Too Basic
This review is for the Brother iPrint&Scan 8.0 scanning utility which I’m using with a newly purchased Brother HL-L2395DW scanner/printer. I’m using it on an iMac over a wifi connection and it does work, but the lack of anything but the most basic scanning features is pretty disappointing. The most egregious of these misses is the inability to run a quick preview scan and then specify the scanning area with a bounding box before hitting the final Scan button. If you’re scanning anything other than a standard-size page, you will need to scan at the largest page size (8.5x11) and then crop what you want using another application, such as Apple’s built-in Preview app. This means it will take extra time to scan and extra time to edit the result. Even the 20-year-old Epson this printer replaced provided a preview/crop feature, as has every other scanning software I’ve ever used in the past 30 years. If you’re only ever scanning documents it’s serviceable, but anything else such as an odd sized photo or drawing, it’s a drag.

Opt out of sending device info
Software works OK, but you may want to opt out of sending them usage and device information, which they would otherwise collect. The “privacy” policy allows them to record your printer model, serial number, location of your device, printing date, number of printed pages, types and sizes of paper, ink consumption, language information, IP address, OS type, printing date, quantity, and the types and sizes of paper. Although they promise this information will not be used to identify you without your consent, clearly it can (serial number, if you registered, and IP address, for example), and they may use that data for marketing. Finally, all that information “may be stored in Servers located in countries without an adequate level of protection for personal data compared to that in your country ....” So, go to Settings > Product Information and uncheck the Send Information box.

Fall Down Simple to Use
I have been using a Samsung for the past 8 years and have been very satisfied with it. But it is harder to maintain than this one was to set up. And, it never worked printing from WIFI or my iPhone, though it claimed to. Maybe it was just not ready for prime time. This one is. The daughter wanted the old home office printer to take to work. I bought this one to replace it. It is a Brother HL-3290CDW. I set it up in the kitchen, it acquired the WIFI. I prepared the ink, very easily. Moved it to the office to connected the USB cable. Finished the setup and found I could print from anywhere in the house via the WIFI, with smart phones, iPhones, tablets, and notebook computers. Not a single problem. I would have given it five stars, but I have not tried the OCR feature yet, nor read the manual. I had one surprise, it printed double-sided and very fast. This a very good simple all in one printer, copier and more.

Useless, Too Basic
Like another review said, this tool is literally so basic that it's useless. Very lovely modern user interface but it doesn't provide anything that regular MacOS can't do when it comes to printing. I'm currently using a MFC-L2705DW and through wifi, it only has very limited capabiltiies. Connecting to USB, however, allows a user to customize A LOT of important output information such as print graphics vs. text and even print the density. These features are important especially if the print comes out really faded on regular settings and cleaning the drum unit is a huge pain with no results. I can't believe these extra output settings aren't included via wifi or within this app. I have a very small space so my printer is in another room that isn't near my desktop computer so connecting via USB is impossible unless I carry the whole printer to my room.

Better than 2 stars
I recently bought a new Brother printer (MFC-L2710DW) and set it up. After seeing the rating here, I almost skipped downloading the application altogether. However, I was very impressed with it. It is basic, but it does everything out of the box that I need: scanning paperwork and making PDFs out of it. Even better, the printer itself can be controlled from the software (this app) and the tray on the top can be used to feed multiple pages, in order, to be scanned and grouped. I was nervous that I would have to scan one-by-one in the classic scanning tray, but I guess I am now part of the future. Of interest, the printer is accessible via the network (WiFi and Ethernet) and USB, and it also has a random password printed on the back of it.

Simple Features - Perfect Performance
After reading the 2 star reviews, I was really sceptical but, nevertheless, resumed with the iPrint&Scan app download -- and I'm so happy that I did. I have a Brother, printer model MFC-J497DW, and needed basic -- but bulletproof -- scan capabilities for my iMac M1 -24" - (2021). The download completed in approx. 30 seconds, and I was scanning my wife's resume credentials in a matter of minutes and before her application timed-out (yes, the streamlined process made me look like a genius). All told, my advice is that you ignore the negative reviews and try the app out for yourself. If it doesn't work as expected, you can always just delete it. Thankfully, it worked perfectly for me. I'm really happy. Good luck guys and many blessings.

