Boom 2
For then past couple of months I've had trouble with my Boom, which I've had for about 6 years. The app sound has been very distorted when watching Netflix and listening with my bluetooth headphones. O swiched to using earplugs with a 3.5m jack and the sound was so much better. Also, the app wouldn't load at start-up like it used to and I would have to go into my Applications folder and click on the icon to get sound to come out of my speakers. I hope this update improves on that.

I Can’t Imagine Living Without This App!
It was always frustrating to hear some low level voices when I was listening to Podcasts on my Macbook Pro and walked away to do other things. And, as might be expected, music sounded tinny, but I didnt want to invest in computer speakers since my laptop is my 2nd floor computer and there isn’t a lot of room where I use it. This app has resolved both volume level for Podcasts and improved the quality of music when I want to listen to Apple Music while I work. I agree with the other reviewer who says it should be included or recommended with the purchase of every Mac. Most of us have quality speakers and/or headphones for serious music appreciation/listening. But the choice of putting on headphones or purchasing redundant and pricey speakers for multiple areas of our workspace or homes where use our laptops is neither possible nor practical. Boom 2 fills that vast void between low volume/ tinny sound; and Audiophile quality. Not only does the spoken word sound richer, clearer, with amplified volume, but Boom 2 also adds enough quality to music to make it enjoyable. Being able to adjust the EQ for each, makes a huge difference. Thank You!

New problems cause me to question this app
I purchased a pair of Audioengine A6's for my home office, for use with my MacBook Pro. I wasn't real happy with the sound at first. I used the equalizer on Apple Music to adjust the sound to my liking, but, when I switched to a high definition streamer, it did not have a built in equalizer. So, I bought this. Boom calibrated the sound automatically, which I normally don't like, preferring to do it myself, but, the sound was great. So, now I am very happy with the speakers and with Boom. That was my review. Oddly, right after I submitted that review, I started having problems, after trouble free use for about a year. Now it will sometimes not allow sound at all, with no explanation, and has, a few times, picked up a short loop from a song and become stuck on it. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, with no help. So, until these bugs get fixed, I can't recommend this app. I am using it on a MacBook Pro 16. I don't know what started causing these problems. I do notice that Boom 2 still seems to work without bugs on my mid-2012 MacBook Pro 15, but has issues on my 2019 MacBook 16.

Vague Trial Terms and Uninstallation Process
Downloaded the app after seeing the good reviews as I am looking for a software to improve my Mac's audio. After opening the app, I was shocked to see that I was already subscribed to a free trial, and that said trial would automatically renew when it ran out and charge to the credit card in my Apple account. Of course, I did not want this as I only planned to test it out, but upon going to my subscriptions in my Apple ID settings I could not find anything to cancel or turn off. After getting fed up and deciding to uninstall, I was met with a tab that claimed I needed to download a new app from the company's website to uninstall. This seemed sketchy so I forcefully uninstalled through another application that I purchased from a legitimate company, removing all traces of this app. So, I have to warn others: DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS APP. The terms are vague and uninstallation is near-impossible without following really sketchy links to download suspicious software. Just do yourself a favor and AVOID. There are better paid options out there than this.

The best option for audio minded people
I work in professional audio and find myself often bouncing around between my work studio monitors, home studio monitors, living room speakers, and various pairs of headphones. This app has been amazing to use to not only have more control over my listening experience, but to better match each of these listening environments with presets. Yes you should be using SMAART or Sonarworks if you're serious about tuning your listening room or speakers, but if you're looking for something much simpler to give you some basic control, this is the app to get. The only thing I'd like to see in future iterations of this program is the ability to use an RTA mic through an interface to properly analyze and equalize your listening space, along with maybe some guides for people who would be afraid to venture into something that advanced.

Buy it here, not at their website
I was a big fan of boom and boom2 but kept getting the DRM nag. So I decided to buy extra copies from their website, and guess what? It’s not only a different product, the audio effects are now an UPSELL. They took them away even though they call it the same product as here. I bought their most expensive package and this was still the case. I requested a refund, will report them if I don’t get it. I’ll deal with the DRM nag, thankfully the audio effects were still in my app store version or I would have reported them to Apple. They’ve lost sight of their customers for sure. WITH REGARD to the response I received from the developer (presumably printed below) I did contact them at their website for a refund, TWICE, with no response. Notice they took time to plug their new product and confused even which product I was talking about. Took time to defend their public reputation, yet didn’t respond behind the scenes. I won’t bother asking a third time for a refund, I’ll file a chargeback with visa and notify my bank.

