YAY!!!!!! You guys are awesome!!!! Thank you so much for restoring the folder view and timestamps!!! I've updated my rating back to 5 stars! I love this app.... at least, I used to. I use it A LOT, I've saved over 50k screenshots using it, and now it's practically useless. WHY? Did you get rid if the folder view and timestamp???? I have well over 1000 video clips and it was cake to find what I needed because I could just go to the folder it's in. Now I have to scroll and scroll and scroll and oh yay my hand is flaring up from all the scrolling... and crap, what did the thumbnail of the video I want look like? Nope that's not it... oh yay I get to scroll through everything all over again. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEAAAAASSSSEEEEEEEE! I'm begging you, PLEASE bring the ability to access folders back, for the love of everything holy.
This app is really well made, it’s as simple as that, it’s visually pleasing, simple to navigate, and offers a solution to a problem many don’t even realize they have; the hallmarks of a successful application. The only recommendation I can give is to change the subscription model. Although I of course understand the incentive to switch to it in the beginning, since this app offers a better solution to something many already do (simply screenshooting a video) and is specific to that function, the subscription model will drive most people away and back to simple screenshotting, as at the moment it just isn’t the best value and the psychologic aspect of recurring payments will only harm that. I recommend implementing a one-time-purchase option for slightly more than the one year subscription ($25-$30 for example would be effective) and offering a monthly or yearly subscription model as a cheaper option. This option, although decreasing recurring payments, is very likely to bring more money in overall.
Say you take a video, and there’s a moment in that video that would make for a cool picture. But you can’t quite get the video to pause right where you want it to get that perfect moment. This app lets you go frame by frame with easy incremental adjustments to land on that perfect image to export from your video. Also, instead of taking a screenshot of a video and losing all of the metadata (e.g. location, time), this app gives you the image but with all the info attached so your picture stays nicely organized within your photo library. Stop screenshotting your videos and lowering the quality. Use this app and get the highest resolution image from video and preserve your metadata!
Frame Grabber is a great little app the does exactly what it says and I’ve used it for the past several years occasionally until now. I opened it up to grab a video frame only to find out that the entire functionality of the app is locked behind a $20 recurring paywall now. I very much understand that times are different and subscriptions make a developer’s life much easier and I am not against them for things I value a lot but I simply cannot justify $20 every year forever for the smallest single use case utility app. I’m not going to leave some scathing one star review over something like this but I wanted it known from user to developer how I felt. It’s the call of every anti-subscription user out there but I promise I actually would pay a one time price for this app if available.
This app gave my senior mom her first lesson in bait and switch subscription apps, and let me tell you, she was incredibly disheartened to find out she’d need to spend $20 a year to keep using it. I installed it myself and gave it a try, and it really really does a good job at extracting single frames from video. If you’re someone like my mom who regularly accidentally takes video and then wants a photo from it, it’s a great app, but you’d have to use it a whole lot to make it worth $20 a year. Neither her or I do, so I gave her an alternative (won’t name it here, but it’s a $3 one time purchase, search the App Store you can find it.) I really wish apps like this would forgo the subscription model and just do a one time purchase. This one was good enough I’d probably have dropped $20 as a one time purchase. Not everything has to be a subscription, and for an app that essentially does one thing, $20/yr is a lot.
Frame grabber has been the best app by far that I’ve found and consistently use on a regular basis to capture photos from videos! It’s such a hassle having to try to do it manually in my camera roll, attempting to screenshot a part from the video to use as picture form, and to top it all off as if I hadn’t already spent so much time trying, I then had to go and crop said screenshots as well. This app offers the MOST perfect tools to better assist you in capturing that perfect image. Not to mention it is all very easy to use, super straightforward, no extra steps needed on your part & def worth your time and money!! I highly recommend—
This app is incredible; I’m amazed by how there’s no catch (needing to pay to remove a watermark, limit to how many free uses, etc.)—it really is everything you devs say it is. :) However, there’s one feature that I wish would be implemented: the option to save all frames from a video at once. It would make the creation of high-quality gifs so much easier. Right now I have to set the scrubbing speed to “snail” (which is hilarious because the specific video I’m working with is actually a video of a snail) & save frames one by one, which is very time consuming. Anyway, amazing app—I just hope you’ll consider adding this feature. Thanks so much.