Just What I Needed
I have a Brother MFC-J805DW work smart printer. My new IMAC picked up the printer automatically but when I tried to scan the top tray would not work. And if I scanned them on the tray, it wouldn't let me combine them with previous scanned pages. After downloading this app it had me find the printer then everything worked as it should. It makes my Mac work just like it did on my PC. And does it all before you have to save anything, then asks you where you want to save it, and even gives you an option to create a new folder to save it to. I don't understand the other reviews as this app works flawlessly and perfect. I just wish I had descovered it before I pulled all my hair out! Ha!

Oh brother...
This Brother iPrint & Scan app (version 8.0.0) is terrible. Firstly, it sometimes connects to my brand new Brother printer, MFC-L5850DW via network and other times disconnects itslelf. It's a very buggy app via network connection. However with USB, it doesn't. So the wireless feature is useless. Secondly, you can't precrop a scanned image like any other scanning app where you first see the scan and then crop what you desirably want. That means if you have anything that is not in Letter size, you'll have to crop manually. What a time waster, honestly. Thirdly, the colors of the scan with this app is not true to the image. Seriously, I tested under various setting and the color was never right. For mac users, just stick to the scanning utility in your default printing settings. You'll save the time AND the headache. Please update the app to support reliable network connection, cropping feature, and better color correction.

Very Disappointed with Brother
I have owned a number of Brother printers and all-in-ones. My last two have been all-in-ones color laser printers so they are not cheap. I use Macs and up until Catalina - Brother has kept up with the software tools. I very unhappy with Brother for not releasing a 64 bit version of Control Center for Catalina. I installed this app only to discover how clunky it is and where is the preview function where I can select how much of the image I want scanned. I put in a 4 X 6 and it scans a full sheet. NOT what I needed! Brother - someone needs to wake up and start to care again about supporting their products - especially to the Mac community. I don't have a problem telling people what I think whether I like or dislike something. By the way I was being generous with 2 stars. One is probably more appropriate.

How Can a Scan App not Have a Preview?
In the process of troubleshooting issues with the macOS Preview App scanning capabilities, I was directed by Brother Support to download this application to fix the issue. Being the only application they can support, this was really the only option they provided. Hands down, this is probably the worst scanning application I've ever used (and, without dating myself, I've been scanning for decades). While I can appreciate they have access to all of the hardware features of their device (as you'd expect from the manufacturer), the interface is not intuitive, and you're going to be doing a lot more in the post-scan process to get where you need to go in your workflow. If this is going to be their only solution to solving problems on macOS, they should step up and give us the basic scanning features (preview, selecting an area to scan, image adjustments, etc.).

Collosally stupid move on the part of Brother; they have apparently had enough of Apple and totally abandoned Mac users. Brother decided not to develop a 64 bit Control Center App compatible with OS Catalina. I have a MFC-7840W laser printer combo that's run flawlessly for well over 10 years. Great printer. Until now. Its capabilities are now severely limited, with crappy work arounds and loss of functionality because Brother didn't upgrade Control Center for Mac. This failure leaves Mac users high and dry with limited functionality beyond printing for older units. iPrint & Scan will only work on a select few of newer Brother printers. The vast majority of older printers Brother has made over the years are not compatible with iPrint as is my MFC-7840. Brother has basically screwed thousands (millions?) of owners of their older printers. Giving this one star because I can't give it ZERO. Best work around is to use a Windows 10 laptop ...which is what I am doing.