Significant latency prevents use in conferencing
: This app offers an audio equalizer for improving sound from any audio source. Further, it offers various room models to layer on (i.e. to introduce some amount of reverb to emulate various environments). These functions works quite well. 0: Saving your own equalization setting is a little clunky -- you need to select one of the custom settings, click the green check mark, and then click "New" to create your own. A cleaner solution would be to allow you to directly enter a name of your choice and asking if you want to create or overwrite. -- This app introduces significant (~2 second) latency into the audio stream so it cannot be used in web conference applications (Zoom, Webex etc) where it would be very useful for making the speech more understandable. There should be some minimalist equaliezr mode that also minimizes latency. In theory there's no reason this can't be done.

The best there is
I spend a great deal of time working with my headphones on, and it always bugged me that many of my favorite albums sounded far worse from my Macbook than they did from other devices, even with a solid pair of headphones. Yes - digital audio is highly compressed, much more so for streaming audio. But still - everything was far too flat and lacked depth. Boom completely changed that. I’m generally skeptical of EQ programs, but this is an absolute must-have if you want quality audio. The upgrade to Boom 2 was also very much worth it - again, I didn’t anticipate that much of an improvement over the initial app, but the wider array of presets + the greater manual customization are excellent. I can’t imagine having to go back to listening to my music on my Macbook without Boom.

Works OK, but a few flaws/annoyances
It can boost the volume coming from your Mac by maybe 30%, which is great when you need it. But the app itself gets a bit annoying...it seems to need an update every time the wind blows, and it needs a full re-start in order to install. I'll do an update, and it might not be 24 hours before they want me to do it again. I literally don't have another app on my computer that needs me to re-start as often as this one does. The app is also a bit weighted down by a bunch of features that I don't need or care about, like "3D sound." It's a Mac, it's not going to sound like a stereo system no matter what you do. It also sometimes causes strange issues with the audio output sources on my Mac, so that I'll have to shut down Boom in order to get the audio to work properly.

Difficult to remove
Note: My original review complained of lack of custom EQ; how to do this was not obvious to me; the developer responded, so I'm updating my review (thank you) First of all, the app has some great functionality, With this installed on Big Sur, I noticed some apps' volumes were REALLY LOW even though "Boom2" was NOT selected as the output. This concerns me greatly; as I'm not sure what's really happening under the hood. Uninstalling fixed that. BUT - uninstalling ANY Mac App should NOT be this hard. Opening the app and clicking "UNINSTALL" brought up a window that said "Please download the uninstaller from the web site". (with NO LINK). Searching for the illusive uninstaller the first few times (using the Googles) took me to the developers' web site where I found a script to download to remove it (really?) - it was only after like 20 minutes did I find an app to do this. I mean, c'mon.

BOOM to the Rescue
My (old) MacPro had a set of (even older) speakers that generally produced (surprising) quality and depth. But the woofer was starting to buzz regularly. So, I switched them out for some 200W Logitech speakers. I was expecting a lot from them, but they sounded a bit flat. Certainly should have been better than my previous speakers, but it just wasn’t enough somehow (were the reviews lying?!). I experimented with various devices, replaced cables, tried a DAC, etc. No big change. I was considering returning the speakers. Finally I found Boom2 and it makes a PROFOUND difference. Completely unleashes what I was expecting from my speakers. Totally worth it. But now I’m wondering if there's some kind of Logitech-Boom2 conspiriacy to make me purchase them both!

Crash Issue
This is a really great app, one of the better app purchases i have made and I use it 24/7. It deepens the audio of my computer and makes everything a great listening experience. But one big glaring issue is that it often crashes, and somehow there is no way to quit or delete the app and to do anything about it I have to restart my entire laptop. This woildnt be as big of an issue if my laptop didn't already have an annoying habit of restarting by itself from time to time. So on top of those restarts, I have to interrupt what Im doing, to completely restart my computer for this one unquittable app. Its extremely frustrating and I hope whatever it is gets fixed asap. And this has been happening for the past several updates.