Works very well to capture full resolution photo from video
This app works great to capture a full resolution picture from a video (a screen shot does not on your phone). It is easy to use and the app is responsive and shows no “bugs” that are annoying. I do wish that there was a way to do a mass export of all the frames of a video to photos at once. (With a limitation on the size of video, or to be able to select a time slot clip of video within a larger video.) Overall, this is a great app and gets used frequently to “grab” high quality (limited by the quality of the video) pictures from videos.
I used to be a peasant and would take screenshots of my videos in my camera roll but as soon as I downloaded Frame Grabber I feel as if I have moved up a whole social class. My current self takes pity on my past self. These deplorable actions I used to consider to be “standard” are now nonexistent and unheard of. This app is well worth it. Don’t be a peasant, wasting your time cropping the blank space out of sub-par screenshots anymore. Just download this app. Your future self understands and will thank you.
No time to try out before they hit you up for payment info
The app literally asked if I was “enjoying the app?” after I clicked on my first video that I had not even grabbed a shot from yet. The app had been installed on my phone for maybe 20 seconds before they asked. Geez… give me a few seconds at least!!!!! Then it only allowed me 3 grabs (another 20 seconds or so) before they freeze the app functions and require payment info to continue the “free?” 3 day trial. Less than one minute does not equal three days. You don’t need my payment info until my three days are up and have chosen to unlock the app, not before my trial has even started. No thanks! The developers need to learn how to chill on the greed and make an app that is less aggressive… they don’t even give you a chance to try it out. Deleting app immediately.
I don’t use this app often, maybe two or three times per year, but was disappointed to see that I could only export one frame before being nagged to subscribe. Unfortunately, because I use the program, so little, spending $20 a year for a subscription is not some thing that I will be doing. I’m going to keep the app installed and see when I’ll be able to export my one remaining screenshot in to see if the creator modifies the subscription pricing. I am the type of person who prefers to pay for an app once, and would gladly pay the subscription price one time, or maybe even a little more knowing that I’m only going to use the program a few times a year, but I don’t want to pay $20 a year for five uses and then have to pay that again next year for five more uses.
This app use to be awesome. Then they pushed out an update and this “free” app can no longer extract images from videos, at *any* quality. You now must pay $20 a year to access any functionality. This is excessive for an app that was free, and for an app that simply pulls a single image frame from a video. If the developer of this app wants to offer a basic plan that gives you the basic functionality of exporting an image from a video for $4.99 a year (tops), then they would have my business back. Until then, there are other apps on the App Store that extract images from videos for free; search around for video to pic apps. Many people cannot afford a $20 yearly subscription for a simple app, and it is a shame that this app was ruined by greed.
I had been looking for awhile for an app that I could use to pull pictures from videos I had taken on my phone. When my nephew proposed to his long-time girlfriend in Hawaii, I got serious about finding an app that was simple and could pull quality pictures from the video that we took. I came across this app and it has worked perfectly. I will continue to use it as long as it remains available. Super happy with it😊
I have LOVED this app for so long, but this morning’s update is so disappointing. I can no longer zoom in on my subject to see which frame is the most in focus while browsing frames. I have to zoom in and out at every individual frame. Capturing animal photography is part of my work and this was my best tool. But I can’t go through hundreds of frames anymore as it would take too long. Also the save button in the bottom right made so much sense. I need to use two hands now with the slider on the bottom and save on top. Would love to see it move back toward the perfect functionality it was.
Seeing as iPhone takes low res screenshots from video, I’d been loading my videos onto my laptop and taking high res screenshots using Windows Photo Editor. But the Windows app randomly loses the “save a screenshot” feature and I finally got fed up and gave up on it. 5 minutes after downloading this Frame Grabber app, I’m never turning back! Can do it all on iPhone now and grab great high resolution screenshots from video. Love this app so much I donated to the developer (I believe in supporting good apps.)
