First Merchants Bank was the very first bank that I opened my checking account with, when I moved back home from Texas. My parents had use the Bank in Summitville IN their whole lives. The men and women who work at First Merchants are caring and always make you feel welcome. They also will go out of the way to make you feel pleasant and comfortable when visiting the bank. The are very helpful in explaining things if you are having problems! That I appreciate very much. I bought my first car through First Merchants. I would recommend them for anyone who is looking for a good bank to do Business with! Every time I open the app it is just a white screen. I have to force close the app to get it to go away. Once I do it clears my saved Face ID login and have to enter my password manually. Despite going through all the tips screens that appear every time I open the app, they come up after every login. I use the mobile app more than I go to the bank. If these bugs aren’t fixed soon, I will be moving my money to a bank that invests in their mobile app. Another reason to move would be to have contactless payment. Despite having Apple Pay setup, every time I go the grocery store and pay with my Debit Card connected Apple Watch, I have to enter my pin. FMB should also update all their ATMs with Apple Pay so customers don’t have to touch the screens.
You really need to listen to your customers as they have said for a long time but in the running total balance on your screen app. There is another line that you could add the running balance in under the item as there is enough room under that item but the running balance like you can see on the online website. Please put that in and you can put it in a different color. This will help everyone understand where their balance really is after each item. Ask for for all five of employees and customers. Please add it to the APP!
I used the previous version to remotely make deposits and monitor transactions. These features are even better with this new version. There are an other features to help manage and make the most of your money. Combine this with the best bank and my finances have never been better. I only wish there was a branch a little closer to home.
Since the recent revamp, I have been plagued with log in issues. At first I noticed that the Touch ID option was occasionally not available so I was required to use my password. Then I noticed that sometimes my user name would be auto populated and other times it wouldn’t. Nearly every time I log into the app, I’m taken through a new user tutorial regardless of if I click “later” or “let’s go”. Some times I’m not able to log in at all because the app is “unable to process my request”. I’ve been having these issues for weeks and only a few days ago the app started requiring text message verification codes to log in. Customer service has been no help. This has been enough of a hassle that I am considering changing banks to get away from this app.
Since the revamp the app has been much better and more dependable. My only qualm, and I’ve noticed others with this issue in the review section, is that for some reason if you update your iPhone and you try to restore the app from a backup it will throw an error that says something to the effect of the device ID not being recognized. To fix this you must delete the app and download it from scratch on the new device. After that you should be able to enter your credentials submit your security information without issue. Just thought I’d share!
I LOVE mobile banking but First Merchants app needs some work. It will not keep Face ID and if you type the wrong password (which by the way you do not have the option to see what you typed 😩) you have to back out of each character instead of them giving you a blank screen to start again. Wish they could fix this!
The last few times FMB has updated the app I, and I assume everyone else, was locked out of the system. The was no pre-warning or follow up messaging. When I call Customer Service I’m told about the update and forced to reset my password. Other OLB apps I have to not cause this much customer disruption. Please find a way to correct this. Thanks
Almost every time I try to open this app it crashes! I can be so far as having it open to making a transfer to just opening the app! Very frustrating! Scares me that it crashes while my account information is open! Please fix! This has been happening for the last few month.
Like most everything about it EXCEPT the change made to taking a picture to deposit a check.
I would give it a 5 star for everything except the process for taking a picture of the check. You have made that so difficult that 98% of the time it rejects your picture. If I was rating that aspect alone I would give that 0-1 star. So I guess if I have to balance that out I would give it overall 3 stars. Please consider correcting that aspect. Thanks!
I have trouble making online deposits you have to keep taking pictures of the check over and over again. Also printing, the bank statement takes forever for the review statement to come up. The mobile app has improved, I don’t have any trouble making a deposit.
I recently got an iPhone 15 pro and this app now only offers Touch ID to me. It’s been years since I have had an iPhone that does Touch ID. With my old phone (last week) this same app had Face ID. It’s a mess. And this is the last straw. Every other financial institution I deal with has a reliable app except this one. Not to mention all the red tape you have to go through just to setup online access in the first place. For being “Forbes top whatever” bank they really need to put some effort into their online banking.
The app, much like the on-line experience, is far inferior to every other banking institution I do business with. Although this version may be slightly improved from a usability perspective, I am still unable to view all of my accounts. All I’m asking is to have visibility into the accounts open at this institution, and it seems to be an insurmountable task. Hours spent with customer service have not yielded results, There are other banks out there with better rates, tools and problem avoidance/resolution capabilities. My recommendation is to steer clear of First Merchants Bank.
