Most convenient mobile banking app!
Of every mobile banking app I’ve ever used, I’ve found that Eastern Bank is the fastest, easiest, and most convenient when it comes to mobile banking. The app is easy to use, and I can make a transfer, check my balance, or do whatever I need to do in a matter of seconds. Eastern Bank has been great since I’ve been a customer with them, and I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon.

Not well designed
EDIT TO THE BELOW: The current Balance and the Actual Balance on the transaction page of your website are literally always incorrect, and don’t ever correspond to a single line in my checking history. For a financial institution this is alarming. Again: never a problem at Century. I could see exactly what had finished posting and what was still pending because the “current” would match a line in the transaction list and the “available” would match the final line at the top of all the list of transactions. These figures I see on your site/app correspond to nothing at all. Unacceptable. As a century customer who stayed on during the merger with eastern I can honestly say that century’s app was far superior in functionality and design. Beyond that, there were rarely service interruptions where I couldn’t access my online banking through their app, while at eastern it seems to be a weekly (or at least biweekly) occurrence. Not a fan so far eastern. I’ll stick around to get through some growing pains but only for so long: your banking system being unavailable so often is a big deal. And please hold the canned “we’re sorry you’re experiencing this… please email us at…” response that most of your other reviews have received. All you have to do is make sure your customers can access their accounts at all times, and look at the functionality Century’s app offered its customers, and get yours on that level too.

In accessible to disabled
The developers of this application are not well-versed in iOS development. Biggest problem I have found in this application is in the transfer functionality when running voiceover which is required for blind or motor impaired individuals, the button to activate the amount to transfer is not accessible and will not bring up the keyboard. There’s no way to enter a value into this function field. Clearly this app has not been tested with accessibility in mind and is in violation of ATA accessibility for federal projects. I’ve reported this to Easton several times and I’ve gotten no responses for months. Avoid eastern bank at all costs. And the feedback functionality within the application, is also not accessible so you can’t even report the problems directly within the app. Finally, there seems to be many connectivity issues when even hitting the back button causes an error, asking you to try again. Update:” After responding to the developer at the link provided, minutes after the response, over a week later and I still haven’t heard anything back with promised results. Perhaps you could actually post the public response here for all to see rather than hiding behind your insincere responses.

I love eastern bank but...
When traveling to Asia, which I do often, you realize that it is just a local bank. The app in Taiwan will not work at all unless you get a VPN (at 10 bucks a month). Oddly enough you can’t even enter their website without a VPN. It seems every day their system goes down for daily maintenance for what seems like hours. Unfortunately those hours are middle of the afternoon for me when I need to do most of my online transactions. When the system is down for maintenance and I attempt to transfer funds from my business checking to my personal checking, it tells me it will complete the transfer when the daily maintenance is complete. Unfortunately sometimes it doesn’t which can cause a lot of confusion when I’m trying to make a purchase with my debit card. Yes, in America the app is pretty good, but they need to work on making it more friendly to their international customers.

App no longer working
The app has stopped working. I will need to switch banks if I cannot use the app. The message says: “Something went wrong. Mobile banking is currently unavailable. We're working to get this issue resolved as soon as possible. Please try again later!” Many times I use the app and it says the mobile banking is unavailable, but eventually it lets me log in. But I think this message is different and the app is acting different when I try to log in. Editing to add, I also tried updating my iPhone since writing this, but even with it being the most up to date OS it’s still giving me the same message. Also, tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app.

Terrible
There’s something funky about eastern’s site that will not let me logon, so I’ve been using the app as a way to access my banking info. Now since latest iOS update the app does not work at all, so the only way I even get my balance is to call with my account number handy, and to get records of transactions go back to using statements, which doesn’t help at all with recent transactions. If I can’t get either the online login or the app up and running I’ll consider switching banks. It’s through keeping an eye on recent transactions that I monitor for fraud, check to see if payments have gone through, etc. I like Eastern as a bank but this level of incompetence or neglect or whatever from an institution in possession of all my money is ridiculous.