Lack of important features.
Works ok in general, but lack of some basic features: - App can't detect it's own printer/scanner!!! Even Apple OS can detect it, but not app from printer manufacturer!!! Good that at least direct IP address input is present - it work ok with this. - My 2710 does not support automatic duplex. Even free 3rd party simple scan on Ubuntu have resorting feature, so you can just reinsert documnents in ADF and scan other side and then re-sort pages in app. But not this app!!! App ftom manufacturer of printer can't suport scanning double sided documents on non-duplex scanners, but free 3rd part app can!!! Shame!!! - I got error when try to connect Google Drive with app: "Sign in with Google temporarily disabled for this app. This app has not yet been verified by Google in order to use Google Sign in." Really strange for such respectable company...

Clunky and parts of the interface only in French
I installed this during the setup of a recently purchased HLL2395D. I found the setup a bit clunky but manageable. Several steps had to be repeated to find the printer/scanner. The fact that crucial parts of the interface are in a foreign language (not withstanding that by sheer luck it is one that I speak and read), and that there is no way for the user to select a language, is an unforgivable foul-up. From the number of reviews here and postings elsewhere from those seeking, and the age of some of these posts, it's hard not to draw the conclusion that Brother does not take support of this application seriously. I find this very disappointing.

Great App for Scanning
Like others I do not understand the negative reviews. Perfect scans. Easy and intuitive. Lots of saved format options. Easy to save a scan to my Mac or email as an attachment or open in Preview. Easy to rotate or add pages. You cannot preview scans, so if that feature is important look elsewhere. I use the app for scanning only. Installed my new brother MCF–L2750DW by going to System Settings, Printers & Scanners, and selecting Add Printer, Scanner, Fax. Took less than a minute. Prints flawlessly. My needs are probably more basic than other reviewers but I really like this app and appreciate its simplicity.

Garbage App will not print 'Pages' or 'Word' Documents.
I had this same printer on my Windows computer before transitioning to Mac. I lost soooo many features, but the most annoying feature is having to print by opening an App and then locating the file as opposed to having the file open and the press print. It gives you a print option and a scan option. For print you are given the option to print a 'pdf' or a 'photo'. There is no option to print a ".docx" (word/pages document) and these items are greyed out on the computer when I try to select them for print. I have never seen a printer/app unable to print a simple word document. To print them I need to save them as PDF first. What a ridiculous piece of garbage. The app is atrocious and often times so simplistic that is basically useless.

Clunky, but powerful
I use this with the Brother ADS-1700W, and once I figured out Brother's strange ideas about how software should work, it's fantastic. I have several Workflows in the app, triggered by buttons on the scanner's touch-screen. I can just set a document in, press "Health" and scan my medical records, or press "Kids" and scan school records, and it runs OCR and files them in the correct folders. Combined with Brother's excellent hardware, this is an incredibly useful tool. ("Clunky but powerful" is my expereince with most Brother products. The engineering of the hardware is excellent; the software is reliable and never crashes. But the user interfaces? Well…)

Good options for scanning
Good second option for scanning. AirPrint is my first choice for both printing and scanning, but this utility gives *different* scanning options to choose from when I need them. I am glad to have both this and AirPrint - this Brother app is worth looking at if you might need, for example, extremely detailed scans (e.g., 1200x1200 dpi on my machine) that isn't offered in Airprint (for my machine). I haven't used this for printing as everything on my Mac and iPhone seems to default to AirPrint, which works great. It is just a different, useful scanning app for me.

Infuriatingly time and labor intensive
I only use this for scanning. It does work with my Brother MFC-J870DW every time. But it replaces the very efficient and usable Control Center software, and it is a huge waste of time compared to Control Center. The biggest issue is with multi-page scanning: - There is a 20 sec delay for first page, 10 sec for the rest. - The older software scanned succeeding pages with just hitting Return, finally clicking Finish after the last page. For each succeeding page, this software requires: Grab mouse. Move mouse. Click Add Pages. Move mouse to popup dialog. Click Scan. Wait 10 seconds. One final click to get to the Save page. Also: - The old sofware remembered the filename entered. So for succeeding related files, you could just edit the filename. This software: New random filename is generated for each Save. Type it all over for each file. - "Scan to Cloud Service" includes Microsoft OneDrive, but not iCloud. - There are apparently no keyboard shortcuts to reduce the ludicrous amount of mousing. It's hard to believe anyone ever tried to test this awful software for usability while it was being developed.