Don’t be tricked by the loud sound on your macbook
There are several 5-star reviews here, but do notice that most of them came from avarege users. If you are a hard user or intend to use this app for professional use, I beg you to read this. This app indeed boosts the volume that your macbook pro’s speakers output… However, there is a flaw in the app. It will crack the sound if it’s too short or if it starts too abrubt (for instance, when all is silent, then I click play in an edit in Adobe Premiere). For leisure (i.e. podcasts) this would be just a minor nuisance. But for a more professional oriented activity (such trimming a dialogue in video editing) this is unacceptable, as it disrupts the creative flow and can even lead to erros in sound mixing. The company seems aware of this problem but currently is unable to solve it (I contected them about it, they said it would be repaired, but did nothing). So as it is currently, the app is a waste of money.

Not much bang for the buck.
Using it on my mid-2014 mbp and early 2015 macbook, both High Sierra. I listen to a lot of Pandora and watch movies on Netflix, using either my headphones, bluethooth speaker or the integraged speakers. Only took 2 attempts for successful installation. There are 5 choices for the equallizer: ambience, fidelity, spatial, night mode and pitch. You tap/click on each of them to get that sound effect. Each sounds a little different from the other; more bass here, more of a background sound there. No adjusting within each one though, except pitch. So this app is easy to use. But it is quite pricey for what little it does. Apparently, you can drag songs and videos into a visually designated box in the open app (mp3, m4a, aiff, caf, wav, mov, mp4, m4v, 3gp, 3g2, dv) to “boost” but I haven’t done that yet.

Frustrating
I purchased this to be able to adjust some old MP3 files I had. The trial worked but seemed like there were functions not showing in the trial that I wanted (manual EQ for those files) so I purchased the lifetime version. I never use my Mac with just its built in speakers so that functionality doesn't matter to me. I mainly wanted to make older recordings sound like more modern recordings do when NOT on my Mac. Issues: There is no manual EQ for "File Mode". It just uses a slider for the intensity of its auto mode. In file mode, All ID3 tags, metadata, album art, etc are lost. You just end up with a file that is named after the artist and album. For saving, there is no ability that I can find to customize the bitrate settings of the file. Its always VBR 128. Lastly, I contacted support last week via email and have not heard any response or even recognition that they received my help request. The only reason it has 2 stars is it did seem to sound pretty good for using it with the computer speakers like its main focus is. It seems like the feature I really wanted is just an afterthought they threw in but never fully finished putting together.

Amazing!
I used to have my MacBook Pro's sound output on a 90's Sony sound system. The Sony broke a few months ago and, as a quick fix, I had to settle for a tiny modern JBL speaker, which is really frustrating for my pseudo-audiophile ears. Luckily I came across Boom 2, which made it all better. I was amazed by how rich and pleasant the sound output became. Turns out I don't need the JBL anymore, as the MacBook Pro's speakers now sound even more powerful by themselves. I can feel my desk vibrate to the bass, and the highs sound crystal clear. The next step is to find a good soul willing to fix the old Sony. I bet its sound will be thundering with Boom 2.

Sound loops
UPDATE: I tried the test build offered by the developer (see their response to my original review, below). It did not fix the problem. Notified the developer promptly but they have not responded and the app remains unusable. -------- I had generally been happy with Boom but recently have had to stop using it entirely because when I'm streaming a video it will periodically get stuck on a bit of sound and just keep repeating it over and over. Using late 2013 Macbook pro with updated Catalina, which seems to have been when the problem started. This was too unpleasant and disruptive and getting more frequent, it seemed -- so Boom is now off. I see from other recent reviews that I'm not the only one having this problem. Why no fix?

Waste of $15
Two issues with this app that make it unusable. First and foremost, the audio skips once or twice per song. It's like 1995 when someone walked too close to the CD player. Second issue, after monitors go to sleep and wake up when you go to change song, volume, or use your computer for anything else, the audio output switches to the monitors so you have to go to the app and switch the audio back to the correct output EVERY TIME THE MONITORS WAKE. I contacted support, they didn't address the skipping issue and said they MIGHT consider adding capability to fix the monitor issue in the future. Other than that the equalizer functions as one expect, is nicely customizable, and the remote app is nice to control from around the house. It's a shame the two issues make the app unusable and a waste of money.