The app starts out to be free (or a lot cheaper than what it is now, can’t remember the exacts). I can deal with the price part. I use it often to grab good quality photos from video so I paid for the full year subscription. Then it keeps begging for reviews, like every time I save a photo, it has a pop up window and asks for a review. I’m so tired with this, i just want to pay and be able to use the app, nothing more. But the pop up window is just pushing me over the edge, and I guess I’ll have to write this review to be in left in peace. So here you go, five star app, minus 3 stars for the non stop begging for review.
This is a wonderfully simple app to use and the image is great. The only drawback- and not so much a drawback as an inconvenience- is that there’s no clear way to save directly to my photos library. Maybe there is a way, but I missed it. UPDATE: I was wrong: There IS a very simple fix to save directly to Photos. I just missed it. Creator Arthur Hammer responded immediately with an instant fix. I look forward to your next app, Arthur. BRAVO.
This app is great. Nice features that are hard to find. I used to take screenshots when I wanted a still from a video. This app makes it simple with far less storage needed. Quality of images is great. Looking for a hard to get still is a cinch with all of the video speed options. This app is worth the money. I’ve had it for over a year.
Is everyone seriously crazy.?? I just got this app based on so many great reviews. I grabbed a frame from a video on my iPhone and saved it with the 100% quality setting. Then I did a screenshot from the same video. I use an app called Resize it which shows the file size. The size of the picture that this app saved was 1920x1080. The size of my screenshot was 2436x1125. So much for this app being so amazing at saving high quality images from videos. Who are all of these people raving about this app that saves an image that’s smaller than just doing a simple two button press screenshot.??
Just finished a triathlon and my husband took more videos than pictures. Tried all which way to grab stills on the iPhone from those vids. Nope! Only option is screen capture then crop out the controls. No bueno. Found this app recommended all over the place. Downloaded in 5 seconds, opened it up, BAM! Frame grab done. Thank you to all the folks that made this!! Awesome work.
The app does what it’s supposed to do and does it well. It’s intuitive and simple. Unfortunately, the subscription model drove me away looking for other apps and just back to taking screenshots. I would pay a one-time fee to purchase the app, but I won’t pay yearly for an app that isn’t critical to my daily activity. If you want to gate the filters behind a smaller monthly/yearly charge, go for it, but the unlimited photo capture needs to be opened up with a simple app purchase.
This app has performed 100% of my expectations. It’s simple to use, it makes easy work of downloading video into it, and moves on to the next project seamlessly. With that said, I believe there is room for improvement. They should add some tools to help clean up video and also allow Live pictures to be “Grabbed”. All in all this is a great product and I give my recommendations.
This is one of those apps that, once you use it, you wonder how you ever lived without it. Frame Grabber makes selecting and exporting 4K video stills effortlessly simple. I needed to grab multiple frames from a 4K video of mine, and Frame Grabber took all of the hassle out of the job. Saves time, and excellent quality… Highly recommended. (Totally worth donating ice cream!)
This app works great. I am very happy with it. However, I emailed a question to customer service and within minutes I received a canned AI generated response that did nothing to answer my question and it’s been radio silence ever since. Customer service is very important to me, and I am dropping this app and moving on to something else. If all you care about is the end result, this is a great app but if you care about customer service, I suggest you find an alternative.
I’ve been using this app for a long time, and was surprised to find it suddenly costs $20/year. That’s a lot of money for a simple app (and I don’t want a more complex app – it was almost perfect as is). I’d be happy to pay $20 once, or a (much) smaller amount as a subscription, but not so much as a subscription. Especially when the app can be emulated (albeit with a loss in quality) with a simple screenshot. If the price stays high, expect to be undercut by competitors.
Okay. When I first started using this app, I would’ve rated this a 6 out of 5 stars. It was so perfect and easy to use. It literally became a hobby of mine whenever I had the time to extract amazing shots. But now you guys are running after our money. And not just a little— quite a bit. Why so much annually?? Like other people are saying, I would be so down to a one-time payment option at that price instead of paying every year like that 🤬. You’re instead pushing people away, such as me. Farewell.