Totally Fine Software
I think this app suffers from reviews mainly by people who have some odd problem or unreasonable expectation. I bought an exensive printer at the beginning of covid to work at home, then saw all these bad reviews. I should not have worried. It installed fine. I have put it on three Macs, and it scans perfectly every time. Printing is seamless. We print wirelessly from iPhones all over the house. It is a simple interface, but all I want is to print, scan, and have it work consistently. Maybe I am lucky, but my sense is many other reviewers are having a bad day when reviewing this.

No settings - must print at 93%
I don't know why this gets any stars at all, or why they even bother to make this app. You can only print JPG and PDF files. Nothing more. And you can't change the settings of these when printing, only the most basic things like duplex, alignment, etc. If you print a PDF, it will shrink it to "fit" the PDF contents into the print margins (which I believe is 93%), even if it doesn't need shrinking; you cannot print at 100% the original size. When you Airprint (my only other option), you have all of these additional settings. However, this app prints super fast compared to Airprint, which takes forever for some documents. My Brother printer is great, why can't the software people be as good as the hardware people?

Unforgivably bad software
I have a 12 year old Fujitsu ScanSnap. Its software is clunky and outdated, but it does the job. I bought a Brother DS-940DS expecting an upgrade to a more capable scanner with modern software. This was a huge mistake. - Every operation is 10x more complicated than necessary. The configuraitons are a labyrinth. - The „Workflow” feature is not ready for primetime. Good idea, failed execution. It lacks feature parity with the one-off scan mode. In particular, the critical continuous scan feature for scanning a multiple page document is not available in Workflows. - Every operation one could possibly want to perform is 10x more complicated than necessary. - The app treats the scanner as two distinct devices, depending on how it’s connected (WLAN or USB). If you’ve created workflows while connected by USB, they are not available when connected by WLAN (and vice versa.) - A few settings can only be accessed through a web interface that runs on the scanner itself. This is not extremely annoying in practice, but totally avoidable. And it tells us exactly what kind of organizationally dysfunctional corporation this product emerged from.

Where are the features?
Most aggregious that there isn't an option to scan the reverse side of documents on models w/o the duplex document feeder. I mean, I knew I'd have to shell out and extra $200 above what I paid for the L2550DW for that feature, but I didn't think in 2021 I needed to MANUALLY reorder documents in a PDF after scanning!! If we could do 1/2-stars, I'd give this 2 & 1/2 … because it's right down the middle: software works fine, but doesn't add anything to the experience to make it worth having. Very disappointed that a company that makes such solid hardware doesn't let me utilize it to its potential.

Undependable
Doesn't work for a brother printer. This brother printer worked fine on a mac mini a year ago. Seems to have dropped tiled poster printing now. Downloading this app did not help. Dual booting to Big Sur, just made it impossible to even print. Good thing I preserved the old OS. Why does updating software inevitably make basic hardware obsolete? The PC seems to make use of the printer just fine. Are the keyboard and mouse next? The monitor too? Anyway, why did I bother downloading this app? Brother can't be depended on to keep a basic printer functional on a modern OS. Like, did something essential change in the way my mac mini operates, that a printer can't convert a simple image into printer operations? I will not support Brother in future purchases.

May have fixed my problem?
My MFC-7360N stopped working under macOS 11, so I used this app, which only allowed scanning from the app, so I was very disappointed... BUT THEN I went back to "System Prefs > Printers & Scanners"... and noticed there was a NEW printer found... and I was able to use that to print as normal. I don't know if the app had something to do with it or not. I have been plugging/unplugging my printer in trying to get it to work for the past hour. It didn't start working until I installed this app, which *did* at least detect my printer.