Absolutely Awful
Doesn’t even deserve 1 star honestly. Very disappointed that Eastern thought this was even close to an upgrade. Let me list just a FEW of the issues and changes from the last program design which seemed to be SUPERIOR to the new one. - categories not alphabetized - you have to click and go into every transaction to put a note. Takes forever to do. with the old app, you could quickly scroll down and input PLUS you could SEE the note on the screen. In order to even know what the note says you have to click on transaction. WHAT GOOD IS THAT? - everytime you go into your accounts, they are in a different order and no way to make them in an order you prefer - you can’t just glance quickly at all your transactions. You have to forever scroll. - any notes that were input from the last program (which ppl took the time to do) were NOT carried over - No balances appear under the pending items Honestly the list goes on and on and on. EXTREMELY disappointed!!!!! Perhaps you should have taken the time to survey customers and done a MUCH better job with this.

Pleasantly surprised
It was with great trepidation that I downloaded the new version of the EasternBank app. Two weeks ago EB notified me that I had been moved moved to their new system. The reviews of the new app were almost unanimously bad. But I was pleasantly surprised that everything worked well. I also think the user interface is much improved. I can only guess that the early May update fixed many of the apps problems. The one small glitch I encountered was several days ago when I had to restore the Touch ID login function. I don’t know why or how the option got turned off.

Glitches in check deposit
This app is an improvement from the previous version that didn’t work at all. However the app is only as good as its glitches are resolved in a timely manner. I have not been able to deposit checks as of the last few weeks because there’s a known glitch preventing check deposits. it tells me that any new checks can’t be deposited because the app mistakenly confuses new checks for previously deposited checks. The tech support person I spoke to says it’s a known issue but won’t be fixing it anytime soon and suggested I go out during the covid-19 pandemic to deposit the check in person. Seriously?! I am switching banks.

Could be better
So far. It updates as fast as it can. However I am not a fan of it being “closed” at night. What if we need to access it during an emergency or just happen to feel like checking our balance at 2am?? It’s our right as customers to have access to this. Maintenance for the app is important ofc. But it should be done once a week and also customers should be notified. Being essentially locked out of an app is frankly disconcerting. We should have access 24/7 within reason. That is the point of apps!! Some of us cannot afford to make it to a branch In person. And you folks need to update things. It’s behind on mobile check deposit functionality Also no excuse for having a debt card without tap capabilities. Love the account policies and no fees. But the trade off is limited. Do better..

Issues with Mobile Deposit
I only use the app for mobile check deposit. Every other transaction I do on my work laptop. Lately, over the last 3 months or so, every time I go to deposit a check, it says it can’t find the endorsement, and I have to go back to take the picture again, sometimes severs more times before it finally works. Please fix this, otherwise the app will be useless to me and I’ll have to start visiting a branch again to deposit checks, which is a complete inconvenience. I would hate to have to switch banks over this, considering the branch locations aren’t close by.

They cancelled my autopay...
Which led to constant over draft fees. Eastern used to be great. I legit followed tellers to Eastern from Jean D’Arc because they switched jobs and I wanted to keep their stellar service. I even found a woman who remembered me from a checking account I had there two decades prior (when I was a child). They moved those people to every corner of Eastern and destroyed my local branch. I don’t go in person any more. In fact I only set up autopays.... that “updates and site maintenance” void without warning causing me to incur an insulting amount of overdraft fees. I need to figure out a better back. I’m not going to “Join Eastern for good”

App constantly going down
I am extremely unhappy with Eastern banks app. Every night 7 days a week the app goes down for service at 11PM until god knows what time early in the morning. For those of us that work from 12 AM till 7AM we are unable to move money or do any online banking and for this I am strongly considering leaving Eastern bank and going else where. I have been a customer of Eastern bank for 22 years and ever since the newest version of the banking app has come out I have had nothing but issues. Now in order for me to submit my comment I have to choose a foolish nick name and the last four I’ve chosen have been taken. What a friggen joke

Great bank
I’ve been with Eastern Bank since 1975. I like dealing with local people who answered the phone. Also there’s an automated system where you can check weather a check that you have received it’s good or not. Also the app is fabulous and easy to use it’s one of the best I’ve seen. Keep it up Eastern Bank you are certainly terrific.!!

Ok when it works
The app is great when it works which isn’t often and drives me crazy. I’ve had to change my password about a million times because it just didn’t work even with Touch ID, go figure, and have had to delete and reinstall so many times I’ve lost count. Sometimes it won’t even connect at all. It’s a crappy app. When it actually works it’s got some decent features to it but it barely works. Need to update more often or scrap the whole thing and start over from scratch.