But there are times thst I want a photo that I can't get by waiting anf timing my shot. That's when I take 4k video and then use this app to grab a frame. It comes out to very clean 4mp photos. It's clean enough that when I want a shot that is just too hard to get without video, I go straight to this app only.
Incredible. Easy. Full quality. Outstanding. Free. Best app EVER. Makes me want to only take videos now instead of photos because I can document the rawness of a moment. I can’t thank you enough. My trip to Wales has been brought to life again thanks to this app and what it has allowed me to do with my videos.
Why……are they not charging for this? It’s a great app and so easy to use. It does an amazing job with a simple and clean interface. No ads. No pop ups. There’s no reason why you shouldn’t be charging for this. I would have paid. I’m going to donate but you should have been charging for this all along.
I’ve been a user of this app for years and loved it. Never had any issues whatsoever, until today. Go to use it and find out I now have to pay 20 dollars for a subscription, the thumbnails shrunk in size and do not show video time on them anymore and the app language is no longer in English nor can I change it back to English. Seems like a classic case of fixing something that’s not broken. The app was perfect, I am now researching an alternative
A truly excellent FOSS project that works exactly as intended. If you enjoy it I encourage you to purchase the $4 donation. Really hoping that this continues to be maintained. 💜 If possible, it would be cool to have a feature that lets you download every frame of a video with one tap instead of having to manually save each one.
If leaving a 5 star review allows for premium access without a monthly subscription pay wall than this will be well worth it :)! So far my two photos kept their quality and exported quickly, here’s to hopefully more! Yipee!!
My favorite feature is the ability to adjust the speed of video allowing you to easily lock in on the feature you wanted to catch, plus you usually find extra things you didn’t see before.
When taking pics I always do a 4K video instead. I would then go into the video and screenshot the best shots. But screenshots are a little blurry, have always wanted the screenshot to preserve the 4K quality. Finally found my answer!!! This app is amazing!! Thank you!
I’ve been using this app for over 3 years with no issues, it’s simply an amazing app. However the app now requires a $20 yearly subscription to use. This is really disappointing to see, the app is wonderful but not $20/year wonderful. I would have paid a onetime price for the app and left tips thought the years if a tip jar was available like other apps do.
This is an outstanding utility for me. I highly recommend this app! Apple corporation should consider giving this app as part of the suite when you buy an apple product whether it’s a phone or iPad. i’m about to look at other offerings from this company.
This is a great app but I just can’t justify paying for a subscription when the sole purpose is to make stills from videos. I can go back to making stills from video the original way by making a screenshot. You really should consider making it one time pay for this application.

I am taking time lapse videos of wildlife. This app allows one to easily review the videos using manual scrubbing or predefined playback speeds stopping and being able to extract frame(s) of choice. Works well with photo processing apps like Adobe Lightroom. Keep up the good work. Thanks.

Taking videos in HDR on iPhone does not give the ability to capture a screenshot of that same video. With Frame Grabber, you’re able to take a ‘screen grab’ of that video, and still retain the quality of the video!!!
Was able to change my 30 fps video into 12 fps by extracting every image in the correct time exactly. Perfect for grabbing that frame you need as a jpg without visual quality loss. 10/10. And i dont gotta pay. Love you for making this.

This app looks so clean! It’s super simple to use, but not lacking in features. I was surprised to see EXIF viewer built in and there are many sort/filter options to quickly track down the video you want. Also open source and awesome privacy policy are the cherry on top.😁
This app has been really helpful to capture screenshots from videos. It works so much better than the editing tool in Google photos. I love that you can adjust the speed, so you can really get the frame you want.
I just reinstalled this after a few years and to my surprise was hit with a paywall after saving several frames. I don’t care about any of the filters or other options, I just want a simple frame saver and $20/year is bananas. I’m not expecting this to stay free after all these years (I was a day one user from your initial Reddit post five years ago) but $20/year for screenshotting?
