
It works as it says. Scanned successfully in seconds, on several occasions it cut off the top of my notes, overcame that by repositioning the board on the surface it was sitting. (Obtuse angle instead of right angle). Can't wait to try it in my next meeting, if successful. No more carrying around bulky tablets.
At first I found it did not find the jot. Then I realized all it needs is a contrasting background (a piece of white paper) and it scanned almost instantly! Great little device. I'm very happy with it. Just put it on a white piece on paper to scan.
I was not expecting much after reading a few of the negative reviews on here. However I quickly realized that this app works really well in lower reflected light conditions (no glare) with an ijot placed on a contrasting white background. Under these relatively easy to adjust conditions it works very well.
I was mad at first but then I learned how to use the simple app and it scans just as fast as taking a pic and I’m able to highlight my notes on the app before I save them to my pics