Version 9 is a good improvement
It generally lets me do things I want. However, setting up scanning so that it takes the settings from the computer rather than generated on the scanner only works with scan to file. Not OCR and other settings. It needs more work to marry up the settings between your computer and the printer. Also, there is no way to specify for the scanner to scan from the ADF vs the flatbed explicity. Sometimes this is very useful. But the app has improved a lot. I hope it keeps improving.

The only way to scan with a Brother on Mac
I don't know what all the griping and moaning is about "lack of features" etc. from these whiners, but this is really the ONLY way to scan from a Brother scanner or MFC on Mac. Image Scanner takes for-bloody-ever to transfer data ( 2 min. per page) wirelessly; Adobe Acrobat (if you happen to have it) usually errors out on wireless scanning. This works, works fast, and saves as PDF in addition to JPG, BMP, etc. Just install it and be happy.

Does not let you copy and paste file name
Overall, this is a fine product, but we do a lot of scanning where we use the same file name again and again for different files ... the only difference is appending the date. Some of our file names are long and need to be exactly the same, but there is no way to select the old file name and just update the date, or to copy the file name and paste in the file name field. It will not accept a copy and paste. So this is really a pain and not helpful. I'm certainly looking for an alternative. Other than that, which we find very important for our use, it works OK.

No issues and just enough features for me
Detected my Brother printer on the network immediately. Clicked on a prominent button labeled Scan. Was presented with a logical set of choices about what I was scaning. Scanned a page and was presented with a logical set of choices about what I wanted to do with the scan, including adding another page. Didn't see a crop feature. That's one star off, Brother. Otherwise a pleasantly unconfusing experience and clean interface—which is really what I enjoy about working on a Mac.

How do I remove that one undeserved star...
OK, I have a Brother 805DW that works fine on my Windows PCs. I buy a MAC and promptly put it in the COMPUTERS VLAN. The Brother is where it belongs, in the IOT VLAN. Now just try and make IPRINT SCAN work. It's broadcasts, as is Airprint. That's OK, I have a printserver in my SERVERS VLAN... My Canon printer prints just fine through SMB.... The Brother... NOPE. I install Avahi on my router and configure it to REFLECT between the VLANS. NOW Airprint works but this IPRINT & SCAN still doesn't work even with the IP manually input. Ok, I'll stick with airprint for now or just use my CANON. This software probably works OK if you just dump everything in LAN but more and more people at home are using VLANS for basic security. Where can I remove this last STAR...

Unhappy with App
I have always owned Brother printers. With the Catalina iOS I had to get the app in order to be able to scan. Here I am, middle of the night, been trying for an hour to get the @$#%& scanner to work. It worked at one time... what happened while I left the room?!!! I get a connection error, "select your Brother machine and try again". Doesn't work. I need this documet for my business. Can't get tech support until tomorrow. I put in my model number to search trouble shoot iPrint/Scan. The result: Found 3900> matches!!!! OMG... am I supposed to scroll through them all to find MINE? I'm about done with Brother machines! Out of desperation I had to take a photo of my document and attach it to the e-mail. THIS REALLY STINKS!

works great
We have two Brother MFC laser scanners and this works great with both functions on both machines. An MFC-7860DW and an L2740DW. I am specifically leaving a positive review because this app is getting slammed and it has always worked for us. It's quick, reliable, and has the features we need- scan from platform or feeder with various settings, print multiple pages per sheet or double sided, inform us about toner and paper status, etc.

Brother has lost my business
I am so disappointed in Brother. I have been using a Brother ADS-1500w protabel scanner for years and have really loved it... until now. Once I upgraded to Catalina, my love for Brother has come to a crashing end. The ControlCenter software had been perfect but is now unsupported in Catalina. At Brother's website they direct you to use this iPrint&Scan- but according the app- the ADS-1500W is not supported (Neither network NOR USB). Even if it was supported, it does not have many of the features that make the scanner so good. Don't bother downloading this app. Brother clearly does not care about their Mac users. As a result, this is the last Brother product I will buy. I am taking my business elswhere.