Ever since I opened an account with First Merchants Bank, they have had been advising me on things like possible fraudulent transactions people were trying to hack my account with. They are very knowledgeable on these things. If you want a bank that has you covered, count on First Merchants Bank. Not to mention a very friendly staff of people.
I think the new app design is a big improvement to the previous version. All the functions I’ve tried to use work well. One area that might be able to be improved would be app speed. It takes a couple seconds for things to load… which is still pretty good.
I really like the app. It is easy to navigate, but I think it would be great to add a “notes” section to the money transferring feature. That what when you are making a money transaction within your accounts, you can make a note behind it and remember what that transfer was for. (I.e. “Groceries” or “Dinner” or “game tickets”)
The utility payment part of mobile banking is terrible. For one thing the electric company hasn’t been updated. Hello Muncie is under Indiana Michigan not AEP. And it won’t recognize any of my utility account numbers. I know FMB is trying to compete with the big boys but sorry it isn’t ready for prime time. I have banked with FMB my entire life (my Dad was head of the Trust department for 23 years and I worked for FMB for 3 years) but I have to be honest. Your bill pay is really bad.
Need to see when you have scheduled payments for bill pay? Id love to know when my wife has schedule a bill to be paid so we don't pay twice in one month. No idea where to find it here though. Also what about when the last bill payment went was sent out. Wouldn't it be helpful to see when you last paid your bill. But this app doesn't you have to go through your account history. It would be so much more convenient if it were spelled out in the bill pay section.
This app worked seamlessly and had no issues for the first few months of using it. Since the update, I can no longer log in on my iPhone 7+. It’s saying my Touch ID is not working and I must login using credentials, but when I do that, it loads for 5 minutes and then tells me that won’t work either. First Merchants IT needs to fix this ASAP if they want people to be able to use this. Ps. I already deleted and re downloaded the app to no avail.
I miss and very much counted on the feature of sending a notifications immediately when my debit card was used (for a purchase or payment ) in the older version. I REALLY liked that because it reminded me to enter the transaction in my checkbook ledger as soon as I was able, especially if I didn’t get a receipt. Can this be rectified and replaced on the new app?
The app is pretty useful, I especially like the fact that you can see an image of any checks you have written when you click on the transaction. I do wish they would have kept the calculator functions from the old app. I especially miss the loan calculator.
I’ve been using the First Merchants app for several years with no issues - until the recent revamp/update. I can log in on the desktop/website version with no problems, but the app refuses me entry every time. It acts as if I don’t have an account. When I choose the “Enroll” option and enter my info it tells me I already have an account. I’m unable to activate FaceID because I can’t log in to confirm the activation. At this point I’m completely unable to use the app and have to use the website only.
In the old app you could go straight to bill pay. Instead of going through the side menu. Also I’m not able to find a way to delete a payee directly from the app like you could with the old style. Zella at the bottom is pointless for me and there needs to be a way to set shortcuts that you want at the bottom instead of what the app provides.
I would be lost and frustrated without the ease and convenience of this app. It makes my entire banking experience so easy. I appreciate the perks that are available also, Zelle, credit score and tips to improve it. I have nothing negative to say about this app at all.
The new mobile banking app is HORRIBLE!!! My ability to use Face ID disappears, eventually I see face ID at the bottom of the screen, I’ll activate it and put my password in, tells me my password is wrong, so I have to reset it. It may or may not work. And then I get locked out. I have to call the bank. I have been a customer for years, and the old app worked just fine. I don’t have the time or patience to keep going through this. Fix the problem, or I will by using another bank.
I agree with others that we need to have a running total after each transaction. I found it very informative to look back and see where my balances were on the same date of previous months. One thing that is extremely annoying is that when I go to the net worth, it leaves out one of my checking accounts and the account is with First Merchants and the settings are set to show.
this app is great because it saves you from needing a desktop and saves you a trip to the bank. my checks are deposited through my phone in good time. more importantly, the security is sufficient, as i have never had a problem. my only semi- “complaint” is that the app never seems to be “available” overnight. but for me, this is not much of an issue. and sometimes (probably 50/50) it takes several days for my account balance to be updated, as in my withdrawals are not posted for some time. but sometimes they are posted right away. and again, this is not a significant issue. overall, great app. saves me so much time and is very convenient. thank you!!
FMB online app is just the best! It’s easy and convenient! Saves trips to the bank for deposits and most all transactions. I have not once ever had an issue! Using Zelle through the app is wonderful, fast and easy! I highly recommend! I’d give more than 5 stars if I could. Best app ever!