Remote check deposit no longer works
Sigh. Do love the bank but the newer iterations of app do not accept business sized or government checks. I now have to make all deposits in person. Narrower checks aren’t accepted in the rectangle viewer since all 4 corners don’t align with the rectangle provided. Any irregularities in check format- ie placement of date or endorsement line are not accepted. Mass DOR tax refund checks cannot be deposited remotely. Paychecks cannot either due to proportions of business checks. Please make your camera smarter. What good is an app if 1/3 its functionality unusable?!

Eastern bank app
I love this app it makes paying my bills easy. Being able to transfer from one account to another is a nice option. Best of all being able to do mobile deposit makes my life a little less crazy. No more running to the bank just to realize I forgot my deposit slip. I can deal with my banking needs in off hours... perfect fit for me.

According to me, best bank.
What can I say? Been with Eastern Bank for approx. 30 years. They must be doing something right. Lots of competition out there, but, I am from the old school...if not broken, don’t fix. I am a self employed bookkeeper for a variety of small businesses and find that Eastern Bank has a great customer service for everyone. No matter how large or how small.

App continues to crash when depositing checks
For months and months whenever I used the check deposit feature, the app would crash and log me out right after capturing a picture of the check. So I stopped depositing checks with Eastern Bank. About a month ago, I tried it again and lo and behold it started working again. But today, perhaps because of a bug reintroduced with their most recent update, it crashes again when depositing a check. And yes I deleted and reinstalled the app and this still happens. So frustrating.

Easy to Use WHEN
The app is wonderful WHEN it works. I am getting tired of having to delete the app and reinstall it because it doesn’t work properly. Instead of signing me in it just spins and spins before I can even enter my sign in info. My IOS is always up to date and there is no update available in the App Store. Plus why does it matter if someone already used the same review name? That’s ridiculous.

Logging in is a chore
I’ve been an eastern bank customer for years, and while I love them as a bank, unfortunately their new app after the migration is pretty terrible. Simply logging in is a chore. Every time you type a letter it reflects the keyboard so you mistype at least twice in a row. It’s just frustrating when tying to look at a balance quickly.

Bill pay
Bill pay isn’t as good as my other bank. My other bank lets me set up multiple payments for different businesses at the same time, whereas EB bill pay only lets me do one at a time. This takes longer and discourages me from transferring all of my bills or money to my EB checking. So for now I just pay our main utilities with my EB account.

Excellent bank
I’ve had nothing but excellent personalized service from the people at Eastern bank no matter which branch. In addition, their tech services through online banking are reliable and super convenient. I’m glad they’re looking out for everyone too, with their charity programs.

Lousy update NO IMPROVEMENT
Wow, just tried to deposit my first check since the update and it made me want to go back into a bank to wait in line to see a human. 4 attempts with the pictures before it liked one. That was literally the only thing I liked about the old app. I could finally deposit checks from home without hassle. Thanks for ruining the one thing that worked. I have not tried to check the account balance from a non-WiFi location, so I can’t comment on how that works compared to the complete inability to use the app not on WiFi before.

Love the App!!!
I have worked with other banks and RIGHT NOW Eastern bank makes “going” to the bank easily through the app! Reps at the Lynn Location on Boston street are kind and friendly and if you dont know how to use the app they are there to help with a smile on their face and making it a breeze to use the app!!!

Very convenient. The only flaw is the bank playing catch up on your purchases over the weekend. So whatever is in your bank account is not what’s in your bank account until Monday afternoon. An I am pretty sure you all are working to perfect that. Other than that everything is good.

The people at EB know their clients; actually know them. If they see something unusual or a mistake, they call you BEFORE the mistake snowballs. As a person who is managing a fair amount of financial transactions, this is huge. These are people I trust and I’ve been banking with them for over a decade.

Overnight
I have been banking with eastern bank for 15 years. Everything usually works as they should, but I find it extremely inconvenient when I can’t move funds from one account to the other consistently between 12-5am due to “nightly maintenance,” it is extremely frustrating. I needed to acutely move funds to my husbands account while he was on the road to get gas and food, and couldn’t, because of these delays. He almost had to call AAA, which is just unacceptable. The aftermath would have been much worse, and costly, than it would have been if I were just able to transfer my own money. Thank you Lisa

Travel note
I wish there was an option to apply a travel notice on my card instead of calling the customer service line. It would be easier if I could log into my app and click the states I will be traveling, to along with the dates. Sitting on hold waiting to talk to a representative is unnecessary just for this function. Otherwise the app is great! Thanks

Two improvements would make it perfect
1. The app displays only in portrait mode ... but my device displays only in landscape. 2. The bill-pay app forces me to keep track of the withdraw date and the delivery date. My accounts from other banks have their computer do this -- which is much easier for me!

