Our Church went through Don Whitney’s book Praying the Psalms a few months back and I discovered this app. It has been a blessing on those mornings when I am remiss in praying. I can open this app anywhere and pray through the Psalms. It is uncomplicated, easy to use, and keeps me focused and praying in ways that most glorify God. I know this was a labor of love, so I wanted to say thanks to the developer. I will keep using this app to keep me focused and motivated to pray.
As someone who has also read Witney’s book and am benefiting greatly from the pattern, and as someone who is a software developer, the idea for this exact app just popped into my head and I thought I’d check the AppStore before I go make my own. I was pleasantly surprised to find the exact app I was looking for. I appreciate the authors of this! You saved me some time :)
I started using this program for slightly more than a year now. Mostly reading through 5+1 in early morning, occasionally using my Bible app to read it for me. I noticed change in my prayers and my Scripture readings. My “language “ started to change. I grow more biblical in my way of thinking, reasoning and talking. Thank you Heavenly Father for Bryant’s fine work!
I love this app - until I reach the day for Psalm 119. So, I made a table dividing the chapter into 30 parts - 6 verses per day. That way I read the 5 daily psalms + a small dose of the big one. What a blessing to look forward to meditating each day on a small part of such a great Psalm. It would be nice to have this incorporated into the app itself. Thanks for a great app!
As Donald Whitney teaches: We get board with prayer because when we pray, we often say the same old things about the same old things. Read Whitney’s book, Praying the Bible, and then use this app to guide you through his suggestions, and revolutionize your prayer life.
I not able to adjusts the settings. I would like to change versions, font size and add Proverbs. I can't seem to find help anywhere. This app is easily worth five stars if it is functioning properly.
I have tried in vain to institute praying with the psalms as suggested by Donald Whitney’s book. The small obstacle of having to do the math had often discouraged me. So glad I decided to see if someone had created a way to easily find these five psalms every day! Thank you, Bryant!
I have used the 5 Psalms a day method for thirty years, this app makes it so easy. I only wish you could highlight and add notes. That would make a great app even better! Thank you for providing this wonderful resource.
I had been using the Five Psalms method of praying since reading Don Whitney’s book and was delighted to find the app. Since I’m a person of few words, praying scripture is really helpful. Good job Bryant. I hope you use your skills to develop more.
This app has been a wonderful way to pray! It just changes the old patterns by refreshing prayer life and deepening my relationship! Thank you for making this so easy each day!
I was encouraged a few years ago when Dr. Whitney first introduced me to praying the Psalms, and this app is the absolute best way to facilitate that discipline. Lots of great options and attention to detail. Highly recommended!
I recently read an article about habits and reading and praying through a psalms. This app is a perfect tool to do just that. Morning prayer, coffee, and this app has been a blessing. Keep up the great work Bryant!
Love this app!!! I have used the printed Version from Don Whitney’s book but this is SO much easier. And now I have it with me wherever I go. Thank you for making this!!!
I am enjoying the app so far, I only wish there was a heart or star so we can mark our favorite psalm to go back to later and possibly a highlight feature to highlight a favorite verse.
I love the simplicity of this compared to my bible app. I can quickly pull it up between my meetings and read through my daily Psalms and Proverb. Thank you!
This has been a super helpful tool for praying and focusing without some of the trappings of more social-oriented bible apps. I love its simplicity! Thanks, Bryant!
I am very glad I found this app! I used to read the psalms this way by doing the math sequence in my head or by using a schedule on paper. I love having it at my fingertips!
Do you find your prayers to God to be repetitive and boring? Do you tend to say the same old things about the same old things? The best solution is to pray through a passage of Scripture, in particular a psalm or proverb. In Donald S. Whitney's excellent Praying the Bible book (Crossway, 2015), Whitney introduces a superb, systematic approach for praying through Scripture called "Psalms of the Day." Since there are 150 psalms in the book of Psalms and most months have at least 30 days, you can read through all 150 psalms in a month by reading five per day. You start by taking today's day of the month and reading the corresponding psalm, then keep adding 30 until you get your five psalms. On the 31st day of the month, you read Psalm 119 only. You quickly scan those five psalms then pick the one that best leads you to prayer at that moment. This app was inspired by Whitney's "Psalms of the Day" prayer approach. Instead of having to do the math each day and manually flipping to each psalm in a physical Bible, this app automatically looks up today's date, does the math, and displays for you the exact five psalms for the day. You can read through a psalm by swiping up and down, and switch to a different psalm by swiping left and right. You can also display the Proverbs chapter of the day, customize the look and feel of the Scripture text, choose from different Bible versions, and customize what happens on the 31st day of the month (show Psalm 119 or five random Psalms).