Holy grail of EQ's !!!
I got a pair of sennheiser headphones plugged into my macbook and thought that I was missing a couple frequencies and tones. Downloaded the app and The level of fidelity and truth to the sounds... words cannot describe. I then decided to plug in my pioneer DM40 studio monitors which I use for my personal computer opposed to my actual studio level monitros and the difference this EQ makes is unheard of. Its like an Eargasm!!!! Its all in the details... This coming from someone who has been Djing at clubs and mobile djing for years and heard probably some of the best sounding rooms venues and speakers. Dont sleep on this app. Its worth every penny.

If You’re Looking For Better Sound, This Is The App To Get
Whether you’re using your Mac’s integrated speakers, external speakers plugged into the audio jack, or a headset, this is a must-have if you want sound that’s both richer and more vivid. In fact, Boom 2 even outshines its own successor, Boom 3D. No amount of words can fully convey the transformation Boom 2 works on your audio; the only real way to know how big a difference it makes is to get it and use it. I know that’s a leap of faith, but if you’re going to take anybody’s word for anything today, make it these words: Get Boom 2. Your ears will thank you.

Every release is slower and less stable
I'm finally giving up on Boom 2. Over the time that I've used it, every single update has made it slower, less stable, and more buggy. The team seems to want to waste their time maintaining a "cute" animated UI instead of just using standard, intuitive macOS controls and focusing on stability and performance. I could tolerate this for a while because most of the time you don't have to interact with the UI except maybe to change between EQ presets. And the bugs...such as NEVER remembering the set boost volume and always jumping to max after a restart...were somewhat tolerable. Well the latest version is so sluggish that the simple task of switching EQ presets or adjusting the volume is now a nightmare. For the record, this is on a quad core i7. A responsive UI should not be a challenging task. Worse, it crashes all day long. It seems like every time I sleep my MacBook or just walk away for a short time, I have to come back and re-launch Boom 2 because it has crashed. Time to try a competitor. I won't tolerate this bug show any more.

I had to write a review immediately!
I just installed and I had to write a review immediately! I’ve been so frustrated. I bought a $1,000 course and I haven’t been able to hear it accept on my headphones and it was so annoying b/c I didn’t have freedom of movement, plus it’s just annoying having to use headphones. This app has completely fixed everything. Now the volume is booming! Any louder and we’d blow the speakers up! Hahaha. Thank you for creating this app. It’s well worth the $15. Woohoo!!!! :D

Buggy on latest
On a new MBP16" 2019 with latest software, Boom is very buggy. Audio regularly cuts out when sleeping and I have to close and re-open Boom for it start working again. Changing the Boom volume up causes nasty sounds to start that sound like could be damaging my built-in speakers. Reducing volume does not fix it, again I have to close Boom. Also one time, it got stuck or something and a tiny clip in the middle of audio started repeating indefinitely. Update: Now it seems to also drain my battery. If I close laptop lid at night, in morning battery is completely drained. Using diagnostic tools I can see it is Boom! I have tried delete and re-install but all issues persist. Completely unusable app now.

I was skeptical but made a huge difference!
I bought a set of Sennheisers for work to replace my cheap headphones there. I use Sennheisers in my studio so I expected the sound to be the same…very full, very rich. They were a bit anemic plugged into my MBP. I went looking for EQ apps because to my ear, the EQ seemed worse than flat…it seemed to actually kill a lot of the frequencies. I tried the Boom demo after a bit of searching and was amazed. It made it worth the purchase price to me. Apple — you should be licensing this software into OSX!

Never had a maleware problem until installing this Boom2 app
I bought, downloaded and tried Boom2 for a couple weeks. (Lackluster performance...Really, how much more sound do you think you’ll get out of your system speakers, anyway?) Regardless, simply stated, I think the developer has either knowingly or unknowingly allowed malware to be bundled with its product. How do I know? I NEVER download and install “small" company software — yet almost immediately after installing the Boom2 app (without having installed anything before or after), I began experiencing a maleware attack, and the “BeeWare” adware. I wish to reinterate my otherwise “clean” Mac experience prior to this experience, to the tune of two decades as an experienced Mac operator.

Amazing app breathes life into your old music
It’s amazing how this app has made my collection of music sound the way it did like the first time I listened to these songs. It took a fair amount of digging, but I was able to pull up the custom eq and tweak the frequencies (I’m sure compensating for some hearing loss I’ve amassed in 50 years) to a place where the music sounds fresh again. That combined with the “ambience” setting really made it pop, giving the instruments room to breathe. Money well spent.