Decency is more than decent.
Decency seems to come first in this bank’s operations, which is kind of extraordinary. The app is also straightforward and simple. Though I suppose others might need more gizmos, it’s served me really well over the past few years

Won’t open
The updated App won’t even open on my phone. I tried deleting and reinstalling and the same thing happens. The opening blue screen and logo is as far as it goes. Update: The issue has been fixed and I have changed the star rating

Bill pay (or any numeric entry) doesn't work on iPhone X
As I said in the title, I can't do anything useful on my iPhone X because there's no way to hide the number pad after it's brought up. This used to work better and now it doesn't at all. Update: so there hasn't been an update, but I got a new Xs Max, and the numeric entry appears to work, so I’m changing this to 4 star.

Failure at App
Your app is very slow and constantly is not working correctly. I have experienced these problems with 3 different phones. I relay on apps for all my bank and yours has to be the worst. I use Metro Credit, Key Bank, Amex and never have issues with them. Often have trouble signing in or it fills in the acct name then you enter the password and it closes. I am surprised, I love your bank and have had an account for dozen years at least, but the app is close to useless for me. Sorry, I hope it will improve.

Bad timing or bad tech?
9/10 that I need this app to check my account it is down for maintenance or just not loading. I can appreciate that the maintenance aspect is to keep things secure but it shouldn’t be so difficult to access my information? Now it seems there is a new app coming, so I guess that’s why I’m unable to get in? I see no invite for the new app, so I should still be using the previous.

Great Local Bank
Eastern bank is the friendliest, most personal bank with a wide range of services. Truly an excellent experience. I miss walking in the lobby and being warmly greeted by name, but the online banking and app both work perfectly and have been a great tool for managing my finances while staying at home.

Navigation improvements
TheControls that allow the user to go to the previous screen or not readily apparent. There should be a method for adding a new repeat payment like a scheduled payment in the app user interface.

Great tool for protecting your account
As a recent victim of identity fraud, I find it very comforting to know that I can access my accounts any time day or night for any account activity. The app also makes day to day banking much easier. Thanks for the updated version.

Once you’re in the App it’s fine
I always have issues with logging into this App. It always gives me the error this app is unavailable right now. Disappointing since this is my main account. Now I keep getting a message that I need to update the app but when I go to do so in the App Store it says it’s up to date. Please make it easier to access my account!

Disappointed
Very disappointed with the transition from Century to Eastern. I have lost all the personal service that I enjoyed with century and have been dumped into the world of BIG BANKING and red tape! None of my alerts transferred, I have had to spend endless hours trying to straighten out my accounts (some are still not available on line) and conveniently any alerts are not sent until after the bank fees are imposed. BIG BANKING at its best!!

I have had nothing but great experiences with Eastern Bank. My account was recently compromised and Eastern Banks fraud team figured it out for me and put the money right back into my account. I’m more than pleased with that

50/50 chance I can open it
Get stuck on blue screen and can’t access my account most of the time. I have accounts at other banks and don’t have this problem. Considering closing accounts because it’s frustrating to not have a functional app. I have called and was told noone has this issue, however, from the reviews looks like I’m not the only one. And yes, my iOS is up to date. I’m just done with this. Not sure why I can’t just get a functional app.

Not very good
Frequently hangs up. Times out. Doesn’t work well on an iPad. Sloppy programming. You type “add a payee” and then you have to type the same info again at a new prompt. Here’s another one... I can’t submit this review unless I enter a nickname. I enter one and it’s taken. Third attempt to submit a review. Really?

Mobile app very frustrating.
I am very happy having moved to Eastern Bank; however, the mobile app does not always open. When I called about the issue I was told that there might be a new revised app and that I should delete and download again. Which I have done a couple of times but it doesn’t last. So here I am once again trying to access the app and nothing happens.

I have not been able to open the app a number of times. App wouldn’t open. When it’s does. No Face ID I deleted it before and reinstalled it. Issues again. I just deleted the app again and will see how it works. As far as the app when in it. It’s great