Eating up Memory
Feature-wise, it does what I need it to do. However, I was 4 separate files in and the program froze notifying me that I was out of memory. This program was at 75GB memory... Not sure if there's a way around this, but some advice would be appreciated. I may just quit the program between files since I'm scanning rather large documents and I don't know how to tell the program to stop holding unnecessary things in memory.

solid app to scan documents
I downloaded this to use with my new Brother all-in-one. For the most part it works very well and easy to use. It is definitely limited when it comes to scanning options, such as fine tuning the color, but overall the app does exactly what it is designed to do. My only real complaint is that the scanning interface allows you to scan multiple documents as a new page but it provides no way to re-arrange or delete pages you have scanned.

Was 5 Stars, Now 1
I recently returned from some extended travel. Prior to that, my ADS-3000N was working flawlessly and reliably. Whenever I needed a scan, I just walked up to it, stuck the document in, and used BiP&S on my Studio M2 to scan it. The interface is slightly kludgy, but not bad. Today, suddenly, with no intervening changes of which I am aware, BiP&S reports the scanner offline. I have reset the machine network settings, IP, etc. I can ping the machine and scan ports, and (thankfully) can scan using Apple's built-in Image Capture [which makes BiP&S seem elegant by comparison]. I re-installed all drivers, but no go. This software no longer sees my ADS-3000N on the network.

Works great.
I had some difficulty getting this all set up, but after using several differnt brands of scanners, they are always a little tricky, partly due to the fact they do so much. This even allows you to print or scan from your phone. Brother support has always been GREAT and shines with a great attitude and no rushing to help get things set up. I've purchased several products from Brother and they have the best, most patient tech help I've experienced.

ABSOLUTE TRASH
Super annoyed with Brother.... after reworking my wireless network to finally connect with my printer, this Brother app crashes on my MacOS version e every time. There is no way to scan photos from the printer to my MacBook Pro and on my Iphone Brother Iprint and Scan doesn't give me any resolution options - only do I want color or B&W scanning. Are you JOKING ME???? Is this 1993???? Then airdropping between devices makes the image lose quality. Absolute trash app. I will *NEVER* buy another Brother printer again. Though it has lasted well, the machine runs out of ink immediately and connectivity is awful - no USB port and no updates for this app for the Mac. I'm so irritated.

Disappointing
I have used Brother printers for years now and just purched newer MFC and laser printers. I also use Macs and after upgrading on of my Macs to Catalina I could no longer use Control Center. iPrint & Scan does not work nearly as well or have the features of Control Center. I hope that Brother is working on a 64bit version of Control Center. One thing that does not work is that I cannot scan and email a document. One issue is that I cannot select the mail application that I use (Thunderbird) and when I try to scan and email to the default maul application it does not work at all, just give me an error message about not being able to open the application.

I don't know why the reviews aren't better
I don't know if i'm late to the party or not, but this app is really awesome. I was able to get my new printer linked to my Mac Pro in minutes and now it automatically scans and saves PDFs to the folder I designated onto my desktop, wirelessly. And the "send information" option is defaulted to where it does not send information. Great service, thank you!

Full Potential
When I downloaded this app, I decided to compare it with several other options and here are the results: Image Capture (Mac) - The slowest choice. Some scans are randomly cropped no matter how you adjust the settings. File size is large. iPhone (scan with Notes app) - Convenience is the only feature. The image quality is the worst and the file size is the largest. iPrint & Scan (this app) - The smallest file size, the best quality, the fastest scan. No random crops resultinig in perfect results. The only app that offers double side scanning simultaneously using the automatic document feeder., This app puts the other options to shame. There is no comparison. I highly recommend this 100% everytime. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

No options for anything!
First app store review I've ever left but this is insane. You can't even scale or rotate an image you want to print? The app is pathetically bare bones. What is more annoying still is that this is the ONLY OPTION for printing anyting with this printer. There is no driver available to let me print the way I would print with the default print options on my Mac. Incredibly disappointed... this software is on the level of a highschool project if they crafted a printer with an ardiono or something. Basically turns a printer that costs more than 100 dollars into a solution for the most desperate people to have something printed in their homes.