Works horribly with AirPods in Catalina
Boom 2 causes so many problems with AirPods after the macOS Catalina update, and it has been months without fixes. There are problems such as no audio output, Boom 2 requiring "calibration" again, Boom 2 crashing, wrong audio device being selected, stuttering, and more. It is painful to use. The developers seem to have moved on to Boom 3D, even though there really isn't much benefit to it, and I don't even know if the problems are fixed on that app. Other equalizer programs such as Soundsource don't have these issues, so if you use AirPods, try something else. The developers responded to this review as if they would help, but they ignored me on Skype and never sent any follow up emails.

Audio Equilizer
I am in my 50’s and simply wanted a good audio equalizer. I have tried many, but uninstalled them due to a terrible user interface and performance. This one does exactly what I need when it comes to fine tuning my audio. There are things that I would like to have that are not in the software, but there most likely in my own benefit… I highly recommend trying this product. You may discover what I did, finally something I like.

Works but...
Very hard to decipher. It seems like trial and error when I can get it to work. When it does work it works well but very difficult interface. So difficult that I removed it because I would use this so infrequently and it make my normal volume not work properly unless I can understand how this works. It created a Boom audio interface in addition to the other audio output sources you have and you need to know when to select that and you can't leave it in boom as the audio output default as often audio won't work at all, for no aparent reason.

Hands down…the best EQ app out there!
I added a nice pair of powered JBL monitors to my iMac and at first I was dissapointed in the sound, not from the speakers but from the iMac sound output. I’m an audiophile and I am skeptical of aftermarket sound enhancement apps. Well….I’m certainly glad I decided to go with BOOM 2! It made such a quality improvement that I think I’m listening to speakers that cost 5 times more than what I paid! This app is very customizable and easy to use. You won’t go wrong with this app!

This app makes a huge difference
I purchased a new MacBook Pro this year as well as a new soundbar because my previous external sound system finally died after 15 years or so. The sound quality of the sound bar from my previous system was a significant downgrade, but Boom2 offset that diminished sound quality immensely. I would definitely recommend this app if you are looking to improve your computer's sound quality.

Bass reducer for headphones - great fidelity++
I bought some decent bluetooth headphones that had good clarity but were naturally very bass heavy. I use Boom2 on both my work and personal machines to reduce the bass output. I was able to make a custom EQ setting for it so that when I switch back to the built-in laptop speakers or plug in other external speakers, I can switch profiles and it sounds great. Big improvement on sound quality in general. I use the “fidelity” setting 90% of the time.

Too much for me
Pay for the app, then realize you have to download and install additional software (that maybe couldn't pass the scrutiny of the app store), then find that it will only function (as an equalizer) if you grant this unknown software access to your microphone, then find that you still can't see an actual equalizer. Maybe there was an option I missed, but I don't look for fine print in my UI's-- I assume any features worth using will be prominent/obvious. All I could see are a handful of cute named profiles, none of which show me the actual eq curve. Finally, uninstalling wasn't my favorite experience. What has two thumbs and wants a refund? this guy...

Should be included in MacOS by default!
I’ve been using this app since Boom “1”, when I had a macbook air, with those tinny sounding speakers. Over the past 5-6 years I’ve installed it on every mac I’ve had since, and is an indispensible application imo. Even if you’re only slightly into listening to things, be it music, TV, whatever, this should be a required purchase - and Apple should really have included this functionality in MacOS forever!

Very Suspicious
Honestly, this app behaved very, very strange from the beginning so I did not use it and cannot comment on the audio capabilities. Suffice to say that I was looking for equalizer but there was not an obvious one. Immediately upon installation the app opened the web browser and asked me to subscribe for the paid version. In order to uninstall I had to download another app that asked me to make system changes (the installer did not do that). On top of that it did _NOT_ remove the app. I am doing a scan right now but the whole thing looked very, very strange. I would recommend not installing this one, it may be a trojan.

Great App
This app just provides so much it’s almost laughable as to how much you get. The user interface is great, it works seamlessly across the mac OS, and the support is great. And to top it all off, the amount of customization you get is incredible. Listening to music with and without the application on is a night and day difference. I actually stopped listening to music on my PC because there’s nothing like this on Windows OS. Highly recommended!