Like any new app it took some time to navigate around and understand all it has to offer. Once I clicked through all the tabs to understand this app, I really found it very easy to do the things I need to do. 👍🏻
I used to not have a problem with the FMB App when I first got an IPhone 8 and 8 plus. However since upgrading to an iPhone XS I have to login every time instead of just using Face ID to login. This is how I got locked out of the mobile account on my 8 before I upgraded to an 8 plus, where I couldn’t just use the security features on my phone to log in.
The local people are so helpful, and respectful in a downturn. They don’t play holding games with moderate sized deposits, and are problem solvers. I especially commend Kathy Elmore at the Teal Road branch for setting a professional yet warm tone for her branch. Bank wires are efficient, as are account transfers in the app. I really like First Merchants Bank
The plus sign makes no sense to me. I need an app that goes right to check deposit it says more or wait you have that and it doesn’t have check deposit on it Every month I get lost on this app just trying to deposit checks
Lack of transaction info, running deposit calculations
Trying to write this part however, I can’t even see my words, so I don’t know if I’ve made any mistakes?? When reviewing my checking account, this app ONLY shows the totals of the transaction end. When it should show the previous total then plus or minus the transaction amount then new total and continue from there. Getting copy of bank statements is difficult. Also getting a download of account transactions into excel is next to impossible. Why? Should be much easier.
App always having issues. Had to uninstall and reinstall to get it to work. First merchants bank now made me sign up for zelle, what if I don’t want to use this app? Doesn’t matter making me do it anyway or can’t use their mobile banking app!! Not happy with First merchants at this point!
After the fog of starting something new I have found this version of the app to work very well and I actually like it better than the older one. It’s easier to read and understand.
Changing the amount on a bill you are paying is difficult to fine. Like this other things are are difficult to find. I guess it will be better once I get used to it.
This bank makes it so difficult to access their systems. I use Citizens bank and Chase app and never have trouble getting to my information. This bank I feel I almost have to provide dental records every time to get to my information. I repeatedly have to entered login credentials as Face ID does not work. This same complaint hold for web access. Another question. Why can’t I pay my loan payments in the app, I can do this with US Bank and Chase, is this to hard to do?
Whenever I try signing in with Touch ID it never works makes no sense because my iPhone lets me unlock my phone with my fingerprint. It always makes me retype my password no matter what I do. And half the time I try and sign in it just says error. Why isn’t there an option to just stay signed in like I click on the app and it’s just brings up my account I don’t have to sign in or anything like why isn’t that an option
Still unable to transfer money from my checking acct to our HELOC to make a monthly payment. This has been quite an inconvenience. Can’t wait for you to fix the glitch so I can utilize my mobile app.
Highest quality service. Their service is so great that I can say that they truly care for their customers!! They always know what to do when the customers are in a jam.
The app in questioned is nerve racking simply because , I use my app daily out of convenience and I shouldn’t be told I’m lock out of my account or come back later. I recognize and understand that there maybe network / connection issues , but everyday is simply ridiculous. I’ve been with this bank since it was citizens and I understand we all have to move with the times as far as technology , but this is a bit nerve racking , al least for me it is !!!
This is great app I like the way the tabs are to be honest at first. Then I saw the credit check part. I haven’t checked my credit yet but if it works that’s top of the line stuff. Good job
There are a lot of nice financial tools so you can see where you’re spending money and how you can save better and I love it after a month with it. For now it’s been great and time will tell!
I use voiceover with this app as I do not see well. And it is very sensitive and sometimes puts two letters in when you only pressed it once. My other bank accounts from other banks give me none of these problems. I hope you can get it fixed. I really do enjoy using apps with banking. Thank you so much
I have never had an app with issues all the time like this. 4 out of 5 times I use this it says unable to process request or won’t let you log in. It’s fairly annoying especially when I’m trying to deposit a check in the morning before the bank opens to hope that maybe just maybe it would get deposited the same day. Is that just too much to ask for?
I would rate higher but the Face ID keeps unchecking itself thus requiring my password. When I do log back in it wants me to go thru a tutorial again like I am a new user. Other than those issues it’s great. Easy to deposit checks and to transfer money. I like the notifications when I use my debit card. Very up to the minute on what’s in my account.
No, I do not like the new banking app. It is hard to read because of the background color and I don’t like how you have to tap the transaction to see the date. My mom does not like it either.
I had this app for a long time. Then out of the blue it stopped working. Keeps saying Error 1229. I’ve deleted it and reinstalled and still the same issue. I’ve even contacted the bank for assistance and it still won’t work. I’m so disappointed.