Does not scan good; very disappointed Control Center not updated
Brother's Control Center (which worked with Mojave, but does not work with Mac's Catalina software update) was much better quality than this alternative app. The scans are now skewed more than ever (even when using deskew) and there are many more steps than before. This app is terrible. I implore Brother to get its act together and release a 64-bit version of Control Center. I spent about $350 on a Brother printer about 1.5 years ago and am extremely disappointed right now. If this issue is not fixed soon, I will NOT consider purchasing Brother products again and will not recommend them to anyone.

The interface of this app works just fine on my iMac, and it has hugely improved quality and setting flexibility for scans with my Brother MFC-J6945DW all-in-one printer/scanner. Previously to downloading this, I was using the Mac’s default TWAIN driver with Mac's Image Capture, and all my scans had what appeared to be JPG compression noise (even with files saved to an uncompressed format). This app has been the icing on the cake for the best printer I’ve ever owned.

Basic, but just works!
I have been using this for quite some time now and while it is a basic app, I like that. It works as it should and gives me plenty of options on setting up workflows. The only thing it lacks is to send via eMail when your default email is NOT Mac Mail. But other than that, simple and easy to use wirelessly. The Brother scanner I am using is also solid, compact and it, too, just works!

Very limited on the mac
Mac is only supported with very basic functionality. Control Center is not available for mac so I'm stuck with very limited scanning features. Profiles from iPrint&Scan don't get pushed to the machine so I have to create workflows in iPrint&Scan and create separate "shortcuts" on the machine which is irritating. Software user experience is not that great. The help section has only one sentence about one feature. Feels unfinished and mac support was definitly an afterthought. Please release Control Center for mac. I will be looking at competitors to see if they have better mac support; will return my new MFC-L2750DW if I do.

Really not bad!
I don't know why this has such poor reviews. It's fine. Since updating my Macbook & iMac to Ventura (and now Sonoma) the built-in scanning features don't work. While sure, this one lacks some features, it gets the job done and I can crop documents in native Apple apps or Photoshop if needed. I'm just glad I can keep using my printer which has been excellent.

Keeps downloading in French and doesn’t scan multiple pages to 1 dcoument
I even tried contacting Brother support, but they were unable to help me out with the English version of the software. There isn’t a place in the settings to switch the language. I can get by with the basics of it, but trying to figure out a work around for the scan issue is impossible for me in French. And when I asked support how to do that, they said it can’t be done, which seems insane since every other scanner I’ve used can save individual scans to 1 document. This just seems like a terribly thought out app that needs major fixes.

Yes, basic, but gets the job done
I agree with reviews that say it is too basic. I would be nice to have some additonal features like: being able to change the order of scanned pages and understanding how big a PDF will be at different scan settings. However, it does what it says and and Brother is keeping up with latest version of MacOS, which the maker of my previous printer/scanner did NOT do (hint: starts with a C and rhymes with Shannon).

This software is functional
I have an older all-in-one (MFC), and this software actually appears to work. It is functiona, a lot better then the scanning software included with the Mac. Not sure why this software is so hard to find (could not find it on the brother website). Improvements: - Reordering the pages after scanning... Not sure why this is not a simple drag and drop function. - Edit the colors/contrast on each page after scanning. You get what you pay for, except that Brother sells a printer/scanner, so I kind of expect some sort of software would be provided so that I could use the functionality of the device. Now to figure out how to enable the duplex option of the document feeded.

Insulting Horrible Sotware!
I spent a lot of money for a high end SOHO MFC printer and to be given a barely ported version of iPhone software to use it with is an insult to every single customer of Brother. Porting over full featured Control Center should be a given for a PC. With this piece of junk you can scan. That's about it. All the advanced features I used like Preview for being able to dial-in a scan especially for receipts, Selecting the scan area also extremely useful for scanning receipts all gone. I just hope Brother is in the proces of providing actual useful scanning software otherwise I will NEVER BUY ANOTHER BROTHER DEVICE AGAIN.