Boom 2 will dramatically change your music listening experience on your laptop. I never undertsand why a manufacturer doesn’t deliver the best product it can when a third party like Global Delight Technologies clearly shows with its Boom 2 app that a much better audio experience is possible for what would be a negligible cost to Apple. I bought this app on the recomendation of a friend. Stopped working after the "trial period" ended. After 3 months of writing the app's support techs, sending screen shots, purchase reciepts and videos, they've offered no resolution to the problem. My request for a refund has not had the favor of a reply. Wouldn't recomend buying it. Their response was to sent them an email! I've been emailing them for months. Can't seem to bring themselves to refund my money, and send me another app to get this thing off my computer. Don't go down this road. Avoid this app!!

Playback Issues on mac OS X Big Sur & Catalina
I've had issue with Boom not letting the sound come out of the wired speakers that I had hooked up to the 3.5mm audio jack/headphone jack. I think that jacked up. I thought it was an issue becaue I was projecting onto the Apple TV, but even when not mirroring the screen, there was no sound coming out until I closed the Boom App. :( I like to really be able to eq my jazz with accented highs and lows. I figured out that if you stop the music and then TURN ON the Boom App FIRST, THEN play the music...you should be good.

This is probably my all time favorite purchase. Talkes brand Mac sound and changes everything. With a good set of headphones, you can enjoy top notch sound right out of your 1/8” audio jack. Total freedom to allow the app to calculate your equalizer for you (it does a great job) or you can save completely customized setting for different applications or music. I highly recommend this app!!!

Please don't use it!
I used Boom 1 and then Boom 2 on my 2013 MBP. For the first year or so, it was the most useful utility I had purchased on the App Store. But then, my speakers got blown. As far as I can remember, boom2 was on and I had probably maximized the volume of VLC (a video palyer) on a movie. It's good, until it blows your speakers. I suggest avoiding this utility if you have any love for your Mac. If you think about it, why wouldn't Apple just increase the volume level on its speakers if it was alright? There must be a reason Apple set the max where it is. This utility just bypasses the safe level and gives you the extra volume, until it blows out.

Can’t imagine enjoying my stereo w/o Boom
I use Boom mostly in my home office. I have my Mac digitally connected to my stereo. The thing most like about Boom is the ability to completely control all aspects of the sound, easily. I was convinced that it was causing a delay with video, but when I took away bluetooth/wireless connection and replaced with digital audio, the problem went away. I’m a believer in boom!

Sound goes BOOM!
I've been using the app for several years now (7 ) and there hasn't been a day I haven't noticed when it wasn't started. The sound difference is TOO noticeable, which isn't a good thing, it's an amazing thing!!! I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone who wants more of a powerful sound, or even a more finer sound, as the equalizer can pretty much hit everything.

You can't get it out of your Mac
I started hearing noises in my headphones like someone was figiting with a live mic. Checked my sound setting and the sound choice was scrolling continuiously up and down on the choices from headphones, monitor, Mac, boom, non stop, up and down. Tried to delete Boom, but there are traces of Boom that are glued permanantely to the drive, even the forums don't have a sucessful solution to get rid of the boom "kext". I had trouble with the original Boom about 10 years ago, and thought they would have things fixed 10 years later. Sorry, not fixed.

Filters your audio even when off
Boom will choke the volume of your audio even when toggled to off. It certainly gives the illusion that your Mac sounds way better with it on but it's just a trick to get you go buy it. Global Delight makes the uninstaller difficult to find on their site but when you do find it and remove the extension you can clearly hear your Mac is restored to its original output. It's all a deceptive marketing trick. Don't ruin your Mac audio. Apple isn't bad at this kind of thing! They are famously good at it. You don't need a third party "enhancer".

I've been using this for years, this is an awesome app
Until you hear the difference in audio, it's hard to explain why Boom is so awesome. Boom adds an extra layer of enhancement to all songs on my Macbook Air. Without Boom enhancement, music sounds OK but somewhat generic and hard to differentiate. With Boom enhancement, I am able to detect additional layers to music and improved volume. This is a great app and worth the investment.

Must own if you enjoy music
This is literally the first app I install on any private or professional Mac. Even very casual listeners are blown away by the change in music quality when settings are adjusted properly! No complaints — the devs are active and have maintained the app through Apple's transitions for several years now.

Just turn on the equalizer...
I love this app. I have MacOS Catalina and it works on it as well, not sure why others might be having issues. The equalizer is amazing and simply makes everything sound better. I also like being able to turn up the volume so I can actually hear it if I go to another room while listening to something.
